My editor has read the first (rough) draft of Book 9, and he loves it. I'm on the home stretch now — the end is in sight (in more ways than one). Over the next two or three weeks my head is going to be down and I'm going to working hard to fill in those gaps, to link up those scenes, to write those missing chapters. Right now I'm at 100,000 words. The end result will PROBABLY be about 120,000 words — maybe just slightly shorter than KOTW. Of course, in order to finish the book, I'll need to pick a winner of the Who Gets to Die competition we ran ages ago, and then that lucky reader will get to meet their grisly end...
And because I, and therefore WE, are on the home stretch, this blog is going to be choc-a-block with announcements and reveals over the next few weeks. By the end of THIS week, for example, we'll be revealing the cover for the Armageddon-Outta-Here short story collection. Next week, we'll reveal the full, WRAPAROUND cover for the collection (it's awesome). And the week after that? We'll be revealing the title for the ninth, and last, Skulduggery Pleasant book.

We're doing poetry in English. So a project we have is to find a poem or song that speaks to you and make a 7+ slide PowerPoint of pictures reflecting it and read the poem/song to the class.
So I picked Facade from Jekyll and Hyde, because I truly and honestly believe in what it says. People don't show their true selves and that killer could be your friend and then you become the next victim. People always find it easier to project a facade in public and not be themselves. Or they hide their true self to hide greed. So to me I truly believe that the song really hits me, like just how right it is.
My favorite quote ever is first sung in Facade and is sung in Facade and Facade Reprise 4.

In the very first Facade number the people in London refer to the Board of Governors. How they are corrupt. Then you get a taste of it, switch to the Engagment Party in the upper class area, how they create a facade: If you live around here you need cash in the bank cuz the houses around here all flashy and swank and the front bit is whats called a facade.
Then you go to the lower end of London at the bar. Facade 2: Here in London's East End its the pits of the earth. they never show a facade as what do they have?
Facade 3 comes after you meet Hyde and is sung before Dangerous Game and refers to Hyde not being truthful, he will kill Lucy. There's a beast at the door and he's wild and free, but we don't let him cuz we don't want to see what is lurking right behind the facade
Facade 4 is right after Lucy's death they show Lucy dead and take her around the stage. And its sung by an invisible person: Man is not one but two he is evil and good and he walks the fine line that we'd cross if we could. And he's waiting, he's just waiting. they speak of Jekyll and how he's now the real facade.
That, Zaf, sounds very very cool. O_O
And it's true.
Although in The Final Empire (love that book), Vin reflects on how she's putting on an act just as much when she's surviving as a poor ska thief than when she's being a noblewoman, so. :/
Maybe that's partially why the book made her a thief, because - yeah. :/

*punches the needles plunger down releasing the liquid into the vein and smashing the glass*
*the girl screams and pulls against her bonds but it is no use*
*reaches for a glowing black cream*
*smothers it over the wound and pulls the skin together*
*gets a rusty old sewing needle out and a thick, rough thread*
*draws the skin together and quickly runs the needle through to close the wound, each puncture emphasised by a small cry of agony*
*turns to the other arm*
*makes a rip high in the clothing*
*slips a spiked ring onto his right wrist*
*dips it into some red liquid*
*turns and smashes his closed fist onto the girls arm hearing a sharp crack and a pained scream*
*waits a few seconds before pulling the ring out and his fist away*
*rubs that same dark cream over the skin*

It’s so strange living like I do; I’ve trained all of my life to protect mortals and to save earth. I’ve been taught to defend innocents and attack the cruel, I’ve been taught to always have a strategy and ensure my mind is focussed on methods of how to ensure the safety of as many people as possible. I’d been forced into the belief that death isn’t the worst fate, but the most glorious. You see, we live forever, us Amaranthianes, so long as we’re not killed by an illness or another person; age truly is just a number for us. Death in battle is the most highly thought of way to go – we are meant to protect, after all. But, then I met you and I knew that death would be cruel to me and it filled me with that sort of emptiness that makes your stomach churn and your skull feel so tight around your brain that you fear it will soon explode and there’ll be no more of you left to feel anymore. After meeting you, I realised what I am meant to do. Being an Amaranthiane doesn’t stop me from being a person, and knowing you has taught me that. You taught me that I don’t have to be completely selfless all of the time – it’s not always called for. Sometimes it’s good to be selfish, because it means life matters to you. You taught me that. And it’s rather typical of me to realise it as I watch the world around me fade into nothingness, as I watch you become nothing more than a blurry figure, then a shadow until it all disappears. It’s typical of me to realise this now, as I’m breathing my last breath. Only I could do this.

*gets a sharp pen full of glowing black ink-like liquid*
*begins digging into the flesh with it, drawing swirls and patterns*
*smiles as the blood left behind darkens when it touches the ink*
*continues the drawing digging deeper in*
*finishes the drawing and smiles at his work*
*nods finding the contrast of pale skin and black blood beautiful*
*puts the pen down and reaches over for a scalpel again*

It's bugging me. I've written a few ways to begin it, but none of them are quite enough... Well... I have the first chapter. And it's amazing. NGL. But the middle is just sort of ???. Because I've got too many ideas of how to do it. :P

I'm trying to distract myself from having finished Imp because I keep editing it and making it a little more feelsy, so Kayleigh wants to murder me. c:
I need a distraction.
My eyes watch a stray green leaf and I open my mouth to speak, but I can’t seem to say it. It feels so final. So absolute. It can’t end here. Maybe it’s just one massive hoax she managed to formulate, she was smart enough to do it. Maybe it’s just a joke and she’s going to be sat in the willow tree above me and I’m going to say something then she’ll just begin to laugh and then she’ll climb down and leap on me, knocking us both to the floor and we’ll roll down the hill hugging and laughing and kissing and I’ll be furious with her for being so extreme but I won’t care about being so angry because she’d be in my arms and I’d feel the warmth of her breath and her exhilarating touch and hear her indescribably beautiful voice and see those eyes again. Those eyes that were always so full of promise and wonder and the way she looked at you could make you feel so many different things. You could tell so much from just looking into her eyes and she could convey so much emotion through them. She could give you confidence or destroy you just with her eyes. When she looked at you and she smiled that massively goofy smile and her eyes crinkled at the edges, it was almost impossible to deny that she was the most beautiful girl in the world and you’d feel so warm and fuzzy inside and it would be impossible to not return that smile because, god, was it contagious and her adorable laugh. It was so cute and the happiness within it was so intense it was almost tangible. And the way she always had to be doing something – she’d fiddle with her hair, her bag, tap her foot, wiggle her fingers… she’d do anything. She just had to be doing something. But none of those things were reasons for why I love her. They were things I love about her – things that made her ----. Every moment I spent with her, I found yet another beautiful little thing about her, whether it was a quirk, a freckle, an idea or just something random she said or did or… there’s no way of finding a particular reason I love her. It wasn’t her coconut perfume, her contagious smile, her ability to cook, her genius or even her creativity. It wasn’t any of that. Of course it wasn’t. They’re just pieces of her.
I don’t have a reason for loving her, because there is no specific reason other than the fact that she was who she was. I fell in love with her. I fell in love with everything she was. Everything she is. I fell in love with more than just her qualities; I fell in love with --- and I will never fall out of it.
I expel a deep breath and close my eyes, “Joesonghamnida.”

*the girl isn't even screaming now, just whimpering and staring up at him wide eyed*
*smiles cruelty at her and begins to pull those cheeks further apart*

*covers his hands with a blood red ink*
*rubs it all over her open cheeks still staring into her eyes*
*rubs the black lotion into them*
*grabs the needle and slowly begins to thread it in and out of the skin surrounding her mouth, sewing it shut*
*pulls the thread tight and then knots it before cutting it*
That's an ending I wrote and I sort of love it. Like, he's gone to her grave (because she died at age 15) and it's her birthday and ;~;
