With Desolation only a few days away, I am still hard at work on the third and final Demon Road book.
From the beginning, I wanted these books to be as streamlined as possible — I wanted them short and punchy. Now, I completely failed with Demon Road, as it was a pretty big book, and only got slightly better with Desolation, which is shorter, but it looks like I'm finally getting the hang of this with Book 3, which will hopefully be the perfect length.

Lol, my dad keeps a fucking engineering complex in our house. Anything can be replaced/fixed at any time. He has heat guns, a plasma cutter, all sizes of screwdrivers, nails, battery chargers (For cars), circuits etc.

I would say I'm scared but that's not quite it..
It's infuriating.
I can sit with a match out, pressed against the sandpaper on the box, running it back and forth but the moment I try do it quick enough to light it I just freeze up..
Same with lighters, I can do it so it won't light but the momemoment I try to seriously make a flame I freeze up.)
hmmm...have you tried with help? Like someone holding your hand, and lighting it with you? :)

(I can't say I have, people are usually too busy to just stand with me and hold my hand while I try light a match/lighter..
I mean atm it doesn't affect me much except for being unable to light candles and inscent sticks.. But when I'm older if I have an oven/stove Ike mums old one and dad's current one then I'm screwed because they always had to use a lighter or match to ignite them.
It's something that's really annoying because I know it's simple, the action isn't hard and yet I still can't do it. Lots of people don't struggle with this and I shouldn't be struggling with it and I'm embarrassed whenever I have to ask for help. I've only ever lit a lighter once and I dropped it immediately. I wanted to make toast for dads birthday once and ended up crying on the floor holding a match box and a match because for about an hour I'd been trying to light this one match.. It's really infuriating and kinda upsetting.)
awwww. It's ok, don't be embarrassed :) Most people have something that they can't do, even though it's simple for most others. Try keeping your hand steady and focus on the objective-lighting whatever it is you're trying to light :)

@Jai: Awww . . . I'm more unafraid of fire than most girls I work with in chemistry practicals, because my dad's always been really unafraid of fire and his attitude has sent me the message that fire is okay abd probably won't hurt you . . .
If I ever get the opportunity I'm perfectly prepared to sit and hold your hand while you try to light stuff . . . Plus I might sit with you and light a load of candles and like keep running my fingers through the flames and setting fire to stuff, because I reckon if you see other people be close to fire and be unafraid and be unharmed it might help your brain accept it as normal . . well it would work for me so if your brain works similarly to mine it might help - and if not: nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Sadly I don't live near enough to you to just sort of come round. Sigh.

I love my piano teacher...
I've been playing since I was 5 and while I wanted to play I was terrified for my first lesson but my piano (and now harp) teacher is very non-tradition, instead of learning scales and how to read music I learned by ear which is cool. And I just kind of figured out how read music and how to play all the scales along the way.
I've always been taught by her so idk what this is like compared to other teachers but for me personally it worked really well and I enjoy it.
Also because recently she's been helping me figure out Brandi Carlile songs :)))))))
and then I figured one out myself!

If I was over in Europe and it was socially accepted at 18, sure. I mean I'd try to fit in especially if it's the norm.
Now in some cultures here though its accepted for kids at like 16 to share a glass of wine at a formal dinner at the home, of course not in public. Like in my Italian side of the family it's more accepted for those of us in high school to partake in the toasts with wine, and its because that's how it is.
My Irish side it's not that common the most is to have a sip to take part in a toast, and certainly no more than that.

I don't dislike alcohol just because I have bad experience with my biological dad. It was my dad's decisions that led us to suffer, not alcohol in particular. Though i don't really like the taste of it. I like small amounts with a lot of other flavors.

Yes, I've got quite an internal locus of control. Though, also got some characteristics of externals. I don't believe everything that happens to a person is their fault....in the bigger picture however, I do believe that one has control over their lives.

And believing that one has control with alcohol is one of the things that makes an alcoholic, an alcoholic. Drinking alcohol isn't just what causes the addiction. Alcoholism is a mindset, and a lifestyle, and it is part of who someone is. Most alcoholics are avoidant, reserved, over-analytic, and exert control in all aspects of their life. My dad is narcissistic, cold-hearted, unsympathetic, perfectionist, frugal, and needs control. Alcohol is his relief.
So please don't say that alcohol is just a state of physicality- because it isn't.

( here in the Uk we have an AA where they fix your car whilst they lecture you on the 12 steps lol )
Well just like most other things, people can get addicted to it either way. Some may be more prudent to that life style than others. But it IS a choice whether you drink it or not. If one knows about urges, it is me. And so far, I've been able to fight mine. It's all a matter of choice. You cannot blame everything on basic genetic traits. We have a consciousness that, if used properly, can overcome any barriers. You just have to be willing.

it's much harder for some people to control their lives than others.
Don't assume everyone's mind works like yours . . . there's this guy I know from Debating Society and he put forward the argument that if people shouted offensive things in the street, nobody would listen to them, because people aren't stupid and they would realise this person's opinion is invalid and not listen to them. He didn't understand that for me, if you say something to me often enough, I will start to internalise that belief, even if I know you don't mean it when you say it. And I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one whose mind works like this.
Point being - everyone's mind works differently, and just because YOU may be able to control your life doesn't mean that it's possible for everyone.

*nods* wellll as someone who has spent far, far too many hours on sexuality sites, I've gathered the knowledge that a) teenagers are more likely to be slightly bisexual as their sexuality is still developing and b) very few people are 100% straight (there have been multiple studies done, and out of the population samples tested in the studies, obviously a low percentage identified as gay, but an even LOWER sample reported that they'd experienced 0% same-sex attraction) c) people who are bisexual are rarely attracted to men and women 50/50 - it can be 60/40 or closer to 90/10 or whatever and d) although there are general things that the majority of people is attracted to, everyone finds different things attractive and has different types and so on and so forth.
Incidentally, I've recently been thinking I might be the L in LGBT. Fun times.
