I have just pressed SEND.
By pressing SEND, I have emailed off the completed book to my agent and editor. It will now be sent to the copyeditor who, amongst other things, will be checking for grammar and spelling mistakes that I've missed but, more importantly, will be ensuring that everything I've written makes sense.
She will be checking facts and figures and timelines, scouring her notes on the other books to make sure I haven't contradicted myself... A good copyeditor in invaluable, and I have a great one.
It's done. I wrote the two Scapegrace chapters that I'd left until last. Oh, and I ALSO included the winner of the Die Horribly competition...
It took me until last night to pick a winner. I was sent 30 finalists out of everyone who entered. Of those 30, I quickly whittled it down to 15. Then, not so quickly, down to 10. Then it took me ages to narrow it down to 5. Then 3.
There were some great entries. Lots of funny reasons why people reckoned they should be the reader I pick to kill horribly in the book. But I needed something specific. I needed something that would fit in with what I'd written. And there was only one reader who fit PERFECTLY.
So congratulations to Lewis Holmes, from the UK. You shall have the distinct honour of being Horribly Killed in The Dying of the Light.
Lewis' death was the last thing I had to write. Now it's all over. Sure, I'll be sent the copyeditor's notes to approve, and there'll be a little more fiddling around between now and printing time, but...
... but it's over. I have finished writing Skulduggery Pleasant.
I think I need to lie down now.

Well remember how I said that school changed the year eleven lunch times? Well due to this tomorrow will be the very last time we spend lunch as a group..it might be the last time I see some of them. So for the very short time that is lunch we're forgetting about the fact we're at school, that people can see us, that it might be the end, and we're having a table party. We're celebrating 2 years of being a table. Two short years. It wasn't long enough really. But we're still celebrating.

*the t-rex turns its giant head to watch the thing approach*
*it begins to run towards her*
*grins and gets ready*
*Enters past*

*the t-rex charges the girl jaws wide and gaping*
*grins and moves as a blur towards the dinosaur running past its open mouth*
*the t-rex spins swinging its head after the girl*
*jumps up and lands on its head, between its eyes*
*swings its head to remove the girl*
*holds on and runs over its giant head to its neck*
G'night little monster.
*swings down and clings to it, biting deep into its neck*

I had Kit Kats for NJ and I have the pile with her address, and the books to be sent. So, my Dad ate the candy I bought for her
((Okay, where was I. Ah yes. The t-rex))
*drinks deeply from the t-rex's neck at it swings it head around trying to dislodge her*
*closes her eyes and grins the blood flowing into her mouth in a warm, steady stream*
*absently pulls a bottle from her bag*
*taps the sigil on the bottom of it while still holding on*
*bites harder causing more blood to flow free*
*removes her mouth and replaced it with the bottle*
*licks her lies clean grinning crazily*
*waits until the t-rex is drained dry before putting a cap on the bottomless bottle*
*pulls out one of her daggers*
*removes one of the t-rex's hands and slips it into her bag*
*puts the dinosaur into a funny position to puzzle future archelogoists*
*walks around looking for prehistoric vampires or werewolves*
*eyes a darker shade than before from the blood*
*climbs up a large hill*
*reaches the top quickly and looks down at the sudden drop on this side*
*spots 4 figures below*
*grins and let's out a slow lazy whistle*
*the figures heads snap up*

*jumps down before they can reply*
*easily absorbs the shock of the fall*
*looks at the people*
*3 vamps 1 werewolf*
*the werewolf snarls and makes frantic hand gestures to the vampires*
*the vampires just stare at her, specifically at her forehead*
What are you staring at?
*touches her forehead*
*no blood on it or anything*
*stares back*
*one of the vampires step forwards and run a hand over her forehead in a confusing pattern*
*they leave behind a slight residue which makes clearing the symbol of banishment that had been carved there to mock her*
*the people gather together most hissing or growling in distaste*
*she'd forgotten about that symbol*
*in a flash of speed one of the vampires is behind her putting her in an arm lock*
*another has a tight grip on her right shoulder*
*the final vampire and the werewolf stand before her*
What are you doing?!
*the werewolf and vamp exchange their rapid hand signing with each other before seemingly coming to an agreement*
*the werewolf pulls free a jagged looking knife and passes it to the vampire*
What are you doing?! Why do you have a knife?!
*the vampire slowly approaches holding the knife in a tight grip and murmuring strange sounds*
*pulls against the vampires holding her*
Let me go! What are you going to do??
*the vampire comes closer*
*my struggles become stronger, for worried*
*its no use, she against another vampire who's strength matches hers*
*the cold knife is laid against the skin of her neck*

*launches herself backwards into the vamp behind her*
*they are both sent rolling away*
*away from the sharp knife*
*pulls free and jumps to her feet*
*runs off the others fast on her trail*
*she should've thought about that stupid symbol*
*weaves through the dense undergrowth*
*the vampires are very close now*
*only a step or so behind*
*she's screwed*
*turns and dives at the one behind her taking them to the ground*
*she's face vampires before, she'll do it again*
*punches the vamp in the face breaking its nose*
*the vampire ignores the blow and starts fighting back*
*becomes desperate as the others draw near*

*snarls and rips the throat out of the vampire before her throwing the corpse in front of the others*
*turns and runs again*
*one of the vampires behind her dive, grabbing her feet and tripping her*
*they are both immediatly upon her*
*the knife slashes across her skin ripping it open*
*screams out and turns to her back kicking at them*
*sends a kick into the knife holders face*
*punches the one on her*
*screwwwwwwed*
*kicks the one that had been on her in the face*
*punches knifey *
*grabs his wrist and twists causing him to drop the knife*
*catches it a swings it towards his throat only to be blocked*
*is punched in the stomach*
*curls over on herself and is slapped across the face*
*stumbles backwards*
*blurs and stabs the knife into one if their backs ripping it downwards causing a large gasj and lots of bleeding to occur*
*grins and turns to the one that had had the knife before*
*realises she is healing faster than him*
*nods and decides to use this as an advantage*
*runs the blade down her hand causing blood to squirt out*
*swings her hand at the vamp causing blood to splatter onto his face when he blocks her*
*he reels back in repulsion trying to wipe her blood away*
*runs in and stabs the knife clean through his throat*
*watches him fall back and to the floor*
*dead*
*grins and walks to back where the portal had been*
*its still open*
*walks through to the present day as the portal snaps shut behind her*
