He clutched his chest in pain and his upper half crouched. His heart gave a huge thump before stopping for a few seconds and starting again. He took a few test breaths and was satisfied that he was still alive. But what was that?*

Fabi turned her head....
And saw Sandra leaping and slashing at the robot, slicing off one of its laser-pointers. She saw Judith beating out the flames with a piece of black burlap. And then the light from the flames went out. No, it didn't go out. Someone was kneeling over her, blocking her line of vision. She squinted, trying to see more than a vague outline in the dim evening light.
"Are you alright?" The voice gave it away, then. It was Sebastian.
She nodded slowly. "I think so. You?"
He laughed, sort of awkwardly. "Could be worse. I could be left-handed."
Fabi scrambled to her feet. "What happened to your hand? I have some healing supplies in my wallet..."
Sebastian smiled somewhat sadly. "I'll be fine, but thank you."
Fabi noted that he kept his left hand hidden in his pocket. That probably meant he was lying about being fine. She was about to say something, when Sandra rushed past them, yelling. "There are more on their way. Too many. We need to retreat!" Judith was close behind her.
Sebastian turned to go, but stopped when he saw that Fabi hadn't moved.
"You already tried your metal power thing. It didn't work."
"That's because I wasn't angry enough. This time it's guaranteed. You should get out of range. I'm doing the slightly less controlled version."
"Meaning...?"
"It'll melt anything metal to a puddle, not just the robots."
"I told you before, I don't use a weapon."
"I can remake weapons pretty easily, but detailed electronics would take hours. You've got a phone. And that earpiece..." she trailed off. The earpiece was a tiny chip painted the same color as Sebastian's skin and basically hidden in plain sight. Perhaps she wasn't supposed to know about it. Oops.
His eyes widened slightly, but he quickly shook off the surprise. "The phone and the earpiece have both been silent for as long as I've been here." He carefully took the earpiece out of his ear, and tossed it and the phone to the ground.
Fabi was trying to think of a way to make him go, when Sandra turned back and wrinkled her eyebrow.
"Guys, I know you probably both want to stay behind and do something stupid, and are trying to talk the other out of it. That's really heroic and all but now really isn't the time for that. Come on. Both of you."
The tone in her friend's voice made Fabi decide not to argue. She held her arm in front of her, and in the reflective metal bracelet, watched Sebastian stop and look at his phone and earpiece, but leave them where they were. She wasn't sure what that meant.
