This year is the fiftieth anniversary of Doctor Who. To celebrate, Puffin Books asked eleven different authors to take a Doctor and write a story. When I was asked, I said I'd only do it if I could write for the tenth or eleventh incarnation. Puffin gave me Ten. I was a happy bunny.
It was such a joy to write this character. As you all know, I've been a fan of the show since I was a kid, and David Tennant holds joint top-spot with Matt Smith as my favourite Doctor. In my opinion, it was Tennant's era when the Doctor's love of dialogue really came out— that quick-fire patter that he does so well — and it was an absolute pleasure to channel that.
The Mystery of the Haunted Cottage will be released as an e-book on October 23rd (my birthday! Skulduggery's deathday!) and then it, along with the other stories, will be collected into a PHYSICAL book which will be out near the end of November.
There will be a video released in a week or two where I talk more about it, but in the meantime, here's a link to a snippet (which explains where the somewhat old-fashioned title comes from...)

((People singing ballads in the streets, bear-baiting of you have any taste for it (I certainly do not), some alchemy people (the historical definition of alchemy, not Adra's kind. Metal into gold and such), John Dee is an interesting and somewhat creepy historical figure from around that time, a magician-person. I'm not sure what year you're going for... Um... You could see people dunking a "witch" off the side of the bridge to see if she floats. That was a really stupid test, because if she survived, she must have used witchery to save herself, and they would probably burn her, but if she died, she was innocent. Not that it did her any good. There were little sweetmeat shops with herbal candies and fruits and such... I don't know...))
((Zaf... It is true that sometimes Ed tries to destroy the world in stupid ways. And that annoys me sometimes too, but do you see me asking him to go before he even does anything? Um, no. In fact, unless I'm mistaken, Ed was trying to help Mith and Ember and participate in the plot. What the =|||-|||| is wrong with that? Ed's characters are usually really overpowered, yeah. But people tell him that sort of a lot, and he can work on it. He's still a person. You still told an actual person, not just a name on a screen, to go. And then you said you weren't even really here, anyway.))

The min thing I don't like is the shift in expectations and different judgements and more focus, though. :)
Back to the subject. When you email someone to be mad at them, it sends out a message that you're really annoyed and that you're going to the effort to single them out for having a go at because you're that serious, but on the blog it's just a mad spur-of-the-moment ranty thing that is diluted by the crowd.

I keep having discussions with my friends about Grand Theft Auto V.
They think it's like the best game that has ever existed. But really, the missions are BORING.
I've completed the game 15%, and so far each of the missions have been exactly the same. You drive somewhere, talk to someone, end up in a giant shoot-out in events I don't completely understand and make a getaway.
I'm not saying it's a bad game, because some of the things you can do are EPIC. The world is done very well and the graphics are good, but in terms of content there's no DEPTH to it.
But as for messing about comes, it's one of the best games for that. I rode a BMX of a skyscraper. I also stole a jumbo jet. Got in a giant police chase after punching a businessman in the back of the head for no reason. Rolled down the side of a mountain in a jeep. Had a fist-fight with a shark. Flew a passenger plane over a military base and started getting shot at by about two hundred fighter jets who all fired missiles at me.
Needless to say I had to do an emergency landing on a highway.
I understand why it's won tonnes of awards and is considered good, but for me... five hours of the game and I'm bored of it.
I'll stick with Mass Effect.

Huh... where I live GTA V is EVERYWHERE. If you walk through a town there'll be like 100 places selling the game.
Then there are adverts on the TV, on the side of buses... it's EVERYWHERE. You can't go anywhere without seeing it.
And I'm like grr it isn't even that good for the missions, it isn't really such a big thing...

Apparently there's even a mission where you have to torture someone. I don't want to do that. Random crimes and stunts are my kind of thing, not torture.
I mean, I don't shoot anyone unless I'm fired upon first. Stealing cars is my kind of crime. Stealing jets are too.
But then there was the time I rode in to a military base on a BMX and managed to avoid all the tanks shooting at me to steal a fighter jet.
But really, GTA V is just a bit... meh.

Sorry I poofed . . . I was distant a bit, but it mostly wasn't my fault - the internet massively failed. I ended up deleting the wifi from y phone in attempt to find out the password to put in the laptop in case I needed it, and then was all ARGHHHHHHHHHHH until I remembered that I actually KNEW the password (*facepalm*), and then I registered it on my phone again, but it still wasn't connecting, obviously. I got slightly scred when the laptop was telling me it couldn't connect, because I hadn't had that message since the beginning when I couldn't connect to the wifi at all and we spent around an hour and a half fiddling with it and getting expasperated until we realised we needed to change the wifi security . . . hence new easilyer-remembered password that I can remembered . . .
