Spirit Lake

Here's a bit of an oddity...

Okay, so you all know what a fan of Ronda Rousey I am. In Women's Mixed Martial Arts, she is the UFC champ. She is an astonishingly admirable lady, brimming with confidence and wit. Some people call her arrogant, but then some people call ME arrogant, and we all know that's not true. Well, it's sort of true. Okay, it's true, but why be humble and boring when you can be arrogant and entertaining?

I am enough of a fan, in fact, that I sought out her signed gloves and won them at auction. Here they are, beside a pair of boxing gloves owned by THE greatest martial artist, certainly in living memory, one Mister Bruce Lee.

On Twitter, I follow two people. Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano. The fact that both people are very pretty women who can fight is a complete coincidence, I assure you. It's because of Twitter, however, that I heard about a project that Ronda's mum and sister are behind— something called Spirt Lake: The Game.

Spirit Lake, essentially, combines adventure video gaming with learning maths (or, as you Americans say, math), in an effort to make learning fun. Originally developed with Native American students in mind, they've realised that the Dakota (Sioux) angle— incorporating historically accurate aspects of tribal life and culture—  appeals to people and schools right across America. And you get to fire arrows! At wolves! While you learn to count! What's not to love??

And if this works like they hope it will, this could be the beginning of something huge. This could revolutionise teaching, and learning— not just in America but across the world— and it could be just the thing that's needed to help struggling students make that singular, all-important leap. This could change people's lives.

So I heard about this, and the Kickstarter campaign they were running to fund the next stage of development, and I figured I may as well send some money over to help them along. After all, the better kids do in school, the longer they stay in school, and the longer they stay in school, the more chance they have of stumbling across my books, right? Right.

As a reward for helping out, they have given me the chance to actually BECOME a character in this game. But I couldn't possibly accept. The fact is, I am amazing. I am awesome. If I were to make a cameo appearance in ANY game, I would make every other aspect of the game pale in comparison. And I couldn't do that to all their hard work. So I asked Ronda's mum if it'd be okay if I could hold a mini-competition HERE, not only for my Ameriminions but for ALL my Minions, and the winner of THAT would get the chance to become a character. If you win, the animators will create an avatar using your name and likeness and as if by magic— you will be INSIDE a video game.

It'll be like Tron only... y'know... you probably won't die.

Probably.

And even though the game is only planned for release in America (right now), the competition is open to anyone of any age and nationality. So here's what you have to do. You have to tell me why YOU would be the most awesome video game character EVER. Once we reach the 5000 comment limit and the Comments Section closes, I shall collect all the entries, stick the names in a hat, and randomly pick the winner.

And yes, entering more than once, with DIFFERENT reasons, gives you a better chance of winning.

There. Bet when you opened up this Blog today you had no idea this was coming at you.

And @Mushroom: Huh. Didn't see your comment until the blog made me scroll up.

My eyes are as bad as that mess that pretends to be a brain, I swear.

And YES, but if Pythagoras is part of trigonometry shouldn't they treat it like it is? It's DISCRIMINATION, I tell you. Poor little Pythagoras! D:

They should call them SOH CAH TOA and Pythagoras, not trigonometry and Pythagoras. *glares*

I SHALL TAKE THIS UP WITH MY MATHS TEACHER NEXT LESSON.

UNLESS I FORGET.

OR CAN'T BE BOTHERED.

YEAH.

And I am annoyed at cos, as in cos and sin and tan. COZ AS IN BECAUSE IS SPELT WITH A Z, GODDAMMIT! Z IS THE AWESOMEST LETTER IN THE ALPHABET! STOP MISFEEDING EVERYONE INFORMATION!

Everyone may think they correct spelling is with an S, but no.

Cosine has brainwashed them all.

It's part of its plan to take over the world.

But maths is eternal and so cos is eteneral, which is why cosine's plan be taking so long.

Luciana said...

Trig also has Sine rule and Cosine rule and shizz... So, y'know... *shrugs*

Star Inkbright said...

Cosine has eternity, you see.

Plus it is imperative to the plan that the plan stay unnoticed.

So slow is the way to go. :)

Lewis Ravenscroft / Rhydian Blake said...

Are you guys talking about maths?

Star Inkbright said...

I was mostly referring to my sheet, but yeah. XD

AND OF COURSE THERE IS THE COSINE RULE. BECAUSE COSINE IS RULING SOME OF OUR WORLD. AND ITS RULE IS SLOWLY EXPANDING. It may just start in Maths, but you see, it is already in English with because/cos, and it will slowly spread all over the subjects, and then all over the world. *nods*

THERE SHALL BE AN EVIL DICTATORSHIP, AND COSINE SHALL BE OUR EMPEROR.

I would make a good game character because i'm smart, witty, athletic and oh so very sarcastic

Star Inkbright said...

You may if you want. :)

(But may I just add that there are no limits to the power of cosine and cosine logs none of its activities least the logs be discovered (cosine has an impeccable memory, like a Twilight vampire's) and cosine . . . uh . . . uses calculus to . . . to . . .work out evil world-domination stuff that is too evil and too dominative for my mind to comprehend! *nods*)

Star Inkbright said...

HI MARANESS! :)

No, I do not know what liamriam is. I cannot comprehend the plan, remember? :)

Edward Fletcher said...

Lewis Ravenscroft / Rhydian Blake said...

Star you're really confusing me with maths. Which is odd since everybody says I'm good at maths

Anonymous said...

There are MANY reasons I would be an awesome video game character. I would have an iconic look as I have fiery red hair and look like an innocent girl but could leap into action at any moment. The other characters wouldn't want to get on my bad side because of my ability to react and injure in a split second. I enjoy maths and learning so I wouldn't be afraid to give helpful hints but still keep my reputation as a feared, awesome and super stylish warrior. I always look out for my friends and am very loyal but I will always fight for what I believe in. The thing I find most annoying is when I can't figure out someone. People might feel the same way about maths problem so I could relate to this and help them in their journey to strive and succeed. I would not only help them conquer the game. But I would help them conquer MATHS!

I hope this ^ sums up my full video game awesomeness potential and how much I am destined to be in this game.

Star Inkbright said...

@Mushroom: I don't know. It makes sense to those who can comprehend the plan, but I cannot, because it is too evil and dominative. If I was more evil/dominative/both, it would make perfect sense, but alas, I am me, and I do not have a brain. Therefore, I cannot explain it.

But it must fit in somehow. Cosine is immensely intelligent and does nothing without reason.

Lewis Ravenscroft / Rhydian Blake said...

Star, who's Mushroom?

Star Inkbright said...

@Rhydian: THIS ISN'T MATHS, THIS IS WORLD DOMINATION! *screams*

But the first part of the world conquered was part of maths, so. :)

*giggles*

I should definitely be in this game because I am part Sioux (Sue the Sioux) and in a past life I was totally Pocahontas.

Lewis Ravenscroft / Rhydian Blake said...

Maths and world domination are the same thing to me.

Fabi S. - Fashion-Conscious Fire Wraith said...

Hello!?

Erm... I would be a good video game character because I currently have a mustache. Granted, it's a chocolate milk mustache, but it is still cool!

That is completely relevant.

Star Inkbright said...

Mushroom is Scáth. :)

I mean Luciana.

Luciana Clover Scáth, yeah.

No, she has no idea why I call her Mushroom either.

Tbh, I don't really get it myself. '~'

OOH! OOH! I THINK I WORKED IT OUT!
Cosine might be trying to calcul us!
It's like calling us, but with CULS!!!!!!!!!!

. . . It does not make sense to be neither, but if I did, I would be evil, so I am gald it seems like nonsense. *nods*

@Rhydian: Of course it was confusing. Cosine is far more intelligent than we, and things that seem like simple level-one Sudoku to it is A-level Biology to us.

Star Inkbright said...

@Fabi: NO. WE MUST STOP THE WORLD DOMINATION. WE MUST STOP COSINE! *screams*

I think my character would make a pretty cool, no wait scratch that, an amazingly awesome video game person because she would be the nerdy one who uses the knowledge she gets from books and tv shows and films to defeat the bad guys. She would be witty like Sherlock, smart like Tony and Bruce and downright confusing like the doctor and captain Jack Sparrow, no wait, Captain Jack Harkness, or both. If she couldn't be a witch then she would carry her exact copy wand prop (that she broke into H.P. London Studios to get) everywhere to fool the bad guys into fearing her, if she was ever in trouble she'd find someone close to the doctor, probably the kids Clara minds right now, and wait for him to come to earth and help. And I suppose she'd have to let Clara come but whatever. And she would also take lessons from Skulduggery and Valkyrie, and maybe visit Stephanie's house, defeat the reflection and wait until the real Valkyrie/Stephanie visits and explain why they need to get Sanctuary to help me get this because she would truly be a hero for nerds all over the world. She also carries salt everywhere, ya know, to keep away the demons and all.

Firstly, I dedicate to Luciana Clover Scáth. She's perfect, and even if she doesn't know that, she is.

I ded to Jubi, Star, Fabi, Kessie, Saphy, Seph, Em and every other Bloglandian here:)

I ded to One Direction, Little Mix, Disturbed, Marina and the Diamonds and music in general.

I ded to Blogland and Derek :)

And I ded to friendship. As Star states perfectly on the last page, lots of people agree how happy they are here in Blogland. :) I agree, too. I love you all, guys<3

Sorry I distonated - doing French homework.

The girl in my textbook usually goes on holiday to the beach but this year she went somewhere else. There where stunning, stunning views and her dad was taking tons of pictures, but then he dropped the camera in a body of water. Lol. She was recording it on something for some reason and then she went and posted the video on YouTube. XD
Her dad was, needless to say, not happy. :P
Next year, they're remaining at the beach. XD

Character two would have a power like in Inkheart where whatever she reads comes to life, she would keep paragraphs from books that could help her in all different situations handy and so she could defeat anything or anyone that comes her way just by doing what she loves best. Also, people don't have to get sucked into books for her to use her power.

Harriet Lemon Langley said...

I'd be an awesome character because I'd be the bad guy you weren't expecting. So throughout the game the protagonist would be relying on me, and all the time I'd be pulling the strings and be a really malevolent antagonist [like that maths teacher you hated but respected because they could do things with numbers you could only dream of.] As a game character I’d be a specialist in traps and technology and constantly be locking doors behind me as I was chased. And all the time I’d be really sarcastic and enjoy putting the protagonist down like ‘Really? You meant to subtract that number making a negative?’

Or I’d be a protagonist that was really reluctant but when push came to shove I’d be really up for whatever the task demanded. And if I went up against a final boss it would be a sharp battle of wits. But the whole time I’d be like ‘Oh really? I have to do this maths puzzle again?’ And if I managed [of course I’d manage] I’d just flop and make a cup of tea.

I’d love to be a Victorian character. A woman who dressed in a Gentleman’s suit with a top hat and cane. I’d speak in lavish tones and have a velvety voice that made my irony and sarcasm a little less sharp and incisive. So a little Steam Punk-esque and a master of hand-to-hand. Oh, and I’d also ingest copious amounts of tea.

Okay more ideas. This time I’d be a magician. And it’s not your common magician, like actual magic. So if there was an annoying person, or a sum I couldn’t do I’d make it easier or *ominous voice* make it go away…

Idea number 589 is that I’d be a member of the circus. I’d still have a top hat, but I could spit fire and be really acrobatic.

Another, maybe I could be really computer savvy. Like REALLY computer savvy and hack systems and set computer based traps [Deus Ex style (:]

After loving games for practically my whole life I’d want to be a Pokémon trainer. Sora, Roxas, Riku or Kairi out of Kingdom Hearts, Harley Quinn, The Joker or The Riddler from Batman. Or my level 23 Nord from Oblivion. Perhaps my fully renegade Shepard from Mass Effect. So as for the character I’d be: and evil amalgamation of all these!!

Cold and calculating, now that would be fun. A character that analyses and oversees really difficult decisions but who doesn’t let on that they’re stressed or nervous about it.

Idea number: OVER 9000!!!!! Powers change according to the weather. So if it starts raining heavily I can send a hose stream of water at my enemies [or friends if they irk me slightly]. And if t got very dry and arid air I could cause explosions from the lack of moisture [not sure that’s possible SUSPEND YOUR DISBELIEF]. And in snow I could freeze people [would have been useful in rugby…*grumbles*]. As a result I’d resemble Castform from Pokémon

Water breathing could be pretty cool. Swim around exploring the deep blue, or hiding from maths in a pond, that could work too. So maybe I’d look totally normal until you saw my gills. Or, maybe I’d be bluey green to look like the pond I’m hiding in.

Thought manipulation could be really useful for my power as a character. I could demoralise a boss during or before a boss fight or really psyche up my friends and clan for a final battle. But hearing people’s thoughts would probably screw me up a little so maybe I’d dress in hoodies, tight jeans and converse so I’d look like a loner and people would stay away giving me some radio silence.

Harriet Lemon Langley said...

Okay, probably my final idea. Time control. So basically a time lord. I’d be quirky and awkward and probably choose a companion as sweet as Sarah Jane Smith. But I’d be different in that I’d be the first female time lord…time lady to get the spotlight. And I’d call my TARDIS Marion. And I’d probably still wear a suit, but with Doc Martens and a scruffy top hat because my sense of fashion leaves something to be desired XD.

I lied, here’s my final idea. If the character had to be based on ourselves with no powers, just us, I’d have a couple of qualities to offer. I’m very opinionated and hold strong feelings on controversial stories. I’m used to arguing with people and don’t back down easily. I’ve been working on my maniacal laughter. I have a ridiculously high level of sarcasm and am often told I’m too smart for my own good [not that it’s ever been used as a compliment]. I have an extensive collection of Suicide Squad, Batwoman and Injustice: Gods Among Us comics and also shelves full of manga meaning I overact and get pretty hyper like I’m in a manga sometimes. Oh, and I’ve have a wide reaching knowledge of Skulduggery Pleasant knowledge and a collection of comebacks lifted from the series that are fantastic to use in arguments. So, to conclude, as a character I’d bring comic book knowledge, a sense of pride, a reluctance to lose arguments, a back catalogue of alternative music and metal, a silly amount of posters and more sarcasm and tea than Britain can bear. Yes, that’s why I’d make a pretty decent video game character *sips tea*.

Maegan Harty said...

So really Harriet you are on your final idea a female Sheldon from the big bang theory!

Does anybody remember yesterday I mentioned a story where us lot from Blogland are part of a war thing. I've improved my story idea.(I don't have a title yet) Here's the synopsis;

The world of Skulduggery Pleasant is in danger. Someone wants to kill Derek Landy. And the only people who can save him and the world of magic are the people from Blogland. But there's something else sinister going on.

Good? Hopefully it'll be a lot better than my other story Hide. Does anybody want to be in it? And if you have any title suggestions don't hold back. I know this is totally random but oh well.
