50267 words written... and Valkyrie and Skulduggery are barely in it.
This doesn't mean, of course, that they won't be taking their usual starring roles in Book 8. Of course they will. But I've had to approach this one in a slightly different way than normal.
Because this book is about, essentially, total war, I've had to think long and hard about how the different sides would fight— such as what tactics they would use in both the short and long term. It means I can't chop and change sequences like I usually would. If they're written, then they've been written for a very specific reason, and I can't mess about with that. So I figured the best way to write about these military actions is to write them FIRST. Write the skirmishes and the battles and the politics and the arguments, and get it all down on the page. Then, once I have the military aspect taken care of, I go back and write my usual Skul & Val stuff around and on top of it all.
It's an interesting way of working, to willingly ignore your main characters for large chunks of writing time. I sincerely hope it works...
Oh, and sometime in February I shall announce the title. I've had this title in mind for YEARS. Some of the early alternatives were:
Skulduggery Pleasant: The Billingsworth Continuum.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Behind Gold Eyes.
Skulduggery Pleasant: It's War, Baby.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Revenge of the Screaminator.

Skulduggery Pleasant: Gut-Eater.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Skulduggery Goes Camping.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Things Get Nasty.
Skulduggery Pleasant: People Gonna Die.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Readers Gonna Cry.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Horace.
And amazingly, the actual title is better than ANY of those! I know, right?

Then I'm doing History and German, giving me a complete EBacc, plus French and Art, and if I can't take that combination of subjects, Geography is my alternative option!
Plus I'm doing Further Maths, coz it's an iGCSE you do after school this year. :)

Sorry for poofing...my mother came in and Ieni modern studies is in the same catogry as history and geography but its basically just things that hapen in the world recently like in the last 10 to 20 years :D and nope I dont do the gcse thingmabob your talking about I do curriculum for excellence ... long story but the year groups above me do standard grade then credit, then int 1 or 2 then they go on to do highers and advanced highers :D

... you all have a different education to me but modern studies is basically what its called you study modern events and yeah I do curriculum for excellence so I do national 5 (which is the top level before higher because Im a blue smarty) then if I want intermidiate 1 or 2 and then either a 1 yr or a 2 yr higher then I can do advanced highers aswell afterwards in my 6th year of high school :D

just had to say, this series is the work of a genius. ;) I love to read, but not many series would I read over again, and with the Skulduggery series I definitely would re-read it. So glad I listened to my friend. Would see the book at bookstores, but it never caught my eye. But then a friend who was reading it told me my personality was a mixture of Skulduggery's and Valkyrie's, saying "if an author pinpointed you as a person it'd be in these two characters." Then a few days after I picked up the first two books, and have loved the series ever since. A story written well. ^_^

Oh, and Val- Flame's been asking Derek to put a fight scene with Ivy and him in the book. Not sure Derek would actually do that, but if he does... And it gets in a movie... What will you do then?
