50267 words written... and Valkyrie and Skulduggery are barely in it.
This doesn't mean, of course, that they won't be taking their usual starring roles in Book 8. Of course they will. But I've had to approach this one in a slightly different way than normal.
Because this book is about, essentially, total war, I've had to think long and hard about how the different sides would fight— such as what tactics they would use in both the short and long term. It means I can't chop and change sequences like I usually would. If they're written, then they've been written for a very specific reason, and I can't mess about with that. So I figured the best way to write about these military actions is to write them FIRST. Write the skirmishes and the battles and the politics and the arguments, and get it all down on the page. Then, once I have the military aspect taken care of, I go back and write my usual Skul & Val stuff around and on top of it all.
It's an interesting way of working, to willingly ignore your main characters for large chunks of writing time. I sincerely hope it works...
Oh, and sometime in February I shall announce the title. I've had this title in mind for YEARS. Some of the early alternatives were:
Skulduggery Pleasant: The Billingsworth Continuum.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Behind Gold Eyes.
Skulduggery Pleasant: It's War, Baby.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Revenge of the Screaminator.
Skulduggery Pleasant: When Warlocks Attack.
Skulduggery Pleasant: A Very Nice Picnic.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Brain-Puncher.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Gut-Eater.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Skulduggery Goes Camping.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Things Get Nasty.
Skulduggery Pleasant: People Gonna Die.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Readers Gonna Cry.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Horace.
And amazingly, the actual title is better than ANY of those! I know, right?

Hi Zaf!
Even if you checked random boxes, at least you'll probably get SOME right. And that's not a fail. Even if it is. At least you didn't get ZERO for not checking any boxes.
Hi Brave!
HI ZAF!
HI BRAVE!
Don't worry, Mara. I would of picked the answer that sounded nice when you sing it. XD
I am thinking of making a blog... As like a continuation of the story I wrote up there *points to the long comment about 20 mins ago*
I doubt you failed, Mara. I was convinced I failed my English Literature GCSE. And got one of the highest marks in the country, so... There's always hope.

Zaf, I was watching THG one time with my friend, and when the bit came on where Katniss and Peeta have to shake hands, she started to sing the chorus of Boyfriend -_-
It was sooooooo funny, though.
Ahahaha!!! I love THG though its so awesome
Ome time I was watching THG on my laptop, and when Katniss shot the guy who killed Rue, I jumped and dropped the laptop C: cause I'm awesome like that.
*one
THG IS AWESOME!! CF the movie comes out in November....
*laughs*
Did the laptop survive??
MARVEL, MARALIE, HIS NAME IS MARVEL.
Played by Jack Quaid.
OH SHMIT.
THE REALITY OF GOING BACK TO SCHOOL HAS JUST HIT ME. D:
Poor Prim!
Um, yeah, I think it did Missy... I mean, I hope it did. O.O
I have to get up in the morning, so I might go sleep now...
BYEEEEEEEE!!
*throws tea at everyone*
*disappears*
MARVEL. THANKS LUCI. I COULDN'T REMEMBER >.<
Bye Missy! *hugs*
I just got back from a fairly long walk me and my mum went on.
Which was nice. I like walking. They would have hated it, though. They don't like walking unless we stop and build a dam on the way or something.
By They, I mean my bro and sis . . . Me and my mum occasionally refer to them as They. Usually when we say that They would or wouldn't like something.
SO HI! I still have all my homwork to do. Groan. And no, it should not be in asteriks, because I would irl SAY groan. :)
Hi Star! :)
WbVERYd.
We also often refer to walks as ponkies.
Because Dem was one day calling a walk we were going on a ponky walk ("I don't want to go on this ponky walk!"), and the name stuck, so now walks are ponkies . . . yeah.
HI MARA!
I wbd too. Need to do my homework, but WILL be finding an Asylum vid . . .
Aloha.
My mom and her radio, TWO days in a row!
It's supposed to be a Saturday! I should still be asleep!
Since I'm clearly not, I'm here.
Hi!
HI FABI! :)
Wbd.
Distant as well!
Plotting, seething, grimacing and being strangely cheerful about it!
Oh, and HI STAR!
HI ZAF!
Hiya xD in crying watching THG they in the arena and the girl from 8 got killed
[A moment of silence in memory of...actually, I can't really do a moment of silence, because there's EAR-HAMMERING MAROON 5 PLAYING!
Hi! :)
So, sorry girl from 8!
Hi, Mara! [hugs]
Oh, good, Payphone is over.
[Has moment of silence]
Well...at least I actually like Viva la Vida, even of its way ridiculously too loud.
*if it's
Aw no, I quite like Payphone. It won me first place in a talent contest. It's a very good song. *nods*
Damn loud radio i been up since its 11:14am by me so
Congratulations about the talent contest.
Distant, theoretically punching mom's stupid radio in the nose.
And I'm sure your version of payphone sounds better than theirs. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt.
As in, I am assuming/knowing that you are awesome, even if you like Payphone.
Meh, it was ages ago. I wasn't actually good, it was just my mother knew the judges.
I still love their songs though...
I LIKE Payphone . . .
HI ZAF!
I know I've already said hi to you others, but I feel like saying hi, so:
HI MARA!
HI FABI!
Hehe :3
I can assure you, you'd like it considerably less if you couldn't escape it. Also, hearing it at ear-hammering volume first at 6:30, then at 8:00 when it's a SATURDAY!!!!!!! does a sarcastic lot to make you like it.
Yay Glimmer died
I understand why you percieve the song the way you do, Fabi.
Whatever I do NOT understand is my persistent formality, but oh well.
*What
My apologies for temporarily and impolitely vanishing. My Internet connection is, let us just say fishy.
In my experience, it is far wiser to be formal when insulting music. You can never know beforehand if your companions are secretly obsessed over whatever you are insulting.
And then my attempt at formality makes them laugh at me instead of rant about awesomeness! Yippee!
Nice tip. *noddles*
NOODLESSSSSSSSSSSSS. I like noodles better than spagga-tee. However, I like pasta better than noodles, me tink. Depends. I don't like tomato sauce much. I like my pasta sauceless best. :)
Ah, and my formality went and died in a hole. Or maybe it died out of a hole, but it probably got buried in a hole after it died. Even if it was cremated, the ashes were probably buried, so anyway, my formality is probably dead and in a hole. *pokes hole with foot*
And on that note, I have finally found a way to fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is, I took out the battery and unplugged it both at once.
My sister broke the power off button years ago.
O_O
If you break a power off button, do you have to wait for the battery to die every time you want to turn it off?
This video is incredible, but I didn't use it, so it deserves to have the link pasted here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_sOlXmHEhk
I may switch the videos over at some point.
I like udon noodles in soup, radiatori 'n' cheese, four cheese ravioli (the three-cheese is a waste of money at our grocery store) with tomato sauce, and rigatoni with butter and parmasean.
Unfortunately, my mom doesn't care which pasta shapes are my favorite! She just gets it in bulk, which means either all penne or a variety pack with bow ties, radiatori and rotini.
And now that the radio is fixed, I can have a moment of silence in remembrance of your formality!
[moment of silence]
It's not BROKEN broken, it's only broken sometimes, but my mom keeps denying that we need a new radio.
Usually we just turn the volume down to mute, but that wasnt working either, or unplug it, but there was battery. THERE'S NEVER BATTERY!
[deep breath]
I'm sure whoever put the beef-witted battery in meant well.
Aw. Danke. :)
I'm not bothered about pasta shapes much. I like spagga-tee and ordinary penne, which is good, because they're EVERYWHERE.
Sauces are more significant for me. :/
I do like sauceless pasta though.
I need to go have breakfast now... It's not technically time for another half-hour, but I NEED FOOD.
See you later!
FOURS FABI!
Meh, and I replied half an hour late. :P
I'm finally doing my homework. One of my big English homework isn't actually all that hard, or really all that big . . . :)
The other one isn't that big, but it's HARD. Because we have to 'design a new and unique hotel' and no ideas come to mind. It can be as crazy as we want, however - a hotel made of sweets, for example.
And then I want to write the train ride for THGC. :(
Water is a good good thing.
Water is a good thing.
I'm back-ish now. Distantly. I'm writing for the MC, for a *probably* really good chapter and watching lyrical-contemporary dances on YouTube.
And moaning to an unresponsive, unemotional comments section with nobody to look at it doesn't solve anything. :P
IT'S THE GUARDIAN AND OBSERVER WEEKEND!
Sorry, just had to say that.
It's the seconf day of the Guardian and Oberserver weekend tomorrow. I am almost halfway through my Guardian and Observer weekend. The Aussies are moreway through their Guardian and Observer weekend. The Americans are lessway through their Guardian and Observer weekend. My Guardian and Observer weekend has been good so far. Next Guardian and Observer weekend we will hopefully be doing nothing. I like doing nothing, particulary on my Guardian and Observer weekends.
Maybe I should abbreviate Guardian and Observer weekend to GOW.
Gow? *giggles* What type of word is that? Sounds like a gun sound on a Wii or DS game. *pretends to be firing a gun* Gow, gow, gow!
Ah, now I'm just talking tomyself. Hey, now rhymes with gow.
And how.
And ow.
And show if you pronouce it wrong.
Which makes it sound like shout without the T.
Not like shou' though. Coz when people skip a T off words they kinda half say it. It sounds a bit like an indistinctive "yuh". Mate. ma'e. Mayuh. Maya. WTH? I got 'civilisation that predicted the end of the world in 2012' out of 'friend'? Shows what kind of friend's I have. *nudges my fellow Bloglandians*
Changed my mind. Ma'e is like maaaaay. The 'ay' is held long than in 'may'.
Yeah, that's what people do. Expand the vowel before. *nods*
Now, Starry should go back to writing about car journeys . . .
Here yet again :)
Wbd, writing for MC (Molliana and Liberty's chapter - can't wait to finish it) and basically wrapping my cousin's present.
*friends
WB FABIO!
Wbd, hmwk.
Wow, Star.
Impressive.
GOW GOW GOW!
HI MARA!
And wow rhymes with gow! :)
How is your GOW so far, Mara? You too, Fabi? :)
I seem to be missing something.
Then again, I'm always missing something.
Happy GOW?
My weekend has just begun, with the whole radio incident...
My mom is still unconvinced that we need a new one!
I told her a new alarm clock at least, but she says that the radio as it exists is more effective than an ordinary alarm clock she could just reach over and turn off...
Um, yeah. Wake up the whole house.
Hey guys!
And a very happy GOW to you too! Happy week, in fact!
*whispers* What was once called the weekend is now called the GUardian and Observer weekend. THEY OWN THE WEEKEND!
*as best as my memory can remember*
Man in lift on advert to other man in same lift on same advert: Did you have a good weekend?
Second man: What?
First man: *louder* Did you have a good weekend?
Second man: I don't know what you're talking about . . .
First man: Oh, right - did you have a good /Guardian and Observer/ weekend?
Second: Oh, it was okay . . . Didn't do much, just did a few odd jobs around the house, you know . . . Didn't do much last Guardian and Observer weekend either, but next Guardian and Observer weekedn we're planning to -
First man: Why do you keep saying that?
Second man: Saying what?
First man: You know - the whole 'Guardian and Observer weekend' thing.
Second man: *disbelieving look* Because THAT'S IT'S NAME!
Whole lift: *starts laughing at what a stupid question it was*
HI MELICA!
@Fabi: *frowns* Your WHAT has just begun?
Oh, never mind, I'm not as crazy as the lift people. XD
HI MELICA! How's your GOW so far? :)
My wah...?
*ITS
Guardian and Observer weekend. I abbreviated it.
The Guardian and the Observer should be paying me for all this advertising. XD
My parents actually buy the Observer, did you know? . . .
The guardian and observer have literally the lowest number of readers EVER in scotland... the spiderman comics have more readers...
I'm afraid I still don't entirely get it.
Distanter than I'd planned to be...
Hi, Mel!
Well, still, THEY OWN THE WEEKEND.
How exactly do they own the weekend im confuzzled...
And I forgot to do this earlier...
STAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! HEY!!!!
Hey Fabi!!!
I UPDATED MY MC. *nods*
[Nods]
Aloha.
It's a publicity stunt. [Nods like I actually know what I'm talking about]
Mara, do you want me to fix it so it comes up first?
It ought to, it's a new chapter.
I'm embarrassed by how badly I remembered the advert . . .
It's here. And it's not a great advert or anything. But btter than the Luminosity one, THATONEISSOBORING. D:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVySc2Qu3WI
Ok, Nvm, and good title change.
Reading...
Seriousy. I don't see how the Luminosity avdert can GET any more boring . . .
Thanks Fab :)
It seems to be first now, Or is that a different one?
Circles are fun
BUT I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!!!!!!
[Freaks out]
Circles are freaky. They symbolise purity. From my reading experience, people who start saying about purity are evil.
There is someone on Chatzy who's sign in name is Chase...
I only signed in for a minute and then signed back out when I saw it...
I have no idea what's going on...
Circles are. What they are is out of my part. I am no fee'd post, my lady. Neither am I making sense.
:( That must have been sad, Em . . .
Hi. How's you GOW so far? :)
*your
I can see how that would upset you...
[hugs Em]
WAIT. WHY IS MY POST SUDDENLY FIRST?! *panicks*
Aw, that must have been really upsetting, Em :( *hugs tightly*
I DON'T KNOW!!!!! I WAS GOING TO FIX IT, BUT IT DID ITSELF!!!!!!! MAYBE IT WAS GOBLINS!!!!!!! [joins in panicking]
To talk more sensibly, I think it had something to do with you changing the title. Did you revert it to draft and republish it? That would do it.
*hugs Iriminion*
Oh. Oh yes. That's what I did. *nods* *stops panicking*
[also stops panicking]
Good. It wasn't goblins.
Cause after reading Artemis Fowl, goblins are actually scaring me...
Goblin? Goblins are far too stupid to managed that. "Let me give you an example. One of the B'wa Kell generals, and this is their top fairy, was caught trying to pass off forged credit card slips by signing his own name." Artemis Fowl: The Artic Incident, Eoin Colfer.
I didn't know that off by heart. Boo hoo. :(
Goblins, Artemis Fowl style or otherwise, are always formidable yet underrated opponents.
Im rereading SP currently on Mortal Coil
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! YOU CANNOT HAVE MENTIONED ARTEMIS FOWL BEFORE I DID!
*sees status as top AF fan on the blog slowly slipping away* :P
It could have been a Goblin from I-forget-the-title-but-the-main-character-was-named-Erin. Those goblins were actually pretty clever. They were also more mischievous than evil.
Wait main character is named Erin?!
Le my given name
Indeed, Sir.
One can never be too wary of goblins.
Hi Sir! :)
I'M READING IT NOW. I'm only on the first book though.
*snorts* I disagree. They're overestimated because people find themselves unable to comprehend just how stupid they are.
"It was a testament to the goblin's stupidity that he could be trapped in a melting vehicle during a lockdown with a LEP officer firing at him, and still think he had the upper hand." Artemis Fowl: The Eternity Code.
A leprechaun lives in my school's music room. In the wall. Even though leprechauns don't exist, as stated in KotW. *nods*
MAYBE IT'S A GOBLIN.
Ah. I've read AF tons of times. Except I've only read the eight (and worst) book once. It is the newest, after all.
Well of COURSE they are below pitiable on the offensive, but when they're in their own element...
Well, it might have been Aerin or Eryn, but yes.
My given name is too uncommon for me to put here. It's French, and belongs in the 16th century.
I totally can't remember what the book was called. It was good, but I read SP right after it, and mostly forgot about it under all te awesomeness of SP, PWF and TFO.
Leprechauns do exist! Holly's a leprechaun/LEPrecon! Are you claiming Holly doesn't exist? O_O
WHICH BOOK SHOULD I BELIEVE?!? *panicks* *runs into wall*
There aren't any leprechauns around here. Unless they hate chocolate...
I don't know! [Puts Artemis Fowl on to read list]
*nods at Sir* True, true, true. Being locked in prison with goblins is a death sentence for dwarves like Mulch. He was about to be killed when he was sharing a cell with a few of them in Book 1. "And that had been in Police Plaza. He wouldn't last a week in general population." Artemis Fowl.
GOBLINS ARE REAL GUYS.
I was driving to my aunts house which is in the middle of no where and theres a lot of forest around us, it was late and dark and my car tire kinda just died so my parents had to replace it, while they were doing so I needed the toilet so my mum said just go in the forest, no one will see. So I did, and when I walked into the forest it was creepy as hell because it was dark but I thought I will pee myself if I dont just be brave so I was brave.
But anyway I was walking back to my car and something started moving behind this huge tree and I was starting to freak out, then when I turned away the thing moved from one tree to another and I swear to you that it resembled a goblin. I screamed then from the other direction my older brother came running and was asking whats wrong, I told him and so we looked around and high up in this massive tree was this thing like golem sitting staring at us. I screamed, my brother picked me up and we ran back to my car then my mum said whats wrong so again I told her, then when we got to my aunties house she said theres a myth that a goblin does live in that forest area, she even showed me several collectors myth and legend books (cause she believes in all this stuff) and I bassically crapped myself.
Mulch lied andpretended he diiiiied! O.O and he killed a RABBIT! D:
*Artemis Fowl: The Artic Incident.
Well, Skulduggery has be known to make stuff up, and Derek has very much been known to make stuff up. Remember Molly from Twitter? XD
On the other hand, Skulduggery Pleasant is, like, SKULDUGGERY PLEASANT.
Although, Artemis Fowl is ARTEMIS FOWL. :/
Believe whichever you believe. [shrugs]
I won't believe Artemis Fowl until I've at least read one of the books.
Or if you see one...
A leprechaun, I mean.
Then again, it could be a hallucination.
*bats eyelashes*
Ded to 1D, Fabi?
MEL THAT'S SCARY. O.O
So yeah goblins are real, and now I can say that I have met steven Moffat and seen a real life goblin :D
SP also portrays goblins as stupid, I just remembered.
MWAH HA HA. If AF and SP say it, it MUST be the truth.
Yeah I know right? And it wasnt like I was an eight year old with a big imagination I was just about to turn 13 ...
Mwahaha. GOBLINS ARE STUUUUPID. xD
I would have died, Mel. Seriously. O.o
Even if they don't exist: "Just because people aren't real doesn't mean they don't have feelings!"
I quoted one of my characters there . . .
Even my brother was scared O.O
Brb.
Okay Star :)
I liiive
I dedicate this page to Hayley Westenra, because her music and voice are just gorgeous.
I also ded to the memory of Chase. May he rest in peace.
[Considers] Ok, Mara, I will dedicate to 1D and all the other non-Maroon 5 pop music. Notably Adele and Kelly Clarkson.
Also, to intelligence, the MC, the secret project I'm working on (don't-let-me-forget-about-it!), Rufus, Mrs. L, and...
Possibly P. She lied, and she failed, and I can't help being mad at her, but she's going to have to face it sometime soon, and I wouldn't want to be in her shoes when she does. So I sorta-kinda-half-ded to her, because it's her own fault in the first place, but that doesn't mean people won't overreact to it.
Also to Mycroft and his Umbrella, and to my awesome Blogland friends, especially [insert your name here]H
Hi Zaf! :)
[nods] liiiiiving is goooooood.
Awesome ded Fab! :) *hugs*
YESSSSS 1D :D
Yeah so basically, the top two moments of my life so far are -
1. Meeting AND hugging Steven Moffat
2. Seeing and being stalked by a goblin.
And Mel, that's creepy. Seriously creepy.
Thanks, Mara! [hugs back]
Me likes the ded Fabi:)
Falalalalala lala la la
Hi Ieni! :) *hugs*
Hiya MonsterMouse! *hugs* :)
Ieni!! Hey!!! Did you hear? My story proves that goblins are real! Rejoice!
Thanks Ieni, and Hi!!!
I'm not sure what that H is doing there...but it is part of the ded! [nods]
Hello Fabi, Mara and Mel! *ninjaeroplanetacklehugs*
How are you?
Uh, I shall go inspect this story...
*runs around in circles like a crazy person*
I'm upside down, and I do not want to hear any loud music for the rest of the day, but other than that, I'm good!
BANANANANANANANANANANA BREAD FOR BREAKFAST THIS MORNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will be distant.
NEW PICTURE TIME!
Me right this second, getting ready for a party. :)
Ooo...I just had banana bread for dinenr and some for lunch and then I went on a shopping rampage with my sister in the afternoon and was going around in circles in New Look hiding from some girls in my year, whilst my sister was trying something on.
Mara I love your top and you're so pretty! Why can't I look like that? *sulks*
Ieni, it's an I <3 1D top :D and I'm not pretty! *sulks with Ieni*
You are pretty, Mara.
YOU DON'T KNOW YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL!
I, uh, take that back what I said about the top...
And in town I saw some posters of 1D in WHSmith and you were one of the Directioners I thought of *nods*
AND YOU ARE PRETTY MARA DON'T UNDERMINE MY NON-EXISTANT AUTHORITY!
I DON'T DESERVE THOSE WOOOOORDS. *runs into wall*
*sits in tree*
My tree YAY TREE!!!
Hehe. It is an awesome top. POSTERS?! WHERE?!? I NEED 4 MORE TO GET 30!!!
WTH MARA??? HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET SOOO PRETTY? THIS IS INSANITY THAT YOU DONT THINK YOUR PRETTY. INSANITY I TELL YOU!
*runs around in circles like insane person*
SORRY I VANISHED EARLIER
I was tidying up my room.
SO I CAN POSSIBLY GET A NEW BOOKCASE XD
That's a lot of posters, Mara!
Hi, Lucy!
Oooooh, tidying up room...I need to do that...wbd.
It is indeed Fabi.
And they're just my 1D posters. I have 7 Little Mix, 4 The Script, a signed Death Bringer poster and 3 other random ones with puppies and such. *nods*
If you bothered to read I said WHSmith ;P (of course when you become a teenager you will have an excuse to not be bothered to do anything).
Hey, Zaf and Clover! *ninjaeroplanetacklehugs* How are you both?
*pushes Zaf out of tree*
Yes, you are. There's warmth radiating from your smile AND YOU'RE REALLY PRETTY JUST ACCEPT IT BEFORE I GO JUMP OFF THE MOON. (I know this is impossible, but meh)
Gah...my room has a grand total of 0 posters - my mum won't let me -_-
STOP. STOOOP SAYING I'M PRETTY. STOP OR I SHALL SET THE HOUNDS ON YOU.
Hiya Luci! *hugs*
