She took a step forward as the person ordering at the counter walked a little way away to allow others to order behind her. Valkyrie looked in her pocket and fumbled around with something. “Soon,” Tanith whispered to her Texan boyfriend waiting patiently in the booth behind her. Valkyrie stepped forward again. Two people in front of her, one behind.
Tanith yawned, as that was the signal, and Billy-Ray Sanguine disappeared into the checkered floor, leaving small cracks where he left. He would distract the skeleton as Tanith made a grab for Val. A car horn beeped and the dark-haired girl spun around.
Tanith jumped up and tapped on her shoulder. She spun around and looked at her old friend. “What are you-” she began in a shocked whisper but Tanith cut in.
“Come with me.” Tanith pressed her boyfriend’s straight razor under Valkyrie’s tunic and against her warm skin. “Unless you want to be harmed.” Tanith was lying for that part; she would never dream about hurting Darquesse. Never. Ever.
