A Birthday Party Around The World

A little post here, just to share the oddness that is my life.

Everyone has birthdays. These birthdays are celebrated. Sometimes there are parties. These things happen. These things are normal.

Some other people have birthdays that are celebrated in their absence, halfway around the world, by people they have never actually met. These things are definitely not normal. But these things happen to me.

My Minions, for your amusement, I provide for you a select few photos taken at the party organised by regular Minion commenter and general online-stalker, Valkyrie V Cain.

Billy-Ray Sanguine (in a lovely checked shirt tied off at the midriff... um...) and a seriously disturbed looking Tanith.

Melancholia, looking AWESOME.

Solomon Wreath, being his/her generally aloof self.

Kitana, kicking the hell out of poor Valkyrie...

... and looking pretty smug about it, too.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you one Nefarian Serpine, he/she of the red right hand...

... and poor China Sorrows, who has no idea what is about to happen.

Argeddion. Looking VERY pleased with himself.

You may be forgiven for wondering who is this long-haired person who is trying to woo Valkyrie, but then you will realise- it's Caelan. OBVIOUSLY.

A wonderful time had by all...

... and even I attended! (Sort of.)

And two photos to end things off. One... just because I think her facial expression is hilarious...

And the final photo of Valkyrie V Cain herself. All these photos have made me grin so much I think I've broken my face. Thank you Valkyrie, and thanks to all your (admittedly insane) friends...!

  5. Hi all!

Derek, if you re still on, I have a question.

Did Skulduggery have a taken name before he became a skeleton? Because some people-like Fletcher when they first met- seem to take it as a reference to his skeleton-ness.

  9. Yes, the party.

Derek are you going to come to the party next year?! If you came there would probably be less playing with knives! *cough* *cough* China Sorrows *cough*

    ReplyDelete
  10. China played with knives? What?

Derek, you should go to her party next year! And then go on a tour while you're here....

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yes China was playing with knives. Thank God someone took it away from her... I wasn't going to get anywhere near her with a knife.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Like, a real actual knife that could kill someone?

    Awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  13. OH MY GOSH DEREK THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I ACTUALLY JUST SCREAMED! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!

    YOU ARE SO AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Yes, it was later used for cutting the cake. To bad you can't see Caelan's face better. It was hilariously terrible xD

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh good Val, you're here. I was debating whether to call you but I didn't want to wake you up.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hahahahaha! I had to read over the post about seven times to catch everything it said, but I loved this "...at the party organized by regular Minion commenter and general online-stalker, Valkyrie V Cain".

  20. Hello Derek! That looks awesome! I've got a question to ask! Have you got any tips on how to keep writing? I'm doing National Novel Writing Month, and I'm trying to write a 50,000 word novel, and I wondered if you had any tips! Thank you! You're awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Derek, you DO realise that I will never get over how awesome this is, right? BECAUSE IT'S TOO AWESOME FOR THAT.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Much to AweSOmE. I have been officially classified as insane by thy Golden God.

  25. Hey Derek, did you notice my Necromancer ring? You can see it in some of the pictures!

    ReplyDelete
  26. And Sanguine had a straight razor, but she took the actual blade out because she thought it would a bad idea to have around some people *cough me and Amanda cough*

  28. Oh! Derek! I remembered something! Did you watch any of the videos?

*doesn't know what I'd do if he actually saw the KOTW one*

    ReplyDelete
  29. Please go to the link above and READ and COMMENT. PLEASE:D

    ReplyDelete
  30. this is amazing!!!! i wish all my friends were fans :'(

    ReplyDelete
  31. I wish that I knew anybody outside of my family who will read these books. My friend started yesterday, but she was distracted by Maximum Ride :(

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm forcing everyone I know to read them :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. My sister has read Skulduggery Pleasant and Percy Jackson and Artemis Fowl. And she likes them all. Which means she is Offically Awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  34. My mom started yesterday too, and she really likes it so far!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I am the supply which my sister gets nearly all her books from . . .

    ReplyDelete
  36. I got SP from my brother's shelf, but he hadn't read it

    ReplyDelete
  37. REALLY???

    ARTEMIS FOWL IS AMAZING. :)

I just read the short story in the back of The Time Paradox today. Never read it before coz I never had access to a new edition of the book it before.

    Oh, Short story. Lol. XD

    ReplyDelete
  38. My mum got me Artemis Fowl book one, then I got all the rest from the library. My sister just got all the Artemis Fowl books for her birthday and she actually WANTS to keep them in my room because I take pride in the way my bookshelf looks . . .

    Me: *over the moon*

    ReplyDelete
  39. LEPRecon.

About how Holly got moved from Traffic into Recon.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I have way too many bookshelves to keep them organized. I tried to alphabetize them once and gave up halfway through A.

    ReplyDelete
  41. We were learning about Logos, Ethos, and Pathos in class and we had these little cards with L, E, and P on them.

    ReplyDelete
  42. My bookshelf is running out of space, because of all my Skulduggery books...

    ReplyDelete
  43. I didn't know it existed till today. O_O

I just thought Time Paradox was a longer book than the rest, but no - the short story (Short story) takes up 60 pages at the back. :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. AWESOME.

My favourite books are Skulduggery Pleasant, Artemis Fowl, Gone and Cassandra Clare's books (The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices).

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm getting a TARDIS bookcase built for me for Christmas!

    ReplyDelete
  46. *laughs*
    Awesome!
Insane, quite possibly, but then, most awesome things are.

Val and friends, Well done. Clearly, Derek enjoyed his birthday party. I'd like to think that you did, too. ^-^

    *Slips away into the not-very-darkness*

    ReplyDelete
  47. My favorite books are Skulduggery Pleasant (duh), Howl's Moving Castle, The Enemy books, books by Tamora Pierce, and lots of other books.

    ReplyDelete
  48. That sounds like an AWESOME party. Seriously insane, but awesome.
    *disappears with a poof*

    ReplyDelete
  49. Tomorrow I'd like to spend my entire day preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse.

    ReplyDelete
  50. GONE IS AMAZING. :)

If you look back through all the comments I've ever posted (would NOT recommend doing it, btw) you will see certain periods of time where I won't stop talking about Artemis Fowl (NOW) and periods where I won't stop talking about Gone and periods where I wouldn't stop talking about The Mortal Instruments. If I'm obsessed with something, I do it properly. :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Have you read the other Gone books?

    ReplyDelete
  52. *files those titles away in my mind* Awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Oh, and because I saw the phrase 'favourite books' I'd like to contribute the Chaos Walking series.
They're great books, I promise. Almost had me in tears, which no other book or film has managed before.

(That, Sir Derek is what I call a challenge for you. Can YOU write to the point of near Taia-tears? Try, I dare you.)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Has anyone here read Pandora Hearts?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yup. Gone Hunger Lies Fear Plague. Before my SP books arrived in September (I only read them from the library before that) and my sister's AF books came in October, my Gone books were revered upon my shelf. Now they have RIVALS. Rivals which surpass them because my Gone books have the occasional rip or bend along the bottom . . . 'TWASN'T ME, ',TWAS THE PREVIOUS OWNER.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Oh, and I love the Discworld books!

    ReplyDelete
  57. No, Magpie. :(

Taia: I haven't read Chaos Walking, but they were already on my To Read List before you mentioned them. :)

Just in case you were wondering, I do have an actual To Read List. I should probably take AF6 off it now, because I've just read it . . .

    ReplyDelete
  58. Oh, Awesome Star. They should be moved to the top of your list. *gestures dramatically*

I have a book of Books To Read. It's a large scale list, basically. Unfortunately, when it's book-buying time, I can never find it. :P

*laughs oddly and slinks back into the not-very-darkness*

    ReplyDelete
  59. FOURS ARIANA! :(

I read one Discworld book and couldn't get into it. :(

I've no idea why. I think it was too unrealistic. I know I love fantasy, but I like my books to be how real life would be if the things in the books existed. I love Gone for its realism. It's exactly how real life would be if the FAYZ and the gaiaphage and magic powers existed.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I have to start a To Read list, I usually just pull books off of the library shelf

    ReplyDelete
  61. Who's your favorite character in Gone?

    ReplyDelete
  62. My list doesn't have an order. The things at the top of my list are there because I wrote them before anything else.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Okay I'm starting my To Read list, any ideas?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Hmm. Difficult question. But I have thought about it before. Probably Dekka. Why? Because there isn't anything I especially DON'T like about her. :P

Michael Grant makes his characters realistic, which means because of the circumstances all of them are messed up. Yay.

Caine is cool, though. Sam and Astrid are too messed up. Brianna can be increfibly stupid. Drake is horrible. Looking at his name actually scares me. Brittney is just sad. Sanjeet I like because he's cheerful and hasn't been broken yet. In contrast, Lana has been broken to extremes.

    Gtg. :( Bbl.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I've still not read Gone. But it sits with patience in the Book of Books.

My book/list works in the same way, Star. If something's particularly important, I just circle it a bunch of times, or write 'particularly awesome' next to it. :P

Books to add to your list? The Chaos Walking books, if you didn't add those already... Divergent, and The Hunger Games, if you haven't already read those. :3
Aside from that, well, my Library's temporarily shut down, so I've been too short for reading material, recently. 'Tis a mighty shame, 'tis.:C

    ReplyDelete
  66. Hi guys! *is drooling at Amazon*

    ReplyDelete
  67. I read Divergent for my summer reading group for school, and I read Hunger Games so I could understand what everyone was babbling on about

    ReplyDelete
  68. Lol, Ah. Well, If you enjoyed Divergent, there's the second in the series, Insurgent. :3

    Hi, Kestrel~

    ReplyDelete
  69. Yeah, I read that too. I read A LOT

    ReplyDelete
  70. Hi Sevpie!

Yes! 3 more SP's on the way!

    ReplyDelete
  71. wbd, doctor Who-ing

    ReplyDelete
  72. I'm watching Dr. Who, and it's SO SAD.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I'm starting the Impossible Astronaut.

    Which one are you watching?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Ah, Usually, I'd have the ability to claim that I read a lot, too, but my library's closed and I need what money I have left from buying a bunch of music last month to replace my broken headphones, so none to buy more books...
The last thing I read was the short 'prequel e-book' addition to Chaos Walking. And that was, what, two months ago? :(

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'm just finishing the Doctor's Daughter

    ReplyDelete
  76. I can't imagine not getting any new books for 2 months

    ReplyDelete
  77. Haha! I can now comment from my phone!

    Hi again!

    ReplyDelete
  78. OOOOH! Wait, Jenny just regenerated!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Doctor Who is awesome. Or, I daresay, it was...
I'm still trying to decide whether I like Matt Smith as the Doctor or not.
I don't think he's a bad actor, but, for me, He's not Doctor material.
    I miss my David...

As much as I hate to admit it, I didn't really notice not having anything to read, much. My free time drains away with homework, music, and artwork...
And waiting for WHSmiths' to get KOTW in stock. *glares*

    Bye, Kestrel!

    ReplyDelete
  80. I just order from Amazon UK. And it takes way too long to come

    ReplyDelete
  81. I miss David too but I love Matt Smith. Not as much of course, but close.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I would order from Amazon, but books smell so much nicer if they've been sat in a bookshop for a while, first. Amazon books don't smell as good. :C

Also, my post tends to arrive late. I ordered The End Of The World TWICE, and still waited well over a month for it to arrive. Never got the first order, either...

    ReplyDelete
  83. I haven't gotten to Matt Smith yet

    ReplyDelete
  84. Ah, I love David Tennant.
I can get pretty obsessive over things, and I managed about a year's worth of David Tennant fan-art sketches in a month. :3

David Tennant has the second largest folder of fanart, following the folder of obsessive MCS sketches...

    ReplyDelete
  85. I can't draw. AT ALL. I'm making a picture book in french class, and my main character's head is twice as large as everyone else's

    ReplyDelete
  86. Matt Smith is my favourite. He was the first Doctor I watched, so...

    ReplyDelete
  87. Christopher Eccleston was my first, and I thought David Tennant couldn't be better. I changed my mind pretty quickly

    ReplyDelete
  88. I got out of writing dialogue for my french story by making all my characters mimes and dogs

    ReplyDelete
  89. FORTY ONE BOOKSSSSSSSSSSSS.

    OMFGG, IT'S SO SEXY THOUGH.

    I CAN'T WAIT FOR MY BIRTHDAY, NOW. THE USA EDITIONS OF THE BOOKS ARE SO NICE. OMG, I MIGHT ORDER THE HARDBACKS OMFGG. TOO EXCITED. ASDFGHJKL;

    ReplyDelete
  90. *laughs*
I have friends who say the very same. As it turns out, they can draw rather well.
And I do draw an awful lot. Probably why I don't get enough homework done on time...

The first Doctor I watched was one of the REALLY old ones. I watched most of the Chris Eccleston ones, but David Tennant was when I really got into DW. I go back to watch David Tennant's series now, and I have to clench my jaw and squish my hands to the point of pain to keep from squeeing and flailing my arms about like an idiot. :3

    ReplyDelete
  91. The first episode I watched was one of Matt's Christmas specials.

    ReplyDelete
  92. you haven't seen my drawings. My STICK FIGURES look deformed

    ReplyDelete
  93. The only time I draw is during math...

    ReplyDelete
  94. Hey again!

L., speaking of new books, I have ordered 3. One of 'em will be here by Monday. I love Prime.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Hey Lucy!
    Hi again, Kestrel!

Ah, when I have free time, I'll be drawing, looking for paper, listening to music, Or any given combination of the three. :P

And, for the mention of maths - I have to go.
Forgot I have a maths exam this week.
    -Initialising failure preparation-

    Bye, all! *waves*

    ReplyDelete
  96. Ana! How've you been?

What is it with River shooting the Doctor's hats?

    ReplyDelete
  97. MY TFO ARRIVED TODAY AND I'M GETTING MORE IN 15 DAYS.

I FORGOT WHAT IT'S LIKE TO GET SO EXCITED ABOUT A BOOK. asdfghjkl; I get so excited about new books. Asseabiwvjdadabeankn.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I'm bad at drawing.... This is the only good one I've ever done

    http://bringingskulduggerytothemasses.blogspot.com/2012/11/something-epic.html

    And I drew it yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Wow, Valkyrie V. Cain (can I call you Val or something), that's really good

    ReplyDelete
  100. Val, that is AWESOME! The TARDIS is perfect! (I thought the girls were supposed to be Val and Amy)

    ReplyDelete
  101. Thanks :D

And yeah, you can just call me Val or Val V or Valkyrie or whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Bye, Taia! XD

    ...

...is it bad that I'm currently looking for which book to buy next?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Oh, thanks for reminding me about the TARDIS, I gotta order that TARDIS t-shirt for my friend's birthday

    ReplyDelete
  104. I purposely made Amanda shorter than me, so if she saw it, she would notice. Because she's shorter than me.

And I'm amazed at how I actually made us look decent...

    ReplyDelete
  105. Not at all. The only reason I'm not, is because my parents seriously disapprove of the 'buy multiple copies of everything' thing.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Bye Taia!

And Kes I've been quite excellent, you?

    ReplyDelete
  107. I've been wonderful. I think. Because the person finally found my American Sceptre of the Ancients, and he's bringing it Monday!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Val, I very much enjoyed your drunk Skulduggery picture :D

    ReplyDelete
  109. What drunk Skulduggery picture?

    ReplyDelete
  110. Val, do you have a proof copy of Book 1?

    ReplyDelete
  111. There's a few of them... Just look at the more recent posts.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Me and my brother had a poke war, and then it turned into a swordfight . . . Him with his wooden sword that Dad made for him, me with his plastic lightsabre. Then we both got identical plastic swords that we bought for his Merlin party to make it an equal battle. It was a funny match. I've actually been doing proper fencing for a few weeks, whereas he had tons of energy but was wasting it all on hitting my weapon in a showy but ineffective way . . . Mostly I just stood there and let him bash my sword. :)

    ReplyDelete
  113. I want to do fencing, but I'm kind of too lazy

    ReplyDelete
  114. I want to do fencing, but I don't have time. tOO MUCH DANCE.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I have to go help my sister clean her room. brb

    ReplyDelete
  116. I'm watching Dr. Who, the Doctor says "Books! People never really stop loving books!" and I do my dance of happiness :D

    ReplyDelete
  117. And then he says that this whole world is the library and I want to live there so much

    ReplyDelete
  118. What episode is this?

    ReplyDelete
  119. I don't want to live there anymore. This is getting freaky

    ReplyDelete
  120. Run. Just run.

Count the shadows. For God's sake, count the shadows.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Omg, Val! I was watching that today! Those 2 episodes are my favourite of all time :D

    ReplyDelete
  122. SORRY FOR POOFING!

I had to reorganize my bookcase to find a place for my TFO US edition... ^.^

    ReplyDelete
  123. Ariana! *hugs* Val! *hugs* Luciana! *hugs*
    How are you all?
Sorry I disappeared earlier - Star Wars VI was on :D
And then Merlin is on tonight *yay*

    TFO US?

    ReplyDelete
  124. Ah...The Faceless Ones U.S edition!
    *bangs head against keyboard*
    I'm so stupid...

    ReplyDelete
  125. Who is this River Song person?

    Don't actually tell me. Spoilers.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Omg, Val! I always used to play that! And then it started to crash my computer, but now we have a new one so YAY!

    ReplyDelete
  128. BOO! Hi everyone :)

    ReplyDelete
  129. That looked amazing, Valkyrie :D

    ReplyDelete
  130. Hi Luna!

Wbd. I'll either be reading, or typing up, or writing, or doing homework, or simultaneously doing Sudoku and listening to Disturbed. Or simply walking round my room in circles. Yes, I actually do that. :)

    ReplyDelete
  131. yeah :) I'm 'doing homework'
    heh heh heh....

    ReplyDelete
  132. I'm serious. I might actually do homework. I don't want to do it, but I want to do it NOW, as opposed to later. If that makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I just found my high waisted skirt!

Today is a good day. *nods*

    ReplyDelete
  134. Hey Luna! Have I met you before? Hmm...*hugs* anyway.
I've given up on homework for tonight. I'm too busy mentally crying about River in Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead.
My room isn't big enough to walk round in circles really. I might be about to do 1 or 2 steps up and down, but that's about it, so meh.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Yes, Ieni. I have met you :P
better go, someone is setting off fireworks and my guinea pigs are freaking out...

    ReplyDelete
  136. 'remember, remember the fuith of november'
in 2 days time it's Fireworks night, but some people celebrate early

    ReplyDelete
  137. My room is big enough to walk round in circles only when it's tidy. :)

Which it is atm. Yay. Usually I place my chair in the centre of the room where I can walk around it, coz otherwise it gets in the way. *looks* My room looks enourmas to me atm. Always looks huge when it's tidy. It would be a lot smaller if it wasn't for my loft bed . . . My bookcase and my mini-sofa (put in my room when we moved house coz there's no space for it anywhere else) are under my bed, plus unless I got rid of the chair I wouldn't be able to walk around my room in circles with an ordinary bed.

*remembers* Oh yes I could. I have that big empty space by the door where this wooden chest was until a few days ago. Forgot. Would be pretty small circles, but still.

    ReplyDelete
  138. OMG I AM PSYCHIC
I SAID ON VAL V'S BLOG TO BE PREPARED FOR THIS!! :P

I am still so jealous she has enough friends that are also fans of the books to do this.

In my group there is me, MK and Skye :P
We are the only real fans of the books.
I have 3 SP books on the way to my house!!

OMG MY FRIEND JUST TWEETED SAYING HER MUM IS READING THE SKULDUGGERY PLEASANT BOOK I LENT HER AND IS LOVING IT :'D
OMG really happy right now!! :')

    ReplyDelete
  139. I have read Skulduggery Pleasant. So has my sis. Nobody else I know irl has.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I can hear fireworks going off...
Aww, Guinea Pigs! I used to have 2...but then they died...tragically. Okay, not that tragically, because one killed the other..but meh.
They only other peopl I know who have red it is 2 of my friends, but one is only up to 5 and ther other hasn't got KOTW yet and 2 other people and then Becky from the library, who has actually met Derek.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Anyway,
    HEY EVERYONE!!
    *hugs*
    How're you all??

    ReplyDelete
  142. 'VinyƔya was being openly antagonistic and that was an emotion that could be trusted, unless of course it was a bluff and the commander was a secret fan of his, unless it was a double bluff and she really did feel antagonistic.
That sounds insane, Artemis realized. Even to me.'

  143. I'm good :)
Just back from the Cinema, went to see Skyfall.
