You know Derek, preparing for the Teen Book Festival has made me remember that I have repeatedly begged you to come to the states. But, because you arent able to make it to the festival this year, I am stuck hauling a hairy old hippie that writes about disaffected teanagers screwing around with each other, up on stage. I could be escorting a cool Irish guy with a great sense of humour that writes about funny skeletons and awesome teenagers. But no... I suppose there's always next year. If you wait long enough, I'll be a fellow writer, but dont make me wait that long. Please.
At the beginning of the Festival, there's a panel discussion with all 8 or so authours. Every one needs an escort on and off stage of the opposite gender. I said I would do the job for Mr. Mature Writer, as well as assisting him for the first session, being told that I would need to read one of his books, then warned that they contained adult content. They do, I found. More than I wanted, I also found. Then I looked him up on the internet. He has long, frizzy grey hair with facial hair to match. I dont want to speak ill of him since I havent met him yet, but there's a reason that we have little perceptors in our brain that make split-second judgements about people. Still, I will try hard to keep an open mind, but if he's anything like the main character in his book that I read, I may not be able to stop myself from hitting him with a rain stick. Or drum stick. Or a book.
I will leave with advice, one, if you're a guy, dont grow long hair and expect to be judged as a tax-paying, shower-taking citizen. Two, just dont write about kids messing around. That's nasty. Three, always read up about an authour before volunteering to hang around them for hours. Did I mention that I also get to eat brunch with him?

what happened
People may notice that I've complained the most, which makes me look kinda desperate.
But, these are desperate times, which call for desperate measures.
And if there is anything I am at the moment, it's desperate. I still feel new to this whole thing, but very settled at the same time. Just when I felt like I was finally part of the family, people stop coming because of this comment section change.
It hurts more than anything else. Sure, we complained about being sent back to the first page whenever we posted, but was it really that bad? I never thought it was a problem.
It does my head in. I keep coming in the hopes that it'll have changed, but I remain bitterly disappointed each time I return.
So, in conclusion, I'm not gonna kill anyone. I'm just gonna keep on coming back and saying it again, over and over.
