ANOTHER Competition??

London had Justin Bieber turning on its city's lights. Dublin had Michael Buble. And who did my neighbouring village Donabate have to turn on THEIR Christmas lights last Saturday evening? Why, they just had international superstar author Derek Landy drop by to ROCK. THEIR. WORLD.

And verily, their world was indeed rocked.

I was surrounded at all times by a pack of chattering girls, led by my very good friend Molly, whom I had met at the Twilight premiere a few weeks ago. 'Tis a small world indeed. A small, odd world. Filled with small, odd girls, who wouldn't stop talking.

But that's not why I'm here to talk to you today. Specifically, you people with the funny accents. Even more specifically, you people with the funny accents from Australia and New Zealand. I am here to tell YOU people that, good Lordy, we are running ANOTHER create-a-character competition just for you- because I am a kind and gracious Golden God.

I wasn't planning on running another competition quite so soon, but after talking to my publishers I decided to squeeze one last contest into the final few weeks of 2011, and it's all to do with The End Of The World, which is being published in Ireland and the UK in March as part of World Book Day. Now, I'm sure all of you know just how much I love synchronicity, how much I love releasing books at the same time across the world, so we have arranged for TEOTW to be released in Australia and New Zealand at the same time, and it was decided that it should include a brand new and exclusive short story featuring two characters that you guys will have to come up with.

Readers elsewhere need not worry, of course, as this bonus story will be collected along with all the other short stories 'n' stuff sometime soon (or soonish...). And readers in Ireland and the UK will also get a few pages of bonus material in the back of TEOTW, just for being you...

But I digress.

The competition! The deadline is tight, my Australiminions, my New Zeali...minions.... (I'm not sure that works... ahem...). The deadline is 11.59 PM on New Year's Eve in whatever Time Zone you happen to be in, and not a second after!

Because we have this tight schedule, I'm going to give you a few pointers which might improve your chances of winning- pointers which look a lot like ten rules you MUST OBEY.

RULES

1. Readers from Australia- I need a female character from you lot. Readers from New Zealand- I need a male character from you.

2. There will be ONE winner from each country.

3. Be practical when giving them their powers. I couldn't use some FANTASTIC characters from the other competitions because their powers would either have needed some heavy-duty explanation, or the characters were just TOO DAMN POWERFUL.

Restrict yourselves to a discipline of magic we've already seen in the books. Don't make your character someone who can do both Elemental and Adept magic. Don't make your character half-unicorn. Don't make your character Skulduggery's long lost brother. Who is also half-unicorn. Who can do both Elemental and Adept magic.

Be practical!

4. Post your entries HERE, in the Comments Section, which is now off-limits to everyone else! (The Blog entry accompanying this one will be for the usual chatter.)

5. You can post as many times as you want.

6. Before your entry, write this: "I hereby give my Golden God, Derek Landy, full rights to take this character and adapt it into his brain-explodingly brilliant work."

7. Understand that I might have to tweak your character in order to get the best fit for the story.

8. I can't think of an eighth rule.

9. Oh, oh! I thought of one!

10. Bring me... a shrubbery.

Part Three of my FANFIC for my character Jane Frost

“I believe that you want to, I don’t believe that you can. Anyway what I was going to ask you is why?”

“Why what”

“Why did you capture me?”

“And why should I tell you that?”

“Because if not I am going to freeze your fingers and then hit them with a hammer” Raven gulped as Jane punched her own hand.

“Your bluffing”

“Do you really want to try me?” Raven hesitated before responding:

“Fine I captured you because someone paid me good money to capture you”

“Obviously. You don’t have the initiative nor the intelligence to capture me”

“Hey!”

“Who were you working for!”

“I’m not telling”

“Then this is when the torture begins” Jane bluffed as she stepped towards Raven. Suddenly a window burst behind her and a small metal cylinder bounced in front of her feet. Jane heard the car zoom away as she pushed at the air.

Jane went flying through one of the skylights and the cylinder exploded behind her. Jane hung in mid air above the building before more explosions rung through the air. Debris flew up towards her as Jane began her descent downwards.

Jane fell back through the broken skylight seconds after the last explosion had finished. A wave was there to meet her and put her down on her feet. Surprisingly Raven was still alive but didn’t look like he was going to be alive for long.

His face was burnt and he was lying in a puddle of his own blood. Frost rushed over to him.

“Raven!” She yelled in his face “Raven, your employers have betrayed you, there is no point protecting them!”

“Not, my, employer” said Raven before coughing up some blood “But he will, help you”

“Who!” Frost yelled

“Timothy Dire” Raven coughed up some more blood, closed his eyes and took his last breath.

I'm an Australiminion.

Courtney Gore
Necromancer
Courtney Gore is a Necromancer in an Australian temple. She was born into Necromancy and has never known otherwise.
A black bracelet she was given as a young girl channels her powers. One of the beads is also a miniature cloaking sphere.
She has deadly straight black hair and cold, sharp brown eyes. She is very pale despite the harsh Australian sun. Courtney always wears her Necromancer robes and stays within the temple walls as much as possible.
Courtney is a typical Necromancer and despises of all who do not practice necromancy. Courtney does not engage with people who disrespect necromancy and Death Bringers.

We are the knights who say ni, NI. Bring me a shrubbery. A nice one not too expensive.
I have been to see Rodger the shrubbier and I have brought you a shrubbery.

Part four of my FANFIC for my character Jane Frost

Jane Frost sat on a broken piece of debris when Skullduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain arrived. They brought Ghastly Bespoke and all three rushed into the ruined building.

“Hello!” said Skulduggery brightly “Pleased to meet you, though you probably have heard about all my exploits but I do not no a thing about you other than your name and may I say that the owners of this place need to work on there decorating skills”

“Don’t mind him” Valkyrie remarked “His brain needs adjusting”

“No it doesn’t!” Skulduggery remarked “I’m remarkably clever, witty and humble. My brain is at the peak of perfection”

“Whatever” Ghastly said “What happened here?”

“A man named Raven Night kidnapped me, I broke free and started interrogating him. Then someone threw a grenade through the window. I flew up through the skylight and the building exploded, probably ignited a gas pipe or there was explosives hidden in the building”

“Did he give any leads?” Skulduggery asked

“In fact he did. He mentioned a man named Timothy Dire”

“What!” said Skulduggery and he looked directly at her “Timothy Dire? We need to get going then, quick”

“Why? asked Valkyrie

“Timothy is a recently released criminal. He was a spy for malevolent during the war and was given a lengthy sentence. The weird thing is he didn’t age when he was in prison, he still looks like a 22 year old.”

“Whats his power?”

“Adept. He’s like a chameleon. He can blend into the environment around him”

“Then why do we need to hurry?”

“Because the sanctuary has been keeping a tab on him and he has a flight to America today”

Why are we standing here looking good” Frost said “Lets go!”

30 minutes later four people walked into the airport though none of them had tickets.

“Dire’s flight is at 1:00” said skulduggery “Right now it is 12:00 so we better hurry” They hurried past baggage drop off and went straight towards customs. A line of metal detectors stood in front of them but with a flick of his wrist skulduggery made them all fall over.

Security guards were running in circles but in the confusion two men and two women slipped through security.

Skulduggery checked his watch before frowning. He had his facade on.

“Time moves a lot faster when you have to stop an evil man” he said “We need to go much quicker, ghastly check the times for the flights”

“Already done, Dire’s at gate 16 I’m guessing because thats the next flight to america”

“then lets go” Skulduggery broke into a run with Ghastly and Valkyrie close behind him. Jane stood there for a moment before running after them.

After navigating there way through the duty free shops they came to the gates.

“There he is” skulduggery murmured as he looked through a queue leading towards a gate. A man, as tall as skulduggery stood there. There was nothing, to impressive about the man. Blonde hair, thin lips and he wore a jacket and jeans. What made him stand up was his purple eyes.

Skulduggery hurried over when two security guards stood in front of him.

“Excuse me sir” one of them said “Back down in customs someone spotted a man of your description hurry through customs with out being checked. Would you mind stepping aside”

Jakespeare said...

This is part 5 of my FANFIC for my character Jane Frost
“I would mind” skulduggery replied “good day to you by the way” Skulduggery started walking away and one of the officers took out a gun.

“Please sir step aside” the man grabbed onto skulduggery’s arm and Valkyrie leapt forward

“Don’t take my daddy away!” she wailed and threw herself at the police officer. The police man took a step backwards and skulduggery punched him in the back of the head. The other officer looked confused and aimed the gun but Frost grabbed the gun and froze it along with the mans hand. The man was dazed but became even more dazed when ghastly punched him in the face.

Skulduggery walked up to them with Dire’s hand pressed behind his back.

“Lets go somewhere a little more quiet” said skulduggery and he looped his arm around Timothy. With his free hand he pushed at the air and flew straight up and forward and flew straight through a window onto the tarmac. People looked straight at the window as Ghastly, Frost and Valkyrie backed away slowly.

Skulduggery landed on the tarmac heavily with Timothy Dire underneath him. He grabbed Dire by the throat with one hand and pushed at the air again and landed on the roof. Dire tried to move out of skulduggery’s grip but skulduggery shoved him back down onto the hard metal.

“I’ve never liked you” skulduggery said coldly and all though he did not have eyes Timothy could tell he was looking straight at him. “You worked for me, remember. One day I sent you to find information on Malevolent. You never came back.”

“I’ve missed your rants skullduggery but where exactly is this leading to?” Dire said like he was bored. Skulduggery grabbed his jacket and threw him across the roof and before Dire could move again Skulduggery was already pressing him back down.

“Turns out you pathetic excuse for a human being” skulduggery said with coldness he had never thought he had still had inside him “You had palled up with Malevolent. Serpine’s bunch, you were now working for one of the evilest men that have ever lived.”

“Well Vengeous had wanted me to do some sort of test but for Serpine all I had to do were some little jobs”

“Can I tell you a story Timothy?”

“I’m guessing thats a rhetorical question but in the case that it’s not I’m going to say, no.”

“Yet I am going to anyway. Recently I found out that China Sorrows had taken my wife to Serpine and that made me start thinking. I was one of the leaders for the war, how would they know where I lived? I started talking to a few people and they told me that Serpine had sent a Spy, his best Spy. You”

“Well I wouldn’t call myself his best spy, I was pretty good but...”

“You a responsible for the death of my wife and child”

“Theres a particular saying I love. Forgive and forget”

“Now you will pay for your actions” Skulduggery drew his gun as Valkyrie, Jane and Ghastly landed on the roof next to him.

“Skulduggery don’t do it!” shouted Valkyrie but skulduggery didn’t look at her

“Valkyrie. You are one of the most important people of my life but before that I had a family. Because of this Man I do not have that family anymore”

“Please skulduggery”

“Yes skulduggery” Dire said “Listen to her”

“Shut up!” shouted Valkyrie

“A man” Jane said speaking to Dire “told us that you would have answers. This man is now dead, his name was Raven Night.”

“Oh yes. Never liked him but I might have the information you need if your friend takes the gun away.” All eyes fell on skulduggery and sighing he put the gun into his pocket. “Now that that matter is done, bye!” said Dire smiling and he vanished into the metal. Suddenly Frost was taken off her feet and Ghastly short after.

Skulduggery drew his gun as frost pushed towards apparent blank space. Tiny flakes of ice appeared and clung to the almost invisible Dire. Skulduggery shot but the man disappeared and skulduggery fell.

Dire appeared this time with skulduggery’s gun in his hands.

“Now” He said “Who wants to die first?”

Lykan Skylar Aqos
(Lie-can ski-lar agk-ose)
Age: 18
He's, to coin harry potter a sort of Animagus.
We'll give you an idea shall we.

Lykan pressed his spine against the bricks and frowned "why is this room completely.... empty,'Me'?"
Me(Skulduggery)Looks at him sadly
"Because this is an ambush"
"Right,Do i get a weapon?"
"Yes"
There is a short silence
"Well,What weapon do i get?"
"Well it was my understanding that you could evolve within 14 and a half seconds, wouldn't you consider that a weapon? I would"
"Yes,but i still need a backup weapon "
Skulduggery looks around, well, really he swivels his skull side to side
"Ah,here we are" He picks up a small jagged rock
"I'm sure a stab to the jugular with this would be quite effective" he explains
Lykan looks quizzical,"What about the wards, and magical mumbo jumbo?"
Skulduggery's jaw twitches
"Well,we just have to assume we're talking about non-magic users"
Lykan glances at him,"But,We're not..."
Skulduggery ignore him "So how exactly do your powers work?" he pauses
"Is it a case of snap your fingers and your a duck?"
"Or, in the heat of battle you gain the strength of a lion?" "Or maybe, you flap a stick around and you morph into a toucan.."
Lykan sighs,"Well,What do you want? Should i be good at fighting?,swimming?"
Skulduggery taps his skull
"You should be huge and strong"
"But i already...
"No,You're not"
"OK,Remember this is evolution, the adaptation of DNA not imaginary magic"
"But it is magic," Skulduggery adds,"Just the real kind"
Slowly Lykan's form blurred and for once the omnipresent noise that always seemed to hang around was gone.
When he refocused is legs were bulging, with a faint gray tinge,he was tall and camoflagued and his arms and hands were immense, thickly armoured and had huge black talons stretching out from every digit.
"Big and strong now" He rumbled
Skulduggery shrugged
"You know, you sound exactly how i'd imagine a male rhinoceros would sound!"
Skulduggery grinned "Isn't that amusing?"

And thats all i could be bothered writning

Aroung his neck hangs a gold fobwatch which is decorated again with hands. Titus has no hands instead the stumps where his hands should be are capped with silver. His eyes are dark blue and he has shaved his head bald his skin is wrinkled like tissue paper and his ears are pierced with what appears to be a single finger nail.
Ability: Titus's ability is a unique form of adept magic which spawned from his need to hold onto objects of desire. Titus can focus his mind and energy to create arms that rise from the ground and his body to grab foes and attack them. The arms are known as Grips and they are pale white with pale white hands.
Two rules discern what Titus can do with his Grips.
1. Titus can summon any amount of Grips he desires as long as his strength holds.
2. They cannot spawn on others.

G'day, Derek, I'm an Australian. So you want me to tell you that I give you, Derek Landy, the 'Golden God' or something, full rights to take this character and adapt it into your 'brain explodingly brilliant work'? Dude, I really like your work, and feel free to do whatever with Ava. But, honestly? No. Not in that way, at least.

La Given Name: Ava White

La Taken Name: Warrigal (Aboriginal word for ‘dog’, or ‘wild’)

La Background: at 67 years of age, Ava spent her youth ridding the Australian outback of rogue mythological creatures, most notably Bunyips, earning her a reputation in the Aussie magical community as a rugged hunter and crack shot. The rise of the RASCMC (Royal Australian Society for the Conservation of Mythological Creatures) forced her into the career of international bounty hunter and assassin, not being good at anything else other than hard drinking and bad Australian cooking (aka burning sausages).

La Personality: a sort of modern bushranger, Warrigal much prefers the company of the wilderness (particularly that of her homeland) to that of other people. Solitary, focused and a little bit crazy, she’s known for her strong accent, disinterested outlook, strong sense of fair play and tenacious, patient approach to her work. She loves the sun, the beach, her vintage, high-calibre hunting rifle and tanned male surfers; her pet hates are smartasses, snow and warm beer.

La Powers: Warrigal has the ability to remotely interfere with the senses of any living creature, and within a kilometre, can briefly induce anything from blurred vision and fuzzy hearing to complete disorientation in anything she can directly see. She uses this ability to slow down or immobilize a target before shooting it long-distance. She has been fined, even arrested, on dozens of occasions for misusing her abilities, and unwittingly causes headaches or migraines in those who sit too close to her for more than about ten minutes.

Like I said, use at your discretion, Derek, if you feel so inclined. Thanks for the competition!

The brother of Xanthe Grey

Xanthe Grey said...

Oh, and one last thing: appearance.

Warrigal has lanky brown hair cut just past the shoulders and worn in a ponytail, a somewhat ordinary face, and enjoys wearing greenish, tinted glasses. Her build is rugged and athletic first and feminine second, and she usually wears a black singlet, leather vest with bare arms, knee-length khaki shorts and bushwalking boots. Thanks!

I hereby give my golden god Derek Landy full rights to take this character and adapt into his brain-explodingly brilliant work.

Name: Kimbra Selkie

Kimbra Selkie has blonde/brown hair, blue eyes and is the ultimate Beach/adrenalin junkie. She wears shorts and sleeved t shirts when she's going on her fast things or roller coasters or rides but wears dresses and swimmers when she's in the water. She always smells like the sea but sweeter and is tall.

Kimbra Selkie is an elemental and works for her self. She has been on all the fast rides and all the beaches (she loves breathing under the water, a little trick she taught herself.) Kimbra met Fletcher at a theme park after he appeared in front of her in a line for dreamworld. She said,
"look, sir, I'm afraid you've jumped in front of the run girl. So if I were you I'd get behind me." when he turned around she pushed in front him and she watched him teleport back in front. She answered "ugh, a teleporter you know what? Just come in with meir we're gonna have this debate." that's how they met and know they just always go on rides together. She annoys him by saying his accent is stupid.

She likes teasing people and insulting them but punches people when they insult her. Kimbra is 19 years old and is besides everything a sensible girl.

I hereby give my golden god Derek Landy full rights to take this character and adapt it into his brain-explodingly brilliant work.

Name: Geneva Strange

Geneva strange has straight black hair and strangely green eyes. She wears big sunglasses so no one can see just how green her eyes are. She wears a denim skirt, a purple singlet and a red checkered over t shirt. She wears the new style of converses in denim, red or white.

Geneva Strange is able to levitate things with her mind and move things just by pointing at them. She is a bit cheeky with her powers but meets Fletcher, Valykrie Cain and Skulduggery Pleasant when she's at the sanctuary she goes along for the ride. She helps piece together the case and find the murderer and when she thinks it's all done she offered a job at the sanctuary as a detective.

Shes a bit short tempered but very kind.

Mate, that was so not true!
Dear Derek LANDY!!!
Before i say anything else i want you to know that this was a last minute thing this. So i know it definitely won’t get in but hey, as a rookie writer i enjoyed making Tas for fun!
Character given name: Anna walker
Character taken name: Tasmin Spring
Description: She has dark blue eyes, blonde hair tied back in a pony tail and a pale complexion. Her personality is mocking and sneaky, with a “oh yeah? Bring it on buddy.” Way about her. She is stubborn and loves getting things right that others couldn’t or gave up on.
Abilities- Powers: she uses her wits to get out of many sticky situations; so much that she thinks she is virtually unstoppable. Her power is that she can amplify her voice, to create massive sonic shockwaves powerful enough to blast people off their feet, and to deafen her enemies for short times.
Background: she used to be a singer, from the age of thirteen. She got a few awards for singing, because mysteriously her voice was always very easy to hear! She discovered her power while arguing with an unpleasant singing instructor, who complained that her voice was too high. She tried to get into the Opera House, and when she caused a huge explosion that injured thirteen people, the Australian sanctuary covered it up as a gas leak ignited by a cigarette and in return, got her to work for them.

Description: a rounded (but NOT fat) 5 foot 7 with frizzy red hair cut to her shoulders and grey eyes. Tends to wear hats and Caps in a futile attempt to keep her hair down and a large coat, multicoloured scarf and multiple jumpers if there’s even the slightest chance that the temperature could drop to less than 20degrees celsius. She’s never without her pair of gumboots, which assist her in avoiding electrocuting unsuspecting passers-by.
Because of her ‘static’ personality (and person) she has difficulty keeping friends and remaining passionate about anything for more than about five minutes. Her pet hates are being interrupted mid-rant and the misuse of terminology or jargon. She once tried to get a job at an electronics store but was fired for accidently frying half of the stores products, an elderly customer’s pacemaker (the man was hospitalised for a month) and her boss’s prize winning Persian cat, Saladin.
She’s currently set out on a world-wide quest to find a mobile phone/laptop/national power grid sturdy enough to handle the amount of static she gives off.

If you manage to weave my little masterpiece of a character (snarky hat) into one of Skulduggery’s epic adventures I will post you a cookie. Or maybe even a shrub. We’ll see.

I'm from Australia so I got stuck with the chick.. So we will cut to the chase:

Amber Pierce
She is an Elemental
Her power is being an Elemental transmutant (Elemental transmutation). She can alter the elements scientifically allowing her to form new elements or enhanced elements. This can be sub zero flames? or the ability to form water and air together with the wave of her hand. This way here, fog, clouds or thunder storms can happen. She is feared by elementals as she understands it extremely well. She also knows how to use the earth element as an offense, instead of defense. She is a scientist that doesn't know how to fly (like skulduggery does) but she does know how to use fire like the flame thrower, using Air to push the fire at a constant speed (or something like that).

She may be good, or bad. She may be strong, powerful or weak. I would love to have my character in the book, even if most of it is changed.

Name: Valeria Preen
Age: At least as old as China and Skulduggery.
Valeria is an informant like China, she deals in secrets and information but does not retain a permanent basis like her. She didn't choose explicit sides in the war and preferred to help those who benefited her the most. She is extremely superficial and narcissistic. Despite this, she still survived very dangerous shaves and knows how to worm herself out of a tricky situation. She stands about 1 metre and 70 centimetres tall and has long sleek black hair. She has gorgeous latino skin and acts with a sassy vibe to her, expect a crap load of z-formation finger movements and "oh, hell noes". She dresses beautifully, adorned in diamonds and pearls and counts her passions as (in descending order);
3. Stealing diamonds
2. Flirting
1. Looking at herself.
She often flirts with men who, knowing her reputation, are intimidated by her. She uses her looks to manipulate others. Valeria has a keen wit and once provoked, will relentlessly tear someone down. She is an adept with the ability to tamper with a person's thoughts and emotions. The power is subjective and subtle. It works more powerfully on mortals but mages have a higher resistance. It requires Valeria to maintain eye contact or physical proximity to the victim. Despite her looks, Valeria is a deadly weapon. She is naturally at a physical disadvantage, her power being purely mental rather than physically offensive. To compensate for this, she fights in a dirty and underhanded way. She never has less than 20 weapons on her person at any one time. She even has daggers hidden in her hair. Valeria is deceptive and untrusting, always working to gain leverage over other people.

Roguish entrepreneur, Purveyor of excitement, adventurer at heart. Raimi Flynn is all of these, the true meaning of "free spirited". At ninety years of age and possessing the heart of a twenty five year old woman, Raimi's go in life is to see it all and do it all, without restraint or forethought. Bungee jumping? Yep. Joining the Defence Force? Sure! Master the drums? Already done! If it is physically possible and exciting, she will do it.

As a sorcerer, Raimi incorpprates her Adept powers into her adventures - she possesses heightened senses, such as smell, hearing, sight, taste, etc. This allows for good effects such as increased reaction time, yet the heightened senses come with heightened sensitivities. Like noise and bright light.

Raimi styles herself as a young woman - bracelets, metal-filled ears and a
lisenced branded shirt. Always. With dark hair and a short stature, she fits in with the crowd.

I, Derek Zomer, the great author-to-be, of Australia, hereby give my cosent for the Golden God, Derek Landy, to have full rights to take the character(s) offered up in this post and adapt it into his brain-explodingly brilliant work.

Unfortunately, the shrubbery of which I offer is contained in a small farm area within the vacinity of NSW, Australia, and I was unable to fit such a magnificient shrubbery (and I promise you, it's fit for a god of such stature) into the post office, and for attempting such, I have since been banned.

The characters I wish to offer up to the great god are all characters derived from old ideas from my own stories, that I quickly assessed as unfit for a main character's abilities, and as such, should all thereon meet the conditions offered of playing a minor character.

Character Number 1:
Traum Jones
A 16 year old Albino, this young girl's first-name is German for the word 'Dreams', a distanct foreshadowing for her explicit ability.
Now, if this hint wasn't great enough for you, her ability is a bit of a play on the old ability of Freddy Krueger (A possible reference which may be made in the development of this character). Now, please don't take this to mean too much, as you have requested abilities which are simple to explain, and as such, I suspect characters who meet up to such, so I shall keep it simple.

Her ACTUAL ability is simply to exist within the realms of other's dreams, allowing her, and thereon, the reader's, through her eyes, or perhaps even conversing with fellow characters in the story, to catch glimpses of the worlds inside of each character's mind, the subconcious thoughts, entities, fears and etc. all of which come out within a person's subconcious. Now, despite this ability, she does not exceed the capacity to merely EXIST within these dreams, and as such, would litterally appear as a normal girl, with normal abilities, incapable of performing anything beyond what the person dreaming the dream had already percieved her to be capable of. Now, this sounds complex. The simple version is simply "She inserts herself into the dreams of others".

Now, as for backstory, and plausible character relation, I litterally pictured this girl being someone who is, quite frankly, off the streets. I point out now that she is ACTUALLY 16 years old, not just physically 16. She has no previous awareness of magic, and even her own form of magic is not something she can control, but merely an average occurence for her (a natural-born talent, as you would call it). Her Father is of course German, and her mother English. I shall not go into her past, although, one is plenty easy to come up with should such become relevant.

Unfortunately, as a result of length, the rest of this character's description shall be posted in the following comment. Please assure you do read such, as if you do not, you will be missing out on SO MUCH.

Derek Zomer said...

(Continued on from the previous comment by Derek Zomer, which contained therein the Shrubery offery, and all other necessary, legal, thingabobbies).

In fact, the relation to the characters with which she would have, would simply be, being a friend of the reflections' from school, and thereon, Valkyrie's. She is completely incapable of choosing whose dreams she immerses herself in, and as such, has no real use for Valkyrie and the gang as of the moment, allowing her to merely be tossed aside as a minor character if you so wish, but also allowing her the chance to play at least the position of a KEY character when it comes to light the miracle of her awareness of Darquesse (knowledge granted to her purely from having seen a dream of Valkyrie's). However, unlike any of the characters so far who have grown to know of Darquesse, she purely believes it to be a dream, fictional, as she does all forms of magic, and merely passes her own ability off as pure chance. Having said that, people's subconcious meeting with her often leads for them to easily grow to trust her. Now, this also allows her character to play the role of a potential, new psychic, only one with much more unique, and restrictive powers. For example, instead of seeing the future, she would merely see "The Desired Future" or the "Dreaded Future" people see in their own dreams, meaning she has the inability to actually predict the future, only the ability to understand the aims of others. Now, again, despite it sounded highly complex, this ability is still quite simply "She sees dreams" with extra restrictions. The ability is also far from offensive, although, I imagine, should you ever be in dire need of making her an offensive character, you could merely hone her ability and litterally turn her into a 'good' Freddy Krueger, giving her the inability to physically affect villains. Maybe give them a small fright at best.

The reason this character should at least appeal to you is because of her blatant lack of power, and although her ability is not exactly original, it is still quite rare within the realm of modern day literature. Additionally, the fact she is from Valkyrie's school means that we may actually get to see more in that aspect, which, no offense, has seemed to be running on a loose train into disaster-ville (not in your writing, but litterally, the day Valkyrie actually tries to spend a SINGLE NORMAL day at school, she's doomed. DOOMED I TELL YOU). Additionally, I pictured her being introduced as a result of a sleep-over, which would further illustrate the Reflection's growing independance from Val.

I shall leave Traum here. In fact, I shall big this comment an ending as of this moment, for fear of it growing vastly too long.

On a side-note, however, Derek Landy, the Author who shares my name, and is currently living out my dream proffession since I was 7 years old. I sincerely respect you. I shall clarify. I came into this comment planning to challenge you, oh captain, my captain. However, I have found that I respect you, who shares my name, too much, and I will simply bid you, you're an amazing author, with our combined Derek powers, help me take over the world. Yes, you heard me. Take over the WORLD. Because all Dereks are magically imbued with golden, magical powers that make others bow before us.

Back on track, Derek Landy, were you aware that our name was derived from either the Dutch word, Diederik, or else, the oldern English word, Dederik, both of which are derivations of the Germanic word, Theodoric, which litterally translates to "Ruler of the people." That is right, Derek, our names litterally mean we rule the masses. It's no wonder your stories have taken the world by storm. All these poor minions. It must be like having their brains eaten by Alien overlords, and being turned into mindless, alien-human zombie... things. That read.

Name: Daisy Slae

Daisy Slae has messy blonde hair and big pale brown pleading eyes. She is death white and is pale on the lips. She wears a posh white dress from the 1900's, no shoes and a Lacey white parasol. Her sharp teeth are pure white (sharp teeth is sort of a give away. Vampire!)

Daisy Slae was only 11years old when she was turned into a Vampire by someone Ireland. She is different from other Vampires as she doesn't turn every night. The night she was bitten was a full moon therefore she only changes on a full moon. The vampire that bit her said sorry, again and again and again but he wasn't really. He said his name Calean. she wasn't taken in by vampire societies so she found her way to Australia. She doesn't drink blood, or at least she tries not to. Daisy is suggested by clean to help on a case I sort of imagined it go a bit like this.

"Daisy Slae, Daisy, where are you?" Calean called. What kind of a name is Daisy Slae? Thought Valkyrie. There was a rustle from around the corner and a whimpering noise as Calean brought out something by the scruff of the neck. A girl barley more then 11 wearing 1900's white dress. She was whimpering at Calean.
"put her down." yelled Valkyrie instantly thinking of Alice back in Ireland. He dropped her and she fell On her side. Val rushed over to her and said.
"whats your name." when she opened mouth Valkyrie new that it was Calean's fault.
"I'm Daisy Slae."

Daisy is an Australian and live in a back street and helps Valkyrie and
skulduggery by giving them things about the killer.

Delia Hart

Her power lies in her ability to interfere with the nervous system of the human body. Using her hands and only her hands, with skin to skin contact she can change the messages sent by the nervous system to the brain and so effectively control the body. The only defence against this power is to prevent skin to skin contact in the first place. Delia is a good hand to hand fighter and always carries a small dagger on her person.

Appearance:
Delia has cropped red hair, brown eyes, pale skin and freckles. She looks to be about 17 but is in her 50s. She has a petite figure and usually wears long black pants, boots and a black tank top.
Personality:
Delia is a very smart girl with a thirst for learning. She is a logical thinker and has a soft spot for cats. Delia is a very determined person. She is terrified of water,a fact which she tries very hard to hide.

History:

As a five year old, Delia unknowing used her powers on her unsuspecting parents, permanently damaging their nervous systems and stripping them of their cognitive thinking. They died soon after. Delia roamed the streets for the next year until taken in by an elderly sorceror-Caleb Lune. Lune trained her and became a father-figure to her. When she was 15, Lune was murdered, and for the next 8 years, Delia's life was devoted to tracking down Lune's killers. She then made her living by hiring herself out as a mercenery to those who had the money or occasionally without charge to those in a situation she found interesting.

Name: Minna Lost

Minna Lost has long curly black hair and Carribbean Sea blue eyes. She has two favorite cardigans, her turquoise one and her red one with the white love hearts. Minna sews her own dresses in mostly greeny blue materials but sometimes black. If she's not wearing that she's wearing jeans and casual t shirts.

Minna, although kind, is quite the little schemer. Even when she was little she though up plans to help the sanctuary improve it's security system (she thought and created the way to get into the Australian sanctuary.) she is extremely smart and sometimes helps with sanctuary cases. She works all around the place and sometimes even sleeps at the work place (she installed a secret place from the ceiling so a hammock would fall down from the ceiling, she would then press a button and it would lift her halfway up so she'd hang high above the ground.) Minna Lost gave herself a misnomer cause she never gets lost. She is an adept that works with symbols. She is extremely graceful and can fall of walls and la d gracefully on two feat.

Minna is 20 years old and looks 20 years old as her age stopping has just kicked in. She meets Fletcher and it went a bit like this,

Fletcher watched the girl walk down the stairs and he followed. He followed for a bit longer u til she turned around and said.
"look, i have things to do and people to see so say your name and be on." he had never been confronted like this he had urge to teleport but didn't.
"Fletcher Renn," she walked along and he walked beside her.
"I'm Minna Lost, but it's a misnomer because I never get lost."
"really, you're starting to annoy..." he cut her off.
"you look twenty but how old are you really, I mean on of the girls I liked who looked twenty one was actually like 80." she turned to him annoyed
"I'm twenty years old, for real not a year older."
He frowned and realized his mistake.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean it like that." she got his phone his front pocket and scribbled something down on a piece of paper.
"look, teleporter boy, Fletcher who ever you are. I have you number," she ripped off a piece of the paper.
"you have mine. But don't call me, I'll call you.

so i'm australian and by ur suggestion i should make a female character so she's an adept with the extrordinary power of being made of metal. due to an excesive amount of iron in her body/blood she can asymilate that into say her left hand as too i dont know punch someone so hard their nostrils come out their spinal colum. due to this her skin has an odd blue colouring. she is a english sanctuary agent who works with frightning (probably spelt wrong) who bings her in to fill gap in the sanctuary from explosion in dark days. she has brown hair and is suprisingly thin for her power. about 500 years old and fought on mainly the welsh front in the war only crossing the dead men once in england while fightng with bliss against baron vengeous. due to power certain medication is needed every 12 hours or so as you can guess not helpful while fighting.

well thats it hope u pick mine but grovelings not my thing so dont expect beging.

"I hereby give my Golden God, Derek Landy, full rights to take this character and adapt it into his brain-explodingly brilliant work." blah, blah, blah. Smug face.

From Aotearoa (aka New Zealand)

Tane Aiavao. (Pronounced Tah-neh Eye-a-voh)

Since this is an entry from New Zealand, why not chuck some ethnicity in there? This dude's Maori. For those of you who don't know, Maori's are no longer people who live in mudhuts and hunt giant birds to extinction. They are now the people who you call 'mate' or 'bro' without having met them, love fishnchups, where hoodies and gumboots and are pretty chuft with anything.
As per usual, Tane is dark skinned, huge brown eyes (so they can do the eye-popping pukana at the end of rugby hakas to scare the crap out of you) and has short tousled dark brown hair. He can also have tattoos, maybe even a Maori pattern on half his face. Around mid twenties. Oh, and huge grin.
Like I said, he loves fishnchups (how kiwis pronounce it) and yes that means he's 'out of shape' (fat). Some lingo: Thanks = Chur, Random/citizen = some weird lookin fulla, fish and chips = fishnchups, Rest = crash, hello = kia ora, excuse me = oi, stranger = mate, friends = bro.

How the hell did he get mixed up in the story? Won tickets to Ireland from one of those instant ice-cream wrapper prizes he bought for '2 bucks. Chur.' Loves ice-creams. (Hence, the loving food.)

He's pretty laid back, takes things as they come, never has a plan (eg, never knows what he's doing until he's doing it) and pretty happy with everything. Probably a bit of a coward, but hilarious without knowing it. Interested in girls, food and explosions (especially those on video games).

If one of the rules is no adding new powers, then I would reckon he is an Elemental. Can always do with more of those. Little bit of a rookie with the magic, but is a brilliantly quick learner. Does little things which he thinks is coincidence, but knows that he's not normal. He is more powerful than he realises.
Character trait that completes him, is that he always has to have imput into conversations even if it doesn't make sense. Like, 'but don't forget the spots. I tell ya, bro, it's always the spots.' Can get distracted easily, but everyone warms up to him. Insults idiots, for instance 'that man is as eggheaded as a rock.'

Hasn't come up with a taken name, I can imagine when he invents one, it will be simple. Like Richard James. And everyone calls him Richie. Just because he likes the sound of it. He likes the simple things in life. It's how he rolls. Thinks outrageous names are weird. Especially if your mum were to call you Ignatious Thunderblade or something crazy like that.

Anyway that's from a kiwi. (Awkward since I'm actually australian.)
Ha so anyway, I thought I'd jump back in, since you sir, Mr Derek Landy, didn't manage to keep your word to get back to me. Indeed it is me again, the one who wrote you that letter from the NZ tour.

Ah well. Everyone dreams, right? Perhaps, some will get a second chance?

She ran through the wood almost tumbling on the creeping roots in front of her. She normally ran to the place when some idea popped in her head, she didn’t prepare, didn’t wait for something that made more sense to her. She just ran. She broke her leap over the river with a crouch where she flicked her auburn hair out of her eyes. She continued turning her run into a sprint and then suddenly stopped. She stood there staring at what was there. “Oh no”. The corpse stood there, still no movement. It was like he died a dozen different ways again and again and again. The symbols that were carved in his neck were of his own and you could see he was tortured with both magic and weapons.
And then she broke her stare and grinned.

Name- Lara Nightshade

Lara is an Adept who is fifteen, nearly sixteen, has no accent and has the power to make other people hallucinate. She can only pull this off when concentrating however, so she is unable to perform her much needed ability in a fight. She also uses her ability to poke fun in a conversation and make people jump unexpectedly at nothing but fragments of their information. When she makes contact with the select person, her power is stronger so she can just think it without having to concentrate as much as she would normally have to.

When in fights, Lara is quite proficient with martial arts techniques, rivalling The Skeleton Detective and Valkyrie Cain.

Appearance- Lara has long black and white hair, slightly resembling the straightforward pattern of a hedgehog. Her smile often looks reckless even when she's not in the mood. It often sets her allies on the alert for any mischief. She is quite pretty.
Despite the many dangers Lara gets into, she dresses casually, wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans and black knee-high boots. Lara is never seen without her fingerless gloves. She occasionally wears a zip-up jacket over the top with the arms rolled up. She never zips it up.

Behaviour- Lara is generally kind, loyal and straightforward, however she is sometimes very reckless and that almost always gets her into trouble. Lara never takes anything too seriously. Her sharp-witted irony, sarcasm and humour make her usually the general person who you'd scold in the middle of a boring lecture. :)

Lara is quite tall. (about 165cm in total height)

Lara's parents are a much of a mystery to her- Her mother mysteriously died four years after she was born and her father disappeared soon after. Lara has been trying to find her father ever since she had been told what happened, and remains vigilant she'll find him soon. (You can tweak this as much as you want, Derek, be my guest. ;))

Ok, that should be everything. Thanks for giving us all this opportunity. I'm fourteen years currently and I hope to be a FAB-U-LOUS writer when I grow up.
I reckon this is a great starting point! :D

She searches for the person (whose soul shines white in colour) and attaches her soul to theirs and soon overtaking theirs. She was braught up in the magical world and during the war worked for the sanctuary possessing generals and even Mevolent for information. Since then she possesses people to do things which benefit other people and the ones who profit from it pay her large sums of money.

Australia

Name: Naif Aloetta
Class: Adept
Power: able to change center of gravity (like Tanith)
Description: Hair the colour of shadows with writhing tendrils like them. Her grey eyes like sunlight behind dark clouds and hard like concrete. She was beautiful - except for the permanent sneer painted on her lipless slash of a mouth, infamous for their hostility. Noone could tame the wild woman and her passion for blood was her downfall.

Just adding a bit for my character Emalee Belkind

Dreams/Aspirations: There are two things Emalee wishes to acheive. One is to be viewed as a hero, whether it be from saving one person or the world, she would like to have someone look up to her the same way she looks up to her heros. The second is to perfect her Kung-Fu grippin' teddy bear drones

Also Derek, I had purchased a shrubbery and was on my way to the local post office when suddenly I was jumped by a group "Ni" speaking knights. As you would expect I was very suprised by the situation and had little time to react before they made of with the shrubbery, which I had named Gary

just a bit of more info for what she could do in the book

-She is emotionally unstable as much as she is very talented with her powers her powers unleash dark arms of sorrow out of her chest this hurts her so much she blacks out hand but this is only when she is enraged.

PLUS - the dog does not come with her on the adventure but she keeps a teddy bear with a patch on its heart with her which i think expresses some of her emotional stuff there

My characters name is Ariana Obscurum. She is a quiet and dangerous Necromancer in her mid-200's with the appearance of a 21 year old. She, like all other Necromancers is traditionally adorned in black clothing, with a Victorian era twist of frills and lace chokers. She has black hair with two streaks of purple that hang down the side of her face, pale skin, dark eyes and dark red lips. She also has a penchant for combat boots. She has inhabited her dark power into a handle of sorts that can exude darkness into solid matter, such as a sword, whip, dagger etc. She was born in Australia, but has travelled all over the world and spent much time in Japan and later on England before finally settling into the Necromancer Temple in Ireland.

Evelyn Reed
Elemental

Evelyn Reed has travelled the world. Many times. She does not work for the Sanctuary. She carries out her own duties. Her occupation: Hunting Sea Hags. She wants to wipe out their whole existence. But then, she's wanted to wipe out a lot of existences. Like zombies. That didn't work out too well for her companion. But now Evelyn has taken to hunting Sea Hags. She had heard that there was a Sea Hag in a particular lake in Ireland, and she went there in a hurry, only to find that the Sea Hag she was now hunting had been released into the ocean. Oh.

The creator of this character was Eve, the Australiminion with the funny accent.

Name: Naif Aloetta (i love that name)
Appearance: choca skin with long legs and a fairly muscular build. Her eyes are the grey of concrete and her hair is dead straight brown. A wild mess of a fringe springs, overgrown from her forehead and covers eyes that flash red when she uses her power.
Power: Elemental
Background: no training, natural talent discovered when she was 9 years old and burnt the house down. Has a particular love and talent for fire and has at least as much power as Skulduggery in that area. From a religious family, she was disowned because of her 'ungodly abilities spawned from the devil'. She makes her living on the street.

Eire oath
Is a 500 year old elder, who has just reawakened from using the elemental power of earth. She was born in Ireland and because of her parents being notorious travellers she wasn’t in Ireland for very long before travelling. She journeyed to many cities learning many different languages and at the age of 14 a shop keeper in Scotland saw how she would not even touch an object and it would move. He then told her of the magical world and gave her a book. She started reading the book which was full of techniques on using elemental magic and so she started training. By the time she was 16 and living in Ireland with her uncle she was able to push wind, create flames and control water. At the age of 24 she was a fully pledged sanctuary agent. When she was 27 she earned the role of elder. 2 years later she was sent off as one of the most talented elemental magicians to stop the “a chi si alza” blowing up the Vatican and revealing the magical world to the humans. The following battle destroyed half of the old underground city of sotterranea and many hillsides. The bomb was detonated in a star (because of a teleporter who teleported it into a star dew that he could see it, sacrificing himself) and was covered up as the 1572 supernova. After this she suitably seated herself as an elder of the sanctuary. In 1578 the sanctuary was attacked and in the ensuing battle the sanctuary was destroyed. Her and others managed to escape but the opposing forces caught up with the rest and a second battle ensued and finally ended when the opposing forces made their final attack causing her to turn into stone and killing most of their troops in the process. The sanctuary caught and killed all involved. She was hidden in a bunker in Connemara until she woke up. She is tall, red haired with emerald green eyes and fair skin. She is an elemental magician and has a thing for caramel.

Olivine Granite
Elemental

Olivine Granite has lived a long time - if you call it living. When the war began, she turned herself to stone in hope that she would wake up at the end of the war. Instead, she woke up at the end of the WORLD. When she found out that the Faceless Ones had just come through a portal at Aranmore Farm, she turned herself to stone again out of pure instinct. She wasn't frozen for quite so long that time though. When she unfroze, she was immediately possessed by a Remnant. When the Remnant crisis was over, the Remnant left her, and she promised herself that if there was ever another apocolypse, she would leave Ireland, wait and see what happens.

The creator of this character was Eve, the Australiminion with the funny accent.

Name: Marly Right

Power: Necromancy but she is a good necromancer, working for the irish sanctuary to fight back the rising evil. Her object of power is a black glove she wears on her left hand.

Profession: As mentioned before she works for the Irish sanctuary but she is barely known. She is the reinforcements when the sanctuary needs them. She was transferred from the Australian sanctuary.

Age: 70 but looks 22

Connections: She works in the same Sanctuary as Skulduggery and Valkyrie and she looked up to Tanith before she became a remnant.

Clothes: Most Necromancers dress to impress there superiors. Marly dresses for comfort and fashion. She wears black boots with heels that look stylish but allows her to run fast and kick hard. She has obviously her glove on at all time but she also wears a metal band around the edge of the glove to stop it being easily taken away from her.

She had normal black hair that she has cut perfectly, making it go down to her shoulders. This makes it easier to grab and is a weakness but as ghastly bespoke said, fashion is life or death.

She wears black (obviously). A black shirt, black cargo jacket, black trousers. Her skin unlike most necromancers is deeply tanned (from spending lots of time outside in australia) and her eyes are a deep, deep brown.

Traits: She is strong, smart and obviously beautiful. She uses all of those traits to trick enemies, her friends and coworkers. She uses a pistol and a knife (I know those aren't suppose to be in the traits category but I forgot to put them in before).

She is stubborn but open to new ideas. If she's not right she'll admit it but if she is she won't boast. Marly doesn't despise having company she just prefers to be alone.

Despite being over 70 years old she still listens to modern music and does modern things. She owns a mercedes benz and a house in roarhaven + an apartment in australia and dublin. She is moderately wealthy after her divorce with a rich mortal.

Now I have one last thing to say:

I have tried my best, for all my entries and I hope with all my heart that I will win. I think everyone has done really well but I hope from the bottom of my heart I can win with one of the entries I have put in. I have tried my hardest for every single one of my entries and I am nervously anticipating the results. I may not win but I hope I came close and I hope even more that next to the australian winner, can be my name.

Thank you for a great opportunity and happy new year.

Cassidy Reaper
Elemental, Blonde curly/wavy hair, crystal blue eyes and either wears dark green, grey or black.

Met valkyrie at the age of 5 in Ireland Pre-school. Her parents disappeared around then and she had to learn to look after herself in her parents home. Left school a year later and met Skulduggery after saving her life. Skulduggery then looked after her, and, in seeing that she had magical potential, taught her the basics. She met Ghastly and China but someone was after her, so she left to live in Australia at the age of ten. Came back to Ireland after Skulduggery called her for an emergency mission. Is now facing something called 'The Darkness', which turns out to be Cassidy's father. Cassidy's boyfriend, Jack Rapid, comes into the story halfway through. He's an Adept that can run really fast.

Valkyrie and Skulduggery sat in the Bentley that was parked on the side of the road the Coal street.
'Who are we waiting for again' said Valkyrie impatiently.
'I told you, we're waiting for an old friend of mine to show up. She has information on The Darkness'.
And as usual Skulduggery was right. A Blonde haired girl with black boots, trousers and a grey jacket walked towards the Bentley. She looked around the same age as Valkyrie. She knocked on Valkyrie's window, which she wound down.
'Well I see the old girl's still in shape', said the Blonde haired girl.
Valkyrie could not stop starring at her eyes. They were a crystal blue that looked like a perfectly still pool of water. They seemed very familiar to her.
'Glad you noticed', said Skulduggery with a proud voice.
'Ahem', Valkyrie glared at him until he realised.
'Oh yes, Valkyrie, this is Cassidy Reaper, but you may know her as someone else'.
'But I...', Valkyrie said confused
Cassidy chuckled.
And as soon as she heard her laugh and looked into those eyes, she knew who she was.
'TONKA!!!', Valkyrie said in amazement.
She jumped out of the car and gave her a big hug.
'Finally. I was beginning to think that you would recognised me', Cassidy said with a smile. The two began to fuse over each others hair, clothes, recent events.
'I'm sorry girls but we really need to get going. I'm not getting any younger, and believe me, when that happens so many people will be devastated'.
'Of course they will', said the girls in unison, getting back in the car.
Skulduggery started the car, pulled from the curb, and drove through the empty street.
'So, back to business, Cassidy. Anything on The Darkness'.
'I encountered with.. it 2 weeks ago when I went to see a sensitive, lovely lady. But by the time I got to her house, it had been demolished and I found her dead inside', Cassidy said with a sad tone.
'Well then, we'll have to see China, she'll know something.

They arrived outside the building and climbed the stairs until they reached the library door. They walked through the labyrinth of book and found China at the front desk. The biggest smile spread across China's face when she saw Cassidy. One that Valkyrie had never seen before.
'Oh my, you have grow', she in delight, and gave her a big hug in which she returned politely.
'Have you heard anything about The Darkness', said Skulduggery breaking up the little love fest.
China went back to her original, loving gaze and said, 'Yes, but no one knows who or what it is. But there's a little man down the road who's a Sensitive, he'll be able to show you something'.
'Alright lets go. We have work to do', Skulduggery said moving for the door.
'And by the way', China said as they were
leaving. 'He's very stubborn'.
'Don't worry. We'll beat it out of him if we have too', Valkyrie said, and they shut the door behind them.

Rochelle Hardwick 22 years of age
A rather Pessimistic Woman who see's the worst in every person and situation. She strongly believes in the saying an eye for an eye and will often see herself as the one that should carry out the meaning behind it.

She wears a male's tuxedo due to her policy of she can do anything a male can. She also has a pink hair band the holds back her unruly long brown hair as well as a dogs collar she wears around he neck that has her name on the tag. She almost always wears her sunglasses to hide the fact she has one red and one blue eye. She talks with a heavy australian accent as well as using the stereotypical australian slang.

She is an elemental but prefers to use her powers for defensive purposes as in making barriers out of wind and fire. When she is required to go on the offensive she pulls her broadsword out of her hand bag which is quite considerably smaller then the sword.

She has no personal ties to any current characters but has heard of the Darquesse visions and is highly interested in them.

I am now going to write a fanfic about Olivine Granite:

Olivine Granite watched civilisation crumble around her. She watched fighting, she watched killing, she watched hating, she watched dying.
She didn't like dying. Along with all the others, yes, but mostly dying. She didn't like the nothingness that supposedly followed.
And the war had just begun.
And it was because of this threat that she chose Elemental magic over adept. She didn't HAVE to die. She didn't HAVE to leave the earth.
So long as she became part of it.
So Olivine Granite watched civilisation crumble around her, and she knelt down to the earth, and she felt herself become part of it, felt the stone slide around her, felt herself drift away.

Olivine opened her eyes. Where was she? The world was so different. She stood up, unsteady on her feet, and wandered. Had the war ended? Was the world a better place now? Who had won? Her stomach lurched at the thought of Mevolent ruling the world with his evil followers, trying to bring their gods to Earth.
Someone scurried up to her. Olivine hoped she was a sorcerer. All she wanted right now was answers.
“They’re here” the woman said, looking like she was going to have a panic attack. “The Faceless Ones. They’re here.” She started to cry.
“What do you mean they’re here? I thought the Faceless Ones and all that was just a crazy religious belief!” Now Olivine was panicking a little.
“Me too, but they’re at Aranmore Farm, and they’re, and they’re...”
“Wait, so Mevolent’s plan worked? Mevolent won?
The sorcerer seemed to calm down a little, and frowned at her. “Uh, Mevolent’s dead. We won the war. Where have you been?”
Olivine didn’t have time for this. “What’s your name?”
“Voltrix Malicia”
“Voltrix, listen to me. Look at me.”
Voltrix looked up at her.
“Voltrix, is the world ending?”
Voltrix only had time to nod before she started crying again.
“Oh, great” Olivine muttered. She knelt down and touched the Earth again.

Torture Slay
Is a necromancer whose object she renders her power from is a metal wisdom tooth. She is 80 but looks 40. She hates the sanctuary and has the personality of the evil old women at the end of the street, who takes your toys and never gives them back. Every street has them. She has always liked dark creepy things. She isn’t that powerful but boy she know how to torture. She is the head off the I.R.I (Intercepting and Receiving Information) part of the temple. Really translating into, find a sanctuary agent beat the crap out of him/her and or tortures them for info. It’s that simple. During battle to release the shadows she opens her mouth and like a beam of darkness shoots forward. She was married to the torment. She is dark eyed, dark haired with very pale skin. She is an English woman who was born in London.

(Australian entry)

Locust Edenskirl is an elemental who long ago lived amongst the tribes of the Great Island at the bottom of the world. For many centuries she lived there, leading her people into a golden age of peace. Then the white invaders came with their great canoes and deadly sticks. The tribes were stripped of their land, the golden age was over. Amongst the bodies of her people she swore her vengeance. The advance of human technology had allowed this to happen, so she began to wage a war against it. Despite her efforts she could not stop the humans advancement. By the early 21st century anger and hatred had long since since destroyed her conscience, she now fought whatever the cost, even innocent human life. Wanted by sanctuaries around the world her for destructive and murderous tendencies she flees to Ireland to continue her quest for the destruction of human technology and a return to prehistory ...

I feel that as it gets closer to the new year (and the end of the world) I would like to post another entry.
Third time's the charm...

Go ahead and use this character however you want Derek. I wouldn't put it here for no reason.
I think.

Lilanthane Verdant.
-a medievil sorcerer (sort of king arthurish time if you like) who died rather tragic and accidentally.
-She is now a ghost
-She maintains her powers and has a pet vampire that she uses to run errands.
-Her skills run with the forests as they are her home.
-In life she was known as Lilanthane of the Wood.
-She is in a harmony with nature and spends most all of her time surrounded by it.
-She loves riding her (ghost) horse, Jatta, and enjoys her "retirement".

She has hawk-brown hair and yellow eyes. Her skin was tan but paled with her ghosthood.
She dresses in practical but persistantly medievil clothing (she has only the clothes she owned when she died) and carries a bow, dagger and a swiss army knife she claims was a gift.
She is short but muscular and agile; more so as a ghost. Despite looking fierce she loathes conflict and tends to stay out of things.

Lilanthane thinks shrubberies are a waste of time.

Thanks for thinking of us Aussies Derek! Good luck to everyone who entered and is yet to enter!! I wish we could all win!

Here is a short story about Crimson Rayne:

Crimson Rayne clicked her fingers together and summoned a flame, her Sapphire blue and crimson red eyes were cold and fierce as she turned to the man that murdered her sister; Billy-ray Sanguine. She had followed him for seven years and now she was finally going to get her revenge,
“Oi, Billy-Ray Sanguine.”
Billy-Ray turned around with his straight razor in hand ready to defend himself but relaxed slightly when he saw the girl
“Do you remember me?” Crimson hissed as she slowly walked closer to him
“Yeah, aren’t you that Australian chick I killed?”
“No, you killed my sister and for that, you will pay.”
Crimson threw the fireball and drew a throwing star from the inside of her jacket. Billy-Ray ducked under the fireball but he wasn’t expecting the star that followed it. He cursed as the sharp metal sliced open his bicep.
“That was not a wise move darlin’. Why don’t you jump back on a kangaroo and go home.”
“Ya know the Aussie jokes get old real fast.”
Crimson pushed at the air and sent Billy-Ray flying backwards. A black car skidded around the corner and blocked her view of Billy-Ray. Crimson knew that car; she stood up straight and readied herself to face the great Skeleton Detective and his partner. They got out of the car and Skulduggery Pleasant walked up to her.
“Hello, who are you?” Skulduggery said in a voice like velvet, making Crimson’s knees go weak.
“Crimson Rayne,”
“You have an accent,” Valkyrie interrupted
“Thank you for that obvious statement,” Crimson replied sarcastically “Yes, I am from Australia.”
“What are you doing here?”
“That is none of your business child.” Valkyrie clenched her fist as she opened her mouth to retort back but Skulduggery cut in
“There is no need to be rude Crimson.” Skulduggery said stepping between the two girls and closer to Crimson. She rolled her eyes to hide her nervousness of him being so close to her and replied,
“I’m here for him.”
Crimson jerked her chin towards where Billy-Ray was last seen but he was long gone. Crimson snarled in displeasure,
“Now he’s gone. Do you realize how hard it was to find that stupid hit man when you’re supposed to be dead?”
Skulduggery cocked his head
“You were trying to kill Billy-Ray?”
Crimson hesitated, not sure what to say.
“Yes,”
“Why?”
“Because he killed my sister.”
“Ah, so its revenge?”
Crimson nodded then gave Skulduggery a two fingered salute and rose off the ground, into the night sky.
“Hey where do you think you’re going?” Valkyrie called
“Away from you.”
Skulduggery manipulated the air and rose up into the sky to meet her.
“You can fly?”
“Yes, I've taught myself to fly and do lots of other things; I have a lot of spare time on my hands.”
“I’m supposed to bring you in for attempted murder.” Skulduggery put his hands in his pockets and cocked his head to the side.
“I work for the Australian Sanctuary and I'm assigned to Billy-Ray Sanguine.”
“Ah, right. So are you going back to Australia now”
“No,”
“No?”
“I have a killer to catch. I hope we run into each other again.”
“You never know.”
Skulduggery tipped his hat to her and descended to the ground. Crimson watched him drive away in the Bentley; she sighed and then pushed the air and shot across the night sky; away from Skulduggery and towards where Billy-Ray Sanguine was last staying.

I’m from New Zealand, and so naturally my character had to be a Kiwi as well. I’m nothing if not patriotic, even if I do forget the words to the national anthem sometimes.
So anyway, Tasman Fathom (known as Tas) is a young Elemental from New Zealand, who naturally bounces off Valkyrie because she finds his accent hilarious. He also snuffs out her fireballs by manipulating the moisture in the air around her hand, which she doesn’t appreciate very much. Tas Fathom is a member of the Caeruleus, a band of Elementals who use their natural aptitude for controlling water to assist in surf lifesaving, saving people from floods, and directing tsunamis away from seaside towns. Fletcher himself once requested Tas to be his personal haircare assistant, to keep the rain off his head. Tas hates fire, so naturally is sent candles every Christmas. He also strives to remain calm and composed at all times, but can bicker like a four-year-old if provoked.
The Caeruleus are largely looked down upon by the magical community, partly because most believe it going against Mother Nature to mess with natural disasters, and partly because the Caeruleus are seen as sissies for eschewing the other elements.
I’m not sure yet what use he’ll be in a story, but I love the character.

“Skulduggery waved one hand as he walked into Tas’s kitchen. “Valkyrie, Tas is from the Caeruleus. Discuss”.
Valkyrie cleared her throat in the blistering silence that followed his departure.
“So… Tas? As in Tasmania? That’s in New Zealand, right?”
Tas looked inexplicably furious and fixed her with a glare that was way worse than any awkward silence. “I cannot believe you just said that. How typical.”
Valkyrie instantly leapt off the deep end right along with him, and a fireball blazed into her hand. “What’s that supposed to mean?!”
Tas twitched his hand and the fireball was instantly snuffed out. She stared at her hand, confused. “What….”
Frustrated, she clicked her fingers again, only to be rewarded by a violent hissing noise. She looked up at Tas, who had an annoyingly superior expression on his face. “How are you doing that? Skulduggery said you were an elemental.”
He snorted. “Don’t you listen? I’m from the Caeruleus. As in, those with an aptitude for water. Which trumps fire, in case you hadn’t noticed.”
Valkyrie raised her eyebrows. “So you restrict yourself to one element? Willingly?”
Tas shrugged. “It makes me better at water manipulation. And of course, I’m more in tune with the ocean, so naturally I can’t eat fish.”
Valkyrie blinked. “You mean fish?”
“That’s what I said.”
“No you didn’t. You said ‘fush’. It’s that twangy accent of yours.”
“What?! You’re the one with the funny accent!”
“Just because I pronounce my “I”s properly doesn’t mean I speak funny!”
Skulduggery strode between them without warning, interrupting their bickering.
“Sorry to cut into the sheer maturity of your conversation, but we need to get going. See you, Tas.”
Valkyrie scowled at him. “I’d say it’s a pleasure to meet you, but it isn’t.”
Tas just folded his arms and stared at the ceiling, scowling.
When Valkyrie stepped outside the ocean-blue house a moment later, she was not unduly surprised to find it pelting down with rain.”

p.s I haven’t really thought about how to describe him physically, except that he has feline features high cheekbones and almond-shaped eyes that are the dark blue-green-grey of a lagoon. Which incidentally is what Caeruleus translates to :)

p.p.s I may send you a shrubbery by boat. If I’m feeling generous.

■SHORT STORY OF CRIMSON RAYNE:

Crimson Rayne clicked her fingers together and summond a flame, her Sapphire blue and Crimson red eyes were cold and fierce as she turned to the man that murdered her sister; Billy-Ray Sanguine. She had followed him for 7 years and was finally going to get her revenge.

"Oi, Billy-Ray Sanguine!"
The texan spun around with his razor in hand ready to defend himself.
"Do you rememeber me?"
she hissed as she slowly walked towards him
"Yeah, aren't you that Australian chick that i killed?"
"No, that was my sister that you heartlessly murdered. You took my only family away from me and for that you will die!"
Crimson threw the fireball in her hand and withdrew a throwing star from her coat. Billy-Ray dodged the fireball but wasn't expecting the sharp throwing star that followed. The metal star sliced through his bicep and he hissed in pain.

"That was not a wise move darlin'. i sugest you jump back on a kangaroo and go home."
"Ya know the Aussie jokes get old real fast."
Crimson pushed at the air and sent Billy-Ray hurtling backwards, he crashed into a brick wall and Crimson started to advance on him when a big black car skidded around the corner. Crimson knew that car, it belonged to the Skeleton Detective. She stopped and braced herself to meet Skulduggery Plesasant for the first time. Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain stepped out of the car and made their way to Crimson. Valkyries eyes widened when she first looked into Crimson different coloured eyes.

"Hello, who are you?"
"My name is Crimson Rayne,"
Valkyrie snickered
"What are laughing at child?"
"Your ridiculous accent."
"Its Australian and i oughta slap you for dissing me."
Skulduggery stepped between the two girls, cutting off their bickering. Crimson's heart began to beat a little bit faster Skulduggery brushed against her.
"Enough. Crimson, why are you here in Ireland?"
"To get him"
She jerked her head towards where Billy-ray landed but snarled in displeasure to discover he had fled.
"Damn it! Do you realize how hard it was to finally find that stupid hit man?"
"Why are you trying to find him?"
"He took my sisters life, now i take his."
"Ah, so its a revenge thing."
"Sorta."

Crimson sighed then gave Skulduggery a two fingered salute and rose into the night sky
"Where are you going?" Valkyrie called
"Away from annoying children like you."
Skulduggery pushed the air and followed Crimson into the sky, when he was level with her he put hhis hands in his pockets and cocked his head to the side.
"I think im supposed to be arresting you for attempted murder."
Crimson laughed and shook her head
"Im with the Australian Sacturary, im assigned to get Billy-Ray."
"Ah right. Will you be going back home?"
"Nope."
"No?"
"Ive got a killer to catch, rememeber."
"Good luck."
"You too. Hopefully we will run into each other again."
"Only if you promise not to insult my partner,"
"No promises."
Crimson laughed and waved goodbye. Skulduggery decended and hopped into the Bentely and drove towards Dublin city. Crimson watched the Bentely drive away and she headed back to her base to find Billy-Ray and finally get her revenge.

Im an Aussie and I really hope you like my character...

Destin Quark discovered her natural talent for elemental magic at a very young age when she accidentally burnt down her family home, her parents died in the fire in their efforts to save their daughter. Destin was then raised by her uncle who was a master of elemental magic and assisted Destin in her guilt driven quest to gain complete control over the elements.

By the time she was in her early twenties she had great experience with elemental magic and had even began to develop her own techniques, such as combining her power over water and fire to create a cloud of steam which she could fill a room with and impair the vision of an enemy. She can also turn an object or even the ground to ice by condensing the water molecules in and around it and then freezing it by using her mastery of fast moving air.

The majority of her life Destin kept to her self and focused mainly on her training with the occasional confrontation with anyone who threatened to disturb the peace in her local area.

She makes her first appearance in the magical community when she is hired by the sanctuary to spread her advanced defensive based knowledge of elemental magic. She ends up a few detective mission with Skulduggery and Val, she teaches Val and Skulduggery a few tricks and in exchange Skulduggery teaches her a few of his.

I really really really hope u like it, didn't have much time to think about it as I only just saw the competition and thought id get and entry before I forgot or left it too late, wrote most of it on the spot. I would be absolutely thrilled if any of the material I provided was used at all, thank you so much for even just supplying the opportunity to give something back after all the joy the Skulduggery Pleasant books have provided me with, and of course Happy New Year :)

also here is a nice shrubbery I found for you, I hope you like it http://media.photobucket.com/image/shrubbery/madmaz74/shrubbery.jpg

Elemental: Thomas Green. He is fluent in the language of symbols. When he was five years old, he was fluent in two languages, and since then has learned three more. Tom's knowledge of symbols is greater than even China Sorrows'. He is 20 years old, and is always serious, although very polite. His sense of humour is lacking, hence the serious demeanour. He is an Elemental, but that aspect of his power is quite weak; he can only produce a small spark when aiming for a fireball. But if he gets close and draws even the smallest symbol on you, with anything from a knife to his own fingers, you may be in danger. He has perfect raven black hair and bright blue eyes. This, and his extraordinary knowledge of symbols questions the relation to China Sorrows and the late Mr Bliss, but his parents were mortals, and there is no relation. Thomas always wears shorts, even in the freezing Ireland winters, which draws unwanted attention from mortals questioning his sanity in below zero conditions.

Hi,

My name is Tierney, and this is my first time commenting on the blog. I am very excited about entering the character competition!
I live in New Zealand, so I have created an entry for a male character.
I hereby give Derek Landy, generous, gracious Golden God, permission for this character to be put into his fantastic story.

Alastair Furious is about 40 years old, and has matted brown hair, wears a dirty coat, and is never without his walking cane, which is the source of his magic. He can calm the minds of both sorcerers and mortals alike. To do so, he has to simply look into their eyes, and they will immediately calm down. This can be helpful when trying to convince them to do something, and by doing this, he makes it impossible for them to attack in any way.
Unfortunately, he is a rather selfish man, and usually only uses his powers for his own benefit. He will only use his powers to help others if he is bribed. He fears other sorcerers, because he is much weaker than most. However, his power is rare, making him rather important, although not as much so as he believes.
The last thing that is essential to know about Furious is that he is very untrustworthy. As soon as he receives his pay, he will abandon you, out of either fear or laziness. To prevent this, you must remember to only give him his cash, fast food vouchers or whatever you give him, after he has done what he has promised to do.

I hope that you like Furious.
Thank you,
From Tierney.

Hi again,

I don't know how you might fit this person into a short story, but I thought that I might not get another chance for a while to tell you about him, so I'll comment about him anyway.

Blue Enigma is hundreds of years old, but looks like a five-year-old boy, with blonde hair and blue eyes. He can tell the future, but is very confused about the whole thing.
To see into the future, he sits at a table, which is covered in jigsaw puzzle pieces. He will go into a trance, and move pieces around. At first, the pieces he begins to fit together seem to be blank, but then they will form random shapes. Finally, Blue will fit the last piece in, and a moving picture will appear on the pieces. It will last as long as his trance does.
The pieces he fits together will never form a whole puzzle. Blue has never solved the whole puzzle, although he tries every day.

Again, I don't know if Blue Enigma will be helpful in your story, but I thought I'd write about him anyway.

Oh! And I give Derek Landy, Golden God, full permission to put this character into his mind-blowing story.

Tierney.

I'm from New Zealand by the way.

Name: Chameleon James

Adept: Like a chameleon he is able to blend in with the colour and texture of his surroundings.

Chameleon James is in his 70's but looks to be in his mid 30's. He's short and plump with dark brown hair and chocolate brown eyes. Being from New Zealand he speaks with a distinct New Zealand accent. He's a grumpy man who perfers his own company to the company of others.

Hi,

Here is my third character. I am going to enter as many times as I can before midnight! Oh, and by the way Derek, I just read Death Bringer. It was fantastic! The bit about Darquesse and Lord Vile fighting was squeamishly good.

Rusty Keyhole works at a small shop called The Illusion Market. He is the shopkeeper. The Illusion Market looks like a locked shed to any mortal, but to sorcerers it is a small but neat store. Rusty sells many magical objects, including the magical rainbow powder Skulduggery uses.
Rusty's power is to be able to sense theft. He just has to step into a room to be able to tell what was stolen, when and who. Like China Sorrows, he punishes thieves quite severely. Because of this, there haven't been anything stolen from the shop in 50 years.
He is often taken to crime scenes, and he has met Skulduggery more than once. His power is uncommon, and people come from different countries all over the world to get him to solve their mysteries.

Rusty is my favourite so far!

Darnia said...

Hi Molly, Chameleon James sounds really cool! What a fantastic idea.

Darnia said...

Here is Entry Number 4.

Ashtray Black is a novelist. He wrote The 92 Elementals, which is a biography of the 92 greatest Elementals existing. Skulduggery is one of the first in the book.
Ashtray's power is being able to get information out of anyone, as long as he is on his special grey phone, which has symbols carved all over it. He was too afraid of Skulduggery to force him to give him information, so he just politely interviewed him instead. He can get even the most accomplished liar to tell the truth, therefore he is quite powerful.
He is always very busy, interrogating criminals, but he plans to write a second book.

I hereby give Derek Landy permission to use this character in his work. *brings shrubbery*

Ok, my female character is an elemental called Adalinda Vitriolic. She works as an assassin for hire and does her job without remorse or any other emotion for that matter. She is skilled in Taekwondo and is able to kill a man with a length of telephone coil or a running-wall kick, with the help of her poison tipped stilettos. This particular footwear can retract at will and has a sharp point with poison vessels leading towards the point. She has the demeanor very much like a snake, lurking in the shadows and striking suddenly and without warning. Her greatest love in life is money. Not to buy anything with it, just the company of crisp notes of many currencies in her apartment, which is pretty much a concrete cellar. Her family was killed during the war, driving her insane and begging for help from anyone. They shunned her knowing how evil her family was, and face it; she was a creepy kid/teenager. After she went through her insanity phase, she looked back and saw how weak she was. After that, she vowed to never again be weakened by emotion, hence her current emotional state. She is very intimidating despite being small of stature. She has piercing green eyes and intense red hair which is cut to her jawbone. Her way of talking is old fashioned, like it came out of an Enid Blyton storybook, freely using the words ‘peculiar’ etc. If there’s on feeling she still has intact, it’s insulted. She has the disquieting habit of mortally wounding the people who insult her, and seems to elude the grasp of the law on every attempt to capture her.
If I do not get chosen, I hope you enjoyed reading this description :)

"I hereby give my Golden God, Derek Landy, full rights to take this character and adapt it into his brain-explodingly brilliant work."

Name: Rachel Scar

Powers: An adept. Her ability is to make people angry, to make them want to taste blood. To confuse them. She can basically play with some of there emotions.

Profession: Rachel is the leader of the infamous magical gang, blood and bone. The name might sound a tad silly but they are well known for there brutality and strength. Rachel also isn't against hiring the gang out for mercenary work, assassination and torture sessions.

Connections: Rachels gang briefly helped malevolent himself during the war. Rachel wasn't alive at the time but her dad was sent to interrogate some of the prisoners. After the interrogation the dead-men broke in and freed the prisoners. Her dad was lucky to get out alive.

Now someone is hiring the gang as some armed thugs in case skulduggery pleasant comes bursting through the door.

Age: 117 but looks like she's 32

Clothes and looks: Rachel dresses full on hardcore and by that I mean that people will cross the road to get away from her if they see her coming.

She is completely bald other than a bright pink mohawk and she has a black skull earring in her left ear. As well as the earring in her ear she also has a golden ring in her nose, a green stud in her lip and eyebrow and a golden stud in her tongue.

Her arms are tattooed with red shadows and on her right hand as required by the rules for blood and bone she has the blood and bone symbol tattooed. The symbol is two bones standing up vertically, half drenched in blood.

She wears a sleeveless light purple tank top that reveals her belly piercing and tight black pants that go down just past her knee. She has a tattoo of a snake winding up her left leg and she wears big black boots.

She has a thick black belt that holds two pistols, four knifes and a grenade.

Traits: She is aggressive, stubborn and definitely scary. No one questions her and despite her appearance she is reasonably smart. She makes no jokes and is sort of crazy. She rambles on quite a lot about things that have nothing to do with the situation at hand.

Her boxing is almost prefect as is her martial arts. She uses a lot of punching moves and painful holds but she isn't against a karate chop or a kick.

There we are. My last entry. Finally I think I have done enough. I hope you have liked them golden god, oh I really hope you have. I really, really want to win but I doubt begging will increase my chances. Anyway see ya, happy new years and a fanfic for Rachel is coming soon!

By Commenting this Comment, I hereby give Derek Landy full rights to take this character and mould him into his brain-explodingly brilliant, and modest, work. It would be an honour. Supposedly. But no Shrubbery. Shrubbery is mine. Ni!

Sorry it’s pretty darn late...not deadline yet though! Oh and another thing, my character is MALE and i’m from AUSTRALIA. Because my female characters annoy me. If this makes my entry void so be it. It was worth a try.

Spencer Abstain is his taken name, the name he adopted a year after he was picked up off the streets. Spencer had suffered from a fugue, when his mind had simply not wanted to be him anymore. His mind had run away, leaving him homeless and, for the most part, latently schizophrenic. That was 2 decades ago; at around the time he stopped ageing, his appearance frozen as it had been: the tall, sharp featured Welshman, with medium length ginger hair and stubble lining his jaw. He suffered from mild anisocoria, one pupil in his blue-grey eyes significantly larger than the other.
Spencer’s schizophrenia is defined in periods of latency and periods of severe onset. The latter periods involve two main factors: what has been diagnosed as hallucination and delusion. But what the doctors don’t know is that these periods of onset unlock Spencer’s psychic ability, inflicting him with vision upon vision. Not always on an apocalyptic scale, Spencer’s visions can involve the next person to enter a shop, or the next time it will rain. The key difference with Spencer’s ability is that to a degree, he can opt what he will see. The subject of Spencer’s revelation is often subconsciously chosen by himself. All his power needs is for someone to recognise it.
But the periods of severe onset are not always visions. Every now and then Spencer severely hallucinates. He sees and feels deep black spiders, crawling in and on his skin, overwhelming him. They jump and claw and climb their way over his skin, burrowing in at places, searching, clawing for his brain. Spencer would scream and awake with a fever. What does he not remember about his history with the Children of the Spider?
In his periods of latency, Spencer is a quirky, witty backpacker. However, as he makes his way, alone, up from Dublin, what will happen when he encounters a Child of the Spider, whether it be in Roarhaven or other? What effect would this have on his periods of severe onset?

I'll leave it at that. Cheers, Chloe.

Quintau Morlevski

Small, chubby and has a beautiful smile, wears and apron at work (he works in a cafe).

Background/History: In the early 1600's, a group of sorcerer's from the American sanctuary went on a mission to find a small island which held sorcerer hostages on it. After months on the wretched boat, the sorcerers ended up in New Zealand. Clueless as to where they were, they explored the place, and got along with the native moari civilians. One of the sorcerers fell in love with one of the natives.... RAINBOWS! FIREWORKS!..... and BANG! Tanga Matu was born, Tanga Matu eventually took on the name Quintau Morlevski.

Eventually Quintau left his home country New Zealand and went adventuring and exploring the world. Quintau soon decided to settle into Ireland. Quintau now works as a chef in a newly opened cafe in Roarhaven....

Quintau is a sorcerer who has adept magic. Before Quintau serves a meal to a customer he says a special prayer, the prayer brings good, holy energy into the food giving it better taste and healing properties. Over the years he has become a bit of an icon, not only because he's part Maori, but his food has brought enlightenment to a few of the Roarhaven sorcerers. He has also brought many sorcerers out of depression. Grand Mage Erskine Ravel recommends that sorcerers eat at Quintau's cafe.

I tried to post this before and i dont think it worked, so here it is again:
I hereby give my Golden God, Derek Landy, full rights to take this character and adapt it into his brain-explodingly brilliant work. And I am from Australia, so my character is female.
Her name is Crystal Ridge. Her age is unknown, but she appears to be in her twenties. She has dark brown hair with dark blue streaks and is rather pale. She usually wears a battered trenchcoat and jeans. She is an elemental, but she only holds power over water, as she believes that one should focus on one aspect of the elements rather than trying to juggle all of them. She is very good at manipulating water and uses the water vapour in the air to hurl water at her foes or trap them in a ball of water (which drowns them). She also draws the water out of her enemies, which can cause them to pass out from dehydration. She also crosses distances by creating clouds with water vapour which she walks across. She believes that her way of using elemental magic is superior to other elementals and believe adepts are foolish to choose their type of magic. She is cocky, independant, selfish and mysterious. She isn't on a side (good or evil), but she sides with the side that will benefit her the most.

And there is my character. I hope you take it into consideration and it is such an honour to me that you've even read something I wrote, as the amazing writer of the Skulduggery Pleasant series.

By Commenting this other Comment, I hereby give Derek Landy full rights to take this character and mould her into his brain-explodingly brilliant, and modest, work. If he so pleases.

Here is another...with me conforming to the gender specifics. I am not proud of my character development here -_- it is simpler, more mundane, and the layout is frankly easier to read. Oh well.

Chosen name: Cadence Miracle

Gender: Female

Age: appears 24, real age 98

Appearance: short cropped brown hair with sun bleached streaks (hair cannot grow long due to excessive chemotherapy). Soft features, pale skin, dark eyes. Thick boned, of medium height. Wears ripped jeans, with tank tops or tshirts, and assorted coats: either a dark hoodie, black coat with turned up collars, or long, burnt-crimson leather trenchcoat. Converse shoes are a must. Two silver rings adorn the top of her right ear.

Background: Cadence was recruited as Officer in the Field to the Sanctuary in Sydney at the age of 30. She was an adept who worked her magic through sigils and symbols, each of which were engraved into various key areas on her skin. Cadence specialises in hand to hand combat and martial arts from the east, with her title ‘Officer in the Field’ relating mainly to physical confrontation. As the years progressed, she seamlessly increased in rank, until she was a highly respected member in the Sanctuary of Sydney. She started to train in rough firearms, crude blades and western arts.
But at the ripe old age of 94 something absolutely normal, and we hate to say mortal, happened to Cadence. She developed malignant liver cancer. Something which the best science-magic doctors in Australia couldn’t permanently cure, let alone prevent from spreading. The weakening Cadence spent 2 years in and out of hospital, and was ‘relieved’ from her post at the sanctuary. By this time the cancer had spread to her kidneys, lungs, and finally heart. On the verge of death, the weakened Cadence made one last desperate attempt at life: she paid a high ranking surgeon to engrave healing, regenerative and sustaining sigils on each inflicted organ.
6 months of recovery saw Cadence back at the Sanctuary. However, she now has to rely completely on her physical and mundane skills, as all her magic is directed towards keeping her alive.

Personality: Cadence is highly intelligent, organised, and a control freak. She likes things accomplished. However she is also capable of humour, and is not afraid to resort to sarcasm. She is inflicted with insomnia. She is respected, periodically brilliant, and enigmatic.

I hereby give my golden god, Derek Landy full rights to take this character and adapt it into his brain-explodingly brilliant work.

Name:Vivian (Viv) Rock

Vivian Rock has brown curly hair and green contacts but really has blue eyes. She wears t shirts and jeans or whatever has the comfort or helps her run away quickly. She has long legs, wears gloves and sometimes if it's cold enough a beanie. She has a belt around her waist that holds a gun, a rope with a hook attached and a knife. She covers this with a protective jacket that reflects bullets.

Vivian rock is the master; escape artist, lock picker and criminal. She steals things and gets away from both sanctuary and civilian police and detectives. She holds people and possessions to ransom. She does anything, she hates little people and is an adept but every ounce of her power goes to combat skills.

She is ruthless and couldn't careless about others. When she finally gets captured by a visiting Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain she doesn't give in to them. They want her to help them find some freak who is committing a series of murders. But she won't say anything even if she has an idea and they are holding something precious of hers to ransom.

I hereby give my golden god, Derek Landy, full rights to take this character and adapt it into his brain-explodingly brilliant work.

Name: Marina Diamond

Marina Diamond has natural white hair and sea blue eyes that pull you in like rips in the ocean. She wears protective clothing in the shape of dresses and has a tattoo of a ship on her shoulder that is not at all tatty or ugly. She looks like she is 21 but is 54. Marina is pale and smells like a pearl if a pearl had a smell

Marina's mother was a maiden of the sea who fell in love with an elemental man. She has no choice in magic because her bloodlines turned her into an elemental that could only work with water and air. She is always smiling and loves music. She is an Australian and try's her best to stay away from the sanctuary when she can help it. Marina purposely called herself Marina Diamond because Marina means of the sea and her mother was a sea maiden and Diamond because Diamonds come from the earth and her father was an earth dweller.

Marina Diamond lives in a mortal street and the beach is her backyard.she plays her music loud from an iPod and invites her friends over to dance with her. She is a likable person and likes meeting new people. She loves playing around with her water powers and messing about with air.

Amhránaí Sona
Is a 2000 years old woman who looks 70. She is an adept magician who can reawaken the dead with her singing. Instead of seeing them in the flesh you are able to see a ghostly representation of the person. But instead of a see threw person the ghost is normal looking with ripples outside them. She lives in a white cottage with a red door and a thatched roof, on a mound in the middle of a bog overlooking a large pond. Every now and then she sings to the bog. It soon becomes a Montage of all the eras of life on this earth. Plants, people, wild horses, birds, etc. are brought back to life. But she particularly likes singing for the ancients. Because of reanimating these old peoples they gave her the gift of internal life which if she wants to end she can. She is medium height, grey hair, pale blue eyes and always has a smile on her face. She is a happy, cheerful lady and very friendly.

WARNING
This is only part one. The character limit forced me to divide it between two posts. Hopefully I will post quickly enough to have them consecutive.

I hereby give my Golden God, Derek Landy, full rights to take this character and adapt it into his brain-bustingly brilliant work.

Name: Not sure. I can never come up with the names. I'll use Person Person for the purposes of this submission.

Appearance: Medium but muscular build. Tight-fitting, shock-absorbent leather clothing and a gas mask (partly to be prepared for any (well, many) situations). Tries not to show her face. Caucasian tone. I think blue eyes. Short black hair.
Powers/Skills: In the legit (non-magic) side of magical combat, she chose boxing, having already practised it before discovering magic. This decreases the speed, adaptability and dynamic-ness (?) that some other characters (namely, the ones that use martial arts) have, but it's made up for in raw strength and well timed punches. Her magical path is Adept; her main skill is that she can start a psychic conversation (like mind-reading, but going both ways) with any person she has eye contact with. She can only keep it going while eye contact is maintained. However, it works by conveying ideas and raw thoughts, not words and sentences. This means she can also use this to put subliminal messages in someone's mind, get inside their subconscious and totally freak them out (gas mask helps here), or have a mental battle of wills with her victim. She should probably have some minor powers, but I can’t think of any. Possibly give her a knife, not sure on that.

Role: No idea whatsoever. Assassin? Henchman? Thief? Hit-girl? Somehow I think she should be a villain, but feel free to do whatever you want with it.

I’ve added a few paragraphs here; partly to set me apart from the rest; partly just to give you an idea of how to use it (‘cause I’m SO sure you’re gonna pick me).

As a villain:
Skulduggery approached the leather-clad figure, staring deep into the eyeholes of that gas mask. Suddenly he rushed in with a right hook. Gas mask dodged back out of the way before retaliating with a well-timed uppercut, which he dodged, and, quick as a flash, ran behind him to brutally jab a pressure point in his shoulder. They kept eye contact. He stumbled back, then ran forward, driving his fist toward Skulduggery’s ribs. Skulduggery grabbed his right arm with his left and pulled him in against his upper-cut. They kept eye contact. Gas mask feigned to Skulduggery’s jaw, then went for where his heart should have been. Skulduggery tried to deflect it, but he was too slow. They kept eye contact. Valkyrie frowned. She’d seen him block, dodge and parry fists ten times as forceful.

PART ONE FINISHED
PART TWO WILL BE POSTED IMMEDIATELY

Mikester said...

HERE IS PART TWO
I earlier posted part one of my entry. The character limit forced me to do it between two. Well, here you go.

*picks up where I left off*
But then the punch itself was only powerful enough to make him stumble back. She realised the fight was decreasing in intensity. They kept eye contact. By now, they couldn’t even get the punches to their destinations. And eventually even these – “vanity punches” as Skulduggery called them – faded away to nothing. That’s when Valkyrie realised – there had been another, more subtle battle all along. A mental battle. A battle of wills. An unspoken argument. She walked closer and looked into both their eyes in turn. She saw focus and silent aggression. And all through the mind. She realised she needed to get back. This was exactly the kind of thing that would let out Darquesse. She walked back a few steps, and suddenly she noticed the tide was turning. Stalemate was becoming check. Gas Mask stumbled back. Valkyrie ran over and caught him, lowering him to the ground. Skulduggery walked intimidatingly over.
“Well then. What’s your name?” he asked as Valkyrie took off the gas mask.
They gasped. It was a woman.

As a hero/ally (fighting Dusk*):

They entered the building in single file, Skulduggery, Ghastly, then Person and Valkyrie.
Valkyrie was disgusted. Tanith gets possessed - so what? It doesn't mean Skulduggery and Ghastly should just replace her with some Person Person. Tanith had earned her trust over years. This one, she didn't even like.
And nobody in their right mind could agree with that discipline. Worming a way into the psyche, projecting fear and horror. Soon to be mixed with the physical pain of boots and fists. She didn't care who was in here, their method was just plain cruel.
They advanced cautiously, stepping over dead bodies and overturned furniture.
Eventually they found a room with a door which didn't open. Locked and probably bolted. Skulduggery rushed at it, ramming the door with his shoulder, cushoning the impact with air. It burst open, splinters going everywhere. Person went in first, and was ambushed by a vampire. It tackled her to the ground and went to bite her, but she threw it backwards into Ghastly's arms, who bashed it on the floor, knocking it out. They advanced.
Eventually they came to the one room which wasn't utterly destroyed. It was empty. They looked around and Skulduggery just managed to move to the side as Dusk jumped from the ceiling. He rolled when he hit the ground, then looked up with a bloodthirsty expression - right into the pupils of Person Person.
It didn't take him long to succumb. Valkyrie shuddered as she handcuffed him. It was cruel, but effective.

Here's your shrubbery.**

*Wait, is he dead? I honestly can't keep up...

**Phew! That's the last rule. That makes me completely compliant!

If you haven't read part one yet it should be somewhere earlier.

P.S. I nearly forgot! Here goes nothing...

"You love me,h" he said in a cheerful voice.
"Get away from me," skulduggery said with all the hate in his soul.
"Ohh, come on," albi said as he was reaching out to hug him. next thing you know albi was on the ground with a black eye and skulduggery had his hands in a fist.

Saskia Riskilus' To-Do List

Mon-Wed, 6am-4pm: Maintain day job as Australian Customs and Border Protection Service officer.

6pm-8pm: Weight-lift for ten minutes, get bored, play with air for eighty minutes, feel guilty, practise dual-wielding with rapiers, feel like a ridiculous dancer with wobbly swords, smash training dummy with huge medieval sword to make up for it. Smash it to pieces! God, that feels good. Bigger really is better.

Thu-Fri, 6pm: Report to Australian Sanctuary.
6.30pm: Make awkward conversation in the van.
7pm-12am: Hold hands with the air and start running - simply being untouchable to everything and everyone except the air and the dark. Inevitably dash through badly-lit streets, probably arrest someone, if appropriate seize contraband. If investigation is dead end, partake in beer with the others.

Sat: Wash hair. If in hospital, postpone and deliriously flirt with junior officer when he visits. If hung-over in unknown location, run and wash hair ASAP.

Sun: Sleep. Wake up for nothing short of Apocalypse.

Repeat.

The mansion was fortified with the best mortal security money could buy. Guard dogs, security cameras, infra-red beams, high brick walls – everything that an obscenely wealthy individual might need to keep his valuables safe from sticky-fingered reprobates like Glory Manos.

Well… not exactly like Glory Manos. The kind of reprobate the owner had in mind probably wasn’t a mage, after all. Glory was both a mage and a reprobate, and quite happy with both. That did have the unfortunate side effect of making her quite heavily wanted by the Sanctuary, and with good reason: Glory was a cat burglar so skilled that even real cats were envious. At least she suspected they were. She’d never actually spoken to a cat.

Currently, she was perched in a tree just outside the high brick wall surrounding the mansion, dark hair tied back, dark skin clothed all in grey to melt in with the shadows, brown eyes scoping the place out one final time before she made her move. Oddly, on this occasion at least, she wasn’t aiming to take everything that wasn’t bolted down (as tempting as the prospect was). There were all sorts of shiny things in there just crying out to be stolen, but Glory was only interested in one of them: the Eye of Medusa.

Long, long ago, a powerful but quite mad sorceress had fallen in unrequited love with a mortal man. Knowing that he would eventually age and die, she had placed an enchantment on an emerald amulet: that whosoever its holder wished would turn to stone with but a thought. One brief knock on her beloved’s door later and his beauty was preserved in marble forever, or near enough to forever as made no odds. The sorceress was later hunted down and burned at the stake (she had, alas, neglected to make herself immune to fire), but her amulet, the Eye of Medusa, had survived.

And this rich mortal idiot in his fancy house didn’t even know he had it.

As Glory dropped nimbly from the tree and crept up to the wall, she reflected on how lucky she was that the Eye had been bought by a mortal rather than a mage. A mage would have known what it was, for starters, and set up more effective defences. This brick wall, for instance, was just pathetic. She walked straight up to it – and straight through it, as if it were as insubstantial as air. That was just one of the tricks Glory had up her sleeve – provided it wasn’t living, and hadn’t once lived, she could walk right through any obstacle that presented itself to her.

The front door was wooden. Glory had been expecting that. Happily, however, the rest of the house was one of those excitingly modern metal and glass edifices, all white corners and wide windows (for a good view of the harbour, naturally) and shiny surfaces that put people in mind of living inside an iPod.
Glory walked straight through one of the windows and into the living room, which may as well have been a furniture showroom – everything was squeaky-clean and new and, in short, looked as if it had never actually seen a day’s use. Glory’s fingers positively itched for some of the very valuable paintings she saw on the wall, but no – those were for another time. Perhaps later, once she had the Eye.

Here was where her second useful talent came into play. Glory bent the light around her body, wrapping it around her like a cloak and fading completely from the view of any pesky security cameras that might have been watching her. Oh, sure, she could have gone invisible outside, but that would have felt like cheating. She had to give her dark grey clothes some kind of purpose, after all. Besides, too much time spent invisible exhausted her. With any luck (and a considerable amount of skill, of course), she’d be in and out before the fatigue hit.

JD Niemand said...

(continued...)

It didn’t take long for Glory to spy her goal. The twit had left the Eye on a pedestal in the middle of an unguarded room! Moving swiftly, she went to snatch up the amulet… only for the door to swing shut behind her.
“You can uncloak,” said a male voice from next to it. “I know you’re here.”
Glory unwrapped the light from around herself. “Is that you, sweetie-pie?”
A man appeared next to the door, cloaking sphere in hand. “Don’t call me sweetie-pie, Manos.”
“Awww, so formal. You always used my first name when we went out. But if you insist, ‘Detective Glass’.”
Seeker Glass, Australian Sanctuary detective, folded his arms and fixed Glory with a stern glare. “That was a long time ago, and you know it. Glory Manos, you are under arrest for multiple counts of larceny and unlawful entry. Step away from the Eye of Medusa and come with me.”
“Really?” Glory laughed. “And just how do you expect to keep me from walking right out of here?”
“Look at the walls.”
Glory did, and her eyes widened. It seemed she’d been so focused on the Eye of Medusa that she hadn’t noticed the wood panelling covering every square centimetre of wall space.
“The walls. The floor. Even the ceiling. They’re all made of wood, Glory. There’s no way out.”
“So… this was all some clever trap, then, pumpkin?”
“Didn’t need to be too clever.” Glass smiled wryly. “You were stupid enough to practically broadcast your interest in the Eye all across the country.”
“Well, if that mortal hadn’t bought it at auction…” She hazarded another step towards the amulet, and Glass raised his hand.
“Don’t even think about it.”
“So that’s how it’s going to be, is it? And here I thought you still cared. Oh well. Have fun trying to hit what you can’t see!” Glory vanished again, and Glass looked around, training his hand on any spot from which he heard movement.
“You’re not getting out of here unless it’s in shackles or a body bag, Glory! Give up!”
“Oh, you’d kill your ex-girlfriend over such a trifling little necklace?”
There. Glass snapped out his hand at the source of the voice, and the air rippled. There was a gasp of surprise and a thud against the far wall.
“Uncloak,” Glass ordered her again, striding towards her. Glory grudgingly obeyed, the air pinning her tight as Glass snapped a set of shackles onto her wrists. “You’re good and bound now. Next stop for you, the Sanctuary Gaol.”
“Will you join me in my cell, Seeker?”
“Nice try, but no. Move.” He marched her towards the door.
“You know, it’s interesting,” Glory said as Glass practically pushed her across the floorboards. “How binding works, I mean.”
“Yeah? How do you figure?”
“Well. It dampens someone’s innate magic, sure. But it can’t stop this.”
She whirled around to face Glass, a shiny object dropping out of her sleeve and into her hand…

JD Niemand said...

(final post...)

After the bright light had faded, Glory casually fished the key to the shackles out of Glass’s pocket. He made no attempt to stop her as she freed herself.
“So sorry about that, my darling. But I had to get you off my tail somehow.”
Seeker Glass said nothing.
Glory picked up the Eye of Medusa from the pedestal. It was an exact match for the one she still held in her right hand. “They make amazing replicas nowadays. Don’t you think?”
Seeker Glass didn’t answer.
“I mean, it cost me a bit, sure,” she said, hanging the fake from Glass’s hand. “But I think this little ‘accident’ you had while handling it means it’ll more than pay for itself, hmm?”
Seeker Glass remained silent.
Glory affectionately patted his stone cheek. “And just think, it really was a clever trap after all! Just not yours. I switched the amulets out at the auction house, you see. The mortal bought the fake, you got assigned to catch me when I inevitably came to steal it, I kept the real one nice and hidden until the right moment… and now here we are.”
Seeker Glass didn’t seem impressed.
“You know,” she continued idly, “seeing you like this reminds me of that one night we had together. Remember that, in our younger days? Before you went legit? You had that crazy idea of trying to steal Michelangelo’s David.” She laughed. “I still remember the look on your face when you realised how big it really was!”
The statue that had been Seeker Glass stayed inert, not seeming to care for her memories one bit.
“Well!” Glory said brightly, opening the door. “I’d love to stay and chat, but now that you’re not chasing me, I have lots more larceny and unlawful entry to commit. Hooroo!” And with that, Glory Manos was gone into the night.
Along with a couple of knick-knacks she spotted on her way out, of course.

Oh yes, and there's plenty of shrubberies around the mansion. Knock yourself out, Golden God.

(I am Australian.)

She wore a neat, elbow length, white button-up shirt, black skin tight jaens and ankle high leather boots. Around her neck hung a long thin chain, upon it was a small humming bird. Finally she found it, the information she was looking for. "Skulduggery Pleasant, detective, elemental" she read. "Valkyrie Cain, sidekick, elemental also training in necromancy." "Fletcher Renn, teleporter" she said disaprovingly. "I hate teleporters" she added. Before she coiuld continue the ground in front of her cracked. A man slowly rose out of the hole. The man wore large sunglasses which he did not remove although they were in a dark room. The lady quickly pushed the air and the man was flung backwards. "London Shadow I pressum? Elemental?" said the man who had a strong american accent. "Who are you?" London gasped. "Me? I'm Billy-Raay Sanguine at you service" "What do you want?" "I want you to help me. We share a common goal, to get rid of Skulduggery Pleasant and his gang." London thought for a moment. "I'll do it" she said smiling wickedly. She took hold of Bill-Ray's arm and the ground cracked. as quick as he came they were gone.

I hereby give my Golden God Derek Landy permission to use my character in his brain-explodingly brilliant work.

I haven't had time to post in the last couple of weeks so I'll post as many as I can think of right now. :)

This character I thought up when I couldn't sleep. I see her as quite spooky and incredibly old. I wasn't sure if you were looking for casual characters of more major ones but I see this one as a kind of major minor character...

I think it would be best to tell you of her in story form so here I go...

She was old. Older than you could imagine. She had watched a thousand wars and felt the pain of unimaginable numbers of people. Her given name she had forgotten long ago and her taken name had changed with the years. Every culture in the world had a different name for who or what she was. But in the old land they called her Blood Raven.

She had come the the old country with her tribe and had lived with the land, caring for it and giving it back what they took. When her tribe discovered she had magic they named her their priestess and she was apprenticed to the old mage. The old 'mage' new nothing of magic, he was a fool and a fake and the Blood Magic he taught her took hold and shaped her in ways that had never been seen.
The Blood Magic was a form of Sensitive magic but with farther reaching consequences than any magic that had come before or since. She learnt it and with the passing of the years she became one of the most powerful mages in the world.
A single drop of a person's blood would tell her every thought and feeling they had ever felt. She lived and breathed in the blood of her people. They wished to know the future and she would tell them. They did not like what they heard. The blood sustained her and fed her and she became dependant on it. For many years she wandered from tribe to tribe feeding off the blood of the people. In time she became powerful enough to see into people's souls, with a taste of their blood their True Name would be revealed to her. After all, Blood is the currency of the soul...
Then THEY came, the white people, with their guns and their destruction. They destroyed her people and as their blood soaked into the ground Blood Raven could feel the pain, destruction and suffering of her people. And she was angry...

She went to them one night, she saw the encampment and decided that they would pay for their crimes. They did and dearly. She wiped them out singlehandedly. She drank their blood and felt their souls, twisted dark things, suffering and she realised that she was no better than them. She left her country then and has wandered ever since... she buys her passage in fortunes across the lands and for those few that wish to know she drinks their blood. During her travels She wandered through Europe but found that the blood of uncountable souls had soaked the Earth there and she moved on. She has settled in a country with a short and bloody history but it gives her respite from the pain.
She still tells fortunes but there are few that dare to approach her for fear of what she can do...
She lives in a small cottage next to the sea in National Parkland somewhere in NSW...

Anyways I hope you like her, she's my favourite. So yeah thats about it.

I hope this entry isn't to late it's an hour away from midnight so...
His name is lonesome morgue. He is a sensitive who's particular branch of,well, sensitiveness is that he can speak to the dead. He is pale with lank black hair and his Iris's are so dark that they blend with his pupils to becom bottomless pits. His cheeks are hollow and his wiry build reminds you of an overgrown stick insect. He spends most if his times in cemetery's and morgues but fit some reason he prefers pet cemetery's . He feels he can connect m

My post continued ... As I was saying he prefers pet cemetery's because he feels he connect on a greater emotional level with animals rather than people( particularly hamsters but thats another story) as you can probably guess he doesn't have a very wide social circle. He has connections in the necromancy temples but as I said he's not the most sociable of people so he's never used them. He drones on a lot (kind of like I'm doing) and has a thin nasaly voice. I can't really think of what else I need to tell you I'm leaving it open for whatever tweaking or adding, if you chose this entry, that you see fit. Oh was I meant to tell you that I live in new Zealand ? Well I guess I am now so yes I am from nz

Shyla Arcadia is a 16 years old Irish girl, and is a natural Adept with her specialty, telepathy(a sensitive). She has been an orhpan since birth, and when she was 11 she found out about the magical world. Since then she trained herself in telepathy at the orphanage, and wants to learn elemental magic(she can't as far as she knows, but really wants to). This is why she admires Skulduggery Pleasant so much, and treats Valkyrie like the little sister she was never able to have. She is quite shy in public, but is very conident and loud when with her friends. She is shorter than Valkyrie, which makes people think she is much younger than Valkyrie. She has very dark brown curly and frizzy hair that gets lighter through the layers, ending with blond streaks(all her hair is natural). She has entrancing blue-green eyes, which stand out on the pale face. She wears only black all the time, which makes her seem like a shadow when sh's completely covered, or a ghost when she's partially clothes because of her pale skin. She has many secrets that no one knows about, and keeps secrets well because torture doesn't work on her.

Anyways this is probably my last character. :)

I hereby give my Golden God Derek Landy permission to use this character in his brain explodingly brilliant work.

I got the idea for her after I read about the Jitter Girls (They were creepy) and Anton Shudder's gist. I've also always loved the name and idea in Greek Mythology.

So her name is Pandora Kako
She's incredibly vain and mischievous. She has black hair and one green eye and one blue. She's about as old as China (however old that is) and is a rival in beauty. But she keeps herself under the radar she knows that a lot of people would try to kill her to get their hands on her magic.

She took her insperation for her adapt ability from the Antient Greek mythology of Pandora's box. When she was young she had a box forged for her out of her blood and fears. It had to be strong enough to contain the evils in the world. And then she set to train, she had to be strong enough to collect them. So she set out and over the years ammassed her own evil thoughts, feelings and acts. When she had enough of her own she started to use them to collect others. She is the only person that can contain the evil that escapes and the only person that can force it back into the box again.
Her magic sounds like it does good but not everything in this world is made up of magical unicorns and rainbows which is why a person becomes dangerously unbalanced if their evil is taken away from them. They always say that every person has the same amount of good and evil in them and that it is the choice to use either that defines a person. Pandora's magic is dangerous because it takes that choice away and most of the people become gibbering idiots when the essence of their evil is taken from them.
Her box is one of the most powerful weapon's on the planet but is only known to a very few select people, namely the gibbering idiots.
She can disappear without a trace and has few enemies and even fewer friends.
If she hears about a person evil enough to be turned into a gibbering idiot she will do it but she tries not to interfere. Her box is becoming a ticking time bomb and the evil she has amassed would have devastating consequences on the world, mostly that everyone would be consumed and destroyed in a giant rolling wave of evil.

So yeah, thats it! :) I really hope you use one of my characters but if you don't I'm sure you'll pick someones who deserve it more than mine do!

Happy New Year My Landy! May next year bring more awesome Skulduggery AWESOMENESS!!!

Chow! :)

Last minute entries are always fun with fingers tapping rapidly as if in flight across my keyboard. Yes, great fun. Anyway, onto my entry...

I hereby give my Golden God, Derek Landy, full rights to take this character and adapt it into his brain-explodingly brilliant work (that I hooked a bunch of my friends to).

Taken Name: Yasuo (Ya-sue-oh, Japanese meaning tranquil/calm) Incognito (because it has Italian/Latin origin)

Power: Elemental incorporated into his mixed martial arts of aikido and a type of Italian staff fighting

Appearance: Looks to be in his early-mid thirties but is really 127 years old. Black hair that is slicked straight back in the 1920’s-30’s style (similar to that in the Godfather). Has 5 o’clock shadow (lightly unshaven). Piercing green eyes, thanks to his Italian father, that are framed by lightly slanted sockets. Towers in at 183 cm which adds to his accidental intimidation image, yet is slim and not overly muscular. Constantly wears an ankle length well taken care of black leather jacket or a tan detective type coat, no matter the weather, along with a waistcoat. Owns a large quantity of them in a variety of colours, including neon, which he is very fond and proud of. Generally wears dark brown steel toed work boots for work. Off his belt hangs his weapon; a collapsible 60 cm metal staff. Dons a pair of fireproof gloves, red on his right hand and black on his left, when he fights in hand to hand combat to encase his hands in fire and burn his opponents. When he is finally at home after a long job, he will slip into track pants or his old pair of jeans (which ever he can find first) and a plain shirt then will chill out on his couch with a nice cold drink and possibly his daughter, Rain Incognito (taken name).

Personality: Often seen as unapproachable because he rarely talks but when he does, it sounds much more authoritative and nasty than he intends. Takes a while to get to know him but it is worth the effort for he is a great ally to have at ones side because of his vast knowledge of tactics from his travels and quick thinking. However, Yasuo can become a bit of a control freak when under a great amount of stress while in charge or is lacking a minimum of 3 days sleep. It is hard to tell when Yasuo is being sarcastic because his words say sarcasm but his tone stays as flat as a steamrolled pancake. Usually not a very expressive person, but loves a good laugh and often chuckles at others’ insults towards him because of how lame or true they can be. Yasuo has a very soft nature at times which can be seen when he tends to his plants or catching up with his adopted daughter, Rain Incognito (taken name). Also this gentler side of him comes with a certain impulsivity that lead to the somewhat loner to adopt Rain. Yasuo refuses to give any reason as to why he took in the girl when asked, pressured, interrogated and nagged by anyone and everyone, he simply smiles gazes off into the distance with a warm smile. In other words, he ignores them. Maybe. You can never be entirely sure about anything with this guy. Except if you’re Rain but it is unlikely that’ll she’ll tell you anything either.

M Lee said...

Background Info: Born to an Italian father and Japanese mother, Yasuo’s childhood was an interesting one with trips often made between Europe and Japan because of his father’s profession as a merchant and a delegate between some European and Asian Sanctuaries. Yasuo is the middle child with an elder brother and clingy little sister. All three siblings joined the war when it broke out, with Yasuo and his brother joining the battle and his sister becoming a nurse/medic. As Yasuo’s experience grew in the war, he was shifted from being a soldier to a part of the reconnaissance/assassination team and often worked in a small group or alone. For a short period after the war, Yasuo continued to try and find those who had escaped capture when the war was over and took up the job as a bounty hunter which let him scrap by in life. During a search of a war criminal’s base, he discovers an unconscious young girl, dripping in fresh and scabbing blood, amongst various missing artefacts of the magical community. The child reminded him of a long black haired Kokeshi doll his sister received as a gift from their mother and, without thinking, Yasuo slipped the ghostly girl over his shoulder and attempted to escape the moonlit house. Frankly, things didn’t go well. Yasuo encountered his target, managing to escape half alive with the girl, more or less, unharmed. She woke while Yasuo was speeding away in his car and stubbornly remained by his side as his wounds were tended to after they arrived at the Sanctuary. Yasuo was able to bring her along with him when he left the Sanctuary. Not long after their meeting, Yasuo quit being a bounty hunter and decided to freelance with Sanctuaries around the world. The duo travel around in the Midnight Hotel to reach different places.

Oh yes and Happy New Year Derek!

I'm from Australia, so female character. Her name is Aelodrea Leone, English girl with long blonde hair (like taniths, but always in a pony-tail) and green eyes, orphan of the War, so magical background, but when her parents died, she was too young to know this and as nobody wanted her was sent to a mortal orphanage. She was a convict sent to Australia when she was 12 (stole a shrubbery) so born 1700's-1800's. When she was 17 she killed a guard that would beat her using warlock magic (she was born gifted in it just like Fletcher is with teleporting). the guards were going to kill her, but she was saved by a warlock who had come to Australia by choice, and had much power over the man who Aelodrea worked for.
He taught her how to use her powers and she quickly became stronger, until one night she decided her lessons were over and killed her master and absorbed his energy, then taking a ship back to England.
(I know this is up to you) In my mind, she isn't evil, but is no where near moral either. she respects power and craves it for herself. I was thinking that she could be one of the other warlocks that the assassin mentioned (or a rogue who just kills to prove she's better and to gain more power), who tries to kill Skullduggery, and either escapes or acknowledges his power and serves him instead (possibly betraying him at some point).
She carries no ranged weapons, but does have a single sacrificial dagger, that she took from her master.

Hayley Skirmish

Appearance- 17, Athletic build, Taller than average. Wears a leather jacket at all times. Blue eyes. Her hair is brown with blondes streaks. Has perfectly white teeth. Wears scuffed jeans. Never wears shoes. Is strong and has boxing training, but fights like Tanith most of the time.

Magic- The ability to run up walls and and upside down. She can also flip with ease. Basically her magic is and combination of Tanith's and Springheeled Jack's.

Personality- Has very strong opinions, and you can't change what she believes in. Always says what she thinks, regardless of how other will respond. She is Australian and has an Aussie accent. She is good, but is involved in a feud against the Aussie Sanctuary, because she's a bit like a modern Robin Hood.

She always has her Mark 23 handgun inside her jacket and drives a Suzuki Hayabusa.

Hayley looked over her shoulder, clutching a cloaking sphere. She was running through the back streets of Sydney away from the Chifley Tower. She dodged trashcans, jumped dumpsters and sidestepped pedestrians. She sprinted into an empty alley and hid in the shadows. She saw the Cleavers walk into the alley. There were three of them. It was only thanks to her sheer speed that she was here and not in shackles. She knew this alley like the back of her hand. She silently stepped up onto the loose brick in the wall behind her. With out a sound, she stood on the dumpster next to her. She ran off and jumped, and ran up the wall whistling all the while. When she reached the top of the building she looked down and laughed at the Cleavers. Hayley twisted the cloaking sphere on. As the bubble encased her she sang with joy. Without a care in the world she flipped across the top of Sydney. She was headed for Lavender Bay. She jumped off a building rolled just as the cloaking sphere clicked off. She walked casually across the Harbour Bridge. She stopped halfway across and looked over the edge. She checked the area around her. There was no one there. She grabbed the railing and vaulted over the edge. She gripped the underside of the bridge with her left hand and pulled on the harness she had installed with her right. She clicked the harness on and slid towards North Sydney.

She dropped off the bottom of the Harbour Bridge and got a ferry to Lavender Bay. She hopped off the ferry and strolled down the beach. She then ran up one of the rock ledges and lay down and waited for her employer to arrive. Soon enough she saw shadows gather and Conner Sickle stepped out. Connor Sickle had black hair, black skin and absolutely no muscle whatsoever. He was tall and skinny. However the item he channelled his magic into made him quite scary. A sickle. Unfortunately the effect created by the sickle died as soon as he spoke with that nasal voice of his.
‘Do you have it?’ He asked, in earnest. Hayley took the cloaking sphere out of her leather jacket and held it.
‘My payment?’ She said lazily. He reached into his pocket and waved it.
‘Got it. Now give me that.’ He said. Haley shook her head.
‘Doesn’t work like that, buster. Give me the cash.’ Conner frowned and gave her the money. She counted it and smiled.
‘It’s been nice doing business with you sir.’ She said bowing. She twisted the cloaking sphere and flipped into the tree behind her. She grinned. She may have done some bad stuff, but she didn’t work with necromancers. She dropped back to the ground and threw a rock in the trees. She then ran in the other direction laughing. What a sucker. She was heading back to the Sanctuary for a ‘special meeting’. Of course, she would be giving them their toy back. For a price. She stopped next to her motorbike, a Suzuki Hayabusa. She swung her leg over the seat. She had gotten her licence long before any of her friends, because she chose a bike over a car. She revved and drove away.

Sparky Braginski said...

Twenty minutes later Hayley parked in the very bottom floor of the Chifley Tower. This place gave her the creeps. It made you feel like all of Sydney could be flattened and you would never know. She walked to the staircase and pressed one of the bricks. A second set of stairs opened. She walked down them and saw Skulduggery Pleasant waiting. She pulled out her Mark 23 in a flash and had it trained on Skulduggery.
‘Hello Hayley. How long has it been?’ Skulduggery said cheerfully. Hayley scowled.
‘Seven months. How have you been?’ She clicked the safety off. Skulduggery waved his hand and the gun flew out of Hayley’s grip.
‘Fine now that there isn’t a gun pointed at me. And you?’ Skulduggery said.
‘Great. I’m on the list if you were wondering.’ Skulduggery stepped out of her way. She picked up her gun and hurried past Skulduggery. She sat in the lobby, wondering why he had come back to Australia. Hopefully not to settle old scores. She shuddered. Eventually Hayley got called into the Hall of the Elders.
‘Elder Opine, Elder Utter and Grand Mage Astute have arrived. Please wait inside.’ The Administrator said in her hideously nasal voice. Hayley smiled and walked in.
‘Welcome Hayley. I believe you have something that belongs to us.’ Astute said. Astute had cropped grey hair and only smiled when Hayley was around. Hayley was the only person who fooled with him.
‘Sorry Burritt, I need to pay the rent don’t I?’ She said sweetly. Utter shook her head.
‘Skirmish, you know the rules. You must address us by our titles.’ Utter scolded. Utter was short and blonde. And unpleasant, from Hayley’s point of view.
‘Fine. Sorry Grand Mage Burritt Astute, I need to pay the rent don’t I?’ She glared at Utter.
‘Better Elder Arianna Utter?’ She spat out. Arianna did not like Hayley. Hayley did not like Arianna. Hayley reckoned that Arianna focused on the fact that Hayley stole from the Sanctuary on a regular basis rather than the fact that Hayley always stole the thing back and returned it to the Sanctuary within a week. Hayley was a freelance, and that’s all Utter ever saw. But she wasn’t just a freelance. She was well-behaved one. Hayley thought Arianna was smart, but not clever. She missed the big things and went on first impressions. Hayley remembered how they had met. Hayley had been running out of the Sanctuary and had run into her. In retrospect it was not her best intro.
‘Here it is, I used it twice, but it should still be fine.’ Hayley said, tossing the cloaking sphere at Opine. He caught it, fumbled and eventually got it still.
‘This is a very important piece of equipment Skirmish. Do not throw it around willy-nilly.’ Opine snarled. Gosh, he didn’t like her either. Maybe it was because she insisted on calling him Elder Jerry. She also knew that he couldn’t catch.
‘I wasn’t throwing it willy-nilly. I threw it at you. That’s hardly willy-nilly.’ She grinned. Burritt smiled as well.

Sparky Braginski said...

‘Thank you for returning it so quickly. I take it you didn’t need to steal it back.’ Burritt said. Hayley nodded.
‘I don’t work for necromancers. I got the money and came back.’
‘So you stiffed him?’
‘Basically. Why are we having this meeting anyway? Normally I just return it.’
Burritt frowned. That was an astoundingly bad sign.

‘You want me to do what?’ Hayley cried. Utter and Opine were smiling.
‘We want you to steal from the necromancer temple, and bring the item here.’ Astute said. Hayley shook her head.
‘That’s not what I’m worried about. You want me to become a Sanctuary theft agent?’
They all nodded. She paced. She stopped.
‘Sanctuary approved everything? No offence, but where’s the fun?’
‘What about the stealing bit? That’s the fun for you. So please steal this item.’ Burritt said. Hayley sighed.
‘Who am I stealing from?’ She asked. Opine checked a file.
‘Connor Sickle.’
‘Oh no.’ Hayley groaned.
‘Why?’
‘I just stiffed him. If he sees me, I’m dead.’ Burritt grimaced, Utter smiled and Opine winced. They explained what Hayley was supposed to do, and she wasn’t going to do a thing of it. Burritt knew this, but Utter and Opine were none the wiser. Hayley thanked them and walked out of the Sanctuary meeting Skulduggery again. This time his gun was out first.
‘Please don’t point that at me. I’m not in the greatest of moods right now.’
‘What’s wrong?’ He asked, putting the gun away.
‘They want me to work for the Sanctuary. I’m doing a job for them now.’
‘Why is that a bad thing? I work for the Sanctuary, it’s fun, I get to punch people and they don’t get to punch me.’
‘But I just stole from this guy. If he sees me, I’m finished.’ She grumbled.
‘Want me to help? I’m supposed to be on vacation, but this sounds like fun. Who are you stealing from?’
‘Connor Sickle. Necromancer. I just took cash from him without giving him the item he payed for. Bad news all round.’ She looked at him. He nodded.
‘Well, what are we waiting for?’ As he walked towards the exit.

Hayley thought as she drove towards the cemetery. The plan was that she would infiltrate the temple, find the item and leave. Simple right? Wrong. The problem was what they wanted to be stolen. They wanted Connor’s sickle. That would undoubtedly make him angry. What’s the point in being Connor Sickle without a Sickle? She revved down the street with Skulduggery’s Bentley next to her. Occasionally he wound down the window and they chatted.

Sparky Braginski said...

‘So you know where the cemetery is?’ Skulduggery asked.
‘Yeah, I’ve been there.’ She swerved into a driveway and Skulduggery followed, hot on her tail. She slowed down and drove to what looked like a very old public toilet. She parked , got off and beckoned for Skulduggery to hurry up. He opened the Bentley door and snapped a twig on the ground as he stepped out. Hayley scowled back and put a finger to her lips. He nodded and floated over. Hayley’s eyes widened. That was new. She then pulled the cloaking sphere out of her jacket and twisted it on.
‘Since when could you fly?’ She asked.
‘When did you get that?’
‘The Cloaking Sphere?’ She grinned, ‘I was meant to be returning it to the Sanctuary when I was assigned to this job. I’d already returned it, but I took it again.’
‘Very well. Where’s the cemetery?’ He asked.
‘Look around.’ She replied. Skulduggery looked around and saw gravestones in the undergrowth. The walked through the cemetery being perfectly quiet even though the Cloaking Sphere was protecting them. Hayley walked up to the crypt at the edge of the graveyard. She then took a key out of her pocket.
‘What’s that?’ Skulduggery asked.
‘A key.’
‘I can see that. It appears to be a key to the crypt. How did you get it?’
‘I stole it.’
‘From?’
‘Connor Sickle. I saw him earlier today. I thought a key to the Necromancer Temple would be useful.’ She mumbled as she unlocked the door. There was a necromancer standing in front of the door. Hayley froze. Skulduggery tapped her shoulder.
‘Cloaking Sphere.’ He said pointing at the ball.
‘How long do we have?’ She asked. He looked at the Sphere and held up two gloved fingers. Not sure whether it was minutes or seconds she quickly hide against the wall. She saw that she was correct to hide as Skulduggery floated above the door.
‘Who’s there? This door didn’t open by itself. Show yourselves!’ The necromancer shouted, walking outside and looking around. Skulduggery landed inside the Temple without a sound. Hayley walked into the room on the ceiling. She walked above him into the main hall. She hopped onto the ground next to Skulduggery and they nodded to each other, pulled their handguns out and walked against opposite walls. Skulduggery peeked around the corner and nodded to Hayley. She padded across the hall and plastered herself to the new wall. Skulduggery walked into the corridor and walked into a room. He beckoned her in.

Sparky Braginski said...

They walked back out of the room wearing black robes. They walked around looking carefully at each of the necromancers that they passed until Hayley elbowed Skulduggery and turned around.
‘Are you sure that’s him?’ He whispered.
‘Positive.’ They walked behind him and followed him into a room. He turned around.
‘What are you doing in here?’ He asked irritably. Hayley took her hood off.
‘You?! What are you doing here?’ He asked, his face turning red. Skulduggery took his hood off. Hayley held out the Cloaking Sphere. Connor grabbed for it. Hayley took it back.
‘Trade.’ She said. Sickle looked at both of them.
‘What are we trading?’
‘This is the problem. You aren’t going to trade. We already know that, so it’s a matter of skipping to the bit where we hit you.’ Skulduggery said. Connor paled.
‘What do you want to trade?’ He whimpered.
‘The Cloaking Sphere, for your sickle.’ Hayley said. Connor looked at her.
‘What? Why do you want my sickle?’
‘I don’t want it. But I need to take it.’
‘Fine. Take it.’ Connor said, shoving the sickle forward. Hayley and Skulduggery stepped back instinctively.
‘What’s wrong? You asked for it, I’m going to give it to you.’ He said. They stared at him.
‘Why are you giving to us without a fight?’ Hayley asked warily.
‘Because I need the Cloaking Sphere.’ Hayley looked at the Cloaking Sphere and punched Connor’s nose as hard as she could. He stumbled back, blood streaming from his nose.
‘What was that for?!’ He exclaimed.
‘Because I need the Cloaking Sphere.’
Then why did you offer it to me?!’ He exclaimed. Hayley shrugged.
‘I dunno. It seemed like a good idea at the time.’ Hayley said. Connor scowled.
‘Well, my nose hurts. Please don’t hit me again. You can take my sickle and the Cloaking Sphere if I can have my money back.’ He mumbled. Hayley grinned and took the sickle out of his hand.
‘Lets go.’ She said to Skulduggery.
‘This went nicely. Good-bye Mr Sickle. I hope to never meet you again.’ Skulduggery said cheerily. They walked out the room into a group of rather angry looking necromancers.
‘Oh.’ Hayley said.
‘Ah.’ Skulduggery murmured.
‘We’ll just be leaving now.’ Hayley smiled. The necromancers laughed. She sighed and jumped, snaking both of her legs out and kicking to of the necromancers. Skulduggery snapped his palms outwards and the necromancers were thrown backwards.

Sparky Braginski said...

‘As I said, we’ll just be leaving now.’ Hayley said again. She turned and sprinted towards the exit Skulduggery at her side. They ran out into the darkness. Hayley flipped onto her bike and revved it. She watched Skulduggery dive into the Bentley and turn it on. As they drove away Hayley frowned. That had been far easier than anticipated.

‘You got it?’ Opine said, clearly annoyed about something. Hayley ignored him and handed the sickle to Burritt. Burritt smiled and beckoned Hayley closer.
She leaned in.
‘Yes Burritt?’ She asked.
‘Hayley, I need you to leave.’ He said. She frowned.
‘Why?’ She whispered. He flicked his eyes at the ceiling and she nodded.
‘Yes Grand Mage. I’ll get right onto it.’ She said loudly. She turned and walked out, grabbing Skulduggery on the way.
‘We are going up.’ She said to him firmly. Skulduggery cocked his head, but didn’t argue.

The walked outside the Chifley Tower and Hayley got out the Cloaking Sphere again. That thing was really handy. She twisted it and watched the bubble expand around Skulduggery and herself.
‘Ready?’ She asked him.
‘What exactly are we doing anyway?’
‘Burritt told me to meet him on the roof.’
‘This roof?’ He said pointing up.
‘What other roof?’ She laughed and started running up the side of the Chifley Tower. Skulduggery whistled and flew up after her. Skulduggery landed as Hayley reached the top. There was a silhouette on the rooftop. Hayley nodded to Skulduggery and pulled out her gun. Skulduggery did the same.
‘Who is it?’ The silhouette called.
‘Skulduggery Pleasant and Hayley Skirmish. Who are you?’ Skulduggery called.
‘Yes it is.’ Hayley replied.
‘Names are not the concern of dead people Miss Skirmish.’
‘I’m not dead.’ Hayley scowled.
‘Yes you are.’
‘Nope, I’m still kicking.’ She said sensing a trap. She ducked and flipped backwards. There was someone waiting.
‘Damn. She jumped. Where’d you go you little b-‘
‘Now that isn’t very nice language is it?’ She smiled. This was the fun bit. She jumped in front of him again, turning in mid-air so that she landed acing him. She then grabbed his head and brought her knee up to meet his chin. He yelled and stumbled backwards. Hayley quickly darted behind him and kept him from falling off the building. She then whacked the back of his head with the butt of the gun. She smiled as his head hit the ground with a satisfying crack.

Sparky Braginski said...

She looked up and saw Skulduggery throwing flame at his two assailants. Wait… Two? Hayley attempted to flip but someone grabbed her ankle and brought her back down to the floor. She tried to raise her arms to protect her head but only succeeded in hitting her elbows against the ground and her head against it harder. She saw stars and felt her self being held upside down. She opened her eyes and felt sick. She looked down at the ground and quickly figured out that she was being held over the edge of the building. This was bad. She gripped the mans wrist with her feet, twisted and heard the mans wrist crack. He yelped and dropped her. She swore and felt another hand around her ankle. She looked up and saw a gloved hand pulling her up.
‘Thanks.’ Hayley breathed. Skulduggery pulled her onto the roof, and grabbed his gun off the ground. Hayley did the same and they both shoot at each of the men. They fell to the ground and stayed there.
‘That’s the last of them. Time to go.’ Skulduggery called.
‘Then what are we waiting for?’ Skulduggery grabbed her waist and they flew away from the Chifley Tower.

Hayley leaned against the railing on the Harbour Bridge and thought. Why had Burritt sent her up there? They were friends weren’t they? She didn’t know anymore. Skulduggery appeared next to her with a boy who had stupid hair.
‘Are you coming Hayley?’ Skulduggery asked. She looked over her shoulder and nodded. They teleported and immediately got showered in rain. Hayley sighed. Ireland. This was certainly going to be interesting.

I hereby give my Golden God, Derek Landy, full rights to take this character and adapt it into his brain-explodingly brilliant work.

Sparky Braginski!

Magic- Sparky can make electricity stream out of her fingers, she can make it crackle around her hands so that when she punches someone they get electrocuted, if she claps a powerful shockwave throws everything in every direction off their feet but often hurts Sparky more than the enemy, can make fireworks to distract the dumber opponents such as zombies, can make electricity run through her bloodstream making her run faster, when she is aggravated in a large crowd of people she can punch the ground sending a ripple of energy in every direction sending everyone except Sparky herself flying off their feet, if she splays her hands a weak wave of electricity can jumble brainwaves and send people into confusion she loves doing this in crowded shopping centres during Christmas season for some unknown reason, and the ability to manipulate people.

Appearance- Same 3/4 length jacket as Val's first one, cargo pants, t-shirt colours always red or green or black. Long straight brown hair. Freckles. Freakishly pale skin. Short. Hazel eyes.

Background- Has known about herself being magic at a young age, but unable to find anyone else with magic has trained herself. Was always interested in electricity, thus using that interest to her advantage and very recently (with Fletcher Renn's help) gotten into LOTS of trouble. Entailing, she's been kidnapped four times. Even though she is VERY Australian, she has a Russian/Irish accent with hints of English and Welsh.

Behaviour- Gets angry easily, but takes a lot to make her show it. She is normally good-natured, but can fly into a rage at a moments notice if you aren't paying attention. Often has excellent ideas. Never gives in ever. Will always bring something up at the worst times.

Wears a belt, with Makhaira hanging quite obviously from her waist.

Sparky is thirteen, as mentioned in the story. That is all.

Also Sparky has...

Well, y'know FEARS...

Deathly afraid of spiders and *hides head in shame* being *mumbles something*

Everyone else: What?

Being tickled, okay? It renders Sparky completely useless and that scares her more than anything else in the world. Really.

*runs into near by nursery and takes as many shrubs as possible*

Shop Owner: You can't take those.
Sparky: Oh uh... *looks into shop owners eyes* You are letting me take these so that I can give them to the worlds most honourable cause. Making Derek-The-Golden-God-Landy love me and use Sparky(ME!) as a character.
S.O: KK.

When wet Sparky has a tendency to shock herself out of lack of control. When she is wet she can't touch anything because she shocks it by accident, and turning any electrical appliance on while she is wet makes all the plugs/power points in the room blow up. Sparky swears only when she does something incredibly stupid. Sparky always has her hair tied up. It varies as to how, but her hair is ALWAYS tied up. She has uncannily good balance naturally. Another thing is that Sparky is always twitching or fiddling with something. Speaking of explosions, Sparky makes pebbles explode when she's bored. I also keep forgetting about this crucial part of my appearance. Sparky is ALWAYS wearing a scarf. Always. It changes colours, styles and patterns, but she is ALWAYS wearing a scarf. She wears one to bed, to meals, to the theatre. She never takes them off.

Catchphrase: 'I'm ready. Are you?' (with sly grin)

Sparky Braginski looked up. She was hanging from the ceiling by magic- binding cuffs and it was a long way down. She saw her captor walk into the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall. She was unfortunately hanging in the middle of the ceiling, so that if she did manage to escape the cuffs, she would land on some very unfriendly concrete. She was up so high she couldn’t see her captors face, but she could hear him.
‘How are you up there Sparky?’
‘You took my sword.’
‘So I did. I am not going to give it back, and as you are not in a position to negotiate with your words or your fists, I recommend you answer the question. So how are you?’ Sparky gritted her teeth, knowing that the man was right.
‘If you must know, my wrists hurt I’m losing circulation in my hands and feet, and I’m wondering how Fletcher Renn managed to talk me into going to that party.’ She answered, irritably. She looked down at the man, trying to see his face but she was to high up.
‘Party? I read your files and you hate parties.’
‘I do hate parties, loud music, too many people and obnoxious people at that.’ Sparky blew at some hair that kept falling on her face.
‘Look, I get the whole, “kidnap me” routine, but why have you chained me here?’ She asked.
‘Simple,’ He replied, ‘the last time someone kidnapped you, you saw their face. This time, no one’s here.’ He sneered. Sparky hated it when people sneered at her. It meant they thought they were better than her, and in this case, smarter than her. But she wasn’t going to let that title slip away without a fight. She watched the man leave the room. Why did she go to that damned party? If she ever managed to escape she was going to, to, well she would do something to Fletcher. As she hung there, Sparky looked around the room again and saw the organ. If she could just get near it. She looked up at how the cuffs were attached to the ceiling, and saw that, if she could rock her body, the cuffs would slide her towards the organ, much like a flying fox at a playground. Sparky swung towards the organ with all her might. Unfortunately it was more oiled than she expected, and Sparky speed towards the organ. She hit it and bounced off. Wincing in pain she swung at it again. This time she managed to grip the top of one of the pipes with her foot. As she steady herself she grinned, almost two hours, she’d been hanging up there, waiting for someone to come in to check if she was still there. Now that they thought that they knew where Sparky was she could make her escape. In those two hours of waiting, it hadn’t taken her long to realise that the shackles were way to big for her, and that with little effort she could slip her hands out. She dropped carefully onto the organ and shimmed down far to slowly for her liking. As she dropped to the floor she felt magic returning, and it was a welcome feeling. She tested her magic, yes; electricity could still stream from her fingers. She crouched and decided that before she left she needed to make sure that no one was guarding the doors.

She sat down thinking that maybe those piano lessons had done something for her in later life and slammed her hands on every key of the organ within reach. She heard a shout from behind the main doors and darted into the nearest room.

Sparky Braginski said...

She then crept out into the foyer and was about to leave when she remembered her sword.
‘Damn it all.’ She mumbled. She turned, looked up and nearly walked into a man that was guarding a door. She braced herself for when he saw her and sounded an alarm. But he wasn’t moving. Gazing at the back of his head she backed away and was about to walk away when he turned and saw her. A year ago he would’ve yelled and she would’ve jumped. But not now. She looked straight into his eyes and said
‘You cannot see me. I am not here. Turn around.’ The man strained and turned. Sparky walked towards the main exit looking for any rooms that her sword might be in. Sparky sighed knowing she wouldn’t be able to leave her sword behind and walked back into the foyer. As she was walking she heard something whimpering, she followed where it was coming from. It was coming from one of the bars and as she peered over the edge and a man was sitting there with his eyes glued shut, practically wetting himself with fear.
‘Please don’t kill me.’ He sobbed. Sparky sighed. Why did everyone think she was going to kill them? She was a thirteen-year-old girl for god’s sake. She hit people, she had disabled one person and broken a couple bones, but she didn’t kill anyone. She vaulted over the bar and landed in front of the man.
‘I’m not going to kill you.’ She said trying to make her voice soothing. The man opened his eyes and they widened in shock. His mouth opened wide to yell but Sparky clapped her hand over his mouth. When his facial expression was a little calmer Sparky put a finger to her lips.
‘Are you okay?’ He nodded. ‘Are you sure?’ He nodded. ‘If I take my hand off you face are you going to call for help?’ He shook his head madly. She looked dead into his eyes. ‘Are you lying to me?’ The man tore her hand away from his mouth and frantically whispered, ‘Why would I lie? I just as confused as you are!’ He clamped his own hands over his mouth and shut up.
‘Okay one, that was astoundingly stupid and two, I know exactly what’s going on.’ She snapped. ‘Who are you anyway?’ She asked.
‘Who am I? I own this establishment. And I a-‘ Sparky shushed him. He looked offended but he stayed quiet.
‘Look, there isn’t much time. I have three questions. Do you know why these men took me here?’ He shook his head. ‘Do you know who they are?’ He shook his head again. ‘Last question, Do you know where they are in here?’ At this he nodded.
‘I know where they are, yes, but I’m not going back there.’ He shivered at the thought. Sparky felt bad about what she was about to do, but she didn’t have a choice. She looked deep into the man’s eyes. She saw fear. She was about to change that.
‘Sir, you need to get up. Now.’ He stood up, this poor mortal didn’t stand a chance. ‘You are going to lead me to where they are.’ He only faltered for a split second and then started walking. She followed him into a secret room. He turned around snapping out of the trance.
‘How did we get here?’ He asked. Sparky was about to answer when he bolted. She shrugged turned and entered he room. It was empty, but her sword and her phone were lying on the table. She picked up the sword first and inspected it. Her sword was a Makhaira, too long to be a knife and too short to be a sword. Good for all kinds of things. Stabbing, slicing and lopping.

Sparky Braginski said...

Sparky herself hardly ever used the thing, but she loved it, kept it close and she knew how to use it. The one time she had used the sword it was against a fully-grown man who had been using his sword for almost 150 years. She had been using her sword for two years. She beat him. When people marveled at her for her fancy footwork with her Makhaira she merely shrugged, not wanting to be a show-off. She picked up her phone and saw that Fletcher had called her fifteen times. She called him and told him where she was. Suddenly a hand gripped her shoulder. She whirled thinking that it was one of the thugs but when she turned there was no one there. That cocky voice came from behind her.
‘Why so jumpy? You called me, I came. That’s normally how it works. That’s how it worked with Val anyway.’ She looked at him, fuming.
‘Just take me somewhere else so I can yell at you without getting attacked.’ Fletcher complied taking her too a park near her old school that was completely empty. Then she exploded.
‘Fletcher Renn you are in somuch trouble right now.’ She yelled. ‘I have been so tolerant of you. Listening to your incredibly interesting stories almost made it worth it. Until today, that is. Someone kidnapped me. Kidnapped, Fletcher, they kidnapped me. Th-‘
Fletcher cut across her. ‘You’ve been kidnapped twice before, and you never freaked out this much.’ She slapped him, hard.
‘Be thankful I didn’t shock you as well porcupine. The last two times, I escaped easily because my captors were morons. This time I was hanging from the freaking ceiling of the Concert Hall! In magic-binding cuffs! If the person who had cuffed me was more observant I would still be there!’ She cried. Fletcher smiled, not taken Sparky seriously.
‘She’ll came down in a sec.’ He thought. Sparky saw him smiling. She opened her mouth to scream in frustration, closed her mouth without making a sound, looked at Fletcher long and hard and ran away. Fletcher watched blur away, marveling how fast she could run with a little, magic running through her blood-streams. He saw stop behind a tree, lean against it and curl into a ball, rocking back and forth lightly. He decided it would be safer to his health if he walked up, giving Sparky a couple minutes to calm down. As he walked up he noted the complete silence. Sparky sat there, wondering why no one could tell when she was being sincere. Was it because she was young? No, it couldn’t be, her school friends didn’t take her seriously. Because she was short? Possibly… Fletcher was almost with Sparky. He could see her brown hair, and pale skin. He grinned, thinking about how happy he’d made her. He was about to ask how she was but faltered. He could hear something. He looked around, but the only person other than him was Sparky. But that couldn’t be right, because he was hearing sobbing. Then it hit him. Sparky was crying. She didn’t cry, she never cried. He’d seen her break an arm and she didn’t cry. She didn’t cry when she found out that her pet lizard had been eating by bush turkeys. Sparky didn’t cry. He had no idea how to respond, but he had to do something. He crouched in front of her, and lifted her chin. Her face was red and wet from her crying, but her eyes were completely different. Her eyes weren’t sad or scared. They were angry. She was practically in a rage. Fletcher thought it would be best to think very carefully.
‘Sparky? Are you okay?’ He asked, tentatively. Sparky looked up at him. She then scowled.

Sparky Braginski said...

‘Do you think I’m okay? Really? Does it actually need to be asked? Are you actually that stupid?’ Fletcher was taken aback.
‘I just meant-‘
‘Fletcher I don’t care what you meant. Just go away.’ Fletcher tried to say something.
Piss off Fletcher!’ She screamed. She stood up. Now she was in a rage.
Fletcher Renn! This is all your fault! Now GO AWAY!’ Fletcher hesitated. Then disappeared.

Sparky sat there thinking for a couple minutes, then got up and stretched. She now really regretted treating Fletcher like that, but what could she do? She called him. He picked up on the third ring.
‘Fletcher, I’m sorry, okay? I’ve just been really stressed and-‘ She started.
‘It’s okay, you needed to vent. That’s cool. At least you said sorry.’
‘Can you- I mean, if it’s cool, could you take me home?’ She asked, awkwardly. He appeared in front of her.
‘Course.’ He motioned to his back and, with a laugh, Sparky jumped on his back. He teleported. Sparky opened her eyes and shrieked.
‘This isn’t my house!’ She said coldly. Fletcher was standing on top of the Harbour Bridge. She got off and scowled. Then she pushed him of for the hell of it, knowing he would teleport back up. He screamed briefly on the way down.
‘Hey! Don’t do that! If I wasn’t me I’d be dead!’ He said, laughing.
‘But I wouldn’t do it if it wasn’t you. No one else is annoying enough to make me want to push them of the Harbour Bridge.’ Sparky giggled. Fletcher took her home. Everything was as it should be. She walked upstairs and went to sleep. In the morning she woke up and tried to stretch. She then opened her eyes. She was blindfolded. She tried to scream, but had a piece of cloth in her mouth. She attempted to fry the cloth over her eyes and mouth, but the electricity wasn’t coming out of her hands. So instead she made the electricity rise out of skin directly onto the cloth. This was a tactic that she had recently discovered. The magic-binding whatever that was on her would keep her magic from leaving her body, but electricity had science. The electricity on her skin jumped to the cloth, burning it. She could see again. She craned her head taking in everything she could. Which wasn’t much. She noticed that this time they hadn’t taken her Makhaira, which was nice for a change. She also noticed the man asleep on a stool by the door, supposedly guarding her. Always a weak link in these kidnapping attempts.
‘Hey! Dude, wake up.’ She called. The man shook, opened his eyes and looked at her. Sparky took her chance, staring into his eyes.
‘Release me.’ She ordered. He looked like he was hung over.
‘Release me now.’ She repeated. He stood up and untied her. She was about to walk out the door when she stopped. This was way to easy. She looked back at the man.
‘Walk out the door.’ She said. He looked scared for a fleeting second and then opened the door. Sparky was hiding behind the door when he fell. She peeked around the corner and saw that the man had been shot. This situation had started beyond her control and was now sliding much further away. She thought about calling Fletcher but decided against it. They had probably set something up to prevent him from helping her. But then again…

Twenty minutes later Sparky was standing in the rain outside the entrance to the Roarhaven Sanctuary. Fletcher hadn’t lied about it always raining in Ireland and she had believed him. She liked the rain, it was her favourite weather, but standing in it wasn’t to fun, there was no cover and it wasn’t pretty when she was wet. Fletcher popped his head back out the door.
‘You can come in now.’ He said. She trudged in immediately regretting it and she shocked herself.
‘Crap!’ Fletcher looked at her funny, and then realizing what had happened asked a man with a scarred head to dry her.
‘Why would I need to dry her?’ He asked. Fletcher explained, also adding in that Sparky developed an embarrassing stutter when this happened. The man nodded and Sparky felt the water lifting off of her.
‘Thank you. My name is Sparky Braginski. Has Fletcher told you about my, uh, predicament?’ The man shook her hand warmly.
‘Hello, my name is Ghastly Bespoke, apparently you need to call me Elder Bespoke but you can call me Ghastly. Yes I am aware and I’ll see what I can do. In the meantime, would you like to stay in the Sanctuary?’ Sparky nodded.
‘I would also like to comment on the fact that you are the first person I’ve ever met that hasn’t stared at my scars. How old are you?’
‘Thirteen. I thought that you must’ve lived through enough people staring at you, so I skipped that bit.’ She said, timidly.
‘Would you like a new set of clothes?’ He asked. Sparky looked at her own clothes.
‘Yes. But can I have what I’m wearing? I love this outfit, it took me forever to get it right.’ She queried.
‘Sure you can, I’ll just make them out of a protective fabric, how about that?’ Ghastly suggested. Sparky nodded, noticing something in Ghastly’s voice that struck her as strange. He was pronouncing everything very clearly for an Irishman. As he walked away, Sparky analyzed his comments in her head. Then she realized. He was pronouncing everything as clearly as possible to make sure she understood everything he said. She was now thoroughly irritated. She may have been small, and looked young for her age, but here was another person who didn’t think of her as an equal. She looked at Fletcher and asked him what they would do next.
‘Well, I think you should meet some of my friends. Val, Skuldu-‘ He began.
‘Val? As in Valkyrie Cain? The one that works with Skulduggery Pleasant? I get to meet them? Awesome.’ She was excited now. As Fletcher guided her through the Sanctuary they both got some pretty strange looks. She thought it was probably Fletcher’s hair, but then thought that maybe the ancient Greek sword hanging from a thirteen-year-olds waist was grabbing their attention.
‘Fletcher, where are we going?’ She asked, getting dizzy from all the twist’s and turns.
‘To the medical bay.’ He replied, casually.
‘The medi- why exactly are we going there?’
‘Because they always end up there somehow. You look lost.’ He said.
‘Yes I am. If you know where the sick bay is, can’t we just teleport there?’ She pleaded.

Sparky Braginski said...

‘Actually, I was waiting for you to ask me that, I have no idea where we are.’ Fletcher put his hand on her shoulder and they appeared outside what looked like the medical clinic from hell. The chairs were rusted and there were blood splatters on the walls. She turned, and nearly crashed into a skeleton. She looked up, and gasped. She had almost walked into the Skeleton Detective.
‘Sorry. I saw you teleport in with Fletcher. Who are you?’ he asked, his voice calm.
‘My name is Sparky Braginski. I’m from Australia.’ She said, dumbfounded.
‘Really? You don’t sound particularly Australian. You sound half Russian half Irish.’ He commented.
‘I’ve been around. I love Russia, but this is the first time I’ve been to Ireland.’ She explained. Skulduggery cocked his head.
‘Say something else. Why are you here?’ He asked. Sparky looked confused but elaborated.
‘Well, in the last month I’ve been kidnapped four times by the same person. I don’t know why they want me, but I figured it probably wasn’t safe for me to stay in Australia.’ Sparky thought he was looking right at her, but couldn’t tell.
‘You also sound a bit Welsh. Or is it English?’ He said.
‘Actually, it’s both. I noticed as soon as I met her.’ Fletcher added. Skulduggery looked at him.
‘Welcome back. How was Australia?’ He asked Fletcher.
‘Hot. Sweaty. Humid. They love cricket. What else do you need to know?’ Fletcher replied. Skulduggery laughed.
‘Valkyrie will be out in a moment if you were wondering.’ He said. The moment had just become exceedingly awkward. Sadly, that moment of awkwardness was about to be topped. Valkyrie Cain walked out of the operating room.
‘Skulduggery, do we seriously need Nye t-‘ Valkyrie saw Fletcher and turned bright red. Fletcher also turned red. Sparky, on the other hand, went white as a sheet. Skulduggery surveyed the situation chuckling. The three kids looked at him. Valkyrie growled, Fletcher scowled and Sparky started laughing uncontrollably. Then Fletcher and Valkyrie scowled at her.
‘Well this is funny.’ Chuckled Skulduggery. He grabbed Sparky’s shoulder and guided her out of the Sanctuary.
‘W-where are you taking me?’ While they were walking Sparky noted that she wasn’t getting wet, and Skulduggery wasn’t either.
‘Have you ever read anything by Gordon Edgley?’ He asked. Sparky nodded. She had read all of his stuff. ‘And The Darkness Rained Upon Them’, ‘The Vanishing Light’, ‘The Coward Colonel Fleece’, ‘Brain Muncher’ and ‘Into Thin Air’. There were so many more.
‘Good. I’m taking you to his house.’ Skulduggery said. Sparky looked at him, puzzled.
‘I thought he was dead!’ She exclaimed. Skulduggery stopped walking next to a swanky car.
‘What kind of car is that?’ She asked. Skulduggery looked at her, stepping into the car.
‘Get in. It’s 1945 Bentley R-Type Continental.’ He responded. Sparky slid in, thinking how impulsive Skulduggery was. The car ride was pleasant, but Sparky couldn’t help but wonder what Fletcher and Valkyrie were doing.

Sparky Braginski said...

Skulduggery had introduced Sparky to the Echo Gordon and she had marveled over his entertainment skills. When they arrived at the Sanctuary, Fletcher greeted them with a black eye.
‘Hello guys. How are you?’ He moaned. Sparky saw Ghastly walking behind him. She shoved Fletcher aside, ignoring his pitiful groaning and ran after Ghastly.
‘Ghast-!’ She hesitated. ‘Elder Bespoke, I need to talk to you!’ She called. This time she got lots of strange looks, but ignored them completely. Ghastly saw her and walked briskly into a room. Sparky followed. She walked in carefully, and saw Ghastly presenting her with a box.
‘Here are your new clothes.’ He said, still pronouncing everything perfectly.
‘Okay, thanks, but really? Must you talk like that?’ She exclaimed. Ghastly stared.
‘Talk like what?’ He asked. Sparky sighed.
‘You pronounce everything so precisely when you talk to me, yet when you speak to others, you talk briskly. You have underestimated my intelligence and me. That annoys me. What made you think I was to be treated differently? Huh?’
‘You are the youngest person to visit the Sanctuary since Valkyrie first came when she was twelve. I’m startled to see such a young girl with a sword hanging from her waist. How did you get that anyway?’ He replied.
‘My Makhaira? It was recommended to me by a friend, Lyra Blue.’ She answered.
‘Ghastly, I don’t want to make my first impression that I complain a lot, but I cannot stand it when people treat me like that. I may be thirteen, but I’m ready to handle whatever Australia can throw at me. Now, I wish to change into my new clothes.’ Ghastly stepped back and then nodded. She got changed and walked back out of the room, and immediately got lost. She asked a passing sorcerer which way she should go.
'Excuse me, but how do I get to the exit?' She asked a woman with short hair.
‘Who are you, and why should I waste my time leading you somewhere? Ask Tipstaff.’
‘My name is Sparky Braginski, I don’t know who Tipstaff is and this place needs a map.’ She responded, strongly. The woman shrugged.
‘My name is Philomena Random. I’ll guide you to the exit.’ As they walked together Philomena explained her job at the sanctuary and how her magic aided her. Sparky was eager to talk to someone on this subject and was happy to know that her minor levels of manipulation over others were a career choice.

The next morning Fletcher took Sparky back to the Sanctuary, in a meeting room of some sort. To her surprise Skulduggery and Valkyrie were there, along with Ghastly and a man named Erskine Ravel. Skulduggery started the meeting.
‘I have been thinking about what we should do. I have decided that the best way to solve the problem is to find the center of the problem. Which means that you, Sparky, are going back to Australia.’ Skulduggery concluded. Sparky stared at him.
What!?’ She screeched. ‘You want me to go back?’ Sparky wasn’t the only one looking at him funny. Fletcher sat there with his mouth hanging open and even Valkyrie was staring at Skulduggery like he was a madman. Sparky guessed that Fletcher had filled her in. Ghastly stood up.
‘Sparky mentioned that she could’ve been shot. I would like to point out that because she is now wearing Bespoke Tailor’s clothing, she will be safe.

Sparky Braginski said...

She could get carpet-bombed whatever part of her body clothing covered would be unharmed.’
‘That’s no consolation! The good mages can tell protective clothing from the normal stuff!’ Valkyrie exclaimed. Sparky looked at her.
‘I would know.’ Valkyrie stared right on back. ‘I’ve been shot. Or, at least, I remember it.’ Valkyrie broke eye contact. In the small moment connection, Sparky had almost sensed a hostility coming from Valkyrie. Sparky was worried. She didn’t like having enemies, especially ones she had never spoken to before. Ravel spoke up.
‘So, basically we are sending a thirteen-year-old back to a country where someone wants to kill her? Isn’t that just a little daft?’ He said.
‘She can take care of herself.’ Mumbled Ghastly. Sparky sat up a little straighter.
‘Do you have reasoning behind that? Or is it just because of the flashy sword hanging from her waist?’ He said, annoyed. Sparky sank down in her chair again, and turned bright red. Ghastly and Fletcher stood up at the same time and roared,
‘Don’t underestimate her!’ They then looked at each other and sat back down again. Ravel switched his gaze between both of them.
‘Are you sure?’ He asked. Fletcher and Ghastly shared a look and then nodded.
‘But of course you aren’t sending me alone, right?’ Sparky said before they got to out of hand. They all looked at her.
‘Of course we’re not sending you by yourself. Fletcher, Val and Skulduggery are going with you.’ Ghastly answered.
‘So when do we leave?’ Valkyrie asked. Fletcher put his hand on Valkyrie’s shoulder. They disappeared. Fletcher reappeared, touched Skulduggery’s hat and teleported away again. When he returned he grabbed Sparky’s hand and they appeared underneath to Harbour Bridge, next to Valkyrie and Skulduggery.
‘So what’s the game plan?’ Fletcher asked. Valkyrie and Skulduggery laughed.
‘Game plan? Since when have we had a game plan?’ Valkyrie cackled, wiping a tear away. Sparky looked aghast.
‘So, I’m going to be bait. And your going to swoop in and save the day, right?’ She said.
‘Yes, that’s usually how it works.’ Skulduggery replied. Sparky fell to her knees and cried out.
‘These guys had better be as good as the sound!’ She called to the sky.

The next morning Sparky woke up and looked around quickly. Yes, she had been kidnapped. Again. She was getting sick of waking up somewhere different than when she went to sleep. Except this time they’d gone a bit overboard. She was not shackled, blindfolded or muzzled. No, she was surrounded by forty or so of sleeping hit men. She was fully aware that they were instructed to attack her when she woke up. But she must’ve been drugged, because they were all sound asleep. Without making a sound she slid of the table she had been lying on, and punched the ground as hard as she could.

Sparky Braginski said...

The chairs that the men were sitting on overturned. They woke up and decided to go tag team. One of them came at her, and without a flinch Sparky swiftly pulled her Makhaira out with her right hand and cut the man’s Achilles tendon. He fell with a shriek, immediately replaced by two more. She electrocuted one and cut the finger off another. The one she electrocuted jittered and fell. The other grabbed his fallen finger and while he was distracted, Sparky she let her electricity crackle around her hands. She then punched the man directly under the chin, making him fly backwards. The men were doubling their efforts. Four of them dived at her and she just managed to blur out of the way, catching one of the men in the side with her Makhaira. She then sent a twin stream of electricity into two idle men’s eyes. She turned, was almost hit by someone’s punch to the side of her head, but managed to duck out of the way just in time. She splayed her hands and a weak shockwave ebbed out and confused her assailants. She grabbed her mobile phone and called the others.
‘Help me, I’m being attacked!’ She grunted. A man came up behind her and battered the phone out of her hand. She whirled, but not in time to avoid the punch to her ribs. She faltered, clutching the side of her chest. She then feinted down and swiped high with her sword. She cut the man’s ear off. Dropping the façade of being hurt she saw Fletcher, Valkyrie and Skulduggery fighting. Fletcher was disappearing and reappearing with a different weapon every time. Skulduggery was shooting beams of fire at the enemy and Valkyrie was sending waves of shadows around the room. Soon enough, the men were but a bloody pile on the floor. Some were dead and some were not, but Sparky knew she hadn’t killed anyone. They stalked along looking for the leader of this operation. The entered a room that had only one thing of interest. An old man, looking to be about sixty, tall, thin with greying ginger hair. He wore a stainless white suit and held a cane of the deepest black. He was grinning evilly.
‘So you finally discover my hideout. I was watching you fight my men by the way, I must not underestimate our dear Sparky again.’ The man said. ‘If you were wondering my name is Iniquitous Subjugate.’ He said it all with a very bored voice. Fletcher watched as Sparky’s eyes got madder and madder. Any second now she was going to blow a fuse, and it was not going to be pretty.
‘Why do you want me? Why have you kidnapped me so many times?’ Sparky asked. He smiled and shrugged.
‘I am evil. I stop potential young magic civilians thwarting my plans. Unfortunately I didn’t get to you soon enough. You have escaped my grasp four times, and I am worried about your determination. I simply wanted to kill you off so that you couldn’t save Australia every time I tried to destroy it. I have not succeeded, and I assume you’re going to throw me in jail. That’s probably wise.’ He held out his wrists and Valkyrie stepped towards him with shackles.
‘Wait.’ Sparky ordered. ‘Do you really believe I think it’s going to be as easy as that? He’s not real.’ Skulduggery looked at her.
‘So you noticed to? Sparky is correct, the Iniquitous Subjugate standing before us is a hologram.’ Skulduggery said. Fletcher and Valkyrie gaped.

Fletcher teleported beside Subjugate and waved his hand through the hologram’s head. Fletcher looked at the ground.
‘Hey! The video is being sent from somewhere I’ve been before, lets go!’ Fletcher grabbed Skulduggery, Valkyrie and Sparky and teleported them to a room full of cameras and computers. The real Iniquitous was standing there in disbelief that they’d found him.
‘But, how? So you didn’t fall for my traps. Oh well. Time to fight.’ Subjugate lifted his cane, the camouflage lifting and showing that the cane was, in fact, a Katana. He swiped at Sparky, his prime objective. She skipped back and pulled out her Makhaira with her left hand. He cackled.
‘Why with your left? I saw you fighting with your right before.’ He giggled with glee.
‘Now who said I was right handed?’ Sparky replied coolly, swiping for his head, ducking and stabbing at his feet. They dueled for ten minutes or so, with Skulduggery, Valkyrie and Fletcher keeping Iniquitous’ henchmen at bay. And finally Sparky’s sword found purchase. She stabbed through his thigh, making him fall of his feet.
‘Fletcher! Get Skulduggery and Valkyrie out of the room!’ She yelled. Fletcher, not stopping to ask why, teleported them away. Sparky planted her feet firmly on the ground and clapped as hard as she could. Subjugate flew backwards and hit the wall, making it crack. All of the henchmen flew into the glass walls on the other side of room and crashed straight through. Sparky herself, gripped her phone tightly and flew backwards. She curled herself up into a ball in midair and felt her shins connect with a table ledge. She pulled her phone out and called Fletcher, not having enough strength to say anything. For the first time she thought that maybe she had just broken both of her legs. She lay there and saw Fletcher appear. She vaguely remembered Fletcher picking her up and teleporting her back to the medical clinic from hell.

Sparky Braginski sat up. She was reading a Gordon Edgley book, Brain Muncher, again. She had been in the medical bay for two days, and was set to go home in an hour. Valkyrie, Fletcher and Ghastly had visited her. Fletcher walked in.
‘Are you ready to go?’ He asked.
‘I thought I was leaving in another hour.’ She moaned back.
‘Yeah, well I wanted to give you a treat.’ He smiled.
‘I’ll pass.’ Sparky said, lazily. Fletcher disappeared and suddenly Sparky was sitting on a patch of grass underneath the Harbour Bridge. Of course Fletcher had taken her anyway. She sighed. Fletcher was about to say something when he started choking. She thumped his back and he calmed down.
‘What’s wrong?’ She asked, startled. He coughed again and then choked out two words.
‘Tanith. Low.’

I, Kirsty van der Veer, hereby give my Golden God, Derek Landy, full rights to take this character and adapt it into his brain-explodingly brilliant work.

HEY DEREK LANDY! I am Kirsty, from Australia, stoked about this competition, and this is my entry. It could probably use some of your tweaking, so I understand AND support that :D

My character is Jessie Clone. She's an Adept, and like the Adept which Stephanie runs into in the first book, she's worked hard to teach herself a unique spell - She is able to shape-shift into someone, anyone she's seen. She is, of course, more convincing than most reflections which is what makes her so useful.

However, as Skulduggery Pleasant told Valkyrie in the first book, "Every big spell has a hidden snag." And Jessie Clone's snag is that the transformation into someone else requires a lot of power to maintain, and so she can slip in and out of character if she stays one person for too long. So clearly her cover can easily be blown.

Jessie Clone's job is to be hired for her ability to change form, whether it is to pose as her employer to simply be able to be two places at once, or to take on the form as a stranger in order to decieve someone.

Jessie is extremely professional, about thirty-odd years old (with the appearance of a nineteen year old when in her normal form). Her normal form is a black-haired, green-eyed, skinny, casually dressed, very average looking nineteen year old. She is confident, clever, shows no fear and rarely any mercy. Whether she's sided with the good guys or the bad guys all depends on who her current contract is with.

Oh, and regarding which country (and thus accent) she's from, I'd like her to be Australian, but it is really up to you, and what would best suit the character you need.

Well, Derek Landy, I very much hope that you like my character, because I really do. If not, well HAPPY NEW YEAR anyway.

In regards to your shrubbery...Well, the next time you come on tour to Australia, I'll be sure to give it to you!

From the awesomest Australiminion out there, KIRSTY VAN DER VEER!

Zara Sage
Adept (Sensitive)

Look, I know I shouldn't be giving her a power that we've already seen, and I know I shouldn't be naming her after a vegetable, but I couldn't help it. One hour to closing time, and I just HAD to enter another character. And in this case, 'sage doesn't mean vegetable. It means WISE. Because she's wise. She's a wise vegetable. A wise vegetable that can see into the future. A wise vegetable that can see into the future, and hates Kenny loves China okay I'm good that's it!

This character was created by Eve, the Australiminion with the funny accent who hates Kenny, loves China, and will fly into a life-threatening rage if you never mention China again.

Derek Landy can use this however he wants. Unless he wishes to use it to make a large pink origami elephant, then he will need written permission.

Samantha Grim

She's a tall, pale, skinny woman who finds a strange joy in watching a pot boil, just to prove everyone wrong. She's an adept who has the ability to turn herself to sand, allowing her to slip through gaps, avoid attacks and blow in people's faces on windy days. She has a slight case of insanity and has been incarcerated in mortal lunatic asylums seventeen-and-five-eightths times. She hasn't contributed to the magical world, much... okay, so she's done less then nothing. But she likes to think of herself as popular and is taken aback when people don't ask for an autograph when she tells them her name.

Oh, almost forgot, she also likes saying the word 'shrubbery' (there you go, Derek).

Sierra Nightingale. Information broker, proficient knife wielder, telepathic sensitive, and chronic liar.

She spends her days either in her office, planning little schemes, destroying someone's life, and trolling people on the internet, or, if she feels like it, she'll wander outside to terrorise local gangs for fun.

She enjoys shooting down people who think big of themselves, but doesn't pick on people she thinks are helpless. She's extremely manipulative and loves playing pranks because she enjoys watching people's reactions to things. She teases people she likes.

Not many people know she's a Sensitive. Her information is always correct - the only time it's wrong is when she deliberately tells a lie, but if you pay high enough, that'll never happen. Honesty is her work policy. Most of the time.

Nothing remarkable about her looks: brown hair, brown eyes, glasses, a suit - the professional look of a person stuck in an office job, which, I guess, is what she does.

Kay, so bear with me here. Remember way back when Skulduggery mentioned an Adept he once knew who could change her form on command? Yeah well seeing as we had to keep it to something already mentioned in the books, I decided that to make an easy backstory and for some witty dialogue that the Golden God could toss in, I'd use her.

Name: Mavis Karma
Power: Ability to change at will.
Characteristics: She's very, very British, knew Skulduggery a while ago (not an important point, just a curiosity). The reast I'll leave up to the Golden God, because He's better at this than me.

Sorry if I seem to have stolen someone elses idea.

Admiral Bacon said...

Crap my idea doesn't seem to have posted. To paraphrase it, the character is a reference to when very early in the Skulduggery series, Skulduggery mentions that he once knew an Adept who could change form, so...

Name: Mavis Karma
Power: Shape-changing, an Adept discipline (of course)
Characteristics: She's very British, and knew Skulduggery in the war. Also a member of the British Sanctuary. The rest I'll leave up to the Golden God, as he's a damn sight better than me at this.

Hopefully I haven't left this two minutes too late.

"I hereby give my Golden God, Derek Landy, full rights to take this character and adapt it into his brain-explodingly brilliant work."

My character is Ms Cleh Prue Ding

She has two main powers, one which is passive, and one that she can use at will. Her passive power is at all times active, and allows her to know what is going to happen five seconds before it does. Due to this, she is impossible to surprise or trap, and in fights knows exactly what her opponent is going to do, often before they do. Due to this she has learnt a style of fighting that is designed around evading her opponent’s attacks and countering them. Her secondary power is empathy, allowing Cleh to feel what those around her feel, and manipulate these emotions to her advantage. For instance she can heighten someone’s feelings of uncertainty to full blown paranoia, or take a feeling of passion and diminish it to indifference. It would take someone with great control over their mind and emotions to resist her powers, but it could be done.
Cleh is fairly unremarkable in looks with short light brown hair and a pleasant face. She is slender in build and on the short side, which often leads others to think she is an easy target. Her looks allow her to blend in and go unnoticed so her victims have no idea what occurred.

Hey Derek,

I have submitted this later than the deadline so I don't know if you'll even be bothered reading this but in my defence I had it all written up and I was perfectly happy with it - went to submit it and lost everything. So I shall write the rest of this in part misery, part false hope, and part terror for spelling and grammar.

I am from Australia and:

I hereby give most amazingly brilliant author, Derek Landy, full rights to take this character and adapt it into his hopefully-not-too-brain-explodingly brilliant work. I hear your brain is important, or something.

Okay, so now on to my wonderfully fantastic character created by someone who is clearly very modest:

This character is a nineteen year old girl who has chosen the name of Vivacious Sunshine. She does not suit her name at all. Most definitely. She chose this name at the age of eight, despite the warnings of all family and friends. Her current favourite colour (or shade if you really want specifics here) is black and she can consitently be found wearing volumous amounts of it. Her style is a mixture of punk and goth and she is not particularly friendly.

Although she has moved on from her more vivacious and lively days, her name is still relevant to her power. She is an adept who has the power to make people joyous, to make them forget about their troubles and stress. Hence, she makes an excellent interrogator. She doesn't work for the sanctuary. Vivacious is the illegalish, underground type of interrogator who works for people who hear about her and are willing to pay her to question people. Oddly enough, she will often be found to refuse clients simply due to the fact that they annoy her. She would probably reject Valkyrie and then need to be talked around by Skulduggery, to be honest.

Good luck with finding characters dear author, I'm sure there are plenty of fantastical ones to choose from :) Happy New Years! And if you do actually read this, sorry about being past the deadline. I'm guessing I won't even be considered. At all.

I give the genius Derek Landy permission to use this character and put it in to his mind blowing masterpiece.

Sandy Marniss, one of the oldest sorcerous in the world yet she looks 12.

Adept

She has the ability to age other people, the only down side of her magic is the fact that she ages aswell so she prefers not to use her power. She has 100 years left and is being hunted for her powers by a secret band of warlocks that no one knows about. She has been laughed at by the council and now she has to fight for her life and others because the warlocks plan to age every mortal! In a race for survival sandy has to over come the odds with two friends and save the world.

(I added the two friends in there for the man the NZs are making and if Derek wants to add another.)

It would make very happy if you use this or even a little bit. :D
