*The ceiling was just above Adra when she woke up, water pooling around her ankles- some unknown source was causing there to be water in her container* *Above her is a steel grate that separates her from the room above* *Her head is bleeding, and she faintly remembers Varvara dragging Alastair to the ground just before she passed out- and wonders if Alastair would be in the room above her*
*considering how her cell is filling with water, and she lacks all magic at the present, it is very likely* *but perhaps he is still unconscious*
*there may be some light scratching sounds above her as he stirs* Adra...?
*Tries to stand- and does- but her body is so weak, and the water is already an inch above her ankles* *It is filling up so fast* *Tries to reach above her, her fingers gripping onto the grate, hanging there* *When she holds onto the grate, she is hanging about a foot off the ground* *Cries out for her husband*
*he will move around until he finds the grate, and her hands* I'm here- are you alright? *he is looking over the grate, trying to figure out how sturdy it is, and if she could fit through*
*She is just hanging by her fingers, so she might not be able to hold his hands* *Her face and body are covered in blood and water* I- the water-
*if it looks like she could fit through the bars, he will reach through to grab her wrists, and begin to pull her up* *otherwise, he will begin to try to cut through the bars a distance away from her so that he can make space to hold her through* It's alright, love- I'll get you out.
*The grate is small, and he wouldn't be able to pull her up* *Her arms shake as she hangs there* How... You have a knife?
*he nods* I do- but it isn't working... Hold on- I'm going to see if there's a door here.
*She nods- there is about a foot of water in there, and it is rising quickly* *The water is so cold*
*he will find a door- but this one also seems somehow magically impervious to damage, so he will just bang on it relentlessly* *he is hoping that Varvara will come to try to kill him once she knows he is awake*
*after a few moments, she will open up a slot in the door, to talk to him*
*the moment she does, he reaches through to dig his fingers into her eyes, and uses that hold on her to slam her head into the wall just next to the door* *she screams once, but then is silent* Unbind these rooms, and let me get Adra out, or I will kill you.
*Varvara's breaths are heavy, and she coughs* *then she grabs his wrist, and wrenches herself away from him, taking a few steps back* I- would rather die...
*Adra is trying hard to hold on, but her body is wet* *And the water is up to her chest* *Her fingers are slipping and shaking, desperately trying to hold on* *She can't hear her husband and Varvara, but she concentrates on hanging on*
*Varvara has started to walk away, unsteady- she needs to treat this*
Wait- *she isn't stopping* *Adra is going to hate this, and he silently apologizes in advance* If you let me release her- I'll let you kill me.
*she pauses- but is still not agreeing*
You've seen what my mind is like- you'll never e able to isolate and kill just me on your own. You'd lose your own mind first. But if you let me release her- I'll just let you. I'll make it as easy for you as I can.
...Fine. *she will move out of sight, and shortly after, Adra and Alastair will be able to use their magic again*
*She can't do much- by now, the water has filled to the top, and she is just under the surface, trying to hold her breath, but halfway passed out*
*He's right- she won't be pleased*
*he had to get her out somehow* *he will reach through the bars just to touch her, and then dematerialize them both to pull her out* *and then he will teleport the two of them away*
*She is absolutely soaking wet and has water in her throat, burning her* *She is unconscious*
*he will see if she is breathing, and has a pulse, and will give her CPR if she needs it* *otherwise he will just dry her, and try to heal what he can*
*She doesn't have a pulse*
*then he will give her CPR, and hope that that helps* *if it doesn't, he can shock her to start her heart again* *he will not let her soul leave her*
*Her ribs, already feeble and weak, will snap under his fingers* *That will shock her enough, the pain, and she spits water from her mouth*
*oh* *he will draw the pain from her, and heal her, then* *he didn't want to do that- he was trying to be careful- he's so sorry* I- I'm so sorry, Adra- I'm sorry...
*She coughs, still trying to get the water up- her eyes are full of tears from the salt*
*he will help her if he can, getting the water and the salt away from her* Adra, my darling- I love you so much, and I'm sorry...
*If he can just hold her that would be great* *Her arms are shaking from the strain* *Clutches to him*
*of course* *he will hold her, dry her off with magic, and let her hair* *he will warm himself up for her, as well* I love you...
*She loves him too- so much* *She will look up and gently brush her fingers under his chin, inspecting him*

*Just watches him- she is quite covered in blood, and her eye is swollen and bruised* *Its hard to breathe still from the water* What did Varvara want?
*he will heal what he can with magic* She- still wants to kill me... and apparently, now, also you.
*She just holds his hand* I'm sorry..

*She will just grip tighter to him* Where is Niccolò? Can... can he help set up symbols?
*nods* We'll ask him.
*Adra just nods, and curls against her husband, her tiny body fitting against his*

*It hurts her so much to see him in pain, and she will just brush her hand against his face* My love....

I'm sorry, love. I tried threatening her life- she wasn't going to set you free. It was the only thing I could think of. I knew you would hate it, and I am sorry. I wouldn't have said it if I thought I was really going to die, but I'm sorry.

*kisses her hair* I promised I would let her kill me. I didn't say anything about what you, or Niccolò, or anyone else would do. If word were to get out to Aretha that my life was being threatened, she could send someone to make a legal arrest- and there wouldn't have to be any bloodshed at all. I know it's a bit risky, and deceptive- but it was the only thing I could think of to make her let you go.
*Just bites her lip* But she was crafty enough to capture both of us. Who is to say that she won't work her way out of this again?
*pauses* It is possible. But I think, at this point, we have more allies- and if worse comes to worst, you can always bring me back. I don't plan on that happening, but at least we wouldn't both die.
*She doesn't know what to think about this- and is upset by it* Maybe if I can talk to her...?

I did something pretty hilarious the other day.
So I'm sitting in a window of my dorm with my head out it hairspraying my hair because apparently hairspray sets off the fire alarms in our residence hall.
So a suite mate asks me why I'm sitting in a window with my head out it
So I reply "Doors are for peoole with no imagination"
So she says "We live in the fourth floor though. It'd hurt walking out a window..."
And so I grin, coming back inside closing our window and reply "Perhaps, I'm able to walk through the shadows."
And then we both look at the skeleton on my bedroom door and she goes "Goddamn it I thought we discussed this - The Irish can't know who you are, you'll be arrested. China Sorrows hates you."
And I laughed and said "And this is why I have a skeleton on my door, Skulduggery can't find me."
And then my other suite mate comes out and asks "Who did you piss off?"
And then I mutter "Don't trust people with golden eyes." And walk to class.

When it did, she opened her eyes

How she could be so certain that it was?

A disembodied voice called out a greeting:
"Hello, dandelion" Dandelion wasn't her name.
That was just outside the frame of her memory
She'd always been fond of dandelions, though
They were hardy, determined, stubborn, but also
the seeds could float purposeless in the breeze
She could relate to that, or at least she thought so
Was she the type of person who floated aimlessly?
She wanted to say yes, but wasn't confident enough.
How did she even remember she liked dandelions?
How did she know the plant's name but not her own?
"I'm going to show you a story," the disembodied voice said
"You're approaching zero, but you have time to listen to her"
Somehow she knew to whom that feminine pronoun referred
She'd killed someone. That was one of the few things she knew
The dead woman had an unfinished story that needed to be heard
The room was a hallway now
The first screen had a face
Light brown hair, blue eyes
The slightest hint of gray
Her nose a shade pinker
Than the rest of her face
With a splatter of freckles
Dandelion didn't remember
She had killed this woman
But she couldn't remember
The face was too familiar
For it to be anybody else
Dandelion didn't remember
Anybody else, just the woman
She'd killed--in cold blood?
Subconsciously, she brushed
A wisp of hair behind her ear

She had a bit more of a connection with that name than any of the other aliases she used. She never remembered why, but I know. What do you know?--

Copenhagen, of course. I went there once. I was with someone else, and she asked me if I'd been before. I said I had. It was the truth, but I also didn't know my way around or anything. Maybe I was only there for a short while the first time, maybe I went to a different part of Copenhagen, maybe too much time elapsed between visits. I don't know. Will I ever?

She hated it and "transferred schools" at age 15
She took community college classes online while pretending to attend a non-existent private high school
This gave her the ability to travel as necessary

But I am enjoying watching Bones and Harry Potter on the couch. Tyger is on my lap because he really loves the heated blanket that Aretha sent me for Christmas. I am also snuggled with my big 5 ft tall bear, Alexander. He is so soft and I just lay in him and be comfy ^.^
So between all of that, the frozen lemonade, ice cream, and soup, I'm very pampered.

Highly delayed reply because, you know, I don't really come here that often anymore. But for those who replied to my "blog has been forgotten comment"; no really, it has. The last post was a tour announcement. Since then...
- No blog post for the actual release of the book (American Monsters)
- No tour recap (pictures of Derek with fans, gifts he received, a general recap of what happened?)
- No reflection on American Monsters (there's almost always a discussion post after a new book is released)
- No Christmas / New Years post (usually a recap of what happened this year, progress made, favourite TV shows and movies of the year etc)
- No cover reveal for the re-release of the original SP trilogy (you said it yourself, he always announces new covers)
- No update on SPX (yes there have been small updates on twitter but at the very least he would normally have a reflective post once the first draft is sent off, tease what might happen in the book, etc).
- In fact there hasn't been an update for 5 months, which is the longest hiatus in the history of this blog. There were only 8 posts during 2016 for the whole year. In previous years there has usually been around 50 or more.
So yeah, as far as I'm concerned, the blog is dead.
And I follow Derek on twitter, and if you happen to get a reply from him then sure that's exciting, but I really don't care that much; I miss actually having a cohesive record of significant updates.

in conclusion
Derek has given us so much already and is continuing to give us stuff on a different platform and is in no way obligated to have any contact with his fans whatsoever so i think its really cool that he still keeps in touch on twitter even when he's so busy writing the stuff that keeps me alive

True, the blog is pretty much dead, and I miss the updates too, but also "-"(no idea who this is, sorry) has a good point. If Derek doesn't want to update on multiple sites, or just plain stopped using this one, then that's his choice and we'll probably come to accept that eventually. At least he still takes the time to give us quick updates from Twitter. Even if it's not as great...
But he /didn't/ forget the blog. If you follow him then maybe you've seen his reply to Tia. He hasn't forgotten the blog, but as I said, he just stopped using it. Which basically puts me at the beginning again by restating that yes, it still means that the blog is pretty much dead.
