Oooh Shiny...

Look what arrived a few days ago...

Ohhh, all those lovely Doctor Who stories, all in one place! And look what ELSE arrived in the same box...

Toys! Wonderful, wonderful TOYS!

I was indeed  a happy writer.

So what else have I been up to lately? Well, I've been writing, amazingly enough. I have taken two weeks off Book Nine to focus on coming up with new stories for Armageddon-Outta-Here (haw!) which'll be out next summer.

As a sample of what the new stories will feature, we're talking the Dead Men in the Wild West, the story of how Valkyrie met Caelan, a Billy-Ray Sanguine solo adventure, and Skulduggery Pleasant and Gordon Edgley at a horror-themed masquerade ball, set 25 years ago.

Time is tight, deadlines are onrushing, but I'm having FUN, so none of it seems quite like work. And hopefully it never will.

And yay for book 9!!!! Can't wait to read it, and also wish it wouldn't come so that this series can go on forever :D Though, unfortunately, it wont :'( I'm coming to terms with that.... I'm WORKING on coming to terms with that.

    Yay! :)
I'm sure the others are great TOO, but I'm happy about those three in particular. :P

    Also hi all!

Also, *laughs* I'm reading my Psychology textbook, and the last bit I read before entering the blog was a reference to Doctor Who. Which is fitting, I guess. :P

DEREK LANDY and PATRICK NESS and EOIN COLFER???

    :O

    *dies of awesomeness*

And Alex Scarrow is good too. :) And didn't Phillip Reeve write The Mortal Engines? Yahahah, I know him, then! Although I read those books to long ago to give an accurate rating on them!

Charlie Higson - I really want to read that saga of books of his that begins with The Enemy, but The Enemy hasn't been in the library the last few times I've checked!
In English when we had to bring in a reading book, the boy opposite me didn't so he got one of the few books in the classroom, and it was The Enemy, and I asked if I could read the blurb and then I just sort of went into slight fangirl mode. I was sad when he had to put it back at the end of the lesson. :(
Anyway, yes. They seem like cool books. :)

Malorie Blackman . . . she wrote those books my friend was reading. :) Never ead any of her books.

    And I don't know the others. :P

BUT STILL. I did totally NOT expect to have so MANY awesome writers write for this thingy!!!! Arghhhhhhhhhh! D:

  27. Hmm... The kitty needs a name...

Effie (Because Effie meowed and tried to climb up the curtains. Also because Saph)
Jesy (Because Jesy is perfect and totally deserves having a Heli-kitty named after her)
Jade (Ditto. Though idk about Jade the kitty with Jadis the dolphin, so...))
    Perrie ((Again, ditto))
    Leigh-Anne ((Same reasoning!))
    Clarabelle ((Because.))

Those are what I've come up with so far!

    #ChaseForBook9

    ReplyDelete
  28. @Fabi: DON'T ASK ME! :)
Well, not Jade because Jadis the dolphin, but the others are about balanced . . . :P

Calm your soul and my desire
Keep me safe I’ll keep you warm
Love me till we love no more

    Sing my carols seamlessly
    Silent night on Christmas Eve
Hold me till the bells awake
So in love on Christmas day
    Oh Christmas day

So the angels they bring us hope
Under the mistletoe there’s piece on earth
I know the spirit will never leave
And then we always love on Christmas Eve
And then we always love on Christmas Eve

    All the family gathers around
    Sharing stories all year round
As we watch the snow fall to the ground
A white Christmas I have finally found
    I finally found

So the angels they bring us hope
Under the mistletoe there’s piece on earth
I know the spirit will never leave
And then we always love on Christmas Eve
And then we always love on Christmas Eve

So the angels they bring us hope
Under the mistletoe there’s piece on earth
I know the spirit will never leave
And then we always love on Christmas Eve

  35. Hello Eilis.

Hm... Well, Effie could be short for Esquibeth? Clarabelle would be SP-themed, and Perrie, Jesy and Leigh-Anne would be Little Mix-y! I think Perrie and Jesy are better names for a little kitty than Leigh-Anne, though...

    ReplyDelete
  44. @Eilís: Thank you. We bubbles are all about being positive. :)

    #ChaseForBook9

    ReplyDelete
  46. @Fabi: Awesome. I suppose that Esquibeth can have two variations, at least, with shortening to Effie and such. Which is good.
But on the other hand, Jesy doesn't NEED shortening.
    So still idk. :P
    But maybe that helps.

    You okay, thar?

@Star: Aw. :P I guess change is good because it'll be maybe better/more enjoyable if you go with what you want to do more? Or explore more ideas? Or something?
But keep the other one in case you change your mind, or something?

    #ChaseForBook9

    ReplyDelete

    #ChaseForBookNine

    ReplyDelete
  57. @Adra: I knew quite a few of the authors, but I didn't know them. Who're they? :)

@Taia: Probably. :) I think the changed idea is better for English narrative purposes, but the other is a better story. The first one can hardly do detail at all though, in the time, so I might change it . . . :P *is just keeping writing for the moment*

    #ChaseForBookNine

    ReplyDelete
  58. @Adra: IK. But Patrick Ness and Patrick NEss and Patrick NEss and I WILL be crying. xP

and Neil Gaiman is one of the best writers ever of sci fi and he wrote a lot of Doctor Who episodes. (not a lot, but I think he did "The Doctor's Wife" when the TARDIS became a woman)

    ReplyDelete
  61. I recognised some of them, but I know I've definitely read from Derek (duh. :P), NEssie, and Gaiman. AND I enjoy all three muchly so YES.
And I think Colfer wrote Artemis Fowl, which Star likes and Star's awesome, so yesly. :)

And - frowning is overrated. :)

    #ChaseForBookNine

    ReplyDelete
  74. Hm... I meant it as sort of a joke, but I might actually pick it now...

    #ChaseForBook9

    ReplyDelete
  75. @Eilís: :)

    Hm.
I really want to write something.
But I have nothing in my head to write.
ANd I'm certain I have some kind of homework.
And if I don't then I should be revising.
But since I can't concentrate on those things ANYWAY, maybe it's excusable to take on the writing thing anyway?
I haven't done any writing in a LONG time. So it'd be nice to do some.
    But revision is important.
But so is writing, at least for my mental health.
    asdfgh.

That makes sense. Thanks, somehow. Idk if it helps, but I feel like thanks. :)
(PS-no need to hide, it's the truth, you just put it into words, which is no crime, but rather pretty good, really. :) )

    #ChaseForBook9

    ReplyDelete
  78. @Ink it is, highly overrated.
Derek is awesome. I asked him was he going to make the monster hunters book that they asked Flecter to illistrate the one with all of the decapitated dead people but
    sadly he's not.

    #chaseforbook9

    ReplyDelete
  79. @Taia: Oh. Thanks. :) :) :)

Right. :) I have my first draft of my English written, but it's like 300 more words than I can write in the time and needs to be improved. :)

    *goes gloomily to improve it*

    #ChaseForBookNine

    ReplyDelete
  80. @Taia I had the same problem last week...then eventually I wrote a story during my exam! :)

    #chaseforbook9

    ReplyDelete
  81. Serious msd now..

    Hm.
    So.
    Life.
    Yes.

OH! I'm exempt for my overall vocab quiz in my English class. My teacher did "the Hunger Games", and drew two names from a jar... And throughout the whole year we tried to get our names in there more and more with each perfect score per quiz. I got my name drawn,..

And now I don't have to take the test! Woo!

    ReplyDelete
  82. @Star: Yay! And, good luck!

I think mine ended up only around 960-ish words, when I did it, but I guess you have different specifications and whatnot, maybe. We didn't have any kind of a word count, I don't think. But exam boards and stuff, so idk.
I managed in the time given though. I think. I don't remember how much of a rush it was, though.

But, looking at 'gloomily', I'll say if you're not enjoying what you're doing, it's a lot harder to do, in general. But improving makes it better which means more content with which means more enjoying/liking, so, idk what my point was supposed to be. :P

My year nine one, AFTER I'd cut it down (by about 1300 words, I think) so it was even acceptable to hand in was over 3,400 words. xD
We didn't do those in controlled conditions, though. It was just an assignment task which was assessed but not for anything important. :P

    I just thought that earlier today, sooo . . . :P

@Taia: In your eight, we had to write a ghost story in as much time as we wanted. I did eight pages, typed, single space. :)
    I went totally off-plan with it. :P

    @Mara: D:
You're lucky you have people who'd text you, though. :P I never really text anyone, so nobody really texts me, and only like five people in school have my number . . . XD Five people out of 330 in the year group. Heh.

  118. We did? Oh, I didn't know what fabulous actually meant, I just loved it so much that I used it...

    ReplyDelete
  119. Thrust! Hi! :)

    @Star: *hands her a cookie* :/
Sometimes it's really hard to drop a word count, especially because as you remove words it sometimes could deteriorate the quality of the story, sometimes, kind of, because there aren't enough words for what's happening, and it's so difficult to get rid of phrases and things when you like them so much. I think that was partly why so little happened in mine, because it meant that I didn't have to cut things out, if I'm using a large number of words for such few occurrences, kind of?
But- maybe there's somethings you can get rid of and replace with other something/s, which give the same/similar effects, or different effects all together. And kind of pulling it apart into sections and arranging and experimenting.
And that way you're not getting rid of good sentences from every paragraph, but removing a paragraph and then adding different good sentences, kind of?
Just a suggestion, but I have no idea how it'd work out. ^^

OMGG Fabi, I don't have words for that. I think it's so great. How did you even- aah! IT's so simple but complex and just alternatively existing and I love it.

    Still around 300 more than I can manage, but . . . :P

    @Lantern: Well . . . it's amazing. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
If that was in a story, I would just read that page over and over and remember it and tell people about it. :)
    Funny . . . things seem different in story-terms . . .
I suppose because stories are stories. :)

    @Mushroom: That's fine. :)

    #ChaseForBookNine

  132. @Eilís: Oh, right. Well, maybe you could get a couple of bits of tree-y branches or something, rather than an entire tree? That'd be lighter, I guess. :P
Good idea, though. I like trees. :)

I always kind of wanted to cut a series of holes in clothing and then thread a cable of Christmas lights along the inside, with the lights protruding from the gaps, but obvious flaws include the need to be plugged into a power supply, constantly, and also electrocution. :P

    Sweet, Star! :)

    ReplyDelete
  137. @Taia: What Hunter is. :)

    I don't think Hunter'd do it, though.

They can convert energy, so they wouldn't get electrocuted (in theory. If they weren't focusing . . .), and they could just charge the lights from their own energy. :)
It'd be fairly exhausting, though. :(
