Laura was meant to come round yesterday to pick up her copy, but instead she's calling round tonight. While I wait for her to arrive, I've been going over the word counts to all the books so far. I'm very surprised by the first four books— for some reason, I thought everything I've written had been over 80,000 words. Apparently not.
Skulduggery Pleasant was 67,393 words.
Playing With Fire was 69,683.
The Faceless Ones was 69,689.
Dark Days was 77,335.
And now we see the numbers start to jump...
Mortal Coil was 104,000.
Deathbringer was 118,000.
Kingdom of the Wicked was 134,765.
And the second draft of Last Stand of Dead Men is coming in at a back-breaking 156,688 words. Basically, it's twice the length of Dark Days.
I don't know how long it'll be after the edit, but hopefully I'll be able to trim it down a little.

HIGH SCHOOL IS BETTER.
No offense to primary schools. I disliked my primary school. It was worse socially and it was SO DAMN SMUG. Oh llok, we're outstanding. Oh look, we're going to do all this special stuff nobody gives a damn about that doesn't beneift or affect anybody and is just using up your money for nothing just to prove how outstanding we are, coz we're outstanding. Yay, let's have an aerial photo so all the kids can get bored and hurt their necks and their eyes, because we're outstanding. Yes, you may have to spend money buying this useless phot nobody cares about for no reason, but oh well. Oh yay, since we got FIVE outstandings in a row, let's make everyone on their class ordinary photos hold up number fives just to rub it in everyone' faces. I know, let's force all the kids to all write the same way in the same pen so we look neat and outstadning. No, I do not care that everyone in year nine previously from our school, every single person Star knows, has crap handwriting because it's a very deteriotive handwriting and seeing as we made everyone write the same, everyone ended up with a jumbled of their own handwriting and our handwriting that is just sort of a messy jumble. Yes, it's neat in primary when we have handwriting lessons every week, and yay, because we don't care about the kids and how neat their handwriting is in life, we just care about their neat handwriting making the school look good. Oh, hey, let's organise three billion school trips that are not connected to education and are a waste of parent's money just so we can look outstanding and exotic. I know, let's get everyone in the school to paint traveller caravans without teaching them anything about travellers, because we don't give a damn about travellers but ebing involved makes us look more multi-cultural. Ooh, let's teach everyone work for three years above so that when Star in year nine comes home from school and says hey we did this today it was so cool her sister in year six goes yeah we did that last year, completely ruining the surprises and meaning that the primary kids will have to sit there relearning a whole load for years (seriously, my sister has gone hal the stuff I do, whether ibe cool or not). Ooh, you know that school barbeque we have every year at the end of the summer term? You know how it's usually on the school premises and the parents just chill out on the grass, and all the year sixes pair/group up and have to make games? Yes, those games. You wait all through your school life to be in year six and make a game. It's very fun. Str's group did a bingo thingy with marbles and bingo balls and you got a sweet if you got a marble out the thing. Three rolls, a few pence for a go. Fun days. Yeah, that barbeque, that Star's getting carried away describing. I know, let's this year have it at a random farm, the field of which the village has the bonfire on on bonfire night. So all the parents won't be bothered to come, it'll take ages for the kids to walk down there and the years sixes won't be able to make their games. BRILLIANT idea! Makes so many people happier!
Erm . . . yeah. :P I dislike my old primary school.
They just got inspected by Oftstead, and I really hope they get lower than Outstanding, because I'd love to see the smug smiles wiped off their faces. :)
