I usually think up a story, then try and create suitable characters to fit in it . . .
I usually fail. And they'll never fit in quite right. Or have the right name. Or be the way I wanted them to be. It's so irritating . . .
Once you change one of the main characters, even just slightly, the whole story shifts.
Making up the characetrs first is probably the way to go, but I think doing that is utterly beyond me. :/
Usually I adapted one of the mny characters that are vaguely floating around my head, the veterans of many stories I have put them in. Although they're different in each story. They weren't important stories that ever got written down . . .

I enjoy making characters, but fitting them into a story is always difficult, whichever I create first.
Names are another thing I struggle with. I can never get it quite right. In the beginning, it's fun thinking through name possibilities, but it gets pretty tedious, after a while.
'Taia' was only supposed to be a temporary thing, for me, until I worked out something better. After two years, I'm not sure it's going to change. :P
Luce, can you write them out? The pictures weren't great quality & hard to read... o.o I'm also half blind and can't find my glasses, but thats nothing to do with it, I swear :p

I just read through one of two chapters from a story I wanted to write, a while back, and realised I have that very problem. The name I chose for my protagonist is awful. It just doesn't fit the part, at all. I specifically remember wanting to use it because of a song, and trying to build a character to fit behind it.
That did not work.
I'm now going to think of a better name, and then make some drastic changes to this thing. :)

@Taia: My problem is writing down the few ideas I have. I make up stories in my head whenever I walk. So I make up a lot quicker than I write. Mostly I make up rubbish, and I skip loads of finer detail, but still.
I have this big story in my head right now. If 'right now' equals months . . . and a few years, actually. It's changed so, so much from when I first had my first part of it. It's completely unrecogniseable. I have some goodish stuff in tehre amidst the rubbish. But it isn't getting all written down. :P
When I'm writing stuff, I often can't make this work right so this will happen and arghhhhhhhhhhh. -_- And then it goes and changes. Argh.

If you look on a map of England, you will see sort of small crack on the right, pretty North, of course above the giant blob sticking out the side. It's the biggest crack on there in that area, but still small. That crack is the River Humber. I live near there, just above the crack. Basically, you've found the Humber, you've found me. Yay!

Just remembered art of my dream...
Derek came to my house. He had two suitcases. I died. I let him in and gave him some tea and jammy dodgers. My sister came in and screamed "WHY IS THERE A PEDO IN MY HOUSE?" I punched her because Derek Landy is not a pedo but my God. Sister died.
Derek stayed the night and gave me posters. He slept in dead sister's room. He signed all my books again and we took heaps of photos. I took him to Maccas and he had no clue what it was. Until he realized that Aussie MacDonalds was called Maccas here.
I took him to Kids Town and we played tiggy on the playgrounds. He couldn't catch me. I was so happy. I then started to wrestle him and then he got me off and said something about being a black belt. I laughed and then he laughed, then I laughed harder at his Irish laugh and then he laughed harder at my Aussie laugh.
I took him to a lake and we went water skiing... It was best dream ever...

Hm... I dedicate this page to... *pauses for a long while, thinking*
I dedicate this page to emotions. Don't loose them. A mage's life is unnaturally long, and sooner or later everyone reaches a point where they feel emotions just aren't worth it- especially those who live lives as long as ours. But they are. If you give up your emotions, you give up yourself. In the end, it's just not worth it. Even when you go through some tragedy so great it makes your whole aura disappear, you have to keep fighting through it. Because as long as you're alive, you can learn to feel again, no matter how hopeless you're convinced life is. All of you are capable of emotion. It gives your lives value. I've seen how you all try so hard to help each other, and constantly strive to become better people. That counts for a Hell of a lot, regardless of how much or little credit you give yourselves for it. Hold on to whatever that goodness is. The world needs as much of that as possible, to make up for people like me.
