. . . It's my mum's birthday present. :P Coz in the car today as we were driving past one she said she likes those signs with a present holding out their hand and shouting. She also said she'd like one at home so when, for example, my brother wanted another biscuit she could say no by holding the sign up to him. Then I said she could make one. She said she couldn't be bothered. I said I could make one if she liked. She said if I eeally want to. I recently realised I could do it as a birthday present as her birthday's six days before Zaf's and three days before my blogversary.

Down With The Sickness, Mara, is a song by Disturbed. It's also the song infected by an alien mind-controlling virus, says the girl who needs a life, aka me.
An alien virus came to this planet with the intention of taking over it. This virus is a sound virus. The virus lives in sound. Half an hour in the maximum tune it could live in, and thirty seconds is the minimum. The virus doesn't create sound, it just lives in it. If it wants to live in a new sound . . . it's a very complex process and the circumstances have to be just right, but the virus basically imprints onto a new tune. Actually, the virus is inactively everywhere on this planet - fast reproduction - but it only becomes active in the tune.
This virus takes over people's brains. Every time the tune is sounded, the virus travels along the sound waves, slipping through the gaps in the particles (the virus is very small) and moving along. If one of the viruses (there's lots of them, but they're all the same variation - so far. Can alien viruses mutate? :/) lands on a human, it will release toxins. These toxins head for the brain, and when there they basically slide inside your cells (super smallness, remember) and sabotage them. They're intelligent, these toxins, and they also carry a formula each. They insert the formala into a cell nucleus, rewriting the already existing information. The formula is very similar to the old information - similar enough to know how to keep the body working. The cells, however, replicate like ordinary cells, meaning that as old normal cells die off many will be replaced by the virusifyed cells.
The virus is then stuck on the human and cannot spread unless the human utters the tune that the virus inhabits. Then it could spread to any nearby human.
It also affects animals.
The entire tune has to be uttered to activate the virus. Once the virus is activated, it won't deactive, though it will die after 24 hours. However, inactivated particles are everywhere. They reproduce real fast.
You cannot gain immunity to this virus. Firstly, it's alien. Our bodies cannot fight it off. They don't even know they have to. It doesn't register on our systems. Secondly, nobody survives it.
You will at first feel no different when you have the virus. But then, you'll start feeling odd. You won't be able to focus properly. Your thoughts will be disconnected, wandering. You'll start to get odd urges to do things. You'll grow desensitized, won't really care about people, not even those close to you. Everything will start to feel fuzzy. You'll not really realise what you're doing. You might be scared, or even terrified, when you first realise something's up with your brain; but then it will fade out of focus like everything else. You'll spend a few days chasing odd thoughts, trying to remember things, feeling a bitas though you've got your eyes closed thinking whikst you fall asleep with you might actually be doing an exam at school - or, the virus will be doing your exam for you. Yon't notice when your free will is gone. You remaining thoughts will eventually just drift away, and you'll turn off.
The virus doesn't infect every human who hears the song. They only latch onto one if they're lucky. And sometimes the virus dies before it can take over any brain cells.
How come nobody has noticed? Well, the viruses can act just as normal. An imposter in your body. No, people won't notice anything wrong after the virus takes over (you'll be acting oddly just before it does, though). No, nobody will see something different in your eyes. No.
Eventually the virus will have taken over everyone on the planet and the aliens will invade and make the virus-people their slaves.
The tune they have imprinted themselves on is, of course, Down With The Sickness. LISTENING TO IT COULD BE BAD. SINGING IT IS WORSE COZ THE SONG IS INSIDE YOUR MOUTH AND THROAT. STAY AWAY FROM IT IF YOU WANT TO LIVE. AND DON'T TRUST ANYONE. THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL WHO IS HUMAN.
