I drove more than 800 km the last two days to get the fifth book in Germany :D I got it on an island in the middle of nowhere where I incidentally(dictionary XD) picked up my Mom.
I´ve already read the fifth and sixth in English, but I must have them ALL in both languages and only the sixth in English is my own!!! But this you will sign on Saturday!! The Frankfurt Book Fair will be incredible!! I´m so excited!! Sorry for all the exclamation marks but that’s me!! :D

Derek, I am here going to write a letter as to why I think I should win (for both contests). This may have absolutely no affect on my chances, but whatever. I'm doing it anyways.
I love your books. I really do. I'm sure you've noticed. And, added to that fact, I also collect them. I collect the different covers, I collect hardcover and paperback, even the exact same book simply because I can. Reading them has changed me as a person. I have a different attitude, different comebacks, different thoughts, an entire different PERSONALITY. This is all because of YOU, Master Derek. And I am thanking you for this, I truly am.
I would like to win the first contest because I'd like to be known. I want to be an author. I love to write, I'm actually good at it (or at least good enough for an honours class), and I think being an author would be a great deal of fun. And by having a sentence, or line, as you put it, published by an amazing author who I love? It would be unimaginably exciting for me. I wouldn't be able to contain it. The Great Derek Landy, publishing my line. Like I said, it would be amazing. It'd also help me, in a way, be more open to reading my writing aloud, and allowing others to see it. I think it's fear of criticism, to be honest. And fear of people liking it. A hard fear to explain, but a fear nonetheless.
I'd like to win THIS contest because I am a collector. I collect your books, and anything that relates to them. I have 2 American Scepter of the Ancients and one of the collector's hardcover of the UK Skulduggery Pleasant; I have one American and one UK Playing with Fire, both paperback; 2 hardcover American copies of the Faceless Ones and one UK paperback; limted edition hardcover Dark Days, regular hardcover Dark Days, paperback Dark Days (all the original cover design); one paperback Mortal Coil; and one hardcover Death Bringer. I also have the Playing with Fire short story printed out, as well as the beginning chapters of Death Bringer, which have been taped to my wall. I have T-shirts with writing all over them for Skulduggery, a poster I made for my favourite quotes, Pictures of the characters printed on photopaper in frames on my walls, hats like Skulduggery's, a clock made especially for me with the character pictures instead of numbers... I could go on longer, I swear. Although, as great as my collection may be, I fear it is lacking something - the books signed by YOU. If I had those I would have an ultimate collection. But for now it's incomplete. And being an American... That makes it a great deal harder for getting signed copies. And I wish it wasn't so hard, but it is, so there isn't much I can do about that.
I just want you to keep these things in mind. You don't have to, I suppose, but I'd really appreciate it.

I did everything needed for the Facebook application. Then I signed up for your blog and wrote something really long. And then the internet failed when I went to post it. I nearly died.
With that aside, thank you so much for the contest. Really. I don't care how slim a chance I have, I had to enter it.
How did I ever pass up this amazing book the first time? How? Because I'm in America. I looked at the cover, I read the back, I thought, "Foo" because the cover portrayed it as rather childish in my eyes. I'm eighteen. I am a book critic. Then I found it online and saw how popular it was and thought "I'll give it a shot". I drew back my bow, aimed, and hit the bullseye dead on. Perfect shot, perfect aim. I was hooked. I needed book two. Then three. Then four... Then four... Then four...
Why do we not have book four yet? Or five? Or six? Why? My sister ordered book four for me for Christmas, and... it was hard to read because of the page formatting. The margins were too big. Sorry! But they were and they were distracting. The emptiness did not fit well with the gripping action and witty dialogue. I nearly felt the need to illuminate the edges. Didn't, but I wanted to.
However, I digress to an extent. I still need to rave about the sheer genius of the plot, the detail of the character, the gripping detail that makes me want the next page, the next chapter, the next book! Most importantly, and keep in mind that I am still stuck hanging from book four, the fact that it is a book about a teenage girl embarking on an imaginative journey and you, Mr. Landy, did not push the parents out of the picture. Bravo. I applaud you. Give you a standing ovation. Not many writers seem to remember the parents and when they do it's like, "Oh, um, they died" or "They gave her permission" or something sappy and overused like that. Your books are truly five-star worthy.
I apologize for my long oration, but it is something that needed to be said, that I have wanted to say for a very long time. I wanted to write a letter as I prefer that mode of discourse to the more modern albeit faster options, but I did not know where to send it. So my letter idea failed.
So here I am on your blog, posting about how much you have inspired me with your stories.
PS. Sprinheeled is my favorite by far. He is so beautifully unique, as is everyone else, but I like him the most.
I failed to be truly exact, didn't I. Exactly what I did:
First I went and saved the new American cover for the eBook onto my laptop with the flashing Skulduggery background (love it!). Next I added it to my Facebook profile under the album "Character Favorites" and then made it my profile picture. I posted the link with much much much enthusiasm and came back here. When I got back here, it took me awhile to figure out how to sign up, then how to post. The internet failed to post my first post so I wrote out a second post and made sure to save it on a sticky note in case I ran into the same problem, which I did multiple times. Finally, I managed to post my long laud about the book, had signed out, and was ready turn off everything when I realized that you had said to narrate EXACTLY what I had done. Anxious that I had not been exact enough, I wrote out this post and was sure to be over-exact.

I know you said you would choose 10 winners at random but I really feel that Kal should be one of them.

Hello Derek, you mention above that you don't understand twitter, I know exactly where you are coming from & now this is all new to me too. May be it's an age thing! Well I'm doing this for my son as I know he would love to win the signed books and poster, we were going to travel to London in September for your book signing but unfortunately I was unwell and couldn't get him there so to say he was disappointed would be an understatement even though he told me he understood. He absolutely loves your books, it's down to you, your writing and Skulduggery that he has starting taking an interest in reading again. He has been taking and reading all his Skulduggery books into school and has introduced them not only his friends (who have started to read them) but also to his teacher (who is so impressed with the impact that they have made with the boys interest in reading that she is going to have it now as a suggestion for her other pupils. Anyway I had better stop as I could go on all day as I am so thrilled. I have 'tweeted' & 'facebooked' the link as you have asked and therefore would be very grateful if you could enter me into the competition on behalf of my son (Ben). Kind regards and thank you.

I've been reading the blog for a long time now, but only just started commenting So I wouldn't know.

I have major ocd when it comes to collecting things, ESPECIALY books and or posters, so either of those would probably make me squee with pure happiness!!!
Especially because Ive been reading the books since it was the only the first one out, and it's my favourite series.
