With Desolation only a few days away, I am still hard at work on the third and final Demon Road book.
From the beginning, I wanted these books to be as streamlined as possible — I wanted them short and punchy. Now, I completely failed with Demon Road, as it was a pretty big book, and only got slightly better with Desolation, which is shorter, but it looks like I'm finally getting the hang of this with Book 3, which will hopefully be the perfect length.

Giant (harmless) scary winged insect in my room.
It is too high up to reach, so I let it be for the night.
I wake up frequently to check its location.
The next day, I leave the door open and darken the room in the hope that it will find a light and leave.
That night, it is nowhere to be seen.
I am relieved.
In the extreme early morning, I decide to go to bed, looking forward to the uninterrupted slumber I can enjoy now.
Then, I see it.
It has not left.
It is moving a lot, as though it might charge at me.
I leave and come back with a chair and an effective insect spray.
I climb to the high ceiling and spray, willing the poison to reach this damned fly.
It does.
The insect drunkenly hovers to a much more reachable place.
I slam a tissue down on it and through it in the bin.
I put everything away, relieved.
I come back into my room.
IT IS ALIVE.
It is crawling, having somehow escaped from the fate I had forced upon it.
I slam the tissue down once more.
I crush the ball of paper with all my might.
IT IS ALIVE STILL.
I crush it again.
ALIVE.
Again.
ALIVE.
AGAIN.
Until finally I resign to the probability that this bug is immortal, and must be left elsewhere.
I put it in the kitchen bin and close the lid.
Once again, I am going to sleep at a highly unreasonable hour.
But at least I can sleep easy.

Just coming in to address the backlash I got for my bug story:
I used to live in a room thoroughly infested with bugs. If you do not kill a flying bug, it WILL land on your face and feast on it. I once turned my back to undress and when I looked again there was a rich assortment of bugs crawling all over my pillow. They want to crawl into your mouth, that's all they want. And they know what they're doing. Don't let them fool you with their seemingly random and innocent behaviour. I've lived that life. I've seen the truth.
And this was no ant with wings: this was a beast.
Spiders are okay to hang with because they mind their own business. For a winged insect, YOU ARE THE BUSINESS.

I want to build a space station in EVE Online. For my organisation, TEST Alliance and their allies.
A space station that, if I were to start building it, would completely destabilise the in-game economy and game balance and would make thousands of people angry at me with thousands more coming to defend me.
EVE players don't screw around, they find out where you live, go to where you live and take out the local electrical grid to make you lose.
But my biggest problem is that the station is completely out of my price range.

The station is really expensive, I'm asking for $3.8 million, which also brings in the politics of whether something so expensive should even be built, and who should build and control it, and what would it FEEL like to completely destroy something that costs nearly four million dollars.

Or it could go to entertainment. Some people listen to music. Some destroy hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of spaceships. I'd also like to point out that while the in-game currency has a link to real-life currency, that doesn't mean all of it is obtained by buying it irl. It's partly earned through gameplay, and people choose to invest it in-game rather than turn it to real world money.
An equivalent would be if you bought twelve months of Netflix, and got a free voucher for another month. Would you sell that voucher for $3 and donate that money, or would you just use it on Netflix and not bother doing anything else with it?

Like I mean, people who never talk to anyone online will probably say that it can't be a real friendship unless you've met them face to face, but for some people (abd I include my younger self in this category) their closest friends are online and to them the friendship feels intensely real. Or like, whenever people try to yell me that such-abd-such fictional character isn't real, I just say "I know," but personally I feel that despite the fact they're not, like, alive, they're an existing person just as much as I am because regardless of if they'Re real or not, they're like, a person.

Oh, and EVE has integrated some sort of thing for identifying proteins in cells. The EVE community has categorised the amount of proteins that would take a scientist 163 years. They did all that in one month. So, y'know, kinda helping people more than by watching TV?
And, again the station is but a dream at this point, it's not likely one will EVER get built.
And the funds are usually gathered by large organisations, one of the largest has 40,000 members. That comes out to $100 per person, which, in a year of playing, is more than reasonable.
But, again, this is but a dream, nobody will be able to build this station because it will literally destroy the economy if somebody tried.

Yeah, I've probably over exaggerated the amounts people spend, just because it's worth that much doesn't mean people paid that much, it just means it can be sold for that much.
You know, kind of how you can have a poster you paid $5 for that you can sell for $5,000 because you got it signed by the cast or something like that - you didn't pay that much, it's worth that much, but you wouldn't sell it simply because it's yours and you like it and it's important to you, even though it's just a piece of paper.
