DEMON ROAD

Ladies. Gentlemen. Minions.

Behold.

Wow.

We're still working on it, still altering and changing the little details, still tweaking... but I really wanted to get it out before it's leaked.

And let's face it, it is BRILLIANT.

You can start trembling now.

@Star It's a company, though. Sure, you have free will. If you discriminate, you can do so as a person, and lose your job, or do it as a company, and get fined for a thousand cake's worth of money.

Not here, but yes Sophia, it is. I should probably say that I'm completely for gay marriage. But if you live in a country where to the majority of people think that marriage is something between a man and a woman, you live in a country where that is the case, no? And really, if you want to get married with your same sex partner, maybe you should love somewhere more accepting of who you are? Clearly these aren't your people, or if you think they are, you aren't theirs.

Not here, sorry.

@Sophia No offense to you, but your last message was about as aggressive as that of a person who's angry at Ireland for legalising gay marriage.

They did it.

It was illegal.

Now it isn't.

No need to go all aggressive.

Inky Flame said...

(hmmm
lets change the topic

how about inspirational people?)

(yes it should be legal but it wasn't anywhere always so we had to vote on it they had to vote on it be glad it turned out the way it did, if they voted and turned out no imagine how angry you'd be.)

@Chloe Why does 1 + 1 = 2?

Inky Flame said...

If someone demanded proof that 1+1=2 is true what would you do? Would you get an object and place it next to another object and then count them? One might argue that that doesn’t prove that 1+1=2 because 1+1=2 is a necessary truth and you cannot get necessity from experience (as per the history of philosophy). If one thought that all knowledge comes from experience one might then, like Quine, think that it is possible that we could have experience that dis-confirmed mathematics. For instance David Rosenthal has argued that if we ever had irrefutable counting evidence (i.e. widespread, re-created and independently confirmed) that 1+1=2 were false then we would have to admit that it was false and so mathematic is contingent on experience. Yikes!

(if one is a singularity and 2 is a duplex then to half a duplex would bring it to a singularity there for reversing that gives you a duplex so to add 2 singularities must give you a duplex by definition, it is no longer alone.)

Commander Sophia Keating (N7 Operative and Council Spectre) said...

(Star - And who are the majority? Rendering what I said perfectly valid. Society is basically saying, "We care more about the opinions of what straight people think you should be allowed to do rather than what any kind of logic would say you should be able to do already". Gay marriage is allowed in Ireland now - not because it was logical, or sensible, or right (although a change in moral standards did form a part of it) - it happened because heterosexual people allowed homosexual couples to get married... And we should all forget that it was nothing to do with them in the first place, and focus instead on what a stand it is for equality. No. It happened because heterosexual people have had a change in moral standards. If the majority of people decide that gay marriage should be banned - it won't be allowed again. It is not equality. All it shows is how meaningless the opinions of minorities are in society. Equality does in no way, shape or form come into the equation, other than a vague mention of it in the end result.)

Commander Sophia Keating (N7 Operative and Council Spectre) said...

Liliana: *she tilts her head a little* It definitely does not feel to be just decoration. *when the mist reaches all through the house, there is a pulse of purple energy before it dissipates* It is done.

Lily: Why?

Feraaaa32 said...

sophia: true. That's why dictatorship can actually be beneficial...CAN...if there's someone who treats equality as a priority, than it's good for people...but then again, all dictators become corrupted by power sooner or later, even though its initial purpose was to get the country to a stage where democracy can be allowed.

Zanida Laufeydottir Queen of Asgard (Zafira Kerias) said...

The HYDRA symbol.

(you do realize gay people are aloud to vote right? ... they had a say too the fact that straight people are having the right say does say something for equality because it shows that they are growing to realize ok it's a thing and they should be allowed to be happy and allowed to have the same rights as us. we cannot I repeat CANNOT just expect everyone to just drop their pants and go ok gays are here lets make it legal without a vote people would be mad, like I said earlier their are countries that literally will kick us out if they know. Be glad their is one more country in the world that is accepting us. sorry it annoys mebecause it almost sounds as if you are arguing against the vote)

Zanida Laufeydottir Queen of Asgard (Zafira Kerias) said...

Derek and Laura are watching Eurovision and omfg the tweets...

Star Inkbright said...

@Sophia: Once again - if you change the rules and allow a law to be passed that the majority of people don't agree with . . . well, that's democracy and freedom down the drain.
The majority of people are heterosexual. That is a fact of life. In a democratic vote where the majority rules, heterosexuals will have more say. And if it's a vote where the minority rules? Then it's not democratic.

Feraaaa32 said...

con: i don't think she was arguing against the vote, but even if she was, why did you get angry?

Trip Castalan, Lord of The Hobbits, The Fourth Most Popular Folk/Parody Banana Thief In The Land said...

Sure, you could look at it that way, if you simply want to believe you're being oppressed and that things will never get better.

See, the heterosexual majority did not 'allow' homosexuals to get the law changed. They agreed with them and helped them to do it.

Or you could say that the Irish people as a whole agreed that they wanted people to have the same legal rights regardless of who they loved and gt the law of the land changed to suit its inhabitants.

Feraaaa32 said...

star: yeah, she kinda said that. And i said that's why dictatorship can be a good thing sometimes.

Feraaaa32 said...

with democracy, the rate of change is way too slow. There has to be someone who takes control of a situation sometimes.

Trip Castalan, Lord of The Hobbits, The Fourth Most Popular Folk/Parody Banana Thief In The Land said...

It's the phrasing, fera. It's so aggressive about people who agree with her. As if they shouldn't have the audacity to help people who aren't like them and are oppressed.

Star Inkbright said...

Mmmmh. Nah. Democracy thanks.

Zanida Laufeydottir Queen of Asgard (Zafira Kerias) said...

Yeah well its state by state here in America.

Feraaaa32 said...

oh i see. Yeah, i did get that kind of impression of the phrasing, but i just ignored it.

Trip Castalan, Lord of The Hobbits, The Fourth Most Popular Folk/Parody Banana Thief In The Land said...

Forced change is not real change. When you strongarm reform it leads to horrendous damage to a country. If anyone illustrates this it is Mao.

Thank you, Trip.

A lot of people who aren't gay (hello!) are actually NICE and wish for these laws to be passed.

Anonymous said...

(because don't argue against something so good... it happened and Gays can now get married it's an amazing feat. yes I agree it would be amazing if everyone just went oh ! ok and blooming accepted it but the reality is people are scared of change some even grab their little books and forget what all of the passage tells them apart to stone us NOT ALL BUT IT HAPPENS -Leviticus something 14 ?? right ?? I dunno anyway be happy about it Russia hates gays Egypt won't let you in if you're gay can get killed for it in some parts of africa. be happy there is one more country that realizes we are people and people deserve rights....

give me something to draw please b4 it turns into a rant and argument.)

Commander Sophia Keating (N7 Operative and Council Spectre) said...

(Fera, yes. A dictatorship is more efficient than democracy and if done correctly, more successful. It is just that no one has yet done it in a way I would consider successful.

Conductor - I am aware homosexuals in Ireland could vote. But in a vote, the majorities are important - because democracy - and heterosexuals are the majority. As I said further up there - gay marriage should be a standard, not a privilege. Yes, the result of the vote was good but I am arguing against the reasons behind the vote and the fact that the vote even exists. It should have not been voted upon. It should have already existed. And even if it didn't, they should have been able to make it legal without a vote without complaints. In any equal society, that could have easily happened.)

Feraaaa32 said...

star: not in every situation. With how the world is right now, i think there should be one person, who has the right ideas, that takes over everything and molds all the countries together and all the people.

Sorry fera, I just laughed so loud I nearly woke up my sister nextdoor. Dictatorships rely on fear and strength. No matter how well intentioned one is, you will never be free. Sure you'll be equal, but you'll be equal in subjegation.

Feraaaa32 said...

trip: Did you laugh at your own existence? because you know what i said is true? i am not saying have dictatorship forever-only until society and the country is fixed up.

Commander Sophia Keating (N7 Operative and Council Spectre) said...

(The fact that people had to vote on giving a group of people the same rights as everyone else is a complete failure for democracy in my eyes. I am a rather large critic of the system anyway, given its inefficiency and the method of, "Go with the majority, they must be right", which in no way takes into account humanity's tendencies for self destruction and utter stupidity. Yes, the vote may have ended with a good result, but it does not make up for the failure of the system. That being said, I am a critic of the vast majority of systems.)

Anonymous said...

(yes I understand but what if just what if the majority didn't want it? that could start a war if something was just decreed without consent or even a vote. 1,201,607 votes to 734,300. That’s 62.1% yes to 37.9% no. The total turnout was 60.5%

that's 38% basically that didn't want it plus 40% of the total voting population that didn't vote ... if you add that up and split the 40% evenly then that's roughly 1121420 people willing to stand up and say no! and start war because someone just said "it's allowed deal with it" ... could get ugly therefore let it happen.)

Commander Sophia Keating (N7 Operative and Council Spectre) said...

(Fera - Dictatorships, like the death penalty, are situational. They work with some countries, but others less so. Without perhaps fifty years of strengthening on the government's part, it would essentially never succeed in England.)

Zanida Laufeydottir Queen of Asgard (Zafira Kerias) said...

Trip is right, dictatorship is too risky, power corrupts a person, so that much power? It's unwise.

Trip Castalan, Lord of The Hobbits, The Fourth Most Popular Folk/Parody Banana Thief In The Land said...

Sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but I'm laughing at your naïveté. Societies and countries are giant problems that in solving create new problems. My Mao point earlier is relevant because even if you give someone total power, while you do indeed cut out the problem of getting a majority to agree on something, you create more problems. With Mao for instance, nobody liked the idea of wearing uniforms and his grand schemes led to overpopulation and mass starvation. You can still see the scars of his reign today in the one child policy.

In solving problems you only make new ones. Best we do it slowly in a way that most of us can agree on than fast in a way only a privalaged few need to.

Feraaaa32 said...

zaf: perhaps it corrupts the weak willed. Those that only have it so they can do something good with the country won't be corrupted. Of course, there hasn't been any one who has done it the right way.

@Sophia: People may vote wrongly /in your eyes/. What makes your opinion more valid than anyone else's?

People know that people should get basic rights, and that is shown by the answer of the vote.

Also, ot's not the idea that the majority is right. It's the idea of doing what everyone wants, and if not everyone, then most people.

(the way the country is ruled just now a dictatorship if it even managed to take down the monarchy would instantly be seen as a threat and England invaded.)

Trip Castalan, Lord of The Hobbits, The Fourth Most Popular Folk/Parody Banana Thief In The Land said...

World starvation? This is not a crisis we are dealing with. Are there people starving? Yes. Would a dictator send them food? Of course not.

I would say that if you're advocating a totalitarian state and don't want to study literally any part of 20th century history, because at every point in that you can look somewhere and find issues related to them, read 1984. George Orwell's first hand experience of the horror that was a dictatorship of the prolatariat and those that advocated one really shines through.

Also, it's a gripping and atmospheric novel written by a masterful author.

Dictatorships can, in theory, be a lotmore successful and efficency, bit they have a VERY low success rate.

And seeing as how Ireland is not a dictatorshipped country, the law had to be passed via democratic means.

Look. I realise that a lot of people say to minorities 'hey you got some rights what more do you want,' and I realise what a sucky argument that is. But the fact is, on this issue, equality happened. I don't see how you can ask for more than that.

(Star - I may not expect them to agree with me, but I expect them not to discriminate. That is something I expect in societies which seem to pride themselves on equality, at least.)

Feraaaa32 said...

star: but then, why should others be able to decide what you are allowed to do, if opinions are equal? i say we should either have anyone do whatever they want, which would be chaos, but still better than democracy. I don't see how it would get us anywhere. As long as people are so unorganized.

Trip Castalan, Lord of The Hobbits, The Fourth Most Popular Folk/Parody Banana Thief In The Land said...

Okay then. You don't want to use the 20th century to demonstrate why dictatorships in any form never work? Then we'll go back to my argument that a solution always be get a a problem. That is definitely something we can learn from history. Surely a solution that the majority of people are happy with is better than one created by one person with little to no consultation who's ideas are never contradicted because they have power over life and death?

(dictatorship on a global scale would never work every country would be too busy trying to assert itself in the chaos trying to make themselves new top dog all the while people fighting the resistance to kill the leader it would turn into ww3 everyone would hate everyone and effectively because of the way war works no matter that outcome the other end we'd effectively be put back 20 years for stuff to properly assert it's self )

Trip Castalan, Lord of The Hobbits, The Fourth Most Popular Folk/Parody Banana Thief In The Land said...

Everyone's opinion is equal, so why is what one person wants to have the right to do more important than what fifty thousand people don't want them to?

Star Inkbright said...

@Sophia: Ehhhhh you think more highly of humanity than I do.

@Fera: Wha . . . ?
Democracy
makes
most people
happy.
(In theory)

Opinions are equal, but I think doing the thing most people want is better than either doing the thing one singular person wants or not doing anything.

Feraaaa32 said...

trip: again, you're not seeing into things, you're just seeing what's put in front of you. What if there was a dictator that actually had the right ideas? Just take the example of barack obama. He promised so many good things, and he said it's all democracy...do you see anything progressing forward in america? I don't.

Trip Castalan, Lord of The Hobbits, The Fourth Most Popular Folk/Parody Banana Thief In The Land said...

Again, I don't mean to be rude, but I don't really understand your arguments Con, because I can't really read them? Just a few mor full stops. But from what I gather I think what you're saying makes sense.

Commander Sophia Keating (N7 Operative and Council Spectre) said...

(Fera, I disagree with you.

I do support the idea of an extended UN, with representatives from all countries and religions to create a set of laws which the entire world would be subjected to - including things like human rights, gay marriage, healthcare, etc. It may be too idealistic, but if you actually allowed the UN to actually take some form of decisive action, it would not be too far away.)

Star Inkbright said...

@Fwra: Also, all opinions are equal, but you couldn't make gay marriage legal and illegal at the same time, whatever your system.

Unless it was every person for themselves, but then laws wouldn'r exist.

@Conductor: Eh, I'm sure it could be possible somehow. Just VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY unlikely to work out.

Feraaaa32 said...

trip: progress. People are whiny, and they're always going to be. Can't please everyone, but maybe at least could make life in general better.

Fabi S. - Fashion-Conscious Fire Wraith said...

Hello Trip.

Things are... Thing-like.

Idk, I'm kinda bored. Needed a break from sewing pointe shoes.

Hello Conductor, Star, Sophia, Fera, Mesopotamia, anyone else.

[hasn't read all of the debate but decides to offer opinions anyway]

On the subject of dictatorships--power corrupts. Like, seriously. It doesn't matter if the dictator means well at first, there will be people who disagree with them, and if they're a proper dictator, they will crush said people who disagree with them, and it usually goes from there.

Yes, it would be ideal if everybody thought that different sexual orientations were normal, and there was no need for any sort of laws to be passed. However, we don't live in an ideal world. [shrugs] I think that Ireland deciding to allow same-sex marriage is a good step, and I think complaining about the fact that there needed to be a law is a little bit pointless.

Feraaaa32 said...

sophia: perhaps. If they weren't so corrupted. But oh well.

Star Inkbright said...

@Sophia: Sounds fairly okayIsh.

@Fera: But no one can agree on what's right, so it would be impossible for someone to have all the right ideas. You would always be oppressing someone.

(some of the worst stuff in history was done with the right intentions and their for the right ideas, in theory Hitlers world if accomplished would have been heaven on earth... to the nazis, to everyone else, the people who disagreed it would be terrible doing shit work for food rashers or dead. there are always those who think it'd be a great idea but for one persons ideas to be gospel would be silencing a whole bunch of people and although I may not agree with them for not wanting gay marriage I agree they have the right to be heard.)

Trip Castalan, Lord of The Hobbits, The Fourth Most Popular Folk/Parody Banana Thief In The Land said...

Fera, earlier I said something that I think needs repeating. To believe that your position is infallible is to invalidate it.

Or I said something to that effect.

There is no such thing as 'the right ideas'. Everyone can be wrong.

Liberalism is not necessarily the correct mindset.

Commander Sophia Keating (N7 Operative and Council Spectre) said...

(Star - Perhaps. Or perhaps it is more a case of, "There are several matters in which if you disagree with me you automatically become my enemy". Such as murder being wrong, homosexuals being able to marry - some of the things I consider important. So rather than expecting everyone in the world not to discriminate, it is more, "If I am expected to talk to you and not punch you, you should not discriminate".)

Star Inkbright said...

Yes, Conductor.

Star Inkbright said...

@Sophia: Ah, but you see, now you're being narrownminded and refusing to listen to alternative views. ;)

Feraaaa32 said...

trip: but you can view things as "right ideas" if they avoid conflicts and provide a better future for everyone
Con: hitler was just a racist, superiorist prick. Can't always compare everything that "he though he had the right ideas" because he was practically insane.

Trip Castalan, Lord of The Hobbits, The Fourth Most Popular Folk/Parody Banana Thief In The Land said...

The UN has representatives from all countries that want to be there. It's basically a meeting place.

In addition, if we're letting religions in, can my religion Festovianism go? And is ISIS allowed a representative?

At, Fabi. And things do tend to be thing-like, don't they?

Feraaaa32 said...

star: perhaps, and if people are being raised into a certain idealism, they would be quicker to accept such ideas.

Fabi S. - Fashion-Conscious Fire Wraith said...

[nods]

And string-beans tend to be string-bean-like.

Star Inkbright said...

@Fera: People originally loved Hitler and thought he had all the right ideas. How do we know your 'right ideas' guy won't turn out the same as Hitler?

Feraaaa32 said...

star: most people didn't know about him torturing millions in a concentration camp.

Trip Castalan, Lord of The Hobbits, The Fourth Most Popular Folk/Parody Banana Thief In The Land said...

I've always been a rather large Churchill fan, and I have two quotes that I find quite relevant here. Forgive me if I misquote slightly, this is from memory:

"I disagree with what you say Sir, but I will hive my life for your right to say it."

"Democracy is the least awful form of government we have so far come across."

Star Inkbright said...

Ah yes. Hello Moss. Sadly, it took me until now to realise who you were, or I would have greeted you better. :)

(ah! sorry trip, I am kinda worked up, for obvious reasons. Everything just kind of flows in my mind naturally anyway, I don't see an end to a sentence as anything more than a reason to breathe. In my mind everything is linked and therefore fullstops/ commas are not needed as it all links together. Am I using them right lol I'm still thinking all over the place very anonying, mind wandering, things get away from me too easily, I don't use things I don't find to be important in sentence structure when i'm worked up.)

Star Inkbright said...

@Fera: He wasn't at first. How do you know your 'right idras' guy won't end up doing that?

Commander Sophia Keating (N7 Operative and Council Spectre) said...

(Star - Listening I could probably manage. Not punching them after I've listened would be... Unlikely.

Trip - Any recognised religion. And ISIS is an Islamic extremist group, not an actual religion. It is not even a religious denomination. It is a paramilitary terrorist organisation.)

Trip Castalan, Lord of The Hobbits, The Fourth Most Popular Folk/Parody Banana Thief In The Land said...

Exactly, fera. Right ideas guy will have to (although Hitler didn't have to do that, it certainly helped free up jobs) do things that might not be considered 'right'.

And tigers most tiger-like.
