As for those who cursed me for drawing it out so long, all I can say is... "heh." It amuses me to torture you, have you not learned this yet?
Over the coming weeks and months you'll be finding out a lot more about Demon Road, but I figured I'd answer a few questions now.
For starters, this is NOT the cover.

The ACTUAL cover, and the new cover artist, will be revealed in due time.
The release date is, as you can see, the 27th of August. Yesterday we said the 28th, but we figured out a way to get it to you a day earlier, and we took it.
Demon Road is both the name of the first book AND the name of the overall trilogy.
It WILL be a trilogy.
The books will be released 6 months apart. This is the way the publishing industry is going, to be honest — especially for children's books/YA. It's a hectic, bruising schedule, which will mean I'm gonna be overworked for the rest of the year, but hey... I'm quite looking forward to it, actually. I always felt bizarrely guilty for making you wait a year between Skulduggery books, so I'm going to see if this way is better.
Ah yes, and it will be Young Adult as well. There's nothing in it (yet) that is amazingly inappropriate for younger readers — maybe a word or two, slipping into older territory — but it's just the overall feel of the thing.
I'm TRYING to write shorter books. I was aiming for a Dark Days length, roughly 80,000 words. I have to write three of these books this year, and I can't have them spiralling out of control like Skulduggery did. I'm currently at 91,000 words. Hopefully I won't go above 100,000, which is roughly where Mortal Coil was. Hopefully.
Right now, I've only signed a contract with Harper Collins UK, which will publish the books in Ireland, the UK, Australia and New Zealand, and Canada. Over the next while, I'll be signing with foreign language publishers also — but for most of them, I'll need to show them the finished book. Harper UK trust me enough to sign a contract with what they've already seen of the book as I'm writing it.
There is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't be published in America as well.
Oh, and yes, I will be touring with Demon Road, but it's far too early to say where.

Uniform:
The wearing of some items of clothing relating to religious beliefs is acceptable as long as they are in the Academy colours. The Academy reserves the right to comment upon the suitability of the Academy uniform, hair and appearance.
The Academy blazer with Academy badge.
Plain white blouse/shirt with a conventional collar.
Mid-grey (not black or tight fitting) tailored trousers.
The Academy tie. (NB: There is a different design for each Year Group).
Footwear - shoes should be plain black and either flat soles or with a conventional low heel (2" or 5cm max). (Backless shoes, high heels and boots are not acceptable).
Socks should be white, black or grey. Tights should be black, grey or neutral.
Jewellery should be limited to a wrist watch.
For girls one pair of small stud earrings will be allowed.
There should be no visible piercings apart from ear studs.
Hair ornaments should be plain and in the Academy colours (i.e. claret, white, black or grey).
Make-up and nail varnish are inappropriate for the Academy.
Hair colour and style must be appropriate for the Academy. Hair should be no shorter than 6mm (No. 2). Hair should be one colour, subtle highlights are acceptable. Bands of colour are inappropriate. Should students choose inappropriate patterns, colours or styles the Academy reserves the right to ask a student to modify his/her hair.
NB: All students will require a yellow apron for food technology, which can be bought from the Academy.)

At our school we're allowed to wear makeup, girls are allowed to wear skirts (although they have a nightmare policing those . . . they can't be too short or nade from sretchy material0, the earrings aren't gendered, religious wear is allowed, and although we're not allowed hair in extremes of colour or style, no one obeys that rule and you do get the occasional people with purple hair or half a shaved head . . .
Also, I'm sure they allow baldness f it's for a medical reason . . . I know a guy who's bald because he has a disease that makes his hair fqll out. He gets mercilessly teased for being bald. -_-

(See, people must be attributing the angels that I speak about to the ones in the bible and/or the ones in other religions or mythologies. They are not the same. There are three things required to be an angel - you have to be from Phaestra's "family", so in effect, you have to be a daughter of Phaestra, Minerve, Berengaria or a few others. On top of that, you need to have good intentions, and you need Phaestra's confirmation. Phaestra's daughters are born naturally as angels, but Bethany is not technically Phaestra's daughter - Minerve is Bethany's mother. Bethany fled from Minerve to Phaestra when she was very young. Phaestra will have made Bethany into an angel to eradicate the darkness which will have still been present and to ensure Bethany could be trusted - so Phaestra, in effect, adopted her.
So all being an angel means is that you come from a particular family, you have good intentions and Phaestra has allowed you to become an angel. It does not mean that an angel falling in love is "far fetched". There is nothing stopping them.)
(Being an angel is a lot like being a king or queen - you have to be born into the right family and you have to be crowned. And it is not unusual for a royal to fall in love.)

And I think it's more about finding a religious angle that works for yourself, because everyone is an idividual and, as individuals, we are never goign to agree. And as such, you are never goign to agree with every single other individual in your religion . . . yes? You just stick with what works best."
