It was with much glee that I watched your reactions to the video yesterday.
As for those who cursed me for drawing it out so long, all I can say is... "heh." It amuses me to torture you, have you not learned this yet?
Over the coming weeks and months you'll be finding out a lot more about Demon Road, but I figured I'd answer a few questions now.
For starters, this is NOT the cover.
This is just a nifty holding image we give out so that people can pre-order if they want to. Hence the following link: http://www.pages01.net/harpercollinspublishersltd/DerekLandy-DemonRoad/
The ACTUAL cover, and the new cover artist, will be revealed in due time.
The release date is, as you can see, the 27th of August. Yesterday we said the 28th, but we figured out a way to get it to you a day earlier, and we took it.
Demon Road is both the name of the first book AND the name of the overall trilogy.
It WILL be a trilogy.
The books will be released 6 months apart. This is the way the publishing industry is going, to be honest — especially for children's books/YA. It's a hectic, bruising schedule, which will mean I'm gonna be overworked for the rest of the year, but hey... I'm quite looking forward to it, actually. I always felt bizarrely guilty for making you wait a year between Skulduggery books, so I'm going to see if this way is better.
Ah yes, and it will be Young Adult as well. There's nothing in it (yet) that is amazingly inappropriate for younger readers — maybe a word or two, slipping into older territory — but it's just the overall feel of the thing.
I'm TRYING to write shorter books. I was aiming for a Dark Days length, roughly 80,000 words. I have to write three of these books this year, and I can't have them spiralling out of control like Skulduggery did. I'm currently at 91,000 words. Hopefully I won't go above 100,000, which is roughly where Mortal Coil was. Hopefully.
Right now, I've only signed a contract with Harper Collins UK, which will publish the books in Ireland, the UK, Australia and New Zealand, and Canada. Over the next while, I'll be signing with foreign language publishers also — but for most of them, I'll need to show them the finished book. Harper UK trust me enough to sign a contract with what they've already seen of the book as I'm writing it.
There is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't be published in America as well.
Oh, and yes, I will be touring with Demon Road, but it's far too early to say where.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 400 of 4785 Newer› Newest»This unit does not wish to be poked, Inky Flame.
We would replicate those emotions, Osmosis, would it be possible.
(Awesome.)
Herrow Chione. How are ye?
(okay Geth Geth)
(Chill Chloe I was joking, now for my real ded; I dedicate to my Blogland family, I love all you people! *hugs everyone apart from those who don't wish to be hugged*)
MrBBWolf: telling her about little red riding hood..?
Liliana: *she closes her eyes, smiling*
Bethany: Are these alright?
(Also I dedicate to Chloe because she makes me laugh. :))
(awww hear hear *huggles*)
Chris: *rolls eyes* a lovely version for a baby...
And now you get some! *presents him a slice of cake*
(*huggles*)
(Hear hear.)
(Time Skip, Soph?)
*nods*
Yup. Are they comfy?
MrBBWolf: well.. it's the true version..
(Yes, Jaimie.)
Bethany: *she nods* But... *she looks at her bum* It barely covers anything up...
Felix: thank you
Chris: lovely... *sighs*
(I better go now
I have revision to do)
(Bye!)
This unit acknowledges your departure, Inky-Flame.
(Bye. Chloe.)
Onwa: *rolls over, yawning, levitating slightly in the air*
*smiles innocently*
And..?
(I will be back soon.)
I don't know, Trip.
How are you?
*Yawns sleepily*
Hi everyone...
Hello
Hi.
*hugs Gem tightly* :/
*Both twins cuddle Skully and Kassy*
Sweepy...
*rubs their eyes*
(*smiles at the adorable twins*)
Auntie Sil!
*They both run towards her in their Pikachu onesies*
(Hey! *cuddles them both* squirts.)
((*sigh* the one time you WANT the credit..))
Hey Gem, Jai and Skul.
@Jai you were saying something some time ago about me not being on as much as before?
(Hey Kas. And indeed I twas.)
Chi: *watches as Sil and Sophia leave*
*Looks up at the big house that appeared beside the lake*
*Mouth twitches and she puts on a fake smile*
Come on kids, let's go inside!
*Walks forward and opens the door*
*The twin's mouths drop open and they run around the house*
*They find the games room that's currently filled with toys*
*Chione closes the door and glances in each of the rooms then makes her way upstairs and pauses in the doorway of the bedroom with the double bed inside*
(I am back.)
Liliana: *she wakes up, and starts to nudge Onwa* Are you alright?
Bethany: Okay. *she nods* Now jeans...
Hey kassy :)
Onwa: Hmm?
*eyes lazily drift open*
*nods*
Yup.
*The twins run in behind her*
Is this our room, Mum?
*She laughs*
Chi: No, this is mine an-
*She stops and forces another smile*
Chi: You both have separate rooms, come on.
*Walks back down the hall and shows Lira her own bright blue room*
Chi: We'll decorate it later...i'll go out and buy some things.
Ok Mum!
Lucus, i'll show you yours.
*They walk across the hall and walk into a wall with 3 white walls and one red*
We'll decorate yours too, Lucus.
Lucus: Yes!
*Smiiles slightly*
Chi: Let's go get some food, alright?
Twins: Yeah!
*They run downstairs to the kitchen*
Lucus: I won!
Lira: No you didn't! you cheated!
Chi: *Smirks then turns around, staring into the bedroom*
*Her eyes darken and the door closes quickly*
*She walks down the stairs, fake smile plastered to her face*
What would my babies like to eat?
Lira: Chocolate!
Lucus: Crisps!
Chi: It's almost dinner time...I meant what would you like for dinner?
Twins: Um...
Chi: How about some fish?
I'll be right back.
*Leaves the house and goes round the corner to the lake*
*Hovers over the lake then water sprays from her body and turns sharp, becoming spears*
*Kills 3 fish and takes them back into the house*
*Cooks them, pickes out the bones and stuff and puts them on plates with some chips*
Chi: There we go...
*Puts the plates onto the table*
*sits down*
Twins: Yay!
*sit down and start eating their dinner*
*Silently wonders how the twins wound up blonde and nods approvingly of their choice of clothing from the treeline*
*Studies the house once again and shakes his head as he walks back into the forest*
(*watches Chi and the twins*
...
*glances at Blake*
...
*calmly fades away*)
Picks*
@Jai: :) I'm just really glad that you live in a world where we could fix your cleft palate (can't spell that word), beacuse the thought of you not being able to speak properly and as such never being bale to communicate your awesomeness to the world is . . . unthinkable. :o I'm so glad they could fix you and that we can talk to you. :)
Beautiful blonde hair and bright blue eyes...
Just like their daddy...
I am clearing out parts of my room that I haven't looked into for like . . . five years. Literally.
It's rather interesting. :P
(I mean, my room only really gets properly tied once a year before our Christmas party, and during that tidying I'm chucking away wordsearches from the year before's Christmas party . . . but I don't tend to tidy down the side of the bookcase and underneath the couch because no one ever sees there, so . . .)
Liliana: You are floating.
Bethany: *she slips on the jeans, fastening them up* They're a little too big... *she pulls on the front of them, showing the space between the material and her skin*
Ohmygosh . . . there's so much dust . . . :P
And old Christmas cards. XD I don't like throwing them out coz they're pretty so I just tend to . . . shove them down the side of bookcases and stuff . . . :P
There's like LUMPS of dust. O_O
I was going to make them have white/silver hair...but that's what Chione and Tsubaki have.
So they took on your genes...
Thought everyone poofed. Hello, Sophia, Star and John.
(Deleted comments? :()
Not mine. Hello, Seirsha.
(I will be back soon.)
John come back...please?
Not mine.
(KASSY! *tacklehugs*)
Not mine. I'm just RPing by myself.
(I'll rp if you want...?)
*hugs weakly back*
*looks into the distance*
I should go.
It's fine, Seirsha...
I'm better on my own... There is only one person I wanna RP with and they won't...
(But I haven't seen you in ages... Bye I suppose... *squeezes* :()
(Okay Gemma.)
(... don't suppose anyone would like to rp ? bearing in mind I have no idea about what so yeh )
Chi: *Looks out the window as she's doing the dishes*
*She could have sworn she saw blake standing there*
*Shakes her head, going insane*
Twins: Mum, can we have a drink?
Chi: What would you like?
Twins: Milk
Chi: Alright...
*Goes to the fridge and gets them little plastic cups of milk*
Mum, where is dad...?
Chi: *Freezes*
He's gone...and he's not coming back, sweetie. It's just me and Auntie Sil...Auntie Bethany too if it all works out....
Lucus: Oh...
*Looks down at his milk for a couple of seconds then drinks it*
*Lira looks at her brother sadly*
Chi: *Sighs*
Go play or something...
I'll go out and get decorations for your rooms...
*Raises her arm and the shadows in the room come together to form a figure*
*It starts to get more detail and it forms into a person*
This clone will play with you and look after you until I come back. Stay in the games room, i'll not take long.
Twins: Ok mum!
*Run into the games room followed slowly by the shadow clone*
Chi: *Goes out of the house and closes the door behind her*
*Heads towards the forest*
(I'lol rp Skully)
(alright :) any ideas about what it could be?)
(No idea! :D)
Back. :/
*sighs*
Damn it.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
*hugs Gemma and Seirsha*
*just hugs them*
(lol great me neither :P)
@Sophia could you help plan a murder? Don't worry, it's perfectly legal.
(*squeezes Kas* If you want to go it's fine.
I have no clue why I'm crying irl... :()
@Seirsha because osmosis. I'm sorry. *hugs*
(Osmosis...? *hugs*)
Tears because osmosis. Or something. Sorry. I'm useless. *hugs*
About four years ago or so, my mum's friend had a box full of plain paper so she gave it to me.
I am maybe 10% of the way through the box. XD
Osmosis is the overall passive moment of water from a low concentration of solute to a high concentration of solute through a semi-permeable membrane.
. . .
Maybe we do cry because osmosis. I don't know enough about crying to say, I'm afraid. :P
(You aren't useless. :( )
Let's not talk about me. How are you two?
(I've been missing you. D: )
Pretty sure you can guess how I am
(Sorry Skully!)
(I am back.
No, Tia, I will not help you plan a murder.)
(it's cool, i'm just ugh y'know, so wanted something to take my mind off it, but it's cool i think i have that now)
(Okay.)
*hugs Gemmy* I'm sorry.
Well okay then, Sophia. It doesn't have to be murder.
(Then what would it be, Tia, if not murder?)
(a planned mishap that happens to end in death)
Chi: *Looks around for moving shadows that look like her husband*
*sighs after a while and goes in search of things to put in the twin's bedrooms*
*a fox crosses her path*
Hmm...
Lira might like you.
*Touches the fox and it turns white*
*Picks it up and carries it round with her*
*after a while, she comes across a town*
*She goes into the shop and buys some decorations for their rooms and some food*
*Slowly walks back home, travelling through the forest again but still seeing nothing*
*She touches the outside of the house as she gets to it and it becomes coated in a thin layer of ice which protects it and makes it look pretty in the sunlight, which was almost completely gone*
Chi: I'm back!
Twins: Mum!
*They run towards her and give her a big hug*
*She smiles and puts down the bags with their things in it*
*Puts her bag on the table*
Lira: Mum, what's that?
*she points at her furry tail of the fox*
Chi: *smiles*
I got you two a pet.
*Picks up the fox and places it down in front of them, it runs around them happily*
*The twins grin and laugh and chase the fox around the house*
Chi: *Goes up and throws the bag on the bed, leaving it for now, closes the door again quickly*
(Thank you again, Elleni, for making sense.)
I really don't care Elleni.
I actually couldn't care less to be honest...
I did write a reply, but nope.
I want a cool fox friend
No one would be here if we had to make sense.
There is no magic.
There are no walking talking skeletons. There is no actual place called blogland, we made it up. It's fantasy.
So don't dare judge me because I want a fox for my mythical children to make them happy.
I would appreciate it if you kept your comments to yourself. I am doing this RP for me, as a backstory.
*hugs Gemma and Elleni*
...
(*ghosts*)
C'mon be friends, this is magic we are speaking about there is no rules your only limit is your imagination. don't be mad because someone pokes at your bear and tells you it's weird and also don't expect that bear to not bite you if you poke it. cause and effect. (tried to stay agnostic hope it worked)
*sighs*
God damn it.
*vanishes*
*waves*
did I do a bad ?
I'm not telling you not to comment.
I'm asking I said I would appreciate if you kept your comments, about my RP, to yourself.
And yes it did offend me, that you would nit-pick at what I said like that when Jai is a vampire who's dating an angel that's the daughter of the goddess of light.
That makes no sense, since those 3 things don't exist.
But I'm the one who gets judged because I took a fox as a pet for my kids? Right then. Cool.
Ignore the "I'm asking" part.
Or all or it, whatever...
Not you, Skul. Me. God damn me.
You're good Kas ... what do you think you caused now ?
(Kas. :/ )
Nothing. I don't want to talk about me.
You should probably come to Innsbruck, Austria
We are waaitingg
Aaand I am sooo excited for the new books!
No...
But if I'm not the cause of it, I just make it worse.
Please, Elleni, let's talk about something else.
You didn't cause this Kas. Things just come to pass and you can't avoid them, but that doesn't mean you can't get over them, now stop blaming your self for something that was not in your hands :P and ven if it's not this and it's something else I know you still had little to none to do with it, so don't blame you there either.
Hi, Janine!
Skul, nuuh.
(*huggles*)
Hey Adam...
*Waves*
(Greetings *smaug voice* barrel rider... had to lol hey *waves*) and yes Kas deal with it, you specifically tried to make it better like me... you hugged them, the hug inflicts emotions in the neural cortex that can be overwhelmed whence annoyed so it helps believe.
...Fantastic, Adam.
And you?
Actually, one of the main thigns I value in a good book about magic IS sense.
"It might be religion, but it still has to make sense." - Shallan, The Stormlight Archive, Brandon Sanderson.
For me, that sentence applies to magic.
I just - I can't deal with things that don't make sense. I'm taking three science AS levels next year, assuming my mind doesn't change. I am a big fan of sense.
If your roleplay ceases to make sense, your roleplay will start to annoy me, bore me and seriously put me off it.
If you're not writing for an audience, that's fine and go ahead. :) But if you are writing for an audience, me and Elleni are part of the audience present.
Also, I happen to be a big fan of criticism, personally. I'm a big fan of compliments too ("praise should be honest, but never withheld" - Kaladin, the Stormlight Archive, Brandon Sanderson), but - if no one ever criticised your work, how would you know if you were any good, or where your weaknesses adn strengths were, or where to improve? Imagine if, in school, everyone got the same grades because no one wanted to hurt anyone's feelings. So everyone got the same qualifications. So everyone was equally qualified to be a nuclear physicist.
No.
I realise the Elleni's comments were quite . . . cutting, I think that's the word - but I don't think you should ever tell people never to criticise you. If no one ever criticised you, you'd just be set up for a lifetime of failure.
Also, I . . . I like discussing. I like discussing roleplay much more than I like actually roleplaying, and I love questioning the decisions of characters or questioning the validity of characters. Decisions of characters, I do in the open because the characters generally can't hear me so I can discuss that . . . validity and reality of characters, I tend to discuss off-blog to avoid hurting author's feelings.
Idk. Is it rude to criticise people behind their backs, or is it more polite because if they never know it won't hurt them . . . ? I was questioning my decision to criticise peopels' roleplaying behind their backs, but as apparently people don't like face-to-face criticism, well, guess I might just go straight on then.
Anyway. My point is, I know, from observation, that Elleni also happens to like questioning the validity and reality of characters.
I guess she went a bit far this time, but my point is - you like roleplaying. We like criticising. And if you're going to write roleplay we don't like reading, surely we can write criticism you don't like reading?
(sorry. bit angry.)
Well I mean....Chi has a point about Sil...hers IS a bit far fetched. Like okay yes Zan and Loki are gods but I took one from mythology, so...
And of course either one who has children will have children be gods because...that's obvious. I mean and Loki being an Elder I clearly explained how he tricked Zafira into offering it to him.
So....Chi is doing something weird racoons are pets and skunks....so....its not uncommon.
-Zaf
(*curls up in a corner just cuz*)
Also, withmagical universe, I don't expect magic to make sense to the rules of our universe - I expect it to make sense for the universe it's in.
In Silente's universe (well, Sophia's), gods and angels exist, and so do vampires. All the gods, angels and vampires in her universe obey the rules of that universe.
(well, you could argue about Silente changing back into human from Bethany talking to her, but seeing as how Bethany has the kind of magic that would support that - life and creation - it does make sense and doesn't go past the limits of reality.)
Unless you're in a special universe with special foxes, which you hadn't mentioned, then your foxes don't obey the rules of your universe.
That's the difference.
Like I said, I don't mind it not making sense if you don't mind me disliking it for that reason. I'm not telling you to change it - you can roleplay for you and carry on doing what you're doing. I just hold different fundamental opinions about the way story universes work.
(I recommend staying up all night on 12 cups o' coffee thats good it helps *shudders in the corner*)
Also, Kas . . . please try and think about how you could have possibly been responsible. If you can work it out, write out what you did wrong and how you could have done better . . . if that helps you. Idk, it would help me. If it doesn't help, sorry, ignore. :( If you can't see how you would be connected (which I can't), then . . . you must not be connected and tehrefore it must not be your fault. Congratulations. C:
Sorry, my sentence structure in that should have been a whole lot nicer, but I was still in arguing-mode . . .
@Zaf: Or, one could argue that Sil's roleplay (well, Sophia's, really, with the angels and gods0 trumps yours as it's more orginaland she came up with mythology herself.
Also, isn't throwing fire a bit far-fetched? Oh my gosh, how COULD Derek make cahracters that could control elements . . . that's so unrealistic. *frowns*
Sil's roleplay fits the rules of her universe, as does Derek's. Someone in Derek's universe can throw fire, beacuse that how his universe works, and there's even a small amoutn of scientific explanation for it to show how it works. However, someone in Derek#'s universe cannot simply become a master of fire without practising, because that would be unrealistic to his story universe.
Same with Sil and Sophia. They obey the rules of their universe. They have people who can move between realms, but Sil the vampire cannot suddenly without explanation move between realms beacuse she feels like it, because that wouldn't align with the universe and the ways the powers in it work.
Well Star, I'm not writing it for you. Or anyone else, if you don't like reading it, then don't. I'm pissed off too. That I was the one being targeted.
Thank you, Zafira.
Sophia's does not make sense. Angel's are meant to be holy and of god, so a lesbian angel? how does that make sense at all? isn't that a sin?
But still I'm the only one anyone fucking criticizes. This is for me, no one else. If you don't like it, don't read it.
And actually Star, it's the universe of Blogland. Where there is magic, and gods and goddess. My universe is the same as Jai's and Sophia's.
As I touched the fox, it turned white and was therefore under my control.
Don't judge my logic. It's my story. I made it up, don't like it? I didn't make it for you so stop complaining and leave me alone.
@Chi: I know; if you're not writing it for me, then you don't have to do anything I say, and if you're not writing it for Elleni, then you don't have to do anything she says.
WOAH.
WHAT THE -
ohmygosh.
*blinks*
Woah -
I -
woah.
Woah -
I -
I actually cannot even believe you just said that.
I need to laugh or cry or something.
I -
ohmygosh.
Being
homosexual
is
not
a
sin.
Hang on a second.
In the bible, it was Star.
I personally don't believe it.
But in a universe with gods, and especially daughters of that god who are angels...
...
:c
(*crawls over to Kas* *quitely* I'm scared of arguing and shouting... I don't like it... *covers ears and squeezes eyes tightly shut*)
(It seems I disappeared briefly.
Gemma - I would also like to point out that an angel killed all the firstborn children in Egypt in the Bible. But the angels that I talk about are not from the Bible, or any other religion. And just because homosexuality is a sin in the bible, does not mean it is considered so with what I use, because it is not the Bible, and it is completely unrelated.)
(Angels are holy and can be cast down for less than sinning, Lucifer for example he wanted the humans to know about angels and the other realms and God was threatened so he cast him down into his own domain where he is to torture souls that have done wrong in gods eyes even thou God is the one calling the shots so he could if he wanted technically make everyone suit his rules and then we'd all go to heaven but no, we were meant to sin god placed that apple there, and he put the temptation in their heads even before the serpant came along. also being gay is an offence God said should be stoned for, in the old testament, and don't go all oh that was then, back in the days, no it doesn't work like that, you don't read the first half of a book then all of a sudden go oh no thats not very nice lets make this half good, God apparenlty said it therefore it's true, if you live by the ten commandments then you should live by that too.)
(in the bible)
So I got a fucking fox for my kids.
Let's leave it at that and leave me alone. Just don't read it then.
Chi: *Goes upstairs*
*Dissipates the shadow clone*
*Collspses on the bed and looks in the bag*
*Pulls out a cushion for the bed*
*Places a lamp on her bedside table*
*Looks around the room*
*Looks in the bag*
*Pulls out a mirror and hangs it on a nail in the wall*
*Sighs and looks out of the window, the world turning dark*
Can we please not argue over religion?
*gently hugs Seirsha*
*hugs Jai*
...
My room fits me perfectly.
(Sorry, I'm not arguing, I'm just saying that is how it is.)
HERE is all the contradictions in the Bible.
http://www.patheos.com/blogs/friendlyatheist/2013/08/19/an-incredible-interactive-chart-of-biblical-contradictions/
The Bible was written about two thousand years ago by lots of different humans.
It was also preserved through the eras by the Church . . . and the people belonging to the Church, the ones presevering the Bible, also happened to be some of the only people who could read.
And if something in the Bible disagreed with what they thoguht . . . well . . . no one would notice if they just changed it a little bit, riiiiiiiiight?
Also, the Bible was not originally written in English, and certainly not in modern English.
You know, originally in the Bible, it didn't say 'virgin'. It said 'young girl', and when they translated it to English they translated 'young girl' to 'virgin' to make the Bible seem more supernatural - it might have been so something earlier could haev been shown to prophesise later events. Idk, I don't knwo the Bible that well and I only know what I've heard.
Imagine how many OTHER translation errors there could have been.
And seeing as how no one noticed the translations adaptations . . . well . . . if we put a little thign in here about homosexuality being a sin, then no one will notice, riiiiiiight?
Also, the Bible wasn't written by God, or Jesus. The Bible was written by people about God adn Jesus.
These people all had different perceptions on life, and if I'm really honest, I can't believe that all of them were tellign the truth.
Please don't think I'm totally trashing the Bible. Did you know, it's still possible to find the records of the two Roman guards who got executed after abandoning their post when the angels scared them from Jesus's tomb . . .
The Bible has a lot of truth in it, I'm sure. However, when dealing with a text that's as unoriginal (I mean, as in, the original has been miscopioed and miscopied and miscopied) as that, then I think it's much more importnat to focus on the overall messages than on the individauls teachings. Like Beth pointed out earlier, love and acceptance, which the Bible preaches, is much more important than focusing on someoen's sexual orietnation. THat would be like discriminating against people for their eye colour. Storms. They can't HELP their sexual orientation, wtf.
Also, wasn't it unholy to be left-handed a few centuries ago . . . ? I think that handedness orientation is much like sexual orientation; it's an orientation in your brain that you can't help and that yon have no control over. And yet, in assemblies teachers can just call kids up to the front to take part in a demonstration and say in front of the whole school, "Oh, btw, are you right- or left- ahdned?" with no big deal about it. That is how it should be.
Anyway.
You could also argue that Sophia and Silente's roleplay is making a big moral and political statement by making Beth a lesbian . . . which is actually a thing to really applaud them for, NOT a thing to criticise them for.
(personally, I think that Beth is just a character who happens to like girls, just like she's a character to happens to, I think, be right-handed. But I could be wrong.)
And just -
I really cannot believe you'd say something as homophobic as that, if I'm honest.
Whatever.
Love how Elleni started this and she disappeared and people are still arguing with me.
K.
(if it's forbidden and you do it then you are sinning, I'm not either, but i do know my lore.)
(I was not arguing, either. I was simply defending my characters from false accusations.)
Can we please stop with the religion?
Omfg Star, I'm not against Lesbians or gays.
Wtf.
Ok whatever, fuck off. I'm done.
Thanks for ruining my day and my RP, I was just keeping to myself and still people find a way or arguing me and making me feel like shit. Thanks guys.
I'm gone.
You ruined a perfectly happy RP that I was enjoying to write. By myself. Great.
*leaves*
(*hugs Kas*)
. . .
I really do not think it is as black and white as "if the Bible says this, and you do it, you're sinning." I know too many wonderful Christians (including, like, my entire family) to believe that.
(I rather think that Elleni did not cause any argument, Gemma, as you were the one who reacted in an aggressive manner.
Star, yes. Bethany is just a character who happens to like girls. It is no big statement, although it could be used as one, coming to think of it, given the problem that Silente and Bethany had with Silente's parents.)
Sorry, Chi. Overreacted a bit there.
I just -
I know too many great non-homophobic Christians, such as, as mentioned, my entire family, so it just hits me a little when you imply they're all homophobic, and it hits me a little harder when you say that homosexuality is a sin, because I just don't expect to see that here.
(she was not being homophobic she was using logic, I myself am bi and I am agnostic, witch means I don't care what there is pretty much -the short version- if angels in the bible can be cast for less then they will most certainly be transcendent for such a sin as to show themselves and give themselves to a human. just saying, God if real is not the forgiving type)
@Sophia: Yay. :) I'm proud of my people-interpretation skills now. Idk why, though; I didn't really do much. :P
Yeah . . . I overreacted a bit. :/ My fault, there.
I've always wanted to be bi. :P
I just don't think you can interpret the Bible that literally.
(Another statement could be made with the fact that Phaestra and Minerve, who are the two most powerful beings in the universes I have created (they are nowhere near the most powerful characters around in Blogland, however, as I like limitations) are both women.
This is rather interesting. I will continue to think about the other messages I have unintentionally added in my creations.)
I mean, there are those who DO, but I don't agree with them. :P
...
*hugs Seirsha*
Hey...
Not as good sometimes as you might think, everyone expects you to want to have sex with everyone no matter what coz y'know thats how it works.
@Sophia: . . .
I didn't even notice that. :P That's cool. :)
Yay with unintentional statements. XD
I like statements. That's part of why I like Brandon Sanderson. :) His writing is like worldbuilding worldbuilding emotions MESSAGE worldbuiliding characterbuilding emotions MESSAGE worldbuilding MESSAGE emotions worldbuilding. XD
(I believe the bible should not be taken literally. It is all about symbolism. I mean, I am an atheist, but I do at least see what use the bible has to teach people about morals and the like. There are, of course, parts I disagree with - and that is one of the reasons why I am not religious. Amongst other things, no religion is perfect for me. And therefore I should not have to settle for a religion which does not fit what I believe in.)
@Skulduggery: :( That does sound annoying.
(I would really appreciate it if we were to stop discussing religion.)
(Tia, religion is an important part of many people's lives, and it has a large affect on how the world works. A conversation about it will not do any harm.)
(Hi. *looks at the ground*)
The whole lot of you dumbasses blew the whole thing out of proportion.
(Just as you are doing right now, Blake.)
@Sophia: :) Yes, I think pretty much the point of religion is that it fits what you believe because it IS what you believe . . .
I think you're an athiest kind of person. :) Like, when I first came across Jasnah Kholin in the Stormlight Archive, I was like "how is Brandon Sanderson writing such good athiest arguments when he's Mormon wtf," but then I realised that Jasnah and Brandon Sanderson actually agreed on pretty much most things about religion . . . it's just that they're different people, and some people, religion works for, and some people, it just doesn't work for them.
If you ever do find a religion, though, that'll be cool. :) Brandon Sanderson has another character in the Mistborn books and he knows, like, eitehr two hundred religions ro seven hundred, I forgot, and he goes around trying out different religions on people to see if they fit adn then asking them if they want to convert. :) He tries to suggest religions to people because he thinks they might fit them, and he said something about it fitting like . . . idk what he said, but he said it should fit like *some sort of clothing*, so it was comfortable but didn't restrain and suffocate. :)
Anyway, yeah.
I alos think the Bible is symbolism, and I also agree with a lot of the messages from it (whern my mum's explaining something deep to me, she'll also say "Well, also, from a Christian viewpoint" and add that dimension to it as well, and that works out rather nicely), and I also agree that it shouldn't be taken literally.
@J: Yup.
:/
I didn't do too well at supressing my urges to argue. I think most of it was my fault, and that Chi will probably hate me now.
Please don't try and make me feel better - I feel fine and probably better than I should do.
@Kas: :/ Sorry . . . any particular reason why, so I know what to avoid and what would be okay to discuss? You dont' have to say, of course.
I could say a lot of interesting things about religion, but most of them would be Brandon Sanderson quotes. :P
(I have also seen some pretty bad events, which can hardly convince me a god exists. I can perfectly understand why people are convinced, though, and why they believe in it. I suppose the concept of death not necessarily being the end is inviting, especially in the case of loved ones and/or for people who have a fear of death.)
(It can be when said in such a way as to A make you sound like a slut and B to put you down like you don't have standards just because you think the body no matter the gender can be nice, frankly I don't go for looks at all really, I mean it can be a plus but not a needed one, I am more if I get along with you intellectually and humour and personality then I like you, and as bae will read this I liked you from the moment I saw you yes but it was your stature more I felt as if I knew you before we talked, there was a thing that said to me go and make her yours :P yes cheesy and yes true ughh)
(I will be back soon.)
@Sophia: I don't know. If I were God, I would try not to interfere with the world.
@Skulduggery: Actually, that's not bisexual, that's pansexual. :) Bisexual people only like two genders.
And, yeah. :/ I guess just - education. Education tends to cure pretty much everything, and a lack of it is really annoying.
well then I guess I'm pansexual doesn't really change anything, I thought pan was when you would have transgender partners, which I wouldn't be against but never really considered it
Well, weren't that a clusterfuck.
I love religion. So polarizing. And I agree wholeheartedly that we must discuss it. If we simply hide from the fact that we believe things that are different then the world would be ever so dull and shut in.
*sighs*
*struggles to control his breathing...
...and his tears*
I've, I gotta, I shouldn't be here.
I have nowhere else to be.
*cries*
I'm sorry.
I'm so sorry.
I
See you tomorrow.
*hugs Kas* It's okay, we're all friends here. We're just discussing our differences. It's perfectly healthy.
Um . . . I think people who transition from male to female or vice versa never leave the binary and so come under bisexual.
I thought pansexual was liking people of non-binary genders too.
But, of course, because sexual preference is so subjective and individual to people, then obviously it isn't really very clear-cut.
@Trip: :) Exactly what I was saying about criticism.
Hi. :)
. . .
I'm sorry, Kas. :/
Just found a pansexual test lol and scored 88% so yeh hehe
. . .
I guess that's two people I've upset in one night by not shutting up.
Please don't try and make me feel better. I feel fine. I should feel worse.
@Skulduggery: :P I'm not sure htose tests are 100% accurate. The sexual orientation tests are better than the mnetla disorder tests, though. O_O
*mental
It's not some random site its the lgbpt site :P by lgbpt for lgbpt mostly it's to help teens with identity issues but it helps define me a little then oh well.
I know what he meant when it came to the word count part. What he meant was..... OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!
Grats, Skul. Have fun, I suppose? Normally I'd say "You puny mortals and your sex." But this is a positive development, I think.
Never shut up Star. In this world of ours, when you shut up you surrendur the world to everyone else.
@Skulduggery: Ah, that's a bit better, then. :)
Still . . . I believe the only person who can ever truly know you is yourself . . . also, when you answer questions about yourself like that, you're translating your feelings into words so otehr people can understand, and things may be lost in the translation. *shrugs*
@Trip: Okay. In that case, I should have been a bit nicer and maybe paid more attention to the way others felt instead of focusing on myself, and continued to not shut up in a supportive and friendly way instead of a LET'S ARGUE BEACUSE ARGUING IS FUN way.
Well I find religion fascinating. I mean
Okay I'm Roman Catholic, but does it mean I agree with a lot of things?
I don't agree birth control is wrong, I take it for my skin and I think it's wonderful.
I don't believe abortion is wrong if done for the right reasons.
I don't think it makes me a sinner for taking birth control, and so if I take it to help my skin, so be it. I rather take it for that and benefit from the pill. I mean its there for a reason, so why shouldn't we use it?
I also don't see anything wrong with gays or lesbians, if you feel you like someone of the same gender cool, so long as I don't have to hear about your sex life I don't care, it floats their boats.
-Zaf
Heh.
I hope so, though. The idea of less than 9000 Deruk words is kind of awful.
And I just read it again. He said maybe a word or two slipping into older territory which kinda helps. The only real vulgar word was in LSODM when Dexter Vex called Ravel a son of a *****
Star?
Yeah Star, but maybe people are too fragile.
If they just shy away from any kind of confrontation, including intellectual exchange between friends then where will they go in life? Maybe you continuing was what was best for them?
I do enjoy the doublethinky aspects of religion too, Zaf. I like that there's this perfect being, and he says what's good and bad but people are cool with bending that.
Like your wording "I don't think taking birth control makes me a sinner"
I mean, if you were super orthadox, it wouldn't matter what you thought.
It's the sort of conflict when really old things like religion operate in our society. It's all about how much you choose to believe, effectively.
I'm sorry. I didn't-
The only light in my room died so...
I don't blame you, Star. It's my fault, remember? *hugs her tightly*
*starts ghosting around, making spooky noises*
(Hello, everyone.)
*hugs Zaf* Hello. :) Thank you. You are a great example. :)
Kas?
I'm sorry.
It's not always yours fault, Kas. :)
And it's okay. I blame myself. But that's cool.
@Trip: *waves hand in a 'hang on' gesture* Hang on.
I like that though, Grimm. Skulduggery aged with its readership. The first book was really clean, except for a dammit, I think, and the language just slowly crept up a little.
It's a nice organic touch. :)
Not your fault, Star.
*ghosts*
Wb, Las.
True, Trip.
And Star, thanks.
-Zaf
(I am back.
See, although it would be possible to say, "I am X religion, but I don't like Y and Z", I do not think like that. In the same way that if a political party has something I do not like, I will not vote for them. My beliefs are my own, and I can hardly consider myself a part of a particular religion if the religion disagrees with me.)
Continuing religion discussion ahead, so I'll treat it like a spoiler for those who don't want to read it -
josamdiasmdsaidmsaidmsakxmaskmdsakdmaskdmsakdmkdmaskdmaskdmasjewioafdjiaodjmesaiomfsiaofcmaiofmcskm
Right.
First of all, I don't believe total obedience is okay. I don't believe one should think 'the Church says this, so it must be right, full stop' (subsitute 'the Church' for any other name). I think you should follow your own beliefs and what you think is right, and if you think the Church is right, then you do what the Church says, but I think is the Church says something you disagree with, then you shouldn't believe them justbecause they're the Church (although you can, of course, be inclined to agree with them because they're the Church and are usually right (as far as you're concerned)) (once again, substitute 'the Church' for any otehr name.
sanfdisndiasmdaiomakxmaskmaskdmasdksamdksamdsakdmsakdmaskdmsakdmsakdmsakdmaskdmsakdmaskdmaskdmaskdmaskdsadmsakdm
Okay. Um.
Hang on again. :P
I don't like the 'some people should just be less sensitive' argument, because sensitivity isn't necessarily something you chose. Some people are naturally move sensitive than others. Saying thigns that will hurt them and then saying things like "oh, they should be less sensitive" is like punching someone in the face and then having a go at them for having skin that breaks too easily.
I don't believe that people should be shielded from things, either - that breeds ignorance - but like . . . there's a difference between having your leg kicked adn having your leg broken, if you know what I mean.
Right now, I've spent about the past hour hurting people and I can't say "oh . . . I'm sorry. I regret that" and then just keep on saying things that hurt people, because . . . well. So that's why I'm putting spoiler warnings.
Hmm. *begins questining my decision*
(I believe there are some things children should be shielded from, but not as you get older.)
Sorry if I offended anyone I tried to stay civil as much as possible during the whole thing by using knowledge so on so fourth
It's okay, Skul. I'm sorry for having a go at everyone over a discussion.
That's a good idea. Not just blindly following this human entity is probably wise.
But in their own way, as sociotal forces, gods do exist, and believe whatever you believe. It's this idea I've been working on, I call it my human gods theory.
The basic idea is that gods are not in fact supernatural beings, controllers of the universe etc, they are entities that exist within people. It ties into my ideas of imaginative realism, in that if a person believes with all their heart that something is real, like an Egyptian slave believing in Anubis, it truly is real. Now, while Anubis may or may not exist, to this person, they do. As such, they may be considered real. But the human gods idea is more about looking at what gods actually ARE.
Gods are an intangible force, much like an idea, such as fascism. What they are is governed by what the person who believes them to be real . So say we take the Jewish god. On the whole, Jews can agree there is one of him, he is perfect in every way, talks to people through prophets and a few other things. These are concrete ideas, and make up the central pillar of a god's ability to change things. It's what brings the humans together to do stuff.
That's all pretty rambly, but basically what I'm saying is what makes gods real is the actions that people make because of them.
Maybe, Star, I wasn't actually there. But I think generally in society, people are too easily hurt.
