I thought this place was meant to be somewhere everyone can be themselves and be supported. You guys have always had a beautiful tendency to actually respect existence, but some of the things I've heard lately sadden me greatly. Blogland is a place of refuge, no? Foul language used against another should not be tolerated, no matter the situation. If it's not meant, it ought not be said.

We may reminosce about previous generations, but they probably weren't any better than now. We just feel like they were. Everything moves on, and if you're forever looking back, you'll forget to look around at now.

It ties in with the notion of the pastoral, Star; the golden age. We're nostalgic about the time when our generation made up the masses here, rather than being the only one from when we first came to the blog. It's human nature to feel nostalgic.

I mean, I was there, but I think of myself as coming from Mara and Luci's gen . . . and then also being in Adra's gen, but it'slike I moved house and lived in theur gen for a while . . . ? And although it was home, my original gome was Mara andLuci's gen . . . ?
But it's concusing because Mara was also in Adra's gen and Luci was also in Zath and Nix and Eve's gen so . . . :P
I came right at the end of the Zath/Eve/Nix gen, then Ieni was sort of the start of the next, so...?

(I do not see why you call them generations. They overlap, and have no discernible beginning or end. If you define a generation by those who are present, would a generation not end the moment one person left? And if those people would still come on, would that mean that their generation is continuing?)
The gen thing roots back to Joe, I think? He had worked out a lot of the gens, I think... ^-^
I think we stay with the term generation out of a reluctance to change, if I'm honest.
But see, we had the Zath/Nix/Eve gen coming up to the summer, then Blogland died over the summer, and Ieni started the next gen in September . . . then that gen continued . . . oooh, how far did it continue . . .
Um . . .
Okay, I joined in 2012 (*had to check my profile for that, although my profile is too months late*), and so . . . yeah. Zath/Nix/Eve, then summer 2012, then Ieni/Mara/Luci and that gen continued all autumn (was it only that autumn????) and sometime in the new year the new people (Adra's gen! Adra/Ari/Trip/Fabi) popped up . . . and then we stuck around for a bit, but in the . . . spring I think it had transitioned to them . . . and then they roleplayed all summer and Adra was online like all day every day (:P), and then that gen continued through the autumn I think, but we were falling apart by then, and then . . . and then the new gen (Dugglyn/Silente/Elleni) popped up sometime, maybe in the new year or maybe in the spring idk, and then by summer 2014 it was all them . . . and now it's still them wtf.
It's been quite a long, transitional gen, this . . .
(It would be somewhat more accurate to determine what period you are discussing by giving a year.)
For me, even if nobody else, the gen system works well, because I have a vague notion of which people belong to which generation, though the years and months make things more complicated, because I am terrible at remembering dates.
(It seems, from what Star was describing, 2012-2013 was the group with Eve, Zath and Nix. 2013-2014 was with Trip, Adrasdos, Aretha and Fabi, and then 2014-present is the group with Silente, Elleni, Dugglyn, et cetera.)
@Sophia: All generations (not just Blogland ones) overlap and are indefinable . . . :P We learn time periods in history, like Renaissance and Medieval and Industrial, but THEY'RE indefineable and they overlap . . .
We just do the best we can.
And actually, Sophia, I do it less on the people and more on the tone, but people tend to leave at the end of a ton, or more people start and that creates a new tone.
Zath/Nix/Eve - blogfighting, non-character-depth roleplaying.
Mara/Luci/Ieni - chatting.
Adra/Ari/Fabi/Trip - start of proper roleplaying. Detailed characterswhole-blog plots.
Silente/Dugglyn/Elleni (who started the current gen really) - different kind of roleplaying - more individual. Also, there was a lot of new gen/old gen tension . . . maybe it's the tension that signifies the generations to me, actually. Whenever there's conflict between a new gen and an old gen, that's when you know a new one's appeared . . .
We only lable the generatoons by specific people to make them easy to identify.
I'm the same as Luce. I don't remember it in times - I have to keep working out the times by looking at my profile and counting summers. I remember it by people, and it's the people that make the generations the generations they are simply due to the fact that Blogland is composed of people, so . . .

I actually agree. However, I don't really see a problem with the way we organise things . . . switching to years would, in my opinion, only make it harder for people. So I'm sticking with my way until I see enough evidence that suggests I should switch.
Whilst it makes sense on paper to continue improving things to prevent breakages, to change things so radically would be confusing and would make things far more difficult for us. With how it is now, there are very few of us who still use it, and we are plenty happy with how it is.

@Sophia: You're forgetting that generations are subjective . . . if things things you're trying to define are mergy, surely it's actually more accurate to leave them with mergy definitions that to put them in boxes that they can't possibly fit in properly?

With the way I think, it wouldn't be at all easier; it'd be more complicated for me. I like how it is, because I understand it, and because I know that there are a few others, who no longer visit the blog, who would also agree with me. Those who use this system of reference have minds suited to this style, so to change it would make it more difficult and just be a ridiculous move to make, imo.

(It is the concept of viewing another country as 'the opposition', which I do not agree with. That will hardly help matters. And in the support of their country, people will be likely to invent derogatory slang terms towards their opposition, and that in term may be used to describe the people inhabiting the country in general. Patriotism and nationalism is a terrible thing.)
