And I am finished.
Well, "finished" is maybe the wrong word. There are still two short chapters to write — detailing Scapegrace's little adventure - but basically, essentially, that's it. I'm done. I've just sent the official first draft of The Dying of the Light over to Nick, my editor, and Michelle, my agent. They've both read a rough version a few weeks ago so I know there's not going to be much in the way of changes when I start editing next week. Which is a relief. And word count, you ask? Word count?
Well, at the moment, before the edit and missing two little chapters, the word count stands at 153,193. I can't find the exact count, but I think LSODM was about 161,000, so it'll be pretty close in size. I genuinely thought this would be a much smaller book, closer to Dark Days in terms of length. My editor, however, knew the word count would just explode once I started to do what I planned. The book is, he has told me, "hugely ambitious". So there's that.
And I'm glad it's taken me this long to write it, to be honest. I'm glad TDOTL is going to be a heavy, substantial book. It is the end, after all. It deserves to be weighty.
It has still to hit me, by the way. The fact that this IS the end. I think when the edit is finished it'll occur to me that there'll be no more Skulduggery books. Not exactly looking forward to that moment.
On a cheerier note, I've seen Tom Percival's rough sketch of the cover, and it will literally KILL YOU with feels.
Which, now that I think of it, probably isn't a cheerier note at all.
We have such cool ideas for the coming year, plenty of AMAZING events to announce, and I can't wait to let you all in on what we're planning. The next two days, in fact, I will be spending in a massive meeting about those very same events.
The Year of the Requiem is gonna ROCK.

Bye Amethyst!
Nice pic by the way, Snow.
Thanks. :)
Wbd, msd. *hugs*
Anyway, I should go soonish. It's getting kinda late.
To leave now or try to get first...?
GAH
Well... It's not too many comments... But there haven't been a lot of posts lately.
But Derek promised news, which indicates that there will be posts.
But that's not really a guarantee. He might be too busy.
[Doesn't know who most of those people are]
[Has seen like zero movies]
[Well, more like six]
[Wants to note that it's easy to change what an actor/actress looks like]
[I mean, Jennifer Lawrence was blonde and people were upset about this, and then she had brown hair for the Hunger Games movie and did a good job I think (I saw it after I got my wisdom teeth out and the anesthesia hadn't worn off yet, so I really don't remember). But most of my Hunger Games-obsessed friends seem pretty happy with it.]
Hm. At this point, I'm gonna go for it.
Hello?
You're beautiful.
You're amazing
You're perfect
SAPPHIRE IOTA
I MISS YOU SO MUCH
HIIIIII
LOVE YOU FABIGAIL
(Not in that way)
Because you're you, and you're Fabilous.
*cuddles*
Miss you too!
I'm sorry I'm on so infrequently...
LOVE YOU TOO
(Same)
[hugs]
You ate perfect. :-)
How've you been?
It's alright. If I'm being quite honest, I don't frequent this place as much as I used to... I'll not go into that now.
But yeah. It's nice to see you again! Is your email working, by the way, or is it like broken permanently? Because I had something I wanted to send to you.
Happy, I suppose. School started again three days ago and since then we've had four tests -_-
*looks guilty* I didn't mean to ear perfect! It was Snow's fault!
How're you, blogsister?
People.
PEOPLE.
If you kill Adra to upset Alastair - that's horrible! That's making YOU the villain!
Furthermore, where wil revenge get you? An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.
*nods happily at those who've already pointed out stuff along these lines*
#ChaseForBookNine
I just can't get onto it and won't ever be able to again.
You could send it to my other gmail, if you still have that address.
Star! Wifey! *dramatically flyingtacklehugs you*
Also - YAY! PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY HERE!
I have to get ready for school, though. :/
#ChaseForBookNine
@Saph: YAY! HI! :) *hugs*
#ChaseForBookNine
Meh. Tests.
Sure. Sure you didn't. :-P
I am, um, okay. I've had a long week.
Oh... Okay.
I think I have it from when I invited you to TSE, though I'd have to check my iPod (it won't be on the iPad, since that's newer and is missing a lot of emails from the contacts.)
STARARARARARARAWR HI
Okay, wifey :3 *hugs you back*
*hugs* ah well. Long weeks are better than disastrous weeks :)
(Also, godmodding is not alloeed. There ade several blurred lines regarding that area, but you cannot kill other people's characters off withput their permission. That is a given. Because, you know, they're their characters and they use them?
What makes this easy to avoid is to do a piece of magic and say what the effect will be if the other character doesn't manage to avoid it. Then they can choose.)
(Just a suggestion.)
#ChaseForBookNine
I dedicate this page
To cool moments.
Like the time I got to talk to Derek on Skype in a room of like twenty or so weirdos who stuffed pretzels in Skulduggery's head and ate little paper cutouts of Derek. People actually ate them.
Anyway, it was really cool because O_O there is an awesome person behind this book. And he showed us his movie memorabilia and his cat and teased us about which characters were going to die. And the whole meeting the author of my favorite series thing basically made my entire year, even if I ended up sounding like either a psychopath or an awkward person. But yeah.
There was another moment when Ally Carter and Shannon Hale were tweeting each other about something, and I was like, whoa two cool authors are real people and they're, like TALKING TO EACH OTHER. I mean, I guess it makes sense that authors would be friends, but still. It was cool.
So I dedicate this page to real people and realizations of real people, and Snow, who is too nice for her own good, Star who is a bubble, and Saph who has just ruined any chance I had of not staying up too late. :-P
Also to Seattle-area-ish minions. Yay, you are cool!
*Agrees* killing other people is generally seen as impolite. In most societies.
Crap.
*cheerfully murders my phone and its typos*
@Saph: There do appear to be a lot of typos when perfection is concerned. XD
@Lantern: :( *hugs*
#ChaseForBookNine
Aye, well, it might have been a disastrous one. Luckily I'm stronger than that.
And thanks, I'll send it now.
And um, sorry if talking about the Skype call makes me seem arrogant. I know not all Ameriminions are lucky enough to be able/have been able to do that. It just was a really important moment for me, because it's highly unlikely I'll ever go to Ireland.
*Drinks to Fabi's red*
I'm afraid I can't apologise for that ;)
*hugs Lantern* :) :) Great ded.
And - I AM A BUBBLE. :) *is a bubble*
#ChaseForBookNine
@Lantern: It didn't, don't worry. :) *hugs*
I just read it as a memory of a very cool moment. :P
And - :( *hugs* *hugs*
#ChaseForBookNine
*DED
*glares at laptop*
*hugs* *doesn't know what to say* *hugs you again and gives you a purple carrot*
And please. I can't imagine you ever sounding arrogant. You're the kind of person who's always thinking of everyone else.
Might have to go to dinner soon...
SAPH
*tackles* *squishes*
*murders*
Gtg, see you as soon as I can! It won't be tomorrow, because I have a Chinese speaking convoy, but maybe the say after.
*cuddles everyone*
(sorry, Snow! Xxx)
Hey Snow! :) :) :)
@Saph: She is. :) *hugs Lantern* *hugs Saph* *hugs BOTH OF THEM* *AT THE SAME TIME*
I HAVE DISCOVERED HOW TO MULTITASK! *screams*
#ChaseForBookNine
It's alright, it's my own choice to stay up late. :-P
Thank you Star. [hugs]
YES YOU ARE
[hugs] Okay, good. :-)
[hugs] [hugs]
[Takes purple carrot] [hugs] Thank you. And okay.
Might have to go to sleep soon.
Sent the email.

DAMNIT SAPH!!! *cries*
BYE BYE SAPHY FISH.
*tackles fabi and kills her* I am not too nice for my own good. Shush. But beautiful ded
@Lantern: :O
HOW CAN YOU REACH THAT LEVEL OF MULTITASKING.
*tries to hug Snow as well as Saph and Lantern* *eh* *eh* *ehhhh . . .* *collapses*
#ChaseForBookNine
*hugs everyone who has ever lived AT THE SAME TIME*
@Snow: . . .

*faints at the display of such talent*
#ChaseForBookNine
That's a lot of hugging snow. Not here long.
*tips ice on stars head* wake up.
*tackles Tempest*
I am tackled and I die
To call my killer nice, no lie
And as my soul goes toward the sky
I will not shush til my last breath
Faintly eyelids flutter closed
Painful ragged breathing slows
Even in this state, I know
My heart remains, though after death
(Idk)
Hey Silente!
Fabi. You little bundle of ASDFGHJKLASDFGUJKLJGSGDUWK
Wbd. Jobssss.
*is tackled*
*sits up and brushes off*
Hey snow.
Hey fabista!
I am not sure what to think of that.
What is the meaning of this "ASDFGHJKLASDFGHJKLJGSGDUWK?"
Bah! School calls :( so long....
Still sort of here . . . Just went to have breakfast. :P Hi/fours, Silente! :) :(
@Lantern: :) :) :) *hugs*
#ChaseForBookNine
ASDFGHJKLASDFGUJKLJGSGDUWK means a lot of things. In this context, it means you are too good for words and thus I am using random letters to describe your epicness. But it is also used when one is not sure what to say.
@Snow: *nods* I agree with your definition of Fabi. :)
#ChaseForBookNine
Bye Tempest
Bye Silente
[hugs Star]
[Is tempted to continue the poem]
[Needs to sleep, though]
[Should sleep]
*bops fabi's nose* then sleep.
Well then, thank you [hugs] [pokes with a purple carrot] <3

Sleep. *closes her eyes and glues them shut*
I don't think making her panic will help her sleep, Snow. :)
#ChaseForBookNine
I'm dead, so is any of that really relevant?
I mean, duct tape has surprisingly little affect on deceased souls.
Just sayin.
Okay fine if you really want me to go, I'll get out of your hair.
[Wails dramatically]
[Disappears]
:( FOURS, LANTERN!
WE LOVE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

BYE THEN
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HELLO.
*Frowns at Science homework*
Collision theory seems simple enough to me.
Mix thing A with thing B and you get a big boom.
Unless the reaction needs a catalyst, in which case you mix that with things A and B to get a big boom.
The greater the temperature/ concentration, the bigger the big boom.
See? I can totally do year 12 Science.
*flicks saph if she is still here* HOW OLD IS THE SAPHY FISH?
Sorry! My internet broke!
14 :) Are you still here?

I think space is working again
I know :P
Um, I don't know how to fix that, but maybe in the mean time try-putting-hyphens-between-your-words-like-this-instead.
Yayz :D
How have you been? *huggles*
I AM GOD. SORRy POOFED was reading Perico. I SHIP IT
*oh, not I.

Um... that was supposed to say oh my god..XD
Fabi is sixteen. :-P
Hi! Just testing if this works with my mobile^^
Not really here...
Hi anyone who's here
Hey Chi!

CRAP ON A CRACKER ITS MOTHERS DAY THIS SUNDAY!
wbd - I have revision and stuff to dooooo . . .
#ChaseForBookNine
@Silente: YOU WHAT?
NO!
IT WAS BACK IN MARCH!
#ChaseForBookNine
Wait its already been mothers day. I bought mum some pink alcoholic stuff. What?!
YOU HAVE TO MEAN THE AUSSIE ONE!
#ChaseForBookNine
Google is lieing!
Oh US mothers day is sunday. I got so worried then.
@Silente: THE AUSSIE ONE?
And - yay. :) Doubted myself, then . . .
Okay, so we had a revision lesson today in physics, and my physics teacher DIDN'T FUCKING EXPLAIN ANYTHING she just asked us a load of stuff and we went WHUHHHHH and ended up more confused than when we started.
And C put her hand up and said she didn't understand near the beginning, and Miss asked what she didn't understand, and C was like, well, all of it, and Miss was like, well, do you understand how to interpret a velocity-time graph? And C was like, no, because she wasn't even entirely sure of what velocity was (she didn't know the formula, like). And Miss was like, do you know what represents the velocity? And C was like, no. And Miss was like, is it gradient, is it the area under the line . . . And C said it was the gradient, because I'd just told her (I didn't understand much better than C, but I'm okay with not understanding half of it so I freak out less). And Miss was like, well, do you know how to work out the gradient? And C was like, yes, and she worked it out.
And then Miss was like, there you go then, and she went away.
And C was just like WHAT THE FUCK HAVE I JUST WORKED OUT and still wasn't any closer to understanding. :P
That teacher, I swear.
So today, as well as maybe retackling that essay and finishing memorising my French because I have an assessment tomorrow, I would rather like to revise physics, type up my findings and mail them to C.
Yes.
*nods*
#ChaseForBookNine
@Silente: US?
Ugh. :P
WHY CAN WE NOT JUST HAVE THE SAME ONE DAMMIT.
#ChaseForBookNine
Stupid science teacher. I have one like that only with less explaining. We had a test today on all we learned. At one of the questions we had to write a spread and prevention of a disease. It mentioned lungs so for the spread I put 'inhaling' as from the prevention I panicked for no reason and wrote 'don't breath.' Hopefully that's not a representation of all my other answers. I did quite well to say I didn't revise though.
OF COURSE IT CANT JUST BE THE SAME THAT'D MAKE /SENSE/
Its Mother's Day in the US...on Sunday.
Hey Zaf!
@Silente: We have ours on Mothering Sunday, which was originally to do with the church (the mother church and stuff), so . . . :P
Yeah.
Different origins.
And - -_-
My chemistry teacher is really good and my biology teacher is FANTASTIC, though, so maybe we're just a bit spoilt and not used to poor teaching. :P
#ChaseForBookNine
You shouldn't /have/ to be used to poor teaching though.
Eh. I think that email would be mostly pointless, actually, because I can't explain anything and everything I'm learning, I'm getting it from the same revision guide that she owns, so . . . yeah. :P
#ChaseForBookNine
But you might be able to explain it better than the revision book.
Hello all!
@Silente: Yeah. I know. :P
Some of the things that annoy me most in the world are people calling me Dutch and poor teaching, though, which kind of implies I need to get my priorities straight. XD
Also, I go to an outstanding school, so technically our teaching should, in theory, be better than anywhere else in the area (because, as they love pointing out to us, we're the best school in the area (ALTHOUGH, they had an assembly once telling us how great our sixth form college was and how that was the best in the area as well and how we should totally go there, but they also told us that we had a 100% pass rate and 58% of the students got A*-C grades.
. . .
*waits a moment for my audience to digest their information*
I am beginning to suspect that half of what we're told is bullshit. :P)), so technically I really have nothing to complain about.
I mean, in Endeavour in Hull only 20% of the students get A*-C grades, so - yeah.
I should really be eternally grateful and should come out singing most of my teacher's praises, but I'm rather good at complaining, it seems. :P
#ChaseForBookNine
@Silente: No.
Really.
I can't explain.
Whenever I try to explain anything to people, they end up looking more confused than when I started.
The only reason I thought I would be able to explain to C because I wouldn't be doing it verbally so I could correct my mistakes as I went along.
And it's a CGP revision guide.
CGP is life, the universe and everything. O_O
#ChaseForBookNine
MATEX!
*tackle hugs giggling*
*looks down at him*
Hello.
Brb food.
SILENTE MY DEAR!~
*returns the tackle hug*
Hey Matex! :)
#ChaseForBookNine
Herro Star! To be honest I don't even revise for stuff. But don't take my advice, it's probably a good thing if you actually do it!
@Matex: Revision is good. :P *nods*
#ChaseForBookNine
I GOT COMMENT 1111!
#ChaseForBookNine
I have a test at 8.30 in the morning for which I have done no revision.. *looks at clock. it is half past one in the morning*
@Matex: Yeahhhhh . . . good luck with that. XD
#ChaseForBookNine
Eh it will probably be easy! This year has not been challenging at all so far aha.
Oh god, just saw the bit about physics. When I did physics it was never explained well either haha.
Okay, Jazlyn. :/
@Matex: Meh.
Stupid physics. :P
I understand it when my revision guide tells me it, though. *mutters*
#ChaseForBookNine
Did you enjoy the food Silente? WAS IT DELICIOUS?!
Haha Star that's better than understanding nothing at all!
@Matex: Probably, yeah.
I just hope I understand it in the exam, though. :P
#ChaseForBookNine
The food was okay. Its the drink that I live for.
*grins and hugs him*
The drink of blood? :P
I live for the drink of lemons and limes <3 (And bacon, that obviously goes without saying).
heh
*kisses her forehead as she leans in*
*smiles*
*goes on tip toes and kisses him lightly*
Of course the drink of blood. With vodka naturally.
*reads that last sentence in a Russian accent: cries*
XD
*ruffles her hair, then looks at his watch and frowns*
God I can't stay long, this sucks :(
@Star yeah, no, exams suck like that! :P I only have on exam this semester so I am so happy ^.^
Its fine if you can't stay. Time zones suck.
*puts on a Romanian accent*
Matex. You are the one I like. I want to suck you blood!
*winks at him at lays her head on his chest listening to his heart beat*
Oh. Yeah. So we're discussing how crap Common core is.
*laughs at Silente, then holds her close*
Time zones sure do. And I am not in the best mood, thinking perhaps guitar then bed would be good...
*rests chin on Silente's head*
Hiya Zaf! We (Aus) don't have that but we do have similar things so I know what you mean (I think)
Seriously.
So they're not levelling us next year. If you take Honors or AP you stay with the kids testing in. If you don't, oh well. So like, you have the kids who are collegebound, and the kid from the ghetto who causes trouble, all in the same class. With the kids who are simply unintelligent, with the intelligent. You don't do that!!!! If you do that, you take down your smart kids.
Plus this is so "We're all equal." Hmm, lets see, you just simply don't. You get kids who work, stuck with kids who don't. Communism hasn't worked, this won't either.
I don't even know what common core /is/...
*smiles and closes her eyes*
*snuggles head into his chest*
*sighs and relaxes*
What's wrong babe?
It has been far too long since I have had the pleasure of being in this lovely place you know as Blogland. Hello, everyone.
I'm afraid I may disappear suddenly as I fear they may be on my trail. *Smiles apologetically at any inconvenience this may cause*
Silente- common core is the teacher doesn't teach, they facilitate. So you teach yourself. Say you never added 2 + 2, you get a packet and are told, okay add. There are no notes. In history its, ok here is an articke on say Sherman, read it, and decide if his tactics were moral. You don't know who he is, other then he was a general in the Civil War, but you read the tiny article and figure it out.
@Zaf: We don't have sets in English either.
No, the smarter kids won't be helped, but the way it is now, the less smart kids aren't being helped.
Sets give you more smart kids and more stupid kids - it spreads out the range.
It doesn't make it better.
It sucks if you're good at English, like me, but if you look at it in an objective, non-selfish way, it helps the lower down kids so MEH.
I wish I could say I was selfless enough not to mind, but I do. :P
And - if the kids aren't working, there has to be a reason. If they're unintelligent - no such thing. They need more help, certainly, but a lot of kids . . . you have to think about the reasons behind why they're being as they are. You said "kids from the ghetto who cause trouble" - yeah, I'm stereotyping here, but they probably don't have that great lives at home and is that their fault?
I wish I could, like, clone my mum and hand her out to everyone. :P
#ChaseForBookNine
Msd
Baaah i hate government interference in education.
Hello Loux. Nice to meet you.
I mean, yes they may not, but I want to do something in my life, not be dragged down.
@Zaf: That sounds stupid.
How are you ever meant to learn anything if you aren't taught?
Then again, if me and C were just given textbooks and told to teach ourselves, we would just be in heaven and would finish the year in half the time, probably. :P
That or we wouldn't bother.
Heh. XD
#ChaseForBookNine
@Zaf: I understand you so much, I swear. D: I feel exactly like that.
I'm just trying not to, and anything I say to you, I'm also saying to myself, so . . .
I wish I could just - you know, LEARN.
Learn without interruption or hindrance.
#ChaseForBookNine
Hahaha that's what it has always been like for us Zaf, trying to separate them is defined as discrimination so you get whatever classes you get and you just have to work hard even if no one else does (for us that is, I know very little about CC). I had a few classes like that.
Hello Loux!
Ah just stuff Silente, don't worry I'm fine XD just a bad mood :/ *smiles down at her and relaxes, his arms around her waist*
@zaf you teach yourself? That's okay in some respect but in others...not so good.
We only have sets in maths and science . . .
Maths, no one gives a shit about, and if no one gives a shit about it in set one, then well . . . I can't imagine people in set six really caring. :P
I love science, and it really, really benefits me so much to be setted for it.
Urgh.
:/
#ChaseForBookNine
It is a pleasure to meet you as well.
And, if it is not too much trouble, my name is Ioux with a capital i.
*looks up at him*
*brings her arms to his neck from his waist*
*moves onto her tip toes*
*kisses him gently*
*pulls back and rests her forehead on his*
Cheer up.
Ah sorry Ioux. Bad spelling.
Oh by George it is to, very sorry Mister Ioux - how the hell do I pronounce that?
*is surprised by Silente*
*winks at her*
Thanks!
Hello, Ioux! :)
(Damn. Forgot to greet you. D: I often forget to respond to people when I'm ranting; it's nothing personal, I do it to everyone, not matter who they may be.)
#ChaseForBookNine
It's perfectly alright, nearly everyone makes that error. The font on this 'Blogger' has very little difference between l and I, unfortunately.
You have my most sincere apologies for the confusing spelling. If it helps, my name comes from the French 'mysterieux.' The 'o' was simply a typographical error that stuck.
*grins*
Your welcome
*bumps noses with him*
*her eyes are shimmering*
*kisses him again*
Ahhh. Oh well. Ioux is still a good name. How are you?
One would pronounce it somewhat like "Mister ee-euh." However, I do not take it personally if you mentally pronounce it differently. I am no mind reader.
Oh I see now. Very clever name!
*smells Silente's hair*
I am quite well, thank you. Yourself?
*pulls back and settles back onto the soles of her feet*
*rests her head back on his chest*
*grins*
*starts tickling him*
I'm fine thank you Ioux. Quite fine. May I ask who the people after you are?
*refuses to be tickled, runs away*
Ah, just some old friends *half-smile*
I'll be surprised if they bother me here.
*runs after him*
*tackles him into the long grass*
*leans over him her hair falling to frame her face*
Gotcha.
Old friends? Okay. Hopefully they won't come. So, discipline?
*Blinks slowly at Silente*
I see.
*Does not answer her question*
*notices his lack of responce*
Cat got your tongue?
*kisses Silente*
*uses sudden distraction to roll away*
*giggles*
*stops giggling and looks at Ioux*
*Sighs*
I levitate.
*Clicks his heels together*
*Levitates a few inches off the ground*
*punches Matex in the arm*
*watches Ioux*
That's cool.
*runs a hand under his feet to check he's not cheating*
Impressive.
*moves back to Matex's side*
*holds his hand*
*Nods towards Ioux*
Very nice
*Summons guitar from the nether realm*
*plays quietly*
*He is cheating, of course.*
*But not in a way Silente would be able to see by running a hand under his feet*
*And he is a very good liar, so his face won't give it away, I'm just pointing this out for out of roleplay use, and because your character will likely figure it out if she ever ends up fighting Ioux*
*smiles and listens to Matex's strumming*
DID I EVER MENTION THAT I CAN'T WRITE ESSAYS?
#ChaseForBookNine
*she probably will end up fighting Ioux*
*she fights almost everyone as soon as she meets them*
YOU PROBABLY DID STAR!
*Nods at them*
*There's a loud howling in the distance*
*Ioux jumps*
*And then he's no longer levitating*
My apologies, it seems my rest here has come to an end. It was lovely to meet you all.
*laughs*
You didn't fight me, I got you dancing with me ;D
@Silente: YES!
*facepalms*
At least I'm writing something now, though.
Slowly, but it's writing.
#ChaseForBookNine
Okay, Ioux. :( :( Fours . . .
#ChaseForBookNine
Okay then Ioux. Good luck with your life.
*turns to Matex*
I did greet you with hostility though. You just turned it to dancing and not fighting. Lucky you.
*ruffles his hair while he plays*
*Does a sort of elegant business shoe version of the tap-dance*
*disappears into thin air*
Ioux is ace. <3
Aha.
CGP likes the word ace. <3
#ChaseForBookNine
^I approve of Mister Ioux. He has class.
Haha sure, I'm just special like that ;) Apparently you wouldn't let yourself be shipped with anyone either and yet here we are o_o
@Star; What is CGP?
*blushes*
Yeah. Well...
*glares at a tree*
..don't get cocky mister. I never said I /wouldn't/ be shipped I said I would like to be /forcefully/ shipped.
**wouldnt
Hey Dragona
*giggles*
okay then haha! I don't mind :P
Hey hey Dragona!
