Imagine

Apparently I'll be appearing at the Imagine Festival in London this Monday, the 17th. I had a blast last year, where I showed clips from movies, but I'm not entirely sure what I'll do this time. I might read from one of the new short stories. I'd read from the ninth book, but there is nothing from the early sections finished, and anything read from later on would be a spoiler, so...

Oh, and speaking of Book 9, I have just reached the 75,000 word mark. Judging by this, the finished book will be at least 100,000 words, which is Mortal Coil length, and could be longer. LSODM will stay the longest, I reckon, simply because of the massive amount of characters involved. But because most of those characters are now DEAD, Book 9 allows me a smaller, more intimate story — while remaining as heart-rendingly traumatic as anything I've written before.

And speaking of heart-rendingly traumatic, I've actually written the last few chapters. Not to completion, of course, but I've written enough to know what happens, and how it ends, and who lives and who dies, and all I can say is...

I am MEAN.

So, uh, back now.

It's sad how we can't just all understand each other. :P
Then again, I don't understand myself sometimes. In regard to me in general, but also in regard to music taste. And if I don't understand myself, why should I have to understand other people?
So I suppose I can accept why people would like some music. *nods thoughtfully*

(Like we were saying in English when we exposed the pointlesaness of the activity - things dob't have to line uo evenly and make sensw. They'll never do that. You just have to be able to justify it, and you can eventually, even if.it at first makes no sense.)

I had a counter for that but it did not make sense. Because I got halfway through and realised it wasn't countering at all, but just burbling about English class. :P

You gave the beautiful explanation there, though, and, like you said, I suddenly understand.

But I don'#t think yours was so much shady frustrating as it was just less explanatorarily long? Um.
Like in ENlgish essays where you're analysing a text and you make your point, and you quote and you comment, and at the end you often come back to your point or task to summararize/explain and that is the clarifying part that fits it together and I think you did that clarifying link part.
If that makes sense?
It definitely makes more sense that the OTHER English class analogy did. :P

Sorry about disappearing slightly - dinner.
I used to prefer strawberry jam tarts, but they were the only ones my sister liked, so I always took the blackcurrant ones, and now I prefer the blackcurrant ones.
That's rather beautiful, in a way. :)

@Taia: That was an awesome analogy. :) But the clarifying link part makes little sense if you've not said what you're linking it TO. Then it's just a few cold sentences. Yours had the thing it was linked to. Like . . . like when I ramble off on a rant, and I write a huge paragraph and then have a "Justification is very easily applied" or "Addiction is scary" or "People are odd" sentence at the end, and it's a good conclusion to reach, but the real amazing part is the part where you think all that out, and you're soaring up in this beautiful world of world-y ness, and it's not about where you get, it's about the journey, and it doesn't matter how good you are at something, how well you did in a race, so long as you had fun doing it (unless your family got shot if you didn't win the race. But I don't think you'd find that race much fun anyway, with all that fear and pressure), and . . . yeah. :)

Hey Zaf! :)
Sounds scary. D:

@Star: *smiles* It is. :)

THanks. And- perhaps, but if we all went about explaining everything in full and THEN summarizing, always, then it would take forever to say anything.
Like, if I'd just explained why it would take forever, but you know already?
idk. I think both statements were equally good, and said the same thing in different ways. Like, linking to the race analogy, you might have one competitor who sprints from the beginning and gets tireder and slows down toward the end. ANd you might have another who starts slower, and then goes superfast at the end. ANd another who just goes moderately the whole way.
idk.
I agree with you on the good of explaining, but I also think that there's something to be said for the more simple route, because sometimes a single statement can be just as, if not more, effective.

Like in Star Wars where Anakin's all like "YOU TURNED HER AGAINST ME! D: "
ANd OBi-Wan replies, "You have done that yourself."
Because if Obi-Wan had gone on to explain exactly HOW Anakin turned Padmé against himself, explaining the entire story right since Obi-Wan first plucked him from his little home, the effect of the moment would not be nearly as effective.

So, I think... I agree, but with a different bit, too.

@Lantern: YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! :) :)

@Taia: Damn. O_O
I was about to say about how that's probably why I'm blogfamous for long comments, because I go so deeply into explainations, and how awesome that is, but that Star Wars reference just hit the nail exactly on the head there, as well as being an awesome reference, so I agree with you. :P
Plus the thing about the competitors.
Plus - my friend C had a metaphor about a marathon once. And she said, if you were in a race, and you were falling behind all the other people because you were unfit and not very good at running, and you completed the first lap, and it was hard, so hard, and you were so tired, and then you realised that you had four more laps left to go - why would you not just quit, give up then, instead of putting yourself through all that torture?
And what you said - about the competitors . . . and how some went really fast at the beginning, and some went really fast at the end, and some were moderate all the way through . . .
Maybe you're not as behind as you think. :) Maybe the others will be forced to slow down. Maybe you and another competitor can walk around together and laugh and chat and have fun and get through it, as friends.
(Although I still like the idea that you can just walk away from the pitch and live in a cave somewhere and go FUCK YOU I DON'T NEED TO GET A JOB AND BUY A HOUSE AND HAVE KIDS AND BE NORMAL. I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT.
And you don't have to reject the normal structure of life by living in a cave. You could travel the world instead and have adventures.
(Although my friend C could probably find more adventure stuck in a cave than most people could travelling the world. She's awesome like that. :))

(Life isn't a race.
Life is like a conveyor belt.
Like the one Precocious was running on in the Peptart factory.
And it just carries you along.
And some people dash along the conveyor belt and see how far they can get.
And some people run in the wrong direction like Precocious did and get nowhere.
And some people . . . maybe they just need to wander about, find the part of the conveyor belt that is the most comfortable, and curl up there like someone who's curling up in a ball and crying, except without the crying aprt, because they're comfortable and happy.
And maybe some people devote their lives to helping people to run in the correct direction.
And some . . . maybe they like exploring the conveyor belt, and adding to their experience.
And I have no idea where I was going. I got sidetracked describing the conveyor belt and have completely forgotten. :) Deal with it. Or don't. But you sort of have to deal with it, because you announcing you don't deal with it isn't going to make me remember.

#ChaseForBookNine

Star Inkbright said...

(Although we all have our own separate conveyor belts. :))
(Because we all have different lives.)

(*is now picturing a factory with conveyor belts in it, slicing across the room, soaring all the way up to the ceiling and starching from wall to wall, like the ones you see in movies, like with Santa's factory and all the presents everywhere*)

Mary Contrary said...

@Star: YOu are a wise bubble. *nods* With wise friends. *nods again*
You made me laugh with the cave part though. xP
ANd that rejection of the normal structure of life is what our good classroom assistant in art who's better than our actual teacher tells us. Not so much the cave part, but the "fuck that, don't get a job and buy a house and have kids -- travel the world and have adventures." part. *nods*

#ChaseForBook9

Star Inkbright said...

@Taia: Thank you. :) I do have wise friends, yeah. XD
I wouldn't ACTUALLY want to live in a cave. Well, only if it could have solar panels linked up to it. If not, I would like to live in something that could have solar panels on the roof. So then I can get electricity and therefore internet. *nods*

Your classroom assistant sounds rather ace. :) I would like to travel the world and have adventures. Mmh.

Holy toes Star O.O
I was just about to copy/paste the curling up on the conveyor belt part bc that was so perfect and then I read the next part and I couldn't because it suddenly became that if I was to quote one part I'd have to quote it all, like it all kind of came together as you move through the conveyor belts and we all have our own separate conveyor belts omgg that was so perfect Star.

*realises I'm a bubble and I don't have a face*

Anyway. Do you see this metaphorical face?
No, you don't, we're talking through a computer screen.
Can you imagine you're seeing this metaphorical face?
Can you see - um, imagine seeing - this big smile on it?
This big smile is there because of YOU.
And isn't actually there, because I don't have a face.
But if I DID, it would be there because of YOU.
And even if it was there, I'm not faking it. It is there because of PURE HAPPINESS.
I mean, you'll have to take my word for that.
But you're having to take my word for the whole smiling thing, so . . . :P
Thanks. :) :)

I'm dedicating this page to every conveyor belt in the factory that is our version of reality.
And where the conveyor belt gets sticky because something is spilled onto it, I dedicate to the fact that it will clean, and the whole of the rest of the belt is still clean, anyway, so maybe just shuffle along a bit?
Or if the conveyor belt breaks down, I dedicate to that they will either fix, or a new conveyor belt with an alternative route will either be found or constructed.
And also that maybe a conveyor belt never really ends, because even though eventually you are conveyed to where the conveyor belt turns around and starts going upside down so you have to get off, but the belt itself just goes around and around. It's the same belt, just recycling itself. (I don't actually remember what I was intending on meaning by that but it gets a space anyway, because why backspace it all? and also because we all make mistakes and/or complicate and forget, right? :P)
I dedicate to that factory and the cavalcade of conveyor belts it contains.

And I also dedicate to statements with explanations and statements without, and the equalities and importances which they share.

*nods*

AND I DEDICATE TO METAPHORICAL SMILES ON METAPHORICAL FACES THAT WE COULDN'T SEE EVEN IF THEY WERE REAL BECAUSE THESE ARE LETTERS NOT IMAGERY TRANSMISSIONS, WHICH ARE THERE BECAUSE OF PURE HAPPINESS.

@Taia: Beautiful addition to my metaphor. :) :) :)
I feel like starting crying.
That was perfect.
LIFE IS A CONVEYOR BELT OKAY. :)
Good ded. :)

Hey.
Hey hey.
Say you fell off your conveyor belt, what would happen?
Or what if you landed on someone else's conveyor belt?
. . .
I think it might be impossible to land on someone else's. You'd just bounce off, maybe. Maybe it has repellent on it.
And if you hit the ground, you die.
So if you commit suicide . . .
You just jump off the belt.

And if you meet somebody . . . maybe their conveyor belts move alongside yours a bit. :) And maybe someone's conveyor belt sticks with you for ages, but one day it just takes them away from you. And maybe those people who briefly have their conveyor belts cross above yours and then glide off . . . maybe they're people you see but don't know, people you pass in the street, people who work at checkouts in shops and people who post YouTube comments on videos you watch, and you read them and then forget their display name and maybe even their comment.

Your smile that doesn't exist but would if you weren't a faceless bubble (although bubbles are spheres and so by the geometrical viewpoint of three-dimensional shapes, spheres have one face, like a cube has six faces or a dodecahedron has twelve faces - so I guess in a sense, you do have a face, of sorts?) passed on a smile that 100% does exist (but that you still can't see except through punctuation combinations resembling the basic shape of our universal non-verbal communications of happiness) to me. And I am wearing it and it is good. :)
