Ah, 2013... I knew you well.
It was a good year for me, all things considered. A busy one, of course- but when is it ever any different? The Maleficent Seven and Last Stand of Dead Men were both released, delivering to me the most shocking revelation of all — that there's only one Skulduggery Pleasant left. Yes, technically I KNEW it was coming, but it still kinda took me by surprise to find myself writing the final book in the series.
So what else did I get up to in 2013? Let's recap, shall we?
January - dipped my toes into Twitter. Discovered Twitter to be basically quicksand, and so was unable to pull toes out. Still being dragged under.
February - I did an event at the Imagine festival in London, showing clips from movies that inspired Skulduggery. So much FUN.
March - Went to Germany. As usual, had an insane amount of fun and was kept incredibly busy for the entire time. The Maleficent Seven was unleashed upon an unsuspecting world.
Also met Steven Moffat and compared notes on how to traumatise people. (Speaking of which - The Time of the Doctor, eh? I'll miss Matt Smith, and it was so good seeing my beloved Amy back for a few seconds...)
April - was spent writing.
May - Started yapping to Ronda Rousey's mum. Which is, I think, an event worthy of an entire month.
June - this month consisted of me editing, touring, playing video games and watching movies. Not a bad way to spend a few weeks.
July - Read Geek Girl. Met Holly Smale. Holly Smale fell in love with me. It happens.
August - Last Stand of Dead Men released. Could life get any better?
September - My doggy died. This year I have had to put down my three dogs. I now have no dogs left. Ali's death sucked most of all.
October - My Doctor Who short story was released. Yay!
November - Writing for Book Nine.
December - Writing for Book Nine.
And how shall I be spending my New Year's Eve, you wonder? Will I be partying? Will I be singing? Carousing?
Nope. I'll be writing. And I'll be writing happily.
In closing, I'd like to thank all of you for your support, thank you for reading, thank you for being nice to each other, and for supporting each other. It's because of you that I am able to do the thing I love every single day.
I hope 2014 is kind to us all.
But especially me.

Adra- I think the point is that every now and then, a few people actually do start feeling rebellious, and that's the part that even 1000 years can't squish, but the rebellions are put down right away, and everyone knows there is not even a slight chance that the rebellion would succeed.
Star, what's the name of this book, if you don't mind telling me? I think I'd like to read it.
Also, your analogy about hurricanes- have you heard of weather warfare? It's sort of a conspiracy theory thing, but it basically says that there are a few governments who figured out how to change/create weather. People have theorized that Hurricane Katrina was created by another country and sent to America, and that the storm system that developed a year afterwards that was blocking the exact path Hurricane Katrina took was a defense the USA put up to stop something like that from happening again. Regardless of whether or not any of that is true, it brings up the idea that weather- even something as powerful as a hurricane- can be controlled, and even if we don't have the technology now I don't believe for a second that it's impossible. So theoretically, the people could rebel against the hurricanes that plague them, they'd just need a lot of science and equipment. Which would be very hard to get, but not impossible.

S'ok Zaf :)
Hey Star! Hi Adra!
Hey Ari!
OMG I love that conspiracy :P
And yeah, I do, but... You know, I still think what I think. Although I'll have to read this book, by the way.
Hello!
Hi Ari!
Ellie Goulding is amazing. Just thought I'd share that with you lot
Hey Zaf!
Hello to everyone else, as well!
#ChaseForBook9
Hello people who arrived...
Even so- if everyone just said "screw it" and worked together...
Okay
It COULD fail
But if they were to succeed...?
*pokes Ari* Wassup? I read your chapter
And if all the rebellions are killed . . . then all the rebellious people, or most of them, are dead.
Also - they don't believe in anything. They have no vision. The religions kept on fighting after the kingdoms and armies had fallen, because they had hope and belief and faith and numerous things, depending on the people and the religion. Now, there are no religions. And people don't love the Lord Ruler, just fear him.
The Keepers are a sect who try to remember, remember how things were.
But although one of the characters knows about over five hundred religions (they're his speciality), he can't remember what his own people's was. They've never been able to recover it.
And also, his people have nearly been beaten to extinction. Because of that sect, that whole species of people has been attacked, even the ones who have nothing to do with it. Their breeding is controlled and they're trained to be obedient servants from birth.
Even the one with them, trying to rebel . . . he still strongly sticks to his training. Still really servant-y.
The environment you grow up in affects you.
I'm going to stick to my spring analogy for this one
It's the first book in the Mistborn series. The title is The Final Empire. The author is Brandon Sanderson.
I'm glad you're interested. :)
@Ari: Thanks for that. :) That's very interesting, good to think about, and raises questions.
A few people obviously feel rebellious. But that's controlled.
@Adra: Firstly, everyone's too scared to work together. Secondly, how would they? Thirdly, no one ever works together completely smoothly.
#ChaseForBookNine
@Adra: Good for you. :) :) It's a really good analogy.
I'm sure Mithria will be glad to know what I've started here. XD
Even Kelsier . . . he was basically caught. He was trying to break into the Lord Ruler's palace. He did, he was caught, and was sent to this place where you work until you die. No one survives.
He escaped. He's the only one ever to escape in living memory.
My point is . . . the rebellious people are always caught.
#ChaseForBookNine
First- fear can be overcome
Second- the bit of information or event or scene or idea with a but of proof is enough to spark hope, or... Something into the people.
Third- of course.
I tend to contradict myself a good bit regarding rebellions and such until I've had some time to properly think, because on one hand I am very rebellious by nature. When I get my mind set against something, I just do not shut up until I've changed it in whatever way I can. Rebelling against any kind of oppression (or just forced unpleasantness- I really can't say I'm being oppressed all that much in the nice life I'm fortunate enough to have) is so ingrained in my nature. On the other hand, I was a ballerina for 11 years. I went to a serious school. I learned to shut up and do as I'm told, and I never forgot that lesson. Last year, to introduce us to the book 1984, my english teacher came into our classroom as Big Brother, and started barking out orders and executing people. My instinctual response, when being yelled at to complete a task, is to complete the task. That's it. Not complain, or refuse to go along with it, or try to stop my classmates from being executed. I protested just a few minutes later, but my immediate response was to be completely obedient. So on the other hand, I believe in people's instinctual desires for freedom, and I think people should rebel. But on the other hand, some part of me just wants people to shut up and do as they're told. But I only actually want people to shut up and do as they're told under certain circumstances. It's just that whether or not I agree with it, that part of me is always there, and that makes it pretty easy for me to accept that rebellions are rare and futile.
#ChaseForBook9
Gtg now. BYE!
Hey Moss! *hugs*
Yep- I read your comment, Zaf. :) I wasn't sure exactly what you meant by it, but I'm going to take the fact that it impacted you at all as a compliment, so thanks.
#ChaseForBook9
Hmmm I'm not entirely sure my thoughts on rebellion
Bye Rhydian! *hugs*
#ChaseForBook9
ELLIE GOULDING IS MY BABE<3
How Long Will I Love You tho :')
I think that is now the official Harralie song :P
Sorry btw, distant. Trying to draw Harralie...!
See, I think I would probably be somewhat like the person Star just mentioned, who wants to rebel but at the same time is still very trained and obedient in a sense.
#ChaseForBook9
I'm just floating brainlessly through what ought to be an interesting conversation, so I might go work on the belated Christmas presents for people. Wbd/ghosting!
That's awesome, Mara! Will you show us when you're done?
#ChaseForBook9
Ok, Moss. *hugs* Feel free to pitch in anytime you want.
#ChaseForBook9
HARRALIEEEEEE
Bye Rhy!
I think that is a very good... Balance. And I can understand that yes, I do as I'm told, but I can't stand to be yelled at to do something. (Unless I joined the marines, I suppose)
I could do that, if it's for the benefit of someone else.
It really just depends on the situation. But I. I'm yelled at for a crude reason, I will probably fight back
Meant that in a shocked way.
*hits head into tree* oh Ari would you be able to help me? I said Nic copy had tortured Liv but I have no idea what he'd do to her. Well Hyde also tortured her so I know what Hyde did but Nic is just I'm not sure
Okay Mara, Fabi *hugs both*
Meh... I might RP a bit- I have to start annotating, and RPing is a bit less attention- needing as this conversation
I mean
In the way that the convo requires hard thinking, which I can't do while annotating. I'll try to keep up though))
Ummm well I can't draw but I'll see if it looks good when I'm done:P
Well... *considers* What condition is she in? What did they find out is wrong with her?
#ChaseFrBook9
@Ari: *nods* Interesting.
I've noticed how contradictory I am. How I am so one thing, but so the opposite. Like being such a peaceful person, and getting really angry about some thing. More peaceful than most and more angry than most, at the same time.
People are odd.
And we're very complex. People kind of have urges to do everything, somewhere.
@Adra: Fear can be overcome, but possibly they fear dying and getting all their friends and family killed. The book mentioned that if a skaa Misting (one of the groups of people with powers) was discovered, they were killed, and then all their family were killed to prevent them passing on the genes.
They have the power to do these things.
Secondly - yes. At the beginning, someone, an outsider, was trying to get these plantation skaa to rebel. They were just like, no way, and told him to stop being a troublemaker because he'd get all of them beaten.
Then he, um, killed the master and burnt his house down and ran away.
The plantation skaa thought - well, if we stick around here, we'll be blamed and executed. Therefore, they ran off and joined the rebellion. Where else could they go?
So I do agree with you, Adra. :)
#ChaseForBookNine
Hayley determined her to be in some form of an unconsious state amd every part of her body has some type of cut on it, she also has a fever thats extremely high and her one arm has like...boyles or something (that knife he used on her i forget how it was but her skin was breakig)
(Mara you can draw :P)
*Finishes braiding her hair, and slips on a new dress- one in her typical New Years color- red*
*Sits down in her chair with a pad and pen, trying something new*
*Begins to draw the basement that she lived in when she was younger*
((I'm willing to roleplay if anyone wants to))
(Yes, but here's what I'm saying- miraculously, they manage to convince the people. The people who will gladly become martyrs for each other. When they have the fire like in Merlin. All they would need is a little proof, a nugget of knowledge to give them hope- because wouldn't the better life be worth dying for?)
@Adra: Sorry. *laughs* You can stop conversing if you want. :)
And - in Merlin, if Merlin's told to do something by Arthur, he does it. They may laugh and joke around, but he does it, beacsue he's his servant.
Merlin and Arthur have a special bond.
If you're not friends - you master tells you to do something, you do it.
And if you're a slave, and will be severely punished for resisting?
*shrugs*
Also - if you've never resisted in your whole life? If you've spent your life trying to look invisible? Lot of anti-resistance instincts there.
@Mara: YAAAY! :) *hugs* I'm sure you'll do ace. :) :) :)
@lantern: Okay. :) *hugs*
@Ari: You and him aren't alike (not that I've noticed), personality-wise, but yeah. :P
#ChaseForBookNine
(Real quick-
So I had a dream last night that I moved from my old house into a smaller, new house, and I quite loved it, but then we got a horse and it started raining, so I couldn't take her to the field, but I got to cuddle with her through the night and feed her in this weird scooper thing that the fry people at McDonalds use for fries, and then we were being chased by a royal army or something
And I woke up
But I got a horse. In living memory, I know EXACTLY whichever horse she was- and she was a white silver color with grey speckles :P
But she was trained
So I could canter her)
@Adra: Maybe. *shrugs* But a lot of people don't believe you can get it.
And they don't have any proof that they can do it.
They can just try and convince people.
But if the people are discovered, bye-bye, dead.
#ChaseForBookNine
@Adra: YAAAAAAAAAY! :) *hugs* Glad you had a nice dream. :)
#ChaseForBookNine
(Merlin also does it because he is Arthur's friend. Sure, he might not like cleaning the stables and whatnot, but he still enjoys what he does, and he doesn't get mercilessly beaten by Arthur- they still have a laugh, and Merlin teases him often)
(Well, that's why they need to find the proof, then? To show the people that they are worth it, and they deserve to be free.
I think anything can be found, if one looks hard enough)
((I don't think the obedient part of me usually shows in my personality. The guy I mentioned earlier who had a crush on my for five years- he was in my english class when that happened, and he was actually really surprised that for the longest time, I didn't do anything. That I was basically a model servant for a few minutes.))
((I would, Fabi, but I'm sort of tied up here... Still want to go back, though... Gr...))
Every part of her body- do you mean internal organs as well, or...? *sighs* Where is she? I can just call him to heal her, that'll be easier. If he's infected her with someting- which it sounds like he has- it's possible no one but him will even know what it is.
#ChaseForBook9
(Perhaps not Adra, Fabi- but I can see if I can get someone else?)
Sanctuary. He's done a good job of confusing Hayley. Though I want to come with because she probably won't react well to seeing him alone.
@Adra: That's why Merlin is awesome. <3
But other people do it just because they have to.
It's like my mum was saying about work today. There are too many manager-people, so they need something to tell people to do, so they give people pointless jobs. People do the pointless jobs because they have to get paid and get food and pay their mortgage off, so they stop actually working with their instincts. When they're a nurse and they check an old lady's pulse, they're not looking at her, seeing how she is, they have their minds on their lists of jobs, because they're not working with instinct and va anymore. They're completing a list.
And that's why an old lady died of dehydration in a hospital beacsue no one was giving her water and no one noticed, and that's why my mum and my granddad were discussing it, and that's why I overheard and keep ranting about it.
People do what they have to do to survive.
Also, they have no free time to think.
#ChaseForBookNine
@Adra: Kaykay. *nods*
@Adra: They're not looking, though. They're just trying to overthrow. :P
They have an ace plan, though. :)
#ChaseForBookNine
Of course. *whips out a phone and dials one digit* *waits for it to ring, then hangs up and puts the phone away*
#ChaseForBook9
@Adra: Also - there is proof. The Lord Ruler is not infallible. Why would he make everyone come to watch executions to show them how powerful he was if he was powerful enough to survive without trying to make them think he was powerful?
#ChaseForBookNIne
*smirks* I can't picture Nic with a phone.
Well. I tried.:P
Bbs, shower and dinner:)
((Don't worry about it.))
HARRALIEEEEEEE
*appears between Aretha and Zafira* I've acquired one, for the time being. It is convenient. *teleports both of them to the Sanctuary*

((I shall have to leave any moment now, I fear.))

*She yawns slightly, finishing her drawing* *Looks on it sadly*
*Flips the page*

@Adra: Okay. :)

i'm crying
#ChaseForBookNIne
((Certainly, although I cannot say when.))
*lays a hand over Olivia's shoulder and heals* That ought to heal most everything aside from some light, superficial wounds, but it is not likely that she will wake for roughly an hour. Is that all you needed me for?
#ChaseForBook9
(What happened, Star?)
I guess well, thank you actualy..maybe later on you could help me with hand to hand combat...
Hayley: *has watched him stunned*
It's very interesting, though. I think, judged on the past few minutes, that I definitely rely upon this place. When I type here, I'm portraying my thoughts and feelings. Typing them into solid words helps order the great mass of conscienceness inside me, helps me define it and look at it in a logical structure. Also, it's sort of like I'm portraying a character. Except, you know, portraying myself. It becomes less real.
When I'm feeling great emotion, it helps to type it out, because I contain it. Also, it seems less real, so when I type it, I'm more thinking about it so I can write it properly than feel it.
Damn, this is interesting.
Oh, but people; Lavender's fanfic-ing my story.
I swear, she's awesome. :)
#ChaseForBookNIne
*feeling it
#ChaseForBookNine
(*Hugs Star*)
"It might be a little different than how you would write it though, because I'm going to write it in my style. Meaning their speech might be different and maybe less... Crazy."
Oh, gosh. *giggles*
You know, I love it when people tell me I'm crazy like that. Seriously, I do. It feels like a compliment and makes me laugh. :)
Hey, you know the philosopher guy in that book? The one I really relate to?
Kelsier said/thought that he considered questions no sane man would think about.
Basically, I'm officially insane. XD

*She sinks to the floor, pulling out her chalk, and beginning to draw a symbol, murmuring*
((Yes it is, isn't it? Sorry... Watching the Rose Parade, drawing and writing.))
(:P Aye Star )
(Yes it is, Ari)
*The symbol cracks, and opens, and Adra is surprised to see that it is actually working for her*
*Glances through, to see the familiar, snow covered fields as the air rushes out, cold as hell*
*Shivers*
Right. Quick trip, then..
(It is I'm just kibda waiting for you to return xD)
That email was longer than some of the ones I send to Eve. :O
And there is a REASON me and Eve only reply once every few weeks.

Star, do you have time to read the newest part of my ME fanfic yet?

*Kneels by a pile of blackened paper, faint words on it*

That's true, Mara...

Oh my god. There's only one Skulduggery book left. I'm going to just cry now.
(*Pats Robin's shoulder*)
What am I supposed to do with my life.
I'm actually crying.
No.
(I don't know what to say... *hugs* Derek will still write. You'll get trough it, I promise. All things come to and end, but that doesn't mean we forget they happened)
Well, I've been in denial up until now, apparently. Oops. I'm just going to *slips out*

I might hold a funeral anyway because of course, /someone's/ going to die. Actually. A lot of people will probably die.
Including me.
(We all will
I don't think there's that much left of me that can die.
(There may be some left though LSODM killed me

OH MY GOSH.
I LOVE THIS CHARACTER SO MUCH (yes, I'm talking about the book I'm reading again).
HE'S /MAD/. :)
He does things nobody would even consider, that you wouldn't even think of, and yet they're so logical in a way, but they're just INSANE. :)
It reminds me of Hunter.
It's awesome.
I'm not goinmg to say what he's just done, because spoilers, but I LOVE it. <3

Hello.
Sorry I randomly disappeared earlier. Long story.
Stones taught me to fly,
Love taught me to lie,
Life taught me to die,
So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannonball...
Little Mix were so cute in the X Factor c:
Helloooo everyoneeee :)
Hullo Dragona, Maralie
Hello everyone :) hope you all had a good new years eve!
Hi Dragona, Mara, Flora.
I stand by my opinion that the only people to be in the X-Factor who were any good are Leona Lewis and Ant & Seb.
Ant and Seb were clearly the best, though.
Never liked anyone else who was on the X-Factor. I don't like any of their songs nor the people who sing them.
(Flora! Hi! OFC!)
Lights just flickered...
Ghosting
Hello Fabi, Adra, Flora, Star and Dragona! :) *hugs*
Eeeeeeee I might be allowed get Little Mix make-up if I can order it onlineeeeee:))))))
And I need a t-shirt for the concert. NEED. I hope they sell them there. Hmmm.
Eeeeee Little Mix :D
Hey Edward!
Hello Dragona
Well Little Mix won the X Factor, and were the first group to do so. That must mean they are talented. :)
And One Direction came third and look how massive they are now. That must mean they're talented too. :)
I'm not sure I want to give my sister this book.
She won't understand it.
Oh my gosh.
I think I'm just going to go off and cry for turdy-seven years now, to borrow a phrase from Mara.
@Dragona: Considering you've never met most of the people who sing them (I'm assuming), then that's a bit judgemental of you.

Now everyone comes...
Hello Zafira
Hey parrot-man and dragonia
Hello Turtle girl
*explodes*
It shows that people vote for them. Not that they're talented. ^^
I'm not trying to offend you, Maralie, but I don't like one direction. I'm fine that you do, but their music just tends to annoy me. Then again, I'm mainly a 80s music fan.
I don't really like the people who are in the group, either. They just seem cocky and love themselves too much, to me. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, though, and I won't argue about it because you're right as much as I am. :)
[hugs Maralily] I'm so glad you get to see them. :-)
Again, tis turtle chic because girl suggests im a sidekick, and I am so not
Oh god damn it, now I have to dedicate.
Welcome all
Ok, turtle chic. Or Penguin queen?
Greetings Adrasdos
