Ah, 2013... I knew you well.
It was a good year for me, all things considered. A busy one, of course- but when is it ever any different? The Maleficent Seven and Last Stand of Dead Men were both released, delivering to me the most shocking revelation of all — that there's only one Skulduggery Pleasant left. Yes, technically I KNEW it was coming, but it still kinda took me by surprise to find myself writing the final book in the series.
So what else did I get up to in 2013? Let's recap, shall we?
January - dipped my toes into Twitter. Discovered Twitter to be basically quicksand, and so was unable to pull toes out. Still being dragged under.
February - I did an event at the Imagine festival in London, showing clips from movies that inspired Skulduggery. So much FUN.
March - Went to Germany. As usual, had an insane amount of fun and was kept incredibly busy for the entire time. The Maleficent Seven was unleashed upon an unsuspecting world.
Also met Steven Moffat and compared notes on how to traumatise people. (Speaking of which - The Time of the Doctor, eh? I'll miss Matt Smith, and it was so good seeing my beloved Amy back for a few seconds...)
April - was spent writing.
May - Started yapping to Ronda Rousey's mum. Which is, I think, an event worthy of an entire month.
June - this month consisted of me editing, touring, playing video games and watching movies. Not a bad way to spend a few weeks.
July - Read Geek Girl. Met Holly Smale. Holly Smale fell in love with me. It happens.
August - Last Stand of Dead Men released. Could life get any better?
September - My doggy died. This year I have had to put down my three dogs. I now have no dogs left. Ali's death sucked most of all.
October - My Doctor Who short story was released. Yay!
November - Writing for Book Nine.
December - Writing for Book Nine.
And how shall I be spending my New Year's Eve, you wonder? Will I be partying? Will I be singing? Carousing?
Nope. I'll be writing. And I'll be writing happily.
In closing, I'd like to thank all of you for your support, thank you for reading, thank you for being nice to each other, and for supporting each other. It's because of you that I am able to do the thing I love every single day.
I hope 2014 is kind to us all.
But especially me.

Elizabeth: I'm afraid that his wolf could possibly be demented. This could be causing the unusual behaviour in Lorcan's personality as we're seeing.
Its rare for a wolf to become demented but not uncommon. If there is a bad infection around the bite wound, that can seep into the wolf's genetic makeup as its forming. And even then, we don't notice that the wolf has become demented until it is hungry. Then it will stop at nothing to get a meal.

Elizabeth: It's called an intrusion procedure.
Our wolves aren't just physical entities that share our bodies. They are there mentally as well, when we aren't in form, they have their own mental plain.
The intrusion procedure involves a transfer of psyches. Which allows me to enter into that wolf's world and see what exactly has happened.
Its a painless procedure and will hopefully give us a better insight into what happened to Lorcan's wolf in particular.

Fabi stops for rest under a tree. It's a nice tree, and she hopes the assassins don't destroy it when they catch up. They will catch up, even though Fabi had several hours of a head start.
She thinks about the fight against Mevolent, and how she'd told Ari she would help. Who was she kidding? She had a lot to deal with right now. Besides that, she was afraid, afraid that either people wouldn't hear her, or they'd think her ideas were stupid, or that her ideas would be stupid, and she'd lead everyone into a trap.
Her phone rang, and she looked at the screen. Liz. Camille. Cam.
A tear trickled down Fabi's face as she put the phone away. Everything that'd been happening to Liz was her fault...
She curled up into a ball for a few minutes, then realized she should probably get moving again. She stood and walked briskly in the direction of the bus station, her eyes clear but her heart heavy.

Elizabeth: When you're ready just say the word. When I inject you, it will be like just falling asleep and once you open your eyes again you should be in Lorcan's wolf's zone.
Now I don't know what could be in there, what is in there or what could be. So expect anything.
Alexis: *listens carefully* So its like reading a mind almost...

You just have to be mindful of his wolf. I don't know what state it could be in or how erratic it's behaviour will be.

"A goatee, then? I've been practicing my goatees. They look less fake. Of course, if you use the Force, you can tell they aren't there, but nobody bothers with that anymore, so you should be fine."
"I don't need a goatee, but thank you."
"Well, what is it, then? I thought you could do the basic stuff yourself. Oh, by the way, you aren't on my appointment list, and I don't particularly consider you a friend, so you'll have to pay 15% extra."
"I'm not here for a disguise. I'm here because I owe some friends of yours. And could you please call me Rook? Will Aster is a traitor to pretty much everything and has a lot of people who want to kill him."
"And yet you claim not to need a disguise. Hmph. Fine, I guess you can come in, but if you try to kill me, I'm turning your hair pink and hitting you on the head with an anvil."
Rook tried not to laugh. "Point taken."
He followed Effie to a room marked "Sitting room/wig storage." It was pretty much what the sign said, a room with sofas and a table with a mirror and wigs on every visible surface, to the point of being creepy. Effie sat on the only free spot on the sofa, leaving Rook to shove aside a few wigs or sit on them. He moved a pile aside and sat down, after checking that nothing on the sofa was trapped.
"So, for starters, not killing Ioux was a mistake. I don't know who's mistake it was, yours or Liz's, but you should have killed him when you had the chance."
Effie started to say something accusing, but Rook held up his hand. "He went back and told his bosses, what did you expect? And then he started sending assassins after Fabi, and using that as blackmail against Liz. He ordered her to kill you. He doesn't like that you two bested him."
"Who the hell are you? And don't say Rook. I've never heard of a Rook."
"Let's see... Will Aster, Reynard Charon, a bunch of people who died and/or disappeared, Evan Flint, Sebastian... I forgot his last name, though." Effie still looked pretty blank. "Basically, I'm a lot of people in a lot of places. I guess you don't know most of them. Charon worked for the same circle as Ioux, but Evan Flint worked for the Sanctuary and provided them with some...information. Ioux found out about it and managed to inject me with the same poison as Fabi." Rook grimaced slightly as he thought back.
As he explained the whole situation with the blackmail and Ioux and his bosses, Effie's face was completely blank. Her only visible reaction was in her hair, which switched back and forth between its usual short black style and shoulder-length and blonde. Rook frowned slightly, fairly sure that the blankness was an illusion. He waited for Eff to say something.
Time...
More time...
Rook lost count of the seconds somewhere in the four hundred. He restarted...
"Well, that's a mess. What do you expect me to do about it? Besides believe you. You already seem to expect that."
"I was hoping you'd be able to talk some sense into Liz. She doesn't trust me. Guess she has no reason to."
"I can do a bit better than that," Effie said with a grin. She pulled out what looked like a butterfly net. "Where's Ioux?"
