Ah, 2013... I knew you well.
It was a good year for me, all things considered. A busy one, of course- but when is it ever any different? The Maleficent Seven and Last Stand of Dead Men were both released, delivering to me the most shocking revelation of all — that there's only one Skulduggery Pleasant left. Yes, technically I KNEW it was coming, but it still kinda took me by surprise to find myself writing the final book in the series.
So what else did I get up to in 2013? Let's recap, shall we?
January - dipped my toes into Twitter. Discovered Twitter to be basically quicksand, and so was unable to pull toes out. Still being dragged under.
February - I did an event at the Imagine festival in London, showing clips from movies that inspired Skulduggery. So much FUN.
March - Went to Germany. As usual, had an insane amount of fun and was kept incredibly busy for the entire time. The Maleficent Seven was unleashed upon an unsuspecting world.
Also met Steven Moffat and compared notes on how to traumatise people. (Speaking of which - The Time of the Doctor, eh? I'll miss Matt Smith, and it was so good seeing my beloved Amy back for a few seconds...)
April - was spent writing.
May - Started yapping to Ronda Rousey's mum. Which is, I think, an event worthy of an entire month.
June - this month consisted of me editing, touring, playing video games and watching movies. Not a bad way to spend a few weeks.
July - Read Geek Girl. Met Holly Smale. Holly Smale fell in love with me. It happens.
August - Last Stand of Dead Men released. Could life get any better?
September - My doggy died. This year I have had to put down my three dogs. I now have no dogs left. Ali's death sucked most of all.
October - My Doctor Who short story was released. Yay!
November - Writing for Book Nine.
December - Writing for Book Nine.
And how shall I be spending my New Year's Eve, you wonder? Will I be partying? Will I be singing? Carousing?
Nope. I'll be writing. And I'll be writing happily.
In closing, I'd like to thank all of you for your support, thank you for reading, thank you for being nice to each other, and for supporting each other. It's because of you that I am able to do the thing I love every single day.
I hope 2014 is kind to us all.
But especially me.

I once had an experience somewhat like hunter. Lord Artypants infact. Just came into my head one day and a story built itself up around him, how he was the lord of the underworld, how he first got it, all sorts of stuff. However something a bit differenth appened then. I sort of became Lord Artypants. I acted as if I was the lord of the Underworld, visiting Earth and pretending to be a teenage schoolchild. It was quite fun, but it consumed my life, and one day he was just gone. That was a weird year.

Noise cannot travel through a black hole or a wormhole
Even if noise can't travel in space because there isn't any air, your body would still be making noise, so although silence may be possible, no living person can ever be there to witness it.

Adra is very real to me- in a way, she is me, just a different side of me, you know? If she feels happy, I feel happy, if I feel sad, she feels sad...
But unlike Ari, I don't hear voices
And unlike Star- if I'm interpreting this right- she isn't in some different reality, talking to me.
So
I don't really know the feeling you have.
I guess I can understand- that Adra, I know everything about her, even things she doesn't know about herself, and sometimes I don't think when I write, I just GO, and she will do what she will do... Kinda just like tapping into something. I don't think. Just write..
But writing is different for everyone. So... Yeah.)

Ari but I mean its not like Nic would stop talking I mean he knows that you're the only way to actually have a voice here. It'd be cool to take te voices you have and make him a real person living and all but in a way Nic is real, he has a voice and if you didnt tell us he was you I'd have thought him a person, aka with a body to call his own. I fewl that way with my characters sometimes Zaf talks a lot she likes to but I can easily switch to the mindset of Javier or Olivia or Alexis and Christopher is devoloping he's sort of quiet but he's begun to evolve a bit with personality, he kinda came to me when I was thinking and he wrote himself into where he is now he also basically told me what he wants to study and other things
(Actually, I might not have much of a layover in Chalotte... So when I get back, it might be around 5/6 my time... 10/11 Over-The-Pond time.)

I've never actually written ArethaTC because like Ed, and like Adra, (not saying that any of these are exactly the same, just similar in some ways, if I understand properly) Aretha is basically me. But I've never written myself into the story before- I've always just used other characters- so it took me a lot of getting used to. And obviously there are a few differences, but that's basically just my best attempt at portraying myself.
Every other character I've ever written for was an entirely separate entity. Most of them, I'd consider my friends. But I'm used to writing for other people more so than myself.
Star- I'm still not sure if he actually left your head or not, though. Like, is he still there, but also in someone else's, or did he just go?

I don't know if he's left. *shrugs* I suppose, really . . . I've had problems making the story flow for a while now. And when it isn't flowing in the roleplay or in the writing or in your head, then you know. It sort of adds up in a horrible sort of way.
On holiday, I spent hours walking around the bikes behind the campervan. There were the woods behind us so no one could really see me, and I just walked around the bikes, and I, you know . . . I could just do that, for ages and ages, thinking, and now I can't.
And idk.
I suppose I'm just a really possessive person. And things often just seem to hit me funny and matter in odd ways. You know when you're little and innocent and not harded to the evility of authors, and you read a book, and a character you like dies, and you're just . . . it's just horrible, because it's not SUPPOSED to happen. And it's just . . . it's not allowed to happen, and it did, and it's just . . . it's shattered, and twisted, and horrible, and it's stained dark and it's not fair, because it was so . . . idk, it existed. And I hated it when people stole my pens, because they were my pens, they were mine. And maybe to other people they were only pens, but they were mine. They were special. They were unique and they . . . they were MINE.
And I've had many objects stolen from me, so I've just stopped lending pens and also I'm used to the loss (I couldn't handle it if my pen got stolen, though. It's the only pen I use, and I've had it for years now), but when my scissors got stolen . . . I'd had them over three years, and maybe they were a bit crappy, but they were mine. I knew what they looked like and I'd used them and . . . idk, I knew them. And I have over three years of memories of using those scissors, and they were blue, and one handle was a darker blue than the other, but despite the inequality of colour they weren't left-handed, and when I was younger I'd stuck a piece of sticky label on one of the metal blades and written my name on it fountain pen. "Holly." And the piece of paper had got very dirty, because living in a pen case does that things go grey, and the edges had worn off, and so it wasn't very noticeable. And it double up as a mini very crappy ruler, with centimetre measurements along one blade. And the handles wobbled slightly, and you could hold the scissors open and wobble it, because the two halves weren't fastened together 100% tightly. And the screw in the middle holding them together was rounded and flat on one side, and looked like a screwhead on the other.
And maybe I'd never felt attached to my scissors when they were with me, but I knew them. I was used to reaching into my pencil case. Anything I needed to cut up, I used them. And now there's sort of a hole left, and when I want scissors, I expect them to be there and they . . . aren't.
My point is, I get attached to things. They gain a place in my life, and when they're gone, a tiny piece of me is missing. Because humans have many aspects to them, and I was the girl with the crappy blue scissors. And I remember putting my name on them. You know, the labelling. Like, welcome to the gang. Because I was much more sentimental to objects when I was younger. And . . . if Sherlock Holmes got my scissors, he could deduce many things about me from them, because we had a bond. Maybe I never loved them, not really, but we bonded, and they became a part of me and I became a part of them. And Sherlock could tell things about me from the scissors because part of me is in those scissors.
And I just feel so sorry for my scissors.
And guilty that I let that happen to them.
And you know.
And I wonder if they miss me.

Star, I think Hunter is still in your head because you created him so he can't ever really leave. The person who's head he has gone into will never be able to imagine him exactly the way you do, so he's still your character but the other one is like from another dimension.

He said that non-existent people existed, and when people told me that people didn't matter because they didn't exist, I would tell that what Hunter would argue to them, and I'm not quite sure when I decided to adapt the philosophy for myself but now I do.

Even if he goes, though . . . I think that's okay. I think it is. Because he came and he transformed who I am, and now I know a lot more about the world and look at a lot of things differently, and . . . and maybe that's the purpose of it all.
And so long as there was some sort of purpose, I think that's okay.

I'm just irresistible, I know...
I suppose Sykamere is non-existent. I've never written about him or anything but he's not like I am, so none of you know who I am. I didn't try to invent Sykamere though and I didn't necessarily want to, but he just happened on his own.
I wish I could be a little more like him though, he's a better person than I am but I guess he came about because I wasn't happy with the way I was and sub-consciously was fantasizing about how I would want to be.
Then again, it could all be in my head.
I was thinking yesterday that there's sort of a 'before' and an 'after'. There's 'before emotional-screwed-uppyness' and 'after emotional-screwed-uppyness', and I can't really compare how I feel about things over that line. Like . . . when I read that book - I didn't know if it was actually that great, or if I just thought so because my emotions had decided to be admiring at the moment. And I couldn't really say if I like dit, because my my emotions just liked it.
Then again - I have to reread a load of books now, because I'm different to how I was a year or two ago and I know I judge things differently now, so I have to reread them to give an up-to-date opinion on them, so it isn't so different. Like when I was younger I just sort of read. Now I'll be thinking and analysing when I read. So I need to reopinionate them.

If you don't have anyone else, that's totally fine, and I'll just go back to doing what I've been doing. But if there is anyone else you know who might be interested in the position... If you do know someone else, I- I would really like to go back to being a foot soldier. I've been sending small squads of people into Mevolent's fortress almost daily to retrieve prisoners and try to figure out his plans and everything, and... I'd much rather go back to being one of them. I'm really just not cut out for this job. But if you do need me to do it, I will- I'm not going to complain or anything like that. I just... Needed to ask.

And- I do not envy you in the slightest. This has been happening since us kids began to fly alone, and it happens both ways, and it sucks)
I remember when I went to the 1D concert on the way back home (seven hour drive non-stop yay) we were caught in a huge freak blizzard type thing and we got stuck for like two hours and we were about to just get a hotel room which was worrying for my mam because we had my friend with me and she didn't really want to have to call her mam and say they had to stay in a hotel room. But then the snow actually stopped and we got home after nine hours :P
That really has nothing to do with the situation:/
