As was recently pointed out to me, "Nerdy Dalek" is an anagram of my name, so I suppose it's only fitting that my birthday should be the day my Doctor Who story comes out on ebook. The Mystery of the Haunted Cottage is a Tenth Doctor adventure and I had unimaginable fun writing it. For those of you who don't read ebooks, fret not- a physical book, containing all eleven stories by eleven writers, will be arriving late next month.
Ah yes, my birthday. I am 39 today. Some people might worry about reaching that age — just one more birthday till 40, after all. But not me. I shall live forever. And I don't mean in a metaphorical sense. I don't mean I'll live forever in the hearts and minds of my readers. I mean I will literally live forever, drawing as I do from your pain and suffering.
Your pain makes me strong.
Today is the day I knuckle down and officially start Book 9. I've been writing bits and pieces of it for the last few weeks — I've got close to 10,000 words done — but today it kicks off properly. October 23rd is, of course, the day Skulduggery died, hundreds of years ago. Once again, I think it's only fitting that I begin his final book on such a date. Poignant, even.

@Fabi: I kind of like fog. It always settles on one of the fields I pass on my way to school, so that all you see is the sheep standing in the cloud with their heads down. It's sweet. :)

We're playing this music from the Chronicles of Narnia in orchestra, and there's this piece called "Turned in for Sweets" and I love it so much (tried to find it on YouTube when I got home, but no cigar), but it's so hard to play! I don't have the hardest part, because we're divided and I have the bottom part, but I still can't play any of it and when it gets to the hard part I do have to play, I'm just like what! And it isn't even anywhere near as hard as the hard part!
It's amazing, though. :) My friend says she doesn't like it because it's too fast and menacing. -_- She likes the part where the trumpets (she's a cornet, remember) are going . . . *realises I can't hum it over the internet* Well, anyway. And that is beautiful. But yes. Maybe I'll show you my sheet music. It's really pretty. The quavers sort of bounce about for a few lines, and then they go zigzagging up and down and up and down. :) All that's what I don't have to play, though. Which is sort of disappointing, because I love the music. Even if I will no way be able to play that, not un these circumstances I mean, because it is possible and it is possible for me but MEHHHH. I'm ranting, now. :)

And, 'soupify' - I couldn't have described that better.
I kind of like walking in it, I don't know what, but you can't really see what's ahead of you, so you're only what's right around you - here. I like that.
It got foggier a lot more when I was living elsewhere, for a while. It was more open field over there, and you could sit in the car or just be walking and look across and see fog settling and hiding the green in a heavy-gentle kind of way.
There was the slight problem that the fields were not hedged or fenced off, there, though, and you'd be driving slowly because of the fog and suddenly a flock of sheep would appear out of nowhere, all huddled together on the road and you'd have to just sit and wait for them to tail away before you carry on.
Also, I remember looking down and away when it was evening or night, and seeing the orange streetlight glow on the roads, and the houses lit in the dark.
It was a nice place to live. Pretty. A few sheep made it into the backyard, from time to time. THere were a lot of birds out there in Winter, too. We got through a LOT of birdfeed for them.

Today, I made this really bad joke (Me and friend: *are walking through a humungous pile of leaves at the bottom of the steps* Friend: Why are there so many leaves? Me: Maybe they wanted to LEAVE the trees and go off on an adventure), and then I was like oops, because when I make bad jokes in stories, my other character can just tell them it's a bad joke (Or rather, say do something like - "*gives a look* Is that meant to be funny" "Ha ha, I'm laughing so much." "You'd think that your jokes would get better over time rather than worse, wouldn't you?" The reply to that last one being a terrible time-reversal joke including a time warp or going back to the future, and then the other character could tell them how terrible THAT joke was, and now I'm just getting carried away), and then it looks sort of intentional, the joke being bad, but when you say it in real life, you just look kind of silly. :)

I am currently writing a short story about a guy who loves to talk and generally talks when he's working stuff out in his head but he hates talking to himself to he gives his assistant hell by calling her at 3:00 in the morning just to talk at her for three hours. When she's not home or is sick of his sh**, he just leaves a 4 hour message on her answering machine. The story is about how he accidentally leaves a 4 hour message that is relevant to national security on the wrong answering machine, and he and his assistant have a wacky adventure to find and erase the tape . . .

. . . Yeah, just though of that at the word 'backwards'. :) Sorry for disappearing, my mum came in and started talking. My sister's getting 5a levels in English, which is really good (I'm awesome at English, and I remember feeling really proud when I got 5as in English), but her friend is apparently at a level 6c, and her target level's a 7, and my mum was saying that that couldn't be right, because in year nine I'd been stuck on a level 7c for practically all year, and I was the best in the class at English (ahem). And I ranted at how crap the target levels were and how I'd been predicated a B in English when I'd been the best in the class at English in both year eight and year nine, and how in physics Miss had actually gone round with a clipboard asking us what we wanted our target grades to be, because most of us had been predicted Bs and Cs and we're top set science and have all been getting As and A*s and she knew that we could do better, and how target grades were computer-generated from how you did in year seven, and how drawing targets from what you did three years ago when the subjects were entirely different was stupid, and my mum says that my sister's friend's mum would be phoning up the school asking why her daughter hadn't made any progress (because if she isn't that good at English, which my mum doesn't think she is judging from what she reads, she won't be at that level, and if she is at that level, she won't be taught at a level for her to be able to progress), even though she will have done, just not in levels, and then my mum said she bets me, by the end of the year my sister's friend'll be looking to go to this nearby posh private school, because that's just the sort of people they are. And she just feels really sorry for my sister, who's doing really well in English, and yet in comparison to her friend, she doesm't look like she's doing as well. And of course, there's always the not-to-be-outruled possibility that my sister's friend was making it up about her levels, because that sounds likely, for her.
And yeah. :/

Zaf, have you seen her? She's telling us to just let her handle herself, but clearly this illness is having a very negative affect on her, and I will not just sit by and let her suffer.
