161,556 words. That's how long the book is right now. I wanted to have the edit done by tonight, but unfortunately that's not going to happen. I'm up at 6 in the morning to catch a plane to Leeds, so I'm about to hit the sack.
Oh, and for those of you who were pleading with me to keep LSODM as long as possible... you've got your wish. My editor Nick and my agent Michelle both got back to me, suggesting tiny changes here and there, but nothing that would shorten the book.
So the HUGE amount of characters stay in. The MASSIVE battles stay in. The HILARIOUS jokes and LIGHTNING-FAST wit stay in. Verily, it is a good day to be a Minion.
And I've just been chatting to Laura, who calls it the "deepest and darkest one yet". So I've got her all-important seal of approval, which makes me happy.
When it's out, when you've read it, I'll talk more about the writing of it, and the various problems I had to deal with in order to make it work. Everything from Book Two onwards has been leading up to LSODM, after all. Of all the books, this is the one I was certain about from the very beginning, in 2005, but it was one I was the most unsure about when I was actually writing it. So it comes as a relief to know it's actually good.
So... tomorrow I'm in Leeds— the tickets to which are now sold out— and on Saturday I'm signing in Waterstones in York at 11AM— and no tickets needed.
I'm been really quiet lately, on the Blog and on Twitter, and I do apologise for that, but I had to devote all my attention to the book. Now that it's (practically) done, I can get back to normal. Which'll be... er... nice.

Haha, my irl friend was really sad yesterday all day because she'd killed this character off. She was called Jess (the character) and she was in a room with the boy (Jason) she was going out with and this other girl (called Eleanor), and it was first person from Eleanor's perspective. Jess was kind of mean, and she'd just told them her whole back story, first time she'd ever told anyone, and Eleanor was all O_O because now it all made sense, why she'd been mean, and for the first timke she understood her and felt sorry for her. And then 'they' (was never explained to me who they were) found them and started firing through the window, and they got down on the floor, and then they went away and Eleanor was thinking it's fine now, it's all over, the worst is over. And Eleanor had all this glass in her arm (from the shattered window) and she was picking it out. And then Jason was like are you okay and she was like yeah, and then he was like where's Jess?
And she was slumped in a corner and there was this massive piece of glass sticking out her torso, and she was bleeding loads, and Jason was saying don't worry, you'll be okay, you'll get better, you'l be okay. And Jess was like, I love you, I've always loved you.
And then she died.
And my friend said she was crying as she wrote it, and she was saying how she was a murderer because she'd killed Jess.
And I was trying to make her feel better about it all lunch.
(And our other friend said we were both mad for caring so much about people who didn't exist, and I told her that was discrimination and that just because people didn't exist didn't mean they weren't people and that they didn't have feelings (because that's what Hunter says. Admittedly, he is a nonexistant person himself, but he doesn't KNOW he's nonexistant, and ALSO admittedly, he MAAAAAAAAAAAAAY be slightly insane, but, um, yes.)
When my friend told me how Jess died I cried. XD And then she told the people nearby and I started crying again. And then we wee talking about it again and I cried againnnnnnnn. :P
And then today she was still sad, but she said she wasn't sad because Jess today, she was sad because she was going to make Jason attempt suicide. And he was going to fail but he was still going to get a broken leg. ANd she described all that to me as well. *Nialldles*

Hey. Sorry for poofing. I got distracted somewhere along the lines, then realised that because I'm done with my exams I CAN ALLOW MYSELF TO WRITE AGAIN.
So I dug out an OC idea I scribbled down very vaguely a few weeks back, temporarily named him the first thing which came to mind (which, luckily enough, was actually a NAME), and wrote the first couple of hundred words of SPFF I have done in over a year.

Can't remember rpimary, coz I never took much notice, but in year seven (first year of high) to year nine (third year of high), we did *deep breathe* maths, science, English, PE, dance (years seven and nine only), buisness (year seven only), art, Games, DT, IT, languages, music, drama, food and textiles (half a year for each), geography, history, religious studies, AND I THINK THAT'S IT. Years ten and eleven, you do maths, English, science, PE, religious studies, IT, and four additional subjects of your choice (but you can have a double-subject like that takes up two options).

In my school we eat lunch at 10:25 then go into the yard at half until 10:45. Then we eat again at 12:20 and go into the year at half until 1:00. It's not really split into different subjects in primary. The teacher just does a bit of everything. My teacher only gives a little bit of homework. As in this year it took me about 20 minutes. But some teachers give more. Not that much though.
Next year I'll have Irish, English, French or German, Maths, Science, History, Geography, OSSP, OSPS, religion and PE. And two others that don't have to be chosen until after we start.

@Star: My subjects went more along the line of:
Years 7 & 8: English, maths, science (switching between Biology, Chemistry and Physics every term or 12 weeks or something of the like), drama, music, Welsh, German (or French, for some. But you don't get to choose which you do), geography, history, RS, PE, and technology (which switches every term or half-term, between food, textiles, graphics, product design, systems, and some other things I don't remember because you don't even get to do them all, anyway. :P).
In year 9, it's the same, except minus drama and music, and plus ICT and you choose two of four or five subjects, to have one hour (or extra hour) per week of (I think Art, media studies, drama/performing arts, and something else).
And in year ten, you choose four subjects plus compulsary Welsh, English, Maths, Sciences, Welsh Bacc, and RS.
Then Year eleven is like a continuation of Year ten, but minus RS. :)
Our break-times run the same-ish as yours in primary and secondary (I think we had a little under an hour for lunch in primary, though) (and 45-50 for lunch now). ^^
And we have no time to walk between lessons; that happens during the beginning of the lessons. :P

Well, it takes five minutes to walk right from one end of our school to the other. -_-
ANd if there's a crush one Riding staircase . . . *shrugs*
We have Maths at the top of Riding and our teacher totally doesn't mind if you're late because he knows about Riding staircase and how we've had to walk up three floors.
(Riding is the name of one of our school buildings. It has a ground floor and then three more floors. There are two staircases at opposte ends of the building, and you sort of roatae round in a rectangle when walking up them. It feels scary when you're at the top and you look down the gap in the middle of the rectangle right to the bottom. :P
Riding is one of our biggest buildings . . . bigger than it is Kingston, and there are the smaller building of Welton and Eastdale, plus there's the DT block and Humber. Humber is just for English and the year seven dining room. Languages is in Welton. Maths is in Riding, and so is music, and half the science. Riding also has the main dining room and the hall and the gym. Food rooms are locdated in Kingston and Riding. In Eastdale is IT. In the DT block is, unbelievably, DT. Kingston has the humanities (history, geography, religious studies) and the rest of the science.)
In year seven dance is a full subject, and in years seven and ight, music and drama are full subjects. However, in year nine, you have two thirds of a term for each one of the performing arts.
As far as the subsections of Science go, we learn a unit of (e.g.) physics, then do another unit of it or move onto somethong else and do a unit of that. It's all rather vague which you're doing in years seven-eight, but we start GCSE science in year nine so you know which you're doing. :)

@Star: It takes us about five minutes to get from one end to the other, too. Or longer, depending on people-traffic.
But our corridors are really small (like, we visited another nearby school for a workshop-y thing last year, and their corridors were two or three times the size of ours and we were like O.O), so the 'traffic' is BAD. You can be stood for five minutes along the L-corridor hardly moving at all.
We have a few buildings. Central block is probably the biggest, and it houses sciences/technology/art/performing arts/drama/music/psychology/media studies. There's the tower block which is four floors, Top has humanities (so history, geography, RS, sociology, and stuff), middle is languages, the lower is for IT, and below is G which is mostly sixth form, IT and psychology.
Then following the IT floor there's another set of corridors which had English and maths and a bit of history/misc. Then there's a three room block of maths rooms. And a biology floor, and the sports bit. Plus the gym and hall, and a couple of other not very much used buildings.

In other words, there's some buildings and corridors and rooms, and the ceilings leak and half the radiators don't seem to work in winter. :P

We’re in the middle of the hall, the music has stopped, bubbles float above my head, and Zacharia’s voice is the only thing to break the silence that has fallen upon us all.
“Luciana, there’s a question that has been lingering in my mind for a while, now, and I’ve dreamt about it every night since we’ve got here, dreamt about asking it to you, and seeing your response. Each time so much different to the last… You’re always on my mind, and every moment in that battle I feared losing you more than I feared losing myself, because I’m not complete without you.”
My eyes flutter around, looking for someone’s face to tell me it is okay to want to think, but everyone looks like they’re itching for me to answer. Their eyes are pleading, just like Zacharia’s, and I can feel the pressure in the room pressing down on me, and I’m starting to find it difficult to breathe.
A nervous laugh forces itself from my throat, his question sticking in my mind. It’s sort of painful to hear, especially with what I’m about to say to him. I take a deep breath, and allow the words to spill out.
“I thought I told you that marriage wasn’t my thing…” I look down at him, as he kneels on the floor before me, ring in hand. “Remember that day trip we all took to the beach? We all asked each other random questions and one of the questions we asked was “what is your opinion on marriage?” And, well, I was the only one who said marriage didn’t really appeal to me… I said I couldn’t imagine myself being married…” shaking, I tell Zacharia to stand up, with a faint smile on my face.
I can feel an air of disappointment around me as the others’ realise what’s going on. They all expected me to say yes, and probably cry a little, like most people do when being proposed to, but I’m not most people.
Zacharia’s eyes are filled with hurt; I can see it and feel it. If it was silent, I could probably hear his heart shattering to pieces, because I remember when overhearing him say that if he was ever denied me, his heart would break into a million pieces, and that causes me great pain.
As he stands up properly, he’s about to turn around but my idea is too well-through through, and I grab his hand, stepping in closer to him. I briefly press my lips against his and whisper to him the one word answer I’ve been aching to say since before we even got to Australia: “Yes.” I say, loud enough for only him to hear.
I step back again, and the smile on his face proves to be contagious, because I’m now wearing a smile just as happy as his. In this moment, it’s as though none of the others matter, they’re mumbling things – probably deciding what just happened. I focus on Zacharia, and hear a sigh of relief as he places the ring on my finger, allowing me to admire it for just a few moments before pulling me into a hug.
With his arms around me, I begin to speak, “That day at the beach I didn’t say everything I wanted to, you know? Marriage doesn’t appeal to me, with one exception. I can’t imagine myself being married, unless you, Zacharia Parsons, are the man I’m to marry.”
“The words I love you mean nothing compared to what I feel about you.” He replies, pulling me closer to him so that we are so close we may as well be one. When we kiss I know not only that we’re meant to be, but also that he completes me; he’s the missing piece in the puzzle that is my life.

Well, it's a local thing. Everyone who lives here thinks Hull is crap, unless they're people like my mum. My mum was speaking to this person once and they agreed that everyone who lived here thought it was crap but everyone who'd gone away and lived in other places actually realised it was brilliant. Apparently we have good shopping (?), and we have all these awesome museums that are all free. :)
(Technically I don't live there, but meh, Hull is my nearest city. Fifteen/twenty minutes. I practically live there.)
