161,556 words. That's how long the book is right now. I wanted to have the edit done by tonight, but unfortunately that's not going to happen. I'm up at 6 in the morning to catch a plane to Leeds, so I'm about to hit the sack.
Oh, and for those of you who were pleading with me to keep LSODM as long as possible... you've got your wish. My editor Nick and my agent Michelle both got back to me, suggesting tiny changes here and there, but nothing that would shorten the book.
So the HUGE amount of characters stay in. The MASSIVE battles stay in. The HILARIOUS jokes and LIGHTNING-FAST wit stay in. Verily, it is a good day to be a Minion.
And I've just been chatting to Laura, who calls it the "deepest and darkest one yet". So I've got her all-important seal of approval, which makes me happy.
When it's out, when you've read it, I'll talk more about the writing of it, and the various problems I had to deal with in order to make it work. Everything from Book Two onwards has been leading up to LSODM, after all. Of all the books, this is the one I was certain about from the very beginning, in 2005, but it was one I was the most unsure about when I was actually writing it. So it comes as a relief to know it's actually good.
So... tomorrow I'm in Leeds— the tickets to which are now sold out— and on Saturday I'm signing in Waterstones in York at 11AM— and no tickets needed.
I'm been really quiet lately, on the Blog and on Twitter, and I do apologise for that, but I had to devote all my attention to the book. Now that it's (practically) done, I can get back to normal. Which'll be... er... nice.

I could go on about Bug's Life, but I've said ot al before. Well, except how I now remember all of it really really well and how it's constantly coming up in my thoughts like something I was obsessed with (I was obsessed with it) now I've watched it again, but before I watched it again, when my only memories of it were from when I was little and couldn't comprehend it (I saw the characters moving. I heard the words. But I didn't get any of the why. I didn't get why they hid the queen. I didn't get why the kids when and hid in the tree. I didn't get why the circus guy did any of the setting-on-fire. When I watched it recently, I knew the plot. I knew the why. I knew the story. I knew the themes. I knew EVERYTHING. It was like, wow, I get it now. When I watched it again, I was :O at all there names. For the first time, I understood that Dot's name was also the word for dot as in a red dot on a page, not just a random sound, and I also knew that she was called Dot because she was small and so was just a dot. It was like OMGG. And Flick! Flick as in when you flick something!!!!!! :) OHMYGSOH I GETTTTTTTTT ITTTTTTTTTT.), it only came into my mind ever when I saw the lamp jumping on the I in the Pixar logo. Now, it's like one of my favourite book series except more so. Whenever I meet something I can associate with it, I think of it. It's like Bug's Life was a part of my brain, exceot that part was covered with a curtain, and now by watching it I've unlocked it and it can reach out and connect up to other thoughts instead of staying in the black darkness at the back (except for a hole in the curtain where it grabbed to the Pixar logo from).
OH DAMMIT. *slaps forehead like I kept doing in Leeds whenever I tried to frown* I JUST /DID/ RANT, DIDN'T I??? *facepalm*

Hey hey hey, I was in Science today and it was a revision lesson, and I was on a table with three Directioners and nobody else. And we were all doing this gap-fill sheet (I was spending more time marking out and correcting the numerous grammtical errors than actually doing the sheet, but still. And it also said "Some people wrongly decide to get vaccinated" so I wrote this paragraph about how the sheet had no right to decide whether they were wrong or right and how an informative sheet like this should be unbiased and objective, and then I wrote out a quote from my science textbook that said that people should be given unbiased information to help them make the right decision on vaccinations and pointed out how the sheet was doing the opposite and was basically a disgrace (though I din't say that). Nobody'll ever read it because it's a revison sheet that will never get marked, but I'm rather proud of it, seeing as how I used evidence to back up my (imaginary, coz I'm a sphere) point and all.), and one of the words we had to fill in was 'attack' and it went after the word 'heart', so of course my brain sang "And I'm like OW! It's giving me a heart attack, getting over you-u" and then I said, "I'm astonisdhed none of you Directioner people started singing at the word 'attack'" and they were like what and then they looked down and were like oh yeah.
AND THAT WAS THE DIRECTIONY EVENT OF THE DAY!

@Ieni: If we kill murderers, we are being as bad as the murderers ourselves. Why should so-called 'murderers' get away with murdering and people who enforce the death penalty not? You may say we have a good reason, but murderers may have perfectly good reasons. They may be murdering murderers, which is essentially what we would be doing if we killed them. So when we murder murderers, it's a good thing, and when someone else does it, it's an atrocious crime? In what world is that fair?
Furthermore, you are justifying murder. Therefore, you are saying that murder can be alright. If so, why are you harshening the penalty for it? If you decide murder is more acceptable than you didbefore, why is there a harsher punihsment that there was before?
Also, to murder murderer is unfair. You're not giving them a chance to reform themselves. Murderers should be helped to show the error of their ways.
To continue, there is no point in murdering people to teach them a lesson, as they won't be around to learn that lesson. After you've murdered them, they will not have a brain to think that maybe the crime they committed was a bad idea, so why do it? Who learns from it? What is the point? The only think it does in increase the amount of death and put blood on people's hands. No benefits emerge from it.
Furthermore, by punishing criminals in this way, you are indirectly telling the people of your country to become murderers. If they are wronged enough, they may be compelled to kill people in revenge, and think it is perfectly justified because after all, the rest of the world seem to find it acceptable.
You may say the death penalty is a deterrant, but most people are deterred enough by never having a life after they go into prison (unless they have metal problems and don't realise it fully, and if they do, then the death penalty will more likely than not not penetrate their minds as a consequence either), and if people want to go to prison (maybe to excape someone/thing), then they would most likely do so by committing a more minor crime, because they are most likely sensible enough not to want to kill someone (there are exceptions, because they are exceptions in all people, and these exceptions are the few murderers the world has).

Okay, read this paragraph to the end before judging.
I AM too kind. If someone asks me to swap teams with them in PE, I will, even if I've swapped myself out of the team my friend was in, and then my friend's all abandoned, and then I feel terrible becuase, y'know, I basically just delibrately separated myself from her and she's awesome and she'll think I don't like her or summat AND IT HAPPENED TO ME THE OTHER DAY AND WHEN THE PERSON ASKED TO SWAP TEAMS WITH ME I WAS LIKE HELP WHAT DO I DO BECAUSE I FEEL GUILTY EITHER WAY AND ARGH.
Anyway, my point is, I AM too kind, and because of that, people get hurt, and the main person who repeatedly gets hurt is me, but other people get hurt alsooooooo, and it sucks. :) MAJOR CHARACTER FLAW, RIGHT THERE.
And when I first denied being too kind at you I stared at it and thought about it for a while first, because I AM too kind, but on the other hand, I hadn't been at all too kind with what I'd said, just utterly truthful.
So I denied it, because I hadn't been too kind THEN.
I am too kind, but I'm not being too kind to youuuuuuuuuu. :)

But as for the team stuff, I guess that's one of life's unwinable situations, you can't make everyone happy, so just make everyone as happy as possible.
