161,556 words. That's how long the book is right now. I wanted to have the edit done by tonight, but unfortunately that's not going to happen. I'm up at 6 in the morning to catch a plane to Leeds, so I'm about to hit the sack.
Oh, and for those of you who were pleading with me to keep LSODM as long as possible... you've got your wish. My editor Nick and my agent Michelle both got back to me, suggesting tiny changes here and there, but nothing that would shorten the book.
So the HUGE amount of characters stay in. The MASSIVE battles stay in. The HILARIOUS jokes and LIGHTNING-FAST wit stay in. Verily, it is a good day to be a Minion.
And I've just been chatting to Laura, who calls it the "deepest and darkest one yet". So I've got her all-important seal of approval, which makes me happy.
When it's out, when you've read it, I'll talk more about the writing of it, and the various problems I had to deal with in order to make it work. Everything from Book Two onwards has been leading up to LSODM, after all. Of all the books, this is the one I was certain about from the very beginning, in 2005, but it was one I was the most unsure about when I was actually writing it. So it comes as a relief to know it's actually good.
So... tomorrow I'm in Leeds— the tickets to which are now sold out— and on Saturday I'm signing in Waterstones in York at 11AM— and no tickets needed.
I'm been really quiet lately, on the Blog and on Twitter, and I do apologise for that, but I had to devote all my attention to the book. Now that it's (practically) done, I can get back to normal. Which'll be... er... nice.

We found loads of fossils, made a brilliant Taylor Waterworks (channels of water we make through the sand, innvolves pools and islands. We cpnstantly work to expand it, make the water flow throguh all the channels mostly equally and stop leaks) and waded to a sandbank. :)

On this Hula Hoops packet of the Hula Hoops I just ate, there's this illusion thingy. There's a dot surrounded by smaller dots, and another dot surrounded by bigger dots. The dot surrounded my bigger dots is actually slightly bigger, but unless you measure them you can hardly believe it because the one surrounded by small dots looks larger. It's not a thing where you squint at it for a minute anbd deduce it's larger - it looks immediately larger at first sight, and when you stare at it hard, it still looks larger. Nothing will stop it looking larger.
When my mum was doing a Body Image and Self Esteem talk in this school, she tried out the talk on my first so I could say how it went, and she showed a similar illusions (except the dots were the same size, not the one surround by bigger dots being bigger). And she used the illusion to point out that if you look at loads of stick-thin models in magazines and blah, you'll look fatter to yourself than if you look at normal, unPhotoshopped people.

I think Hunter's sort of in favour of just sitting there and dealing with it when it comes, because he likes being unexpectedly thrown into situations without planning for them. Makes them more exciting.
I read this book once where there was this person who could shape-shift, except he had to decide what shape to stay for eternity after a while, and he chose to be a phoenix. He was beautiful and amazing and magical and made everyone feel better just by being near them, and was basically the best creature ever. Didn't have to worry about anything, because no one preyed on him or anything, and I don't think he even needed food or drink.
But when he got turned back into a human because complicated situation and blah, he said at some point "What do you DO when you're perfect?" (meaning flawless). And that line stuck with me. It's the only reason I remember the book. He was absolutely flawless and amazing, and he was so incredibly insanely BORED. He didn't have anything to do except fly around. He was delighted to be a human again.
And anyway, that was a long analogy I got carried away describing. Hunter isn't flawless, but he is very powerful, and he gets so bored, because like, what do you do when you can do everything? (he can't do everything, that was metaphor and hyperbole).
That's why he's reckless. Because danger is exciting.

We've got a lot cleverer with Taylor Waterworks. Today, we diverted a stream, so the water ran through our waterworks and then back out the the original steam and down to the sea, because the original stream went down to the sea.
Because the water flowed back out again, it meant that it didn't keep overflowing and flooding att as the water built up inside it.
INTELLIGENCE! :)

One of them, right . . . the one who got arested for armed robbery.
He started taking heroin because:
He always used to get cannabis from this person for him and his friends. And one day when he went and asked for cannabis, the person said, sorry, I don't have any cannabis, but I have some of this stuff. And he was like, what is it? And the dealer was like, it's heroin. And the now-prisoner didn't know that much about it but he thought, okay, and bought a load of heroin for him and his friends and they all smoked it and went meh, this is okay.
Next day, he went back, asked for cannabis. The dealer said sorry, I still don't have any in stock, but you know what, I still have heroin if you want any of that.
So he was like, alright, and got a load of heroin again and took it to his friends and blah.
Third day, same thing happened.
On the fourth day, they didn't get any heroin, and they were all feeling really ill and vomiting and blah.
And that was it.
They were all addicted to heroin.
The drug dealer - do you think he had any cannabis? Of course he did. He probably had loads. But he knew what he was doing - he knew our prisoner person was buying cannabis for multiple people, and he knew if he got them addicted to heroin he'd get more money off them. -_-
And I'm going to continue now coz I want to.
So our prisoner person . . . he decided to start selling heroin, somewhere along the line, because he'd lost his job and he needed the money.
However, then it got to the point where he was smoking more than he was selling. The dealers would give him this much heroin and except this much money back, b ut then he'd smoke most of it and wouldn't have the money to give to him. So they started assaulting him and threatening him. And one day he went into a shop with a knife and demanded a load of money so he could give it to the dealers.
He got arrested and spent a few years in prison.
Then he got let out. He got into a relationship and got a job and had a son and thought, this is it, I've turned my life around.
But then his relationship broke and he was feeling all depressed, and he lost his job, and then he got reintroduced to heroin.
And then he started selling it again.
And then it got to the point where he was smoking more than he was selling.
And then the dealers started assaulting him and threatening him.
But this time, it was different, because he had a son, and they were threatening him.
So he did the same thing. Walked into a shop with a knife and demanded money.
And got arrested again.
And is still in prison doing a life sentence.
:'(
The other one, we learn less about him. The other one was better at talking . . .
But he was, like, at the other end of the spectrum. He went with a couple of his friends to beat up someone because they weren't giving them enough money for the drugs they sold him . . . And his friend killed him with a baseball bat, and he and his friends all got jailed for life. His friend who actually killed the person got given a longer number of years before he could be set free, though.
The armed robbery guy, he gets reviewed every three years to find out if he can go out. The murder guy, he has to wait thirteen years before he gets reviewed. He's been in prison ten and a half years so far, so like, two and a half years to go. He's 28. He was eighteen when he went to prison, and seventeen went his friend killed that person.

I'm not sure that I should be roleplaying- or even be here at all- because I'm super distant making posts for my nameless attempt to establish some order, but I am somewhat here, so yeah. I've determined in Blogland I can manage two things at once fairly easily, so right now I can either rp as me (or Niccolo) and write summaries, talk as me (or Niccolo) and write summaries, or talk as me and roleplay as Niccolo. So what should I do?
