161,556 words. That's how long the book is right now. I wanted to have the edit done by tonight, but unfortunately that's not going to happen. I'm up at 6 in the morning to catch a plane to Leeds, so I'm about to hit the sack.
Oh, and for those of you who were pleading with me to keep LSODM as long as possible... you've got your wish. My editor Nick and my agent Michelle both got back to me, suggesting tiny changes here and there, but nothing that would shorten the book.
So the HUGE amount of characters stay in. The MASSIVE battles stay in. The HILARIOUS jokes and LIGHTNING-FAST wit stay in. Verily, it is a good day to be a Minion.
And I've just been chatting to Laura, who calls it the "deepest and darkest one yet". So I've got her all-important seal of approval, which makes me happy.
When it's out, when you've read it, I'll talk more about the writing of it, and the various problems I had to deal with in order to make it work. Everything from Book Two onwards has been leading up to LSODM, after all. Of all the books, this is the one I was certain about from the very beginning, in 2005, but it was one I was the most unsure about when I was actually writing it. So it comes as a relief to know it's actually good.
So... tomorrow I'm in Leeds— the tickets to which are now sold out— and on Saturday I'm signing in Waterstones in York at 11AM— and no tickets needed.
I'm been really quiet lately, on the Blog and on Twitter, and I do apologise for that, but I had to devote all my attention to the book. Now that it's (practically) done, I can get back to normal. Which'll be... er... nice.

Well, if you want to know how my walking and camping and walking went - my feet got set on fire (not literally) and refused to stop burning (I forgot my insoles), I lose my compass, I did every single bit of mapreading coz I could do it easily and I wanted to, and it's been about 30 degrees, and we walked like 16km yesterday and 10km today, and there was this girl in our group who is selfish to extreme levels and made things difficult all the time, and now my back hurts and my shoulders hurt and I have insect bites all over me, and yeah.
And my friend was feeling sick and we had to keep waiting for her, and today when we were halfway through she sat down (we were having a five-minute break) and started crying, and my other friend took her rucksack and carried both that and her own, and we were all O_O because OUR BAGS ARE SO FUCKING HEAVY AND WE WERE DYING UNDER ALL THAT WEIGHT (the hard bit wasn't the walking, the walking was easy. It was walking WITH THE BAGS) AND SHE WAS CARRYING /2/ OF THEM AND LIKE WHAT THE FUCK. And then when we next had a break my friend wo was feeling ill refused to move unless she got given her bag back because it wasn't fair, and my friend was just like no, I'm not giving you your bag back you can have it after lunch. And they were arguing for ten minutes before they compromised and my friend only carried it for a bit. And she kept carrying it at intervals. And then when we were bag-swapping and lying on the ground feeling exhausted (my feet were murdering me, but it was worse on the first day. My bones were getting all disaligned. D: On the second day I put tissue paper it them, but they still hurt from walking a long way so um yeah), and the two girls who aren't especially my friend walked on ahead, and we were like, let them go, they won't get far, and plus they won't know which way to go because of course I was the only one mapreading and they didn't even have a map, haha. But then we got quite worried because we didn't see them for ages, and then we almost caught up with them where they'd waited at a junction not knowing which way to go, but then they gave up and guesstimated and we were so fucking angry because they didn't have a clue where they were going, it was hardly like they'd offered to carry my friend who was feeling ill's bag, and they'd gone THE WRONG WAY. So we stopped, took the five-story houses off our backs (metaphor), and my friend ran after them. And then they came back and were going "We waited for half an hour, we NEED to get back, it isn't our fault" and I was just like, "Well have you tried carrying two bags?!?" (admittedly, I hadn't tried it, but my awesome friend who carried two bags a lot of the way went up in my estime for that and I didn't really think that was possible. My other friend also went up in my estime incidentally, simply because she's so NICE, and yeah. They're awesome. <3).

And then one of the girls who'd gone ahead (the one who was being a pain att) said "We need to stop so I can put my bandage on!" (Her bandage on her wrist, because it had slashes all over it, because she'd been cutting herself) and we were like no no no no no, we CAN'T stop! And then she and her friend met up with their friend who wasn't doing the camping walking walkign thing, and they had a joyous reunion, and me and my friend just stood there in the road feeling so annoyed because we were really, really close to getting back and she could have fucking put her bandage on when she'd had to wait for ten minutes for us. And I just started crying and then my other friend was crying and we just sat there on the grass verge crying and feeling angry. And then they caught up with us and we staggered in, feeling totally rubbsh with our feet being reduced to charcoal.
Oh, my FEEEEEEEEEEET!
On the first day, the pain waqs so bad I picked up these twigs and when we stopped I put them in my shoe to boost my arches. They dug into my feet and hurt there, but it was different pain and it was better than what I had been going through. But then they dug in more and they really hurt (I was fucking walking on fucking pieces of wood), so I took them out, and the pain was okay for a while but then it came backkkkkkkk. D:
I was at the end just dying and dying and barely paying attention to the map coz I didn't have the energy.
It was better on the second day, when I had tissue paper in my shoe. :)
But I liked going to sleep in our tent. I had epic conversations with my friend who I was sharing a tent with, and it was nice, plus it was all comfy and I love my sleeping bag. :)
ALthough I had my jumper on my head coz it was too light. XD
And that was my weekend!
(SERIOUSLY, SO MUCH PAIN. D: DREADING SEPTEMBER, WHEN I HAVE TO DO IT ALL AGAIN. -_-)

In here is RedRays. In this form, it's powder. It's a torture substance made to torture people, but another property of it is that it freezes your body in the state it's in. So you can sit in a chair for months being torture without having to go to the toilet, yay. So it should stop his body falling apart for a bit, but then it will wear off. It will give me a bit more time to get to him. :)
However, it IS very painful. Alice is very good with pain, so I think it'll put him in absolute agony, which is remarkably impressive as usually words cannot come near to describing it. It gets easier to get used to the more you use it, so I'm pretty awesome with it.
Seeing as I'm giving it to you in powder, it would be best to dissolve it in water and drink it.
Don't try any for yourselves.

Actually I've changed my mind I'm not good. I'm really happy :D Dublin won the Leinster hurling final today (which I was at) for the first time in 51 years today. The last time they won it was in 1961. And now they're in the All Ireland semi final. So I'm very happy. I take my GAA seriously.
