LSODM is over 133,000 words right now and I promised my editor I'd have a reasonably finished first draft to him by the end of the week. That means no Twitter and no blogging, and very little internet presence at all. Even a half hour of writing a blog is a half hour of NOT writing the book, and I can't afford to do that right now. When the book is done, when it's finally done, business as usual will be resumed. Until then, this temporary silence continues.

It was a cold, wet night and cars splashed water up as they drove through the dark streets. Most of this water, it seemed, ended up on Steven as he plodded on home. Steven stumbled as he was splashed again, ending up on the ground.
Muttering under his breath, he got up. As he was shaking himself off, he saw a warm-looking house, welcoming him with open arms.
He scurried p the front steps and nocked.
No one answered.
He nocked again.
Again, no one answered.
Disappointed, Steven turned away.
The door creaked open.
Steven turned and sidled in, glancing about as he went.
That night, a scream rang through the town.
Steven was never seen again.

I don't know if this helps, but Alice, the name alone, makes me think Cheshire Cat and the Hatter and all those odd Wonderlandish things, plus blue/yellow, whereas with Clara, I think... Ponies. *frowns* Ponies and... Matt Smith.

But, I guess, being set to a character, those first couple of things which come to mind would be less strong, if present at all. I don't really known if that helps, to be honest. :P

I also like the slight catch in the back of his voice - I don't know why.in Cut Your Hair, I think one of my favourite lines is "each and every day" purely because of the way it sounds - there's a catch in "each", where it kind of scrapes, but not in a bad way. I don't know. It's kind of there in the back of the vocals somewhere in We Dance, too. Maybe.
