World Book Day Yay!

Okay, about to get in the car and drive to Kildare for my event with Alex Barclay, but I was checking my emails and wandered onto the Facebook site and saw this...

I hope Karina Hauge doesn't mind me posting her picture here. I just thought...

... wow...

A signed book to the first Minion who gets Skulduggery tattooed on their FACE!

EDIT

And since posting this I've received one or two messages from young and impressionable Minions who are saving up to do just that...

Don't! It was a JOKE!

Getting a tattoo is a decision that stays with you YOUR ENTIRE LIFE!

The last thing I want is to be in the middle of a signing somewhere and an angry mother hauls her son/daughter up to me and says "Look! Look at my daughter's face!"

I'll nod and smile politely, because I am a polite person, and I will say something along the lines of, "What a lovely young lady she is."

And then the mother will start shaking the poor girl. "She has. A tattoo. Of your character. ON HER FACE."

And I'll peer closer. "Is that what it is? I thought it was a freckle."

"It takes up her ENTIRE face!"

"I thought it was a big freckle. Are you going to sue me now?"

"YES!"

And that's when the ninjas attack.

I may be letting my imagination run a LITTLE bit wild, but you get the idea.

DO NOT GET ME SUED.

She's raised £119.50 in sponsors. O_O

Like WTH. How many people does she KNOW???

I've sponsored her £5. :)

The weather's been crazy today. It's been xontinuously alternating between bright sunshine and blowing a blizzard. Serious. For example, when we started to pack up our stuff at the end of Maths, it was really sunny. When we'd packed up, we stood there whilst Sir told us off and said we were a nightmare. At that point, it was a blizzard outside. But then we walked down to the bottom of the tower, and in that short time the snow had stopped.

Seriously. It was like that all day.

Mary Contrary said...

Hello.

I don't know what I did to my hair this morning, but it's so FLUFFY. ._.

I blame the snow.

Star Inkbright said...

Hello, Seph! Or, not hello, not-here Seph!

I really am not an animal person. I'm scared of most of them, and you know how some people just love cats/horses/dogs/guineau pigs/rabbits/whatevs? I just do not care a fig about any of them. When most people see a picture of an animal they're all like awwwww! I just look at it with the same amount of emotuon as if it had been a chair. Actually, I would probably have more emotion for a chair. I'm not an animal person and definitely not a pet person.

I think I just am uncaring about living beings in general. Words on a page give me more sadness than knowing a friend of mine is suffering. I mean, I would be sad and worried about that, but only words and some films make me cry. I can't just think of something sad, I have to make an effort to be really sad and worried about it. I think I just do not . . . care. At all.

I think I'm just a horrible uncaring person. *nods*

Luciana said...

It's alright, Star. Everyone thinks I'm horrible because I never want to have kids - I find children irritating. Anyone under the age of 11... Ugh. So young, and needy... .-.

Star Inkbright said...

HI TAIA!

Actually, maybe I'm exaggerating. Of course I would be sad and worried if a friend of mine was suffering. But I could shove it out my mind, forget about it, and carry on with my day regardless. Some people can't sleep or do anything if a friend's unhappy. I could. Although sometimes I don't let mysrlf shove it out of my mind, because I want to look ans feel caring. *shrugs*

Star Inkbright said...

Little kids annoy me so much. They just state the obvious in this really annoying fashion.

Mary Contrary said...

Star- Could be worse. Could be me.
I don't even cry in books or films.
Songs, on occasions, can have me crying, but for the most part, I just don't.
When I have a suffering friend, I never know quite how to feel. Things just don't tend to hit me like that. I mean, I worry, but I do really crap at expressing any of it.

Mary Contrary said...

Hiya Star. Hiya, Luci.

Little kids both irritate and fascinate me.
Sure, they state the obvious, and attack everything in sight, but they also have some BRILLIANT ideas.
I listened to an almost-ten-year-old interview/converse one of my favourite drummers, once. Sure, he got confused an awful lot, but there are things there that no older human could ever come up with.

Luciana said...

Hello Taia. :)

Sorry I didn't say hi. I'm just a tad distracted...

Mary Contrary said...

No worries, Luci. :)

What is WRONG with the weather in this country?
It's -3°C, blaring sun, alternating with blizzards like you just walked into an overactive freezer.

... I'd rather just have rain. x3

Star Inkbright said...

:/

I can get really emotional with films and especially books, because their feelings are laid out for you to view so I can enpathesis easily. Real life people hide feelings a lot more, so yeah.

*hugs Taianess* Different people react differently to stuff in different waysness. That's due to not everyone being indentical. And if everyone was indentixal, the world would be so boring. :/

Star Inkbright said...

Ikr, Taia?!?

You look out the window one minute and it's bright sunshine, then five minutes later, BLIZZARD! Today's weather is just so ODD. Even by English standards. :P

Aisling Dubh said...

Omg Star that's exactly what the weather was like here.

Mary Contrary said...

*hugs back* Thanks. :)
Mm-hm. Boring, or chaotic. I mean, can you imagine if everybody on the planet was DEREK? O.O

*nods* I know! I was just sat in Maths firing through algebra at high speed. Every time I looked up, the weather was different. For Wales, it's insane. Usually, concentration of rain is the full extent of weather variation, here. :P

Aisling Dubh said...

Hi guys

Taia if everyone on the planet was Derek we'd all go crazy.
There's only so much of people like Derek that the world can take. The world can't stand his awesomeness.

Aisling Dubh said...

The weather was made that much worse by the fact that the snow REFUSED to stick.
Why couldn't it have stuck?

Luciana said...

Hello Ais!:)

Sorry I'm so distant... Attempting to write Skuttlebuggia... :/

Mary Contrary said...

*laughs* Indeed, Star. xD

Aisling: Our snow stuck, alright.
And then it melted.
And stuck.
And melted...

Aisling Dubh said...

It was stuck in the morning Taia.

But then the sun came out and it melted and it didn't stick after that.

There's supposed to be more snow tonight so hopefully it will stick.*fingers crossed*

Mary Contrary said...

Oh, and Hi Aisling! :P

*tilts head*
I keep hearing that, in places.
It's about time I asked - What IS Skuttlebuggia?

Luciana said...

A story I'm writing.

Aisling Dubh said...

Luci it's fine. Good luck with the writing.

Taia Skuttlebuggia is an amazing story that Luci is writing. She has it on her blog. The one called Skuttlebuggia.

Mary Contrary said...

Ah, awesome! I'll take a look later. :3

For the meantime, I'll be distant, too. Drawing. 'Cause my brain says I have to.

Aisling Dubh said...

Brb dinner

Star Inkbright said...

I was about to say that our snow stuck, but then it melted; however, it got said for me. :P

Sorry for poofing. I went for dinner, then I was doing more French, then me and my sister were reclaiming each other's tights out of each other's drawers and wondering where on earth all our tights WENT to, because they keep ON disappearing and it's like what the hell.

I don't WANT our snow to stick. I want warmness!

Every year, I always really want it to snow. Then when it snows, I'm all YAAAAAAAAAAAY! However, after a day or two, I decide I'm fed up of snow and it's horrible. *nods*

Every year. *rolls eyes*

But I may as well get excited about snow, because the more happy feelings the better, even if ridiculous they may be!

Luciana said...

I just lost loads of Skuttlebuggia...

Star Inkbright said...

D: OH NO.

Mary Contrary said...

*laughs*
The snow here is stuck, currently. Stuck like glue to our science lab ceilings.

I like snow, but not combined with school.
It can make some good photographs, though. :3

Aw, no, Luce! It's awful losing writing. There's no way you can get it back? :/

Star Inkbright said...

I know. Snow + school = cold, wet, miserable. It's freezing, my feet get covered in snow walking to school (it wasn't that bad today, the snow was pretty shallow, but when the snow is up to your ankles or above and you're in your typical Clarks school shoes it's urghhhhh), and it's just generally blergh.

I like sledging, though. And snow is so beautiful when falling. *smiles*

Star Inkbright said...

And the next morning, you have to put your dry feet into your sodden, damp shoes, abd it's just urghhhhhh. D:

Two more main books, but two smaller books as well - TMS and a short stories book due for release next Spring/Summer (apparently).

Aisling Dubh said...

I have a football match tomorrow so I'm not sure if I want snow or not. I've played in the snow before though and it's not THAT bad so I think I do want snow. *nods* yes I want the snow to stick.

Luciana said...

Ieni says hi, and sorry that she can't get on. The laptop she's on won't load the blog, or something.

Aisling Dubh said...

Hopefully the short stories will be around the same time as TMS but in 2014.

Aisling Dubh said...

Say hi back to her Luci.

Alice (Or Tyler to some) said...

WELL.. really it is 3 more books (If u include to novella)

Star Inkbright said...

Alice (Or Tyler to some) said...

Oh and, Hiya Leni

Aisling Dubh said...

Yes but the novella isn't connected to the whole story. I think.
But yes it is sort of 3 books.and only 17 days until TMS.
*checks to make sure I'm right this time* *nods* yes 17 days.

Mary Contrary said...

I don't really enjoy sledging.
The most I do in snow is trek out with a camera and no coat (coats are noisy. I've learned to deal without them:P), and search somewhat dreamily for potential photograph subjects.
Otherwise I just sit in the snow and just, like, watch it. :P

Oh, heck. Lacrosse will be awful in snow. My hands will probably freeze to the stick. xD

Luciana said...

She says, if it was really that scared it'd do what it's told and work right.

Aisling Dubh said...

I love sledging. But in my whole life there's only been enough snow ONCE for it ONCE.

Well the snow lasted a long time but I mean one year. One winter.

Luciana said...

But I had't ACTUALLY noticed this error before you pointed it out. O_O

I'm ashamed of myself. *sits in corner*

*checks in Plague* YEAH, IT'S E-STRING.

It surprises me, that error, because Gone seems, to me, incredibly well-researched and so on. O_O

Well, violins have E-strings, double basses have E-strings . . . *shrugs*

I wonder how thick he thought this E-string was. An E-string on a double bass is massively thick, the thickest string - I suppose, judging from what he was using it for, he must have thought it was the thinnest string like on a violin. It was meant to be a substitute for thin wire, right?

Aisling Dubh said...

What strings does a cello have then Star?
I know nothing about cellos.

Bye Leni who's not actually here.

Mary Contrary said...

*tilts head*
If violins are anything like guitars, then I'd say there are two E-strings.
But, I don't know, so... :P

Star Inkbright said...

"When I set out from the boy's attic window, my head was so full of competing plans and complex strategems that I didn't look where I was going and flew straight into a chimney.
Sonething symbolic in that. It's what fake freedom does for you."

HI FLAME! :)

Mary Contrary said...

Awh, *waves a 'Bye' to a not-at-all-present-Ieni*

Okay, Luci.

Aisling Dubh said...

There's only one E string on a violin. I play the fiddle eh which is the same instrument but its played differently. I think that's the difference anyway.

Aisling Dubh said...

*not supposed to be an eh there it just randomly appeared out of thin air.

Star Inkbright said...

Cellos have, from thinnest to thickest, an A-string, a D-string, a G-string and a C-string.

Violins have, from thinnest to thickest, an E-string, an A-string, a D-string and a G-string.

Guitars have six strings, I'm pretty certain. My knowledge of guitars is small. I play the cello and I used to play the violin for a bit, so I'm more familar with them. :)

Mary Contrary said...

Ah. YEah, I forgot. They only have four strings, right?
I began learning the violin, many a year ago. Never even got as far as being allowed to use the bow. :P

I quit every instrument I ever learned to play, actually. I re-taught myself to play guitar, though. Still do that, when time allows. :3

Aisling Dubh said...

Yep so violins are the same as fiddles exept for the way they're played then.

Mary Contrary said...

*nods* Guitars have six strings.
Except for Bass guitars. I think they only have four...

Star Inkbright said...

"The imp drifted over some gardens, soaring on an updraught. I followed, labouring somewhat on my stubby wings. As I went I considored the situation carefully. The safest and most sensble thing to do was to ignore the envelopes he was carrying and concentrate on making friends with him instead. I could, for instance, adopt the semblance of another messenger imp and start up a conversation, perhaps winning his confidence during the course of serveral 'chance' meetings. If I were patient, friendly and casual enough, he would no doubt eventually spill some beans . . .
Or I could just beat him up instead. This was a quicker and more direct approach and all in all I favoured it."

Fiddle is a different way of playing the same instrument, as I understood it... Viola is definitely different though. It's a bit lower...not as low as cello or bass though.

Star Inkbright said...

HI BRAVE!

Alice (Or Tyler to some) said...

Nope Aisling, it's not just you, I've noticed but said nothing cos you no...

Star Inkbright said...

No, a viola is a different instrument to a violin. It has the same strings as a cello, and is slightly bigger than a violin.

A fiddle and a violin are the same instrument . . .

Aisling Dubh said...

Ah I think I get it now.

Alice (Or Tyler to some) said...

...BUT the fiddle is tuned in higher than the violin because
Fiddle= They play lively songs so they are tuned high so they can give that nice song off of it

Violin= It is tuned lower so that when they play classical music, they wont be all loud and noisy but soft and calming

Star Inkbright said...

But violins are all high and screechy!

. . . Then again, I only say that coz I'm a cello. :P

*nods at Tyler* Ah, that makes sense. :)

They have a higher, thinner sound than cellos, which are more brown and comfortable. :P

Ça ne va pas bien? (It's not going good)
Si, ça va bien. (Yes, it is going good)

Si vous voulez = if you want.

It can be either!

I know a few random Welsh words, because my dad . . .

And a few random Swiss-German words, coz we used to live in Switzerland, and a few random Dutch words, coz we used to live in Holland, and I can't remember either place but my parents can and I pick stuff (like the songs I used to sing in playgroup) up from them . . .

*hums the ones that begins with the Swiss-German equivilant for 'It's snowing'*

Mary Contrary said...

Awesome, Star!

Bye, Ieni!

I dread to think how I did in my last Welsh exam. Let alone the C/A.
I don't even remember how to say "He was". In the exam, I wrote a phrase which literally translates to
"I went to homework. I am tired."

Fortunately, I do better in German. ;)

Mary Contrary said...

OH.
I think the Welsh for "It's snowing" is "Roedd yn bwrw eira". :D

Aw, Bye Aisling!"

Star Inkbright said...

Oh, I just know yes as oui . . . Hi Fabi!

But I know si as if because si on veux etre. And yes, the etre needs an accent, but the only accent I know how to do on the laptop is this one: áéíóú, and that's only coz Scáth told me how to. :P

FOURS, AISLING! :(

Star Inkbright said...

Well, I have no clue how to spell it but it begins with a word pronouced like esh (it's es, pronouced ez, in German, I know), and the second word is like snay-a-la . . .

The first part is probably written sneigh.

Or it could be like "es sneigh (something) ist" . . .

I only know it from my mum singing it, either correctly or incorrectly. :P

Es sneighe ist? O_O

*mystification*

This is the futhest I've got to decoding the first line in years, btw.

I can hum it fine, I just don't know the words at all. :)

I know the Greek song about trains better. Chucka chucka chucka choo, choo . . . :)

Anonymous said...

Oui is usually yes, but if you were using yes to argue with no, it would be si.

And hi! Really distant, though.

Bye Ais and Ieni!

Star Inkbright said...

*nods* I shall bear that in mind! :)

Luciana said...

¡Hola, mis amigas!

Mary Contrary said...

Well, I know the German for "It's snowing" is "Es Schneit ist." so the Swiss-German wouldn't be far off, I'd assume. :)

Hiya, Fabi!

Mary Contrary said...

Ah, one second thought, I don't think there's an "ist" at the end, in German. ^^

I do speak German considerably better than Welsh. Barely as good as English, though. xD

Hi Lucy, Taia.

Star Inkbright said...

OHHHHHHHHHHHHH YES. :)

I was looking for NIN vids on the person's channel, and I found a GREAT DWTS vid . . . And I so needed one too! :)

That was unexpected, awesome, and unexpectedly awesome. :)

. . . Because the one I have is great. Awesome. Wunderbar. ABER, it's really quiet. I have to egt up, switch the volume up at DWTS, then swicth it down again at Violence Fetish, except I usually switch it down too quiet and have to switch it up again . . .

So my current vid is better than anything video-wise, but the quietness is dead annoying. -_- So I may go chnage it. :)

Star Inkbright said...

'Es Schneit ist' makes sense though, to me. :/

But then, you know more German than me. :)

Mary Contrary said...

Hm, I think it's because "Es Schneit" literally means "It snows" or something. :)
That's how I remember it, at least.
Also, as in "Es Regnet" rather than "Es Regnet ist", for "It's raining". :3

Star Inkbright said...

*frowns* My old vid is VERY good, though . . . Quietness or no. *frowns*

You do not have to watch the link at all. Do not feel you have to. But if you do, the bridge's a bit brutal, warnings.

*nods slowly*

That makes sense . . .

GET UP, COME ON GET DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS! *dances*

Ugh, must go, STUFF.

Bye all!

Mary Contrary said...

Sounds good, Star. :3

Awh, Bye Fabi! *waves*

Star Inkbright said...

:( FOURS, FABI!

Yes, it's es schneit, Stario remembers now . . . *frowns*

We learnt this a whole year ago, how d'you expect me to remember? :P

Star Inkbright said...

*Starrio

Mary Contrary said...

*laughs*
I learned it two years ago, but y'know. :P
German sticks in my brain pretty well. Again, like glue to our science lab ceilings.

Star Inkbright said...

*frowns*

When you're trying to end an arguement about religion, is beginning with "jesus fucking christ people" REALLY the best way to go about it?

Mary Contrary said...

*raises an eyebrow*

I'd say not, Star.
... Why? :P

Star Inkbright said...

My memory is incredibly odd. In some ways, it's terrible, but in other ways it's good . . .

How the rest of my French class can't remember which tense is which when we got TAUGHT all that is utterly beyond me. O_O

How people can not remember which tense is which . . . I actually literally do not understand it. I'm not trying to be mean to them, I just do not get their memories at all. :P

ANd how on EARTH does my sister remember insignificant conversations from ages ago that she wasn't even participating in? How does she remember what I said and my mum said when we don't? '~'

Star Inkbright said...

At the beginning of the Terrible Lie vid on my playlist, the person who made the vid has paused and annotated it to say:

"jesus fucking christ people ENOUGH! im sick of the bickering over who is right and who is wrong about religion! just listen to what trent has to say. anymore comments about god or atheism will be deleted"

Mary Contrary said...

*nods*
I know what you mean. :)
It REALLY irritates me when people in my German class pronounce "weil" like "veel". We've been through that SO MANY TIMES.

*tilts head*
That DOES sound pretty silly, Star.
I suppose it's just being used as a figure of speech, but even so...

Star Inkbright said...

Ah, stupid YouTubians. :)

They pronouce weil like veel?

Nobody in my class that I know of does that. I suppose they all remember the Weil Monster we learn the word 'weil' through. Ah, I spent ages drawing the Weil Monster on my whiteboard. *smiles*

Then again, it was 'that I know of'.

How people can not remember this stuff is utterly beyond my comprehension. On the other hand, I'm sure people find the things I don't remember utterly unbelievable . . . *shrugs*

Mary Contrary said...

*nods, again*
We never had a "Weil Monster".
We had a "Mini-Monster", though I don't recall that he actually had any purpose. xD

I forget things pretty easily, but pronunciation isn't generally one of them. I like my vocabulary, so naturally, I like to use it right. :3

Yay picture of Discord!

Luciana said...

Sorry I disappeared.

I'm in an awful mood, and it's only getting worse. .-.

I'm going to go to bed, I think. Night guys.

You're all wonderful, never forget that. <3

Unknown said...

Bye Luciana!

You're wonderful too.

Star Inkbright said...

:( Fours, Scáth . . . I really hope your mood imporoves soon. ://

You're as wonderful/more wonderful than we are, remember. :)

Msd. :(

Star Inkbright said...

Oh, the Weil Monster, the vile monster . . . *shrugs*

I just remember stuff like that. (?)

Don't ask me how or why.

I disobey the rules of the English language quite often, but incorrect grammar irritates me. Place me where you will on the scale of whateverness. :)

Star Inkbright said...

'stuff like that' being tenses and words and stuff . . . Sorry, should have made that more clear. :)

I dedicate this page to lots of stuff.

First the trivial stuff. I dedicate to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Fairly Oddparents, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Phineas and Ferb, and Star Trek: TOS, because they are all good shows. I also dedicate to chocolate covered orange peels. Delicious.

Now for the more serious stuff.

I dedicate this page to my great-grandmother, who passed away yesterday morning. She was mostly deaf, and had bad eyesight, so we didn't communicate much, but I loved her. She was 101 years old, and would have been 102 in June.

Star Inkbright said...

*reclaims previous profile picture*

Ah, that's better. :)

Star Inkbright said...

:( Poor your great-grandmother. *hugs*

Mary Contrary said...

Incorrect grammar irritates me to infinity. In English, I spend at least half of every lesson correcting my friends' spelling, punctuation, and grammar. And that of the textbooks, too.

Mary Contrary said...

Your Great-Grandmother? Awh. *hugs, and offers a cookie* :c
