50267 words written... and Valkyrie and Skulduggery are barely in it.
This doesn't mean, of course, that they won't be taking their usual starring roles in Book 8. Of course they will. But I've had to approach this one in a slightly different way than normal.
Because this book is about, essentially, total war, I've had to think long and hard about how the different sides would fight— such as what tactics they would use in both the short and long term. It means I can't chop and change sequences like I usually would. If they're written, then they've been written for a very specific reason, and I can't mess about with that. So I figured the best way to write about these military actions is to write them FIRST. Write the skirmishes and the battles and the politics and the arguments, and get it all down on the page. Then, once I have the military aspect taken care of, I go back and write my usual Skul & Val stuff around and on top of it all.
It's an interesting way of working, to willingly ignore your main characters for large chunks of writing time. I sincerely hope it works...
Oh, and sometime in February I shall announce the title. I've had this title in mind for YEARS. Some of the early alternatives were:

Skulduggery Pleasant: It's War, Baby.

Skulduggery Pleasant: People Gonna Die.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Readers Gonna Cry.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Horace.
And amazingly, the actual title is better than ANY of those! I know, right?

I flip over my pillow to the cold side, hoping to catch at least an hour of sleep before I have to send my friends off to their possible deaths. This war could never be worth as much as any one of my friends, however we need this war. We need Skuttlebuggia. We need a place of harmony and peace, and you can’t get peace without war.
I lay awake, waiting for my phone to beep that obnoxious tone to tell me it’s time for me to get up, time for us to strike. All I can think of is the deaths there may be, of how many friends I could lose. Names of friends roll through my mind, like a film, Sparky, Lynxia, Ellie, Cassidy… Memories could soon be all I have of those I hold dearest. I could lose everything…
“Hey Jordan,” I jump out of my bed, grabbing the flip-knife from under my pillow, ready to attack, only to realise that the man who’s is speaking to me is my best friend and the only person I can always trust. Zacharia. I should have recognised him from his cute accent, the one that is unique to him and him alone.
“You’re the only one that still uses my given name, you know…” I slowly put away my knife, returning it to its place under my pillow. I turn to him, hoping that I can hold back the tears whilst he’s around; he’s the only person I can have real feelings around. Most other people see me to be a bit of a sociopath, at least in battle.
“Because I’m the only one that really knows you,” he kisses my forehead and pulls me into a hug. I rest my head against his shoulder and, for once, feel safe. “You’re going to have to lead this battle in a few hours, so I thought I’d come and check you were okay. I can’t sleep without knowing you’re alright…” I can feel him smiling and his smile is infectious; I can’t help but smile too, despite everything.
He releases me from the hug and takes my hand, leading me to my bed. I frown at him and am about to speak when he kisses me, once, on the lips. “You’ll need your sleep. I’ll stay here if you want me to, okay? I don’t want to lose you, so you’ll need to be ready for anything.”
“What about you?” I ask, knowing this thought had not once crossed his mind. He’s always been the most selfless person I’ve ever known. “How about you stay here tonight? We’re going to have to leave very soon, anyway…” I smile.
“If my last moments of peace are spent with you, then I don’t care if I die tomorrow.”
I want to say it’s possible, but I know that’d kill me. It’d be accepting the possibility of losing my best friend and love, and I am not prepared to do that. I climb back into bed and allow him to climb in next to me. His warmth rids all thoughts of loneliness from my mind and soon, I find myself to have drifted off to sleep in his arms, the only place where I am safe.

I thought of it coz it was irritating me how I could prove myself right but only in diagran, not words. How could I point out that there was a blank space between every multiple of two, or that odd add even was odd because:

You have to do English Maths Science RS PE IT.
Then you have three pathways. Green Pathway you pick an Applied Academic course (worth two GCSEs) and you go on a collage course. I think. Not too knowledgeable about Green or Yellow.
Then for Yellow you pick two GCSE options and an Appiled option. I think.
Then for Blue you can pick two GCSE options (they recommend a humanity and a language) and an Applied Academic thingymadooda, OR four GCSE options, they recommend one humanity and one language.
Then for Red you have four GCSE options, they recommend a humanity and a language.

Yeah, but the one thing I hate about my school is the 1st and 2nd years :L they are all midgits that believe they are above society and when I say midgits - my 2yr old little cousin is nearly the same size as some of them . And its not because my little cousins tall or anything :) and because in scotland specifically our culture if you step out of line, someone either pushes you (its not hard) or punches you in the face. For example -
I was standing at the vending machines, waiting to get a samich as you do and a 3ft dwarf storms up, tries to push his way to the front and infront of me, so when I pushed him away (i wanst having a good day) he swore at me and tried to push me back, obviously i didnt move and yeah from behind me my brothers friend tapped on his shoulder and punched him. My head teacher didnt even look twice because well thats the rules of our highschool (its seems harsh but it really isnt)

We were a big primary. Half the class didn't even live in our village. Coz our school had five outstandings in a row, meaning they were all "oh we're so great." :/
We're also a big village.

If someone punched someone in the face in thr dinner queue in our school, they'd probably be excluded or at least get a straight S4 . . .
