This will be trés confuzzling, but (btw, but is 'mais'):
The present tense in French is
Je (verb)
As in I (verb)
The verb could be anything. Remember, verbs are doing words. Run, walk, talk.
Je regarde (I watch), je trouve (I find), je mange (I eat).
Then the past tense is I have (verb)
Have is ai. But the French don't like a vowel being next to a vowel in a sentence. Like we have a. A dog, a cat. But when we say ant we say an ant because a ant sounds odd.
So, j'ai is I have.
Verbs in the past tense have an accent on the end.
J'ai regardé (I watched), j'ai trouvé (I found), j'ai mangé (I ate).
And the future tense is . . . well, there are two future tenses.
But je regarderai is I will watch, je trouverai is I will find, and je mangerai is I will eat.
