How are we all?
Are we all nervous? Terrified, even? Are we all dreading December 21st, the last day on Earth as predicted by the Mayans? Although, as Jon Stewart pointed out on The Daily Show, the Mayans haven't exactly got the best track record as far as predicting the end of civilisations go... to wit, the Mayans...
But I digress.
So how will you be spending the last day on Earth? Will you be surrounded by loved ones? Will you be sobbing into a tub of ice cream? Will you, in fact, forget all about the end of the world because you still haven't got your Christmas shopping done?
Or will you be reading a very special end-of-the-world short story as posted on this very Blog- a short story that will ONLY be available on the 21st and 22nd before being taken down- in which Skulduggery and Valkyrie track down the cause of the world's destruction and do their very best to avert it? A short story called "The Button"?
Hmm? Is THAT what you'll be doing?

I am going to dedicate to The Dark Knight. For those who do not know, it is a Batman movie and we've been watching it in English to say whether it should be a 12 certificate or if it is too violent.
It IS a good movie. WATCH IT!
Now I'm gonna go all depressing and say what upset me. Yep, typical me. :P
The last part we watched was very traumatic. Made me cry. And I was all traumatised for about fifteen minutes afterwards. My next lesson, science, was so ordinary and routine it felt surreal. I didn't feel I really connected. Everybody else was being ordinary and talking about the,Chtistmas decorations, Sir was being ordinary and telling us to write these questions down, and me? I was staring at the table with tears in my eyes, thinking about The Dark Knight. WHICH IS AN EXCELLANT POINT TO MAKE IN MY DEBATE.
But seriously. Some people were saying about The Dark Knight not being scary at all. Stupid people with no empathy. It ISN'T scary, it's bloody UPSETTING. There is one thing I could talk about, but I'm not going to. Would be a major spoiler. So I'll talk about the boats.
In it, there was a boat full of criminals being taken to prison, and a little way off there was a ferry full of ordinary people. They both discovered detonaters on their boats. The Joker told them that the prisoners had the detonater to blow up the ferry, and vice versa. If the prisoners blew up the ferry, the prisoners would live, and if the ferry blew up the prisoners, THEY would live. If anyone tried to leave their boats, they would be killed. If nobody detonated by midnight, both boats would be blown up by the Joker. So they either had to kill a boatful of people or die, and if they didn't blow up the other boat quick enough, they'd be killed.
I'm going to speak more about the ferry here. Because that was the most shocking.
They started arguing immediately, as people do. Then they decided to have a vote. To write down on a scrap of paper whether they wanted to be killers or to live. Ordinary people. Parents. Buisnesspeople. Security guards.
GOD, THERE WERE KIDS ON THE FERRY. KIDS VOTING ON A BIT OF PAPER TO KILL A BOATFUL OF PEOPLE. IF THEY DIE, THEY . . . THEY DIE. THEY'RE KIDS WITH THEIR WHOLE LIFE AHEAD OF THEM, AND THEY DIE. AND IF THEY BLOW UP THE OTHER BOAT AND LIVE? THEY'RE KILLERS! THEY HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THEY VOTED FOR OR AT LEAST DIDN'T STOP PEOPLE KILLING A BIG BOATFUL OF PEOPLE. EITHER WAY, THEIR LIVES - RUINED.
I'M SORRY, BUT THAT IS SICK AND TWISTED AND HORRIBLE. The Joker was turning all these people, about 500 on the ferry and however many on the criminal ship, into killers. He's either blowing them up, which is incredibly sad, or forcing them to blow someone else up, which is sadder.
I won't say the outcome. Would spoil it.
AND DON'T TRY TELLING ME IT'S A MOVIE AND ISN'T REAL. BECAUSE IT EASILY COULD BE REAL. MAN COULD BE CRAZY AND START DOING THINGS LIKE THESE. HE'S HAVE A DIFFERENT NAME, BE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT, BUT HE COULD BE SIMILAR.

The scary thing was that the Joker had a point with his whole talking about chaos. I understand why he does what he does. A few adjustments and he could be the misunderstood hero. He's showing the logical planners, the rulers of the city, that they have no control. That their plans can be so easily torn to pieces. How futile their hope of order and control really is He points out that when the good guys plan to kill a load of people (war or whatever), nobody panics, they're all calm, because it's part of the plan, but that when he says he'll kill one person, they all panic and flap around because it's unplanned for.
He's right. As soon as he says, say, "I'll blow up a hospital," it's complete panic. And nobody is trying to stop him. They're trying to get everyone out of the hositals; they've trying to save lives. But nobody is STOPPING him. They can't. They're too busy rushing about evacuating. And they're unwilling doing what the Joker wants, i.e. panicking.

They have no control, really. They have plans and order and rules, but when the Joker pops up, it all evaporates, crumbles into dust. And the Joker? The Joker DOESN'T plan. He does things randomly, sees how chance play out. The same for Two-Face. Random chance. And yet? And yet they win. Easily, they win. It is so, so hard to create order and rules. The chaos of the Joker, one man, against the rules and order of thousands in the city, and the chaos comes out on top. The Joker wins practically all the time, and in the end, he's better off.
That's scary. It says to me that maybe the Joker is right.
But it also says, you always have to work hardest for the things that are best. Fact of life.
And we cannot allow chaos to decend on our world. Maybe chaos is fun. But when you're shot and you die and nobody sees anything bad about it, nobody is convicted, and everybody does the same thing, is that fun? When someone chaotic realeses nuclear bombs on the world, is that fun?
In Gone, they try to install order and fail miserably. But they keep trying. Because they have to. We NEED order. Because we're human, and we have free minds. We need to be told what is good to do and bad to do. We have some instincts, yes, but instincts don't stop people killing. We're not, as a species, vegetarians, so our instincts let us kill. We need to, for food. Or we did in the cavemen days. Whatever.
So if we aren't taught that killing is wrong, we'll kill. And humans are a powerful, ruthless species. If we have no order, and no rules, we'll kill everything.
Howevet futile it may seem, we have to keep striving. Or bye-bye world. We have an okay world. It is bad, but there's good in it. The blog is good. :) We want the good, don't we? Chaos can be fun. But you can find happiness without blowing up hospitals.
The Joker as a person isn't real except in imagination. But the Joker can symbolise chaos, and that is very real.
We cannot allow the Joker to win.
I just love my dramatic ending on that. First time I've ever given a good ending. :P
That ded kinda went off track. But I can say it was a symbol if chaos. Y'know, coz chaos takes things of track. I can say I was putting layers of meaning into it.

I think Dark Knight sounds really upsetting. The ferry/prisoner boat thing sounds really upsetting, sick and twisted. I agree with Star - kids? Why would you have KIDS voting to blow people up? They would become murderers.

on the twenty first of december the earth will enter a photonic belt? i think that's what it was. which basically means the earth is supposed to black out for a few days. electricity isn't expected to work it and only happens once every x amount of years.

I just went looking for my favourite Land of Confusion lyrics video, and it's my favourite because on the instrumental bits it has Turtwig playing the drums, and the first sentence it says on the information below is "I have disabled commenting because people wouldn't stop bitching about the Turtwig." WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE??? THE TURTWIG IS COOL!!!
