A Birthday Party Around The World

A little post here, just to share the oddness that is my life.

Everyone has birthdays. These birthdays are celebrated. Sometimes there are parties. These things happen. These things are normal.

Some other people have birthdays that are celebrated in their absence, halfway around the world, by people they have never actually met. These things are definitely not normal. But these things happen to me.

My Minions, for your amusement, I provide for you a select few photos taken at the party organised by regular Minion commenter and general online-stalker, Valkyrie V Cain.

Billy-Ray Sanguine (in a lovely checked shirt tied off at the midriff... um...) and a seriously disturbed looking Tanith.

Melancholia, looking AWESOME.

Solomon Wreath, being his/her generally aloof self.

Kitana, kicking the hell out of poor Valkyrie...

... and looking pretty smug about it, too.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you one Nefarian Serpine, he/she of the red right hand...

... and poor China Sorrows, who has no idea what is about to happen.

Argeddion. Looking VERY pleased with himself.

You may be forgiven for wondering who is this long-haired person who is trying to woo Valkyrie, but then you will realise- it's Caelan. OBVIOUSLY.

A wonderful time had by all...

... and even I attended! (Sort of.)

And two photos to end things off. One... just because I think her facial expression is hilarious...

And the final photo of Valkyrie V Cain herself. All these photos have made me grin so much I think I've broken my face. Thank you Valkyrie, and thanks to all your (admittedly insane) friends...!

Yes. It is Luciana. *nods*

It's the only logical explanation for the dedication at the top of this page, I think. It has my name all over it, really. And it's terrible. :P

Omg, today in Guidance (registation) we were doing about careers. And our teacher asked us if anyone was planning on moving somewhere when we were older and people were like
America, New York, America.
Me: IRELAND!

Yay! Luciana! Aha, yeah, no one writes as amazing dedications as you do :)

Sorry for vanishing!

My book order was annoying me... So I had to reorganize them. :3

Star Inkbright said...

Look what I just found. No, it isn't amazingly interesting. But it's, uh, slightly interesting:

Britain is a relatively densely populated country: it is more than twice as densely populated as France (106 people per sq.km), nine times as densely populated as the USA (27 people per sq.km) and 100 times as densely populated as Australia (2 people per sq.km).

Britain ranks 18th in the world in terms of population size.

The population is very unequally distributed over the four parts of the UK:
England more or less constantly makes up 84% of the total population, Wales around 5%, Scotland roughly 8.5 %, and Northern Ireland (since 1921) less than 3%

Star Inkbright said...

Ne'mind. You back now. :)

Star Inkbright said...

BRITAIN IS SO CROWDED. :/

Luciana said...

When you say things like "Ne' mind," I can't help but want to speak in a broad Yorkshire accent...

I've not for a very Yorkshire accent, apparently...

It's weird. :P

Star Inkbright said...

England is by far the most densely populated part of the UK.

In 2003, it had a population density of 383 people per sq km compared with Wales (142), Northern Ireland (125) and Scotland (65). London had a far higher population density than any of the English regions, with 4,700 people living in each square kilometre on average.

England's population density is more than treble the European average of 117 people per sq km.

England is also one of the most densely populated countries in the world

Ieni Strider (Ieni The Ninja Aeroplane, Eater of Fabi's armses) said...

Wow...that's pretty...wow.
Sorry, I was just watching the Hobbit trailer (again). Also, I may have to disappear again with no warning, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to come back on this evening :)

I don't see why people would want to move to England...our weather is crap.

Star Inkbright said...

I also say n'idea. Which sounds like it should be spelt Nye deer. :P

I don't sound incredibly incredibly Yorkshirian, actually. Not accent-wise. I don't say fern for phone or mer for mate or anythink. Although I always sound more Yorkshire aloud than I do in my head.

Luciana said...

"'Eyyup, na then, thee."

The most Yorkshire phrase there is. :P

Star Inkbright said...

I like our weather. :)

I like the days we have when it's cold but not freezing. They feel all ENGLANDY. And I like the snow for a few days, y'know, before I get bored of it . . . And I love watching the snow fall. Hot weather is nice, but too hot is unbearable. Discovered that this summer when Northern France had that heatwave and we were unexpectedly experiencing temperatures of 38 degrees Celsius for a few days . . . ARGH. So long as the summers aren't horrible, I can deal with our not-baking weather. :) Plus I like the rain so long as it isn't cold. And I love the wind.

So I like our weather . . .

Unknown said...

Hey guys

Star Inkbright said...

*raises eyebrow, which I've recently doscovered I can kind of sort of maybe do slightly* Thee? Not 'ere. Oh and I often say 'ere and 'er and stuff when they're on the end of sentences . . .

My dad says ye for you now and then. "Or I will tickle ye!" is a phrase of 'is. (See that 'is I remembered to put in for you?) However, that doesn't count, coz my dad's from Liverpool . . . Apparently he used to have a strong Liverpool accent but what with moving all them other places, it's . . . got a bit diluted . . .

I have quite a lot of extended family with Liverpool accents.

Star Inkbright said...

HI SEV!!!!!!!

Star Inkbright said...

I like being Yorkshirian. :)

*scowls* Don't like being *insert name of village where I live*ian though.

Unknown said...

I'm re-reading KOTW, and I just noticed that Christophe Nocturnal got mentioned in The Lost Art of World Domination.

Star Inkbright said...

I like living in a village though. We lived in a large town before we moved here and when we went back to visit I couldn't fanthom the oddness of our old house being just a few streets away from the shops. It would have been a ten minute walk into the town centre rather than a twenty-minute drive. That, to me, is very odd. Plus you wouldn't have to go away from being surronded by buildings then come back into being surrounded by buildings to get there. That is the epitome of oddness. Plus I like how our village in a clump of houses amoungst an expanse of fields. I like the view of the quarry when you go down our road and to the right, and I like how it's just to the left then turn off to the right then left a bit hlater then straight on for a while before you're out of the other end of the village again. I like how we have one street of shops (well maybe one and a bit)and that's it. I like how I know my way round half the village. I like how it's fairly quietish. I do miss our old house and pur old town. Our old house and street and town were epica. But I like it here too. :)

I was on my computer, when I heard the sound of a lawnmower come from inside the house. At first I thought it was a lawnmower, but then my brother asked what that sound was, so I left the room and went to the kitchen where a plug was burning.
It was sort of sparking, and every time it did there was a loud vacuuming sound. which is the sound I meant to say earlier instead of lawnmower.
My brother and his friend got scared, and watched as I reached for the plug, really scared that I'd get electricuted.
Then Just as my hand reach it, the BIGGEST burst of fire vacuum-sounded it's way out.
I gave up.
It didn't happen again

HI ZAF!

*frowns* My sister said Artemis Fowl and the Last Guardian had a good ending. I disagree. In fact, I completely and utterly disagree. Plus my AF fanfic I make up in my head has totally and utterly collapsed on itself. I hate having nothing to make up in my head. I knew that reading that book would be like this, goddammit. And I read it anyway. IDIOT. Don't worry, I'll come around to it . . . It just might take a while.

Anyway. I'LL BE READING SKULDUGGERY NOW! WOO-OO! That's comforting.

*frowns* . . . Since when did I come to like rereading more than reading things for the first time???

Oh well. SINCE NOW, I adore rereading.

Zanida Laufeydottir Queen of Asgard (Zafira Kerias) said...

I know why Kes but im not gonna argue

Omg, so in history we were learning about the Irish Potato Famine. I cannt believe the Irish were PEASANTS and how horrible they lived. I mean, only potatoes for food. But like...I cant imagine. I cant picture Derek a peasant. I couldnt and my tracher used a good Dublin accent whennshe mimicked an Irish immigrant crossing to America

Star Inkbright said...

I didn't cry. But then, I HAD googled 'does artemis fowl die' a few months earlier and got spoilered on the ending because I was TERRIFIED that he would do and if he DID, my fanfic would go boom. Of course, it's just gone boom anyway. WHAT A WASTE OF A SPOILER. But seriously, I felt so happy after spoilering myself. It was probably worth it for saving myself all those moments of anxiousness. :)

My sister said AF8 wa'n't as good as the others and I'm inclined to agree; but then, I've always said that AF got better with every reread. Maybe I just need to read the last book five more times . . .

Anonymous said...

*laughs* Irish Potato Famine? Sorry, that sounds funny. I have never heard of this...Potato Famine.

Unknown said...

The first time I read Last Guardian I was half-way through and I saw on the cover "Final installment" and I was just sitting there going "NOOOOOO!!!"

Star, I can't really give a good opinion on that, since I haven't read any of the others in a least a year and a half.

Zanida Laufeydottir Queen of Asgard (Zafira Kerias) said...

Hmmmm...

ANY IRISH DEREK INCLUDED,

What do you guys learn about the Potato Famine? Im curious we only learned that it was bad and stuff and the Irish immigrated to America due to it

Star Inkbright said...

We ant learnt about it at school or anything. I just know that none of the crops would grow for some reason, so (this is from my mum) a lot of Irish came to England to get work and we gave them really bad jobs and they were stuck digging our railways and our waterways, and it was that or starve. Whilst digging these waterways, they made up all these Irish-style songs about having to come to England and work on the water/railways, plus they sang Irish songs about other things, and these songs are remembered and are occasionally sang by my mum in the car, or when we were little, to us while we were in the bath . . .

*sings* Fiddle-me-ory, ory, ay! Fiddle-me-ory, ory, ay. Fiddle-me-ory, ory, ay! Working ON the railway!

The above song had a verse for each year. I can't remember them though. The most I can remember of the first line (the bits I can't remember are filled in with sonething and some) is:
In eighteen hundred and forty one
Some something some-some, some some, some some
Some something some some, some some, some-some, working on the railway!

Then the chorus. Then: In eighteen hundred and forty two . . .

Yeah, you get the picture. I have a crap memory.

HI ALEX!

We haven't been taught it yet, though, Zaf. What I know I know from my mum . . .

This isn't about waterways or railways, but:

When I was four
I slammed a door
The day I went to sea
I climbed aboard a pirate ship and that's the life for me
Gooooooing this way that way forward and back way
Over the Irish sea
A bottle of punch a day for lunch and that's the lifr for me!

Goes from 'when I was one' to . . . Um . . . Dunno, with the line underneath changing with each number. Other than that it repeats. :) So I remembered it. It doesn't help my memory that I used to think up a load of nonsense-rhymes to go with it (which I CAN remember. :P)

I claim this page for dedications.
They've changed so much. People became scared of them for some reason. I think you should not fret getting the perfect dedication, or become too lazy and "hand over the rights' to someone else. That just doesn't make sense to me. It totally counters the meaning of the privilege to dedicate.

NEVER STICK STICKY LABELS ON YOUR BOOKS.

FIRST I RUINED THE FRONT COVER OF MY TEOTW, NOW I HAVE PARTIALLY WRECKED THE SPINE OF MY LIES.

Star Inkbright said...

*patiently rubs licked finger over sticky section on spine of Lies* It isn't too ruined. The shiny part over the words LIES and MICHAEL GRANT has come off, but it isn't too noticable. Not unless the light's shining on it.

Luciana said...

Star, it's safe to say that you fail.

Your poor books. :(

I think I'll read this next chapter then stop reading.. my head hurts. :c

Star Inkbright said...

*slots it back on bookshelf and loooks at it* Yay. Maybe it's got something to do with it being in a shady corner of the room, but the damage isn't noticable. :)

Star Inkbright said...

:(

Hope it feels better soon.

MY POOR BOOKS, INDEED. BUT IF CARE OF BOOKS WAS SOCIAL STATUS, THEN MY SISTER WOULD BE AN AVERAGE CITIZEN AND I WOULD BE A WEALTHY LANDOWNER. MY MUM? SHE WOULD BE A LOWLY PEASANT. NO, WORSE. SHE WOULD BE . . . A RAT. NO, A DEAD RAT.

You should see what my mum did to her brand new book whilst on holiday. It broke my heart. That creased spine, that bent cover, those fanned pages. . .

Star Inkbright said...

At least I care.

My sister etchnically cares about some of her books. But you should the Enid Blyton books after she'd had care of them for a number of years, really. Okay, I know that even when we got them they were so old that they had the price on the front in shillings, and some of the pages were falling out, but I took WAY better care of them than she did. Now it's my brother's turn. :)

In a few years I'll report back to you on the state of them.

Star Inkbright said...

*technically

Star Inkbright said...

How was I to know about the damage of the sticky labels, really?

Star Inkbright said...

Alright, it's my fault. I admit it. Don't think I'm not sad about it. But if my Lies wasn't already tornish at the edges of the cover by the previous owner, and if TEOTW was a full book, I would be more devastated.

Lana is cool.

Is she like Sam?

Or am I confuddling myself?:P

Unknown said...

Personally, I like Orc.

Star Inkbright said...

Lana? Oh, Lana Lana Lana Lana, can't you hear the music playing iiiiiiiiiin, the village squaaaaare . . . .

(Yes, it's Dana in the real song, I got that).

Lana was my favourite character. She's awesome.

Is she like Sam? :/

She is in some ways. Bravery. :)

Star Inkbright said...

HI SEV! No spoilers. L didn't finish Book 1 yet. I'm so proud of myself for not spoilering. :)

Orc? Orc . . . *pounds head on floor in annoyance* ORCORCORCORCORC. I can't say what I want to say. D:

I really need to read those books again. Gone fell off my shelf this morning so I'm taking it as a sign and I'm going to read it later

Star Inkbright said...

I feel so sorry for Michael Grant's characters. They were created for no purpose other to suffer so for our enjoyment.

Oh, poor *insert names*

Actually; *insert the name of every charcter in Gone save a few*

Star Inkbright said...

I discovered I destroyed a part of my copy of Lies today. Should I take that as a sign???

. . . No. Gonna read SP first.

Star Inkbright said...

I want to read all the Gones just before Light comes out.

Disjointed
No safe haven
Hunted
Empty
Like a woodcutter that's run out of wood
Desparate
Scrabbling for the remains
Like I was knitting a piece scarf and now somebody's yanked the majority of it away, leaving me with a just few fraying lines left on my needles
Like a cliff that has had half off me fall off in a rockfall
Like I accidently deleted an important app on my phone, and I can't figure out how to get it back; I've installed similar app after similar app but nothing works quite right
Like I used to be able to perform a skill but now I've lost the knack
Like I was doing a jigsaw puzzle, and I'd nearly finished, and then someone messed all the pieces up and I'm trying to redo the jigsaw but now half the pieces are missing

^^^That is how I feel when I am walking and I have no story I can make up in my head. :( I should write a poem about it . . .

Luciana said...

...

That's not what I meant.

Sam, the little girl, Lana... Do they share similarities or not?

And Astrid's brother... Does he actually get found?

Star Inkbright said...

Lana and Sam. Similar in some ways. Lana isn't little, though. She's, uh . . . Um . . . Well, younger than fifteen, obviously, but . . .

I can't rememeber her age. Damn.

Little Pete, Astrid's brother. Technically, I'm not allowed to say. Are you asking? Because if you are I will probably answer.

Star Inkbright said...

Page twenty. Grandpa Luke to Lana. "I started drinking when I was your age, fourteen." So unless you're calling me little . . . :P

Luciana said...

You're not answering my question. ._.

And, yes. I'm asking you.

Star Inkbright said...

. . . Yes.

Star Inkbright said...

Lana reminds me of Lyra from His Dark Materials. In book one especially.

Star Inkbright said...

In book one and book one, if that makes sense.

What's your opinion of Edilio?

Ieni Strider (Ieni The Ninja Aeroplane, Eater of Fabi's armses) said...

I would like to make a complaint.
Today, I was reading MC before school and I kinda lost the time...and bascially I was very nearly late for the bus and would of been late if my dad hadn't told me the time.
And then I wanted to read it at school, so I put it in my bag...and it was the hardback, which is quite big. And my school bag is not that small...but now the zips are broken...

Ieni Strider (Ieni The Ninja Aeroplane, Eater of Fabi's armses) said...

You see the trouble that book causes me?

Star Inkbright said...

SUE DEREK!
