I'm back home for a bit before my last weekend away, and I've spent today wandering around the house staring blankly at things. It's only when I'm back for a few days that I start to decompress and behave normally, so it looks like I'll have to wait a while for that to happen...
My few days in Ireland were awesome, as usual. I signed in Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Drogheda and Cork. The Cork signing was probably the longest, because I haven't been there in a while, but everywhere there were enthusiastic readers laden down with books. Some truly bizarre and cool people.
Then I had a few days off before my event at the Mountains to the Sea festival, where I chatted on stage with Dave from Eason bookshops about movies that have influenced the series, and we even got to show clips.
Dave showed bits from Starship Troopers (awesome!) and A Nightmare Before Christmas (amazing!) and It's a Wonderful Life (uhm... what?)
I showed a few trailers for a few things, but I don't think I'll tell you what they were... In fact, it might make an interesting blog post, discussing these movies and showing clips... Oh goody, I've worked out what I'm going to be talking about next time!
I headed over to the UK on Friday- just in time to experience the heat- where I signed in Southampton, Bournemouth, Dulwich and Bluewater in London. Last year, I was signing in Bluewater for four hours. I figured there was no way I'd be signing for any more than that this time. Five hours later, I had changed my tune. From people coming in costume- I'm thinking of a skeleton morph suit in particular here-
to people who had made their own Skulduggery T-shirts (and a certain tall blonde with the most awesome T-shirt ever, festooned as it was with lines from the books)-
there was no chance of my smile ever dipping. It's the sheer enthusiasm and energy of the people who turn up to get their books signed that energises me every single time.
And the hugs...

You don’t always do well the first time over. Like in my first English exam, my brother ran away the morning of my exam but they forced me to do it anyway. I came out with a B. For me, a B is disastrous. I’m supposed to be good at English. I thought I failed half of my controlled assessments/course work, too. Because I lost hope in doing well because I messed up my first exam. Then the second exam came ‘round that was one of the most difficult exams I’d ever seen. I re-took the first exam, because I was given a second chance. I was having family problems around that time, too. My brother was getting worse and they were sending him to all these psychologists. But I still had to do my exams. My teacher had complete faith in me and told me “Everyone deserves a second chance.”. Everyone, EVERYONE, deserves a second chance. He gave me a second chance with my first exam and I came out with an A*. Almost full marks in my English GCSE. One of the highest grades in my year.
When I was in hospital (I refer to this a lot because it has affected me more than anything else in my life), I thought I wasn’t going to get a second shot at life. I thought I’d messed everything up. I thought that nothing I did was right. I thought I ruined everything for everyone, I thought I deserved to die because I was worthless. I thought all these things that those girls said to me were true; I thought I deserved the verbal and physical abuse they had paid me. I didn’t think I was going to get a second chance at life, but here I am.
My point here is…You can always have a second chance, but make sure you take the first chance you get as though it’ll never come by again. You have very few chances in life and you should do everything you can with that chance to make it worth your while.
Make mistakes, sure, but don’t let them get to you. Don’t allow them to harm your shot at changing something in your life. Take every chance you’re given, who knows…It could be your last.
Treat every day like it’s your last. If there’s someone you like/love, tell them. Tell them before it’s too late. Tell someone how you feel. Don’t let insults get to you, because they’re a waste of your time. If you do badly with something – like I did with my exams – just accept that you could’ve done better and, if need be, ask for help. If you need help- ASK FOR IT. If you need a friend, talk to someone. If you’ve not smiled in what feels like forever…Find someone you love, pick up a book, log onto Blogland or tumblr…Message me. Because I know that every time I talk to you guys…I smile. And a smile is the most beautiful thing in this world, because a smile is true and honest. Don’t live a lie, live as yourself. Don’t spend your time acting like things are okay when they’re not.
Be true to yourself, smile and don’t watch a chance just go on by…Don’t let love slip through your fingers.
Live your life well. There’s no time for regret whilst living, because regrets aren’t worth it.
Waste your time wisely – life’s too short, as it is… *smiles* I love you guys; never forget that you’re loved, even if you don’t remember who loves you. Just remember that you’re loved.

“Captain Ork Blazier!” Lieutenant Sharp called out, his voice mighty and full of authority. He swiftly turned and stepped away from the ivory podium and proceeded to walk past the huge greyed marble columns and through the giant ornate doors to the town hall. The chandelier hanging on the domed roof brightly lit with small candles. High walls rose on either side, chipped stone from ages before. The town hall had been built when the Elf colony had moved to the isolated jungle. That had been at least three hundred centuries ago.
Paintings of the past mayors, Army lieutenants and generals lined the domed walls. The front hall was circular, a vast room that held the reception desks. He nodded to the Elf receptionist, Gerrola, as he passed and she smiled in return. Elven lined the walls-barbaric elves that served as security-in their uniforms, a dark khaki green with a round helmet. A black visor covered their eyes and they stood at ease, hands behind their backs, feet spread wide. They nodded, at least fifty of them, as their Lieutenant passed each one in turn.
He walked briskly, his gleaming black boots clicking against the polished floor. He turned around a corner and continued his way, not slowing, knowing Captain Blazier would catch up. Three more right turns and he came to a door, the darkest colour of ebony. He opened it and stepped inside to a small room, with only a wooden desk and black torch on the wall, brightly lit, fire dancing high sending an orange glow across the room. Two chairs sat on either side of the desk, one occupied by a man clad in black, a turban wrapped around his head. Black sunglasses sat on his head, covering his eyes. A long goatee beard hung from his dark skinned chin.
