Finally!
You don't know what it's like, you really don't. I finished the book, was very happy with it, and then took a few days of doing nothing before starting The End Of The World and some other stuff. And all the while I'd be reading your comments, and the comments on the Forums and Facebook, and smiling because everyone seemed to be looking forward to it so much.
But that was MONTHS ago!
To have to sit here and watch all of you count down the days made me feel so incredibly guilty for putting you through that. But now, finally, the wait is over. It is September 1st. It is Death Bringer day.
The Launch last night in Dublin was manic...! It turned into a marathon signing session, and it had Storm Troopers! STORM TROOPERS! I didn't get a chance to chat to any of the people I know and usually see at launches, because I was staring at the Storm Troopers and then signing books and staring at Boba Fett and signing books...
'Twas a good way to launch Death Bringer, so thank you Eason's bookshop!
And what will I be doing today, you ask? The day of the release? Will I be doing interviews and attending champagne parties? Er... no. I will be cleaning my house. I'm off on tour tomorrow, and as usual Laura will be staying here while I'm gone, so I have to get the place ready for her or she'll glare at me. And you've never been glared at by Laura. It's SCARY.
So all of you who have just bought the book, I hope you like it. The previous blog entry is still the ONLY place you can post spoilers, so don't do that here. And even in the previous entry, try to HINT at the spoilers instead of blurting them out. Because there are SOME people, who will remain nameless, who felt the need to SKIM the spoilers and were dismayed when certain things were spoiled for them... which I actually find hilarious. If you don't want anything spoiled, DO NOT READ THE SPOILER SECTION! Sigh.
Okay, I have a house to clean. And you? You have a book to read.

There are so many things that I wish I could say to you. But it would take much, much to long to tell you the whole thing. Even if I could afford to fly to Ireland to go to your book signings and meet you in person, there wouldn’t be enough time to sufficiently express what I need to say to you.
I suppose I should start by introducing myself first. My name is Mariah Francis. I live in a small town in Connecticut in the USA, and I am sixteen years old. Just last year, I picked up a curiosity-inducing book off of my best friend’s desk in Spanish class and looked at it. It looked like an interesting read, Skulduggery Pleasant: Scepter of the Ancients. I read the back and immediately was engrossed.
I asked said friend if I could borrow the book and completed it that night, roaring with laughter the entire time. Stephanie reminded myself of me; a young girl who knew that there was something more in this world, who was sarcastic and snappy. The next day I walked into school and handed the book back to my friend (whose name I should probably mention: it’s Sam) and he looked at me, confused. “You didn’t like it?” he asked, tilting his head.
“I loved it,” I breathed. I was so terribly excited. I told him I needed the next one, immediately. And I read. I read and I read and I read. And I fell in love, Mr Landy. This book series is not only something that I can sit down and read without a care in the world. I should probably mention the fact that this book series saved my life.
You see, Mr Landy, last year, things in my life literally hit the fan. My grades were plummeting, I couldn’t concentrate, I was distancing myself from my best friends, and I began to self-harm. I still have the scars, but they’re going away quickly. I hate to show people my arms, and I used to hate when people looked at me like I was abso-bloody-lutely insane.
By the time I got to The Faceless Ones, my life began to sort itself out, in a way. If I wasn’t reading Skulduggery, I was writing Skulduggery fanfiction with Sam, creating our own characters and slipping them into Skulduggery’s world.
And that year… that year changed my life. Skulduggery has waltzed into my life for good, and he saved me. You saved me. This series made me realize that it is okay to be insane. It’s okay to be a little odd. It’s okay to be sad, as long as you have someone to help. Maybe that’s not the message you were trying to send by writing Skulduggery, and believe me, I love it not just for the things it did for me, but the humor and the wit.
I idolize Valkyrie Cain. I want to be like her. Strange, but in a good way. Snappy and sarcastic. And I am some of that. I’m my own person too, though. And for some reason, somehow, your books helped me realize that.

P.S. Sorry if this is all sentimental and what-not, but seeing as I will probably not ever be able to meet you in person, I’m crossing my fingers and I’m hoping that you will stumble upon this letter. I’m hoping you’ll read it, Mr Landy.

@ Mariah- *hands a giant ballon heart* I really hope you get to meet him someday, he obviously means a lot to loads of people. Self harming is some awful shit, so glad that you don't anymore. And I think that it's fake sentimentality that annoys people...there's nothing more wonderful that the genuine kind.

Of all theviolent deaths in the series, the most violent by far is on page 167 when Skulduggery kills a sofa for Valkyrie. A SOFA!!! And She doesn't even sit in it! *sniffle* A sofa was murdered... and not even for a good reason! NO!!!
