With Desolation only a few days away, I am still hard at work on the third and final Demon Road book.
From the beginning, I wanted these books to be as streamlined as possible — I wanted them short and punchy. Now, I completely failed with Demon Road, as it was a pretty big book, and only got slightly better with Desolation, which is shorter, but it looks like I'm finally getting the hang of this with Book 3, which will hopefully be the perfect length.

If I was over in Europe and it was socially accepted at 18, sure. I mean I'd try to fit in especially if it's the norm.
Now in some cultures here though its accepted for kids at like 16 to share a glass of wine at a formal dinner at the home, of course not in public. Like in my Italian side of the family it's more accepted for those of us in high school to partake in the toasts with wine, and its because that's how it is.
My Irish side it's not that common the most is to have a sip to take part in a toast, and certainly no more than that.

I don't really give an shiet. Even though my alcohol tolerance is high, I usually drink stuff like WKD because i like the taste. And only quite occasionally.
I don't dislike alcohol just because I have bad experience with my biological dad. It was my dad's decisions that led us to suffer, not alcohol in particular. Though i don't really like the taste of it. I like small amounts with a lot of other flavors.

Yes, I've got quite an internal locus of control. Though, also got some characteristics of externals. I don't believe everything that happens to a person is their fault....in the bigger picture however, I do believe that one has control over their lives.

And believing that one has control with alcohol is one of the things that makes an alcoholic, an alcoholic. Drinking alcohol isn't just what causes the addiction. Alcoholism is a mindset, and a lifestyle, and it is part of who someone is. Most alcoholics are avoidant, reserved, over-analytic, and exert control in all aspects of their life. My dad is narcissistic, cold-hearted, unsympathetic, perfectionist, frugal, and needs control. Alcohol is his relief.
So please don't say that alcohol is just a state of physicality- because it isn't.
Look, I'm sorry I engaged in the conversation, but may we please change subjects? It makes me very uncomfortable when people discuss their alcoholic endeavors/ the subject itself
( here in the Uk we have an AA where they fix your car whilst they lecture you on the 12 steps lol )
Well just like most other things, people can get addicted to it either way. Some may be more prudent to that life style than others. But it IS a choice whether you drink it or not. If one knows about urges, it is me. And so far, I've been able to fight mine. It's all a matter of choice. You cannot blame everything on basic genetic traits. We have a consciousness that, if used properly, can overcome any barriers. You just have to be willing.

it's much harder for some people to control their lives than others.
Don't assume everyone's mind works like yours . . . there's this guy I know from Debating Society and he put forward the argument that if people shouted offensive things in the street, nobody would listen to them, because people aren't stupid and they would realise this person's opinion is invalid and not listen to them. He didn't understand that for me, if you say something to me often enough, I will start to internalise that belief, even if I know you don't mean it when you say it. And I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one whose mind works like this.
Point being - everyone's mind works differently, and just because YOU may be able to control your life doesn't mean that it's possible for everyone.

*nods* wellll as someone who has spent far, far too many hours on sexuality sites, I've gathered the knowledge that a) teenagers are more likely to be slightly bisexual as their sexuality is still developing and b) very few people are 100% straight (there have been multiple studies done, and out of the population samples tested in the studies, obviously a low percentage identified as gay, but an even LOWER sample reported that they'd experienced 0% same-sex attraction) c) people who are bisexual are rarely attracted to men and women 50/50 - it can be 60/40 or closer to 90/10 or whatever and d) although there are general things that the majority of people is attracted to, everyone finds different things attractive and has different types and so on and so forth.
Incidentally, I've recently been thinking I might be the L in LGBT. Fun times.

You see for me, I usually enjoy the first and second reads more than the first read. On the first read I'm so intent on finishing I don't have time to appreciate the story properly haha. On the second and third reads, it's still fresh enough to not be boring bit I'm going slowly and taking in all the emotion and noticing all these little details and omg, the feels.
I'm currently watching Merlin season one for abput the seventh time and I'm pretty much crying every episode bevause I know the characters so well O just connect with them really well and can feel all of what they're feeling and <3. So much emotion.

Oh and yeah I think that's why I can't be bothered to order Desolation. I bought Demon Road and I just didn't finish it. No motivation. I know I read LSODM AND TDOTL in about 4 hours each the day they arrived. Demon Road? It's April I haven't finished, I'm not busy that I can't read, I just don't have the motivation. It's so....Not catching. SP was amazing I think it's what showed me that authors are real people. I lost it with Demon Road. Its so.....Like I feel so much was packed into a book that there's no chance to connect. I can't find any...sympathy, hatred, anything with Amber and I have like 2 chapters left. I just don't connect with her. I find nothing.
Derek would have my head if he ever met me when I say this- It's like Twilight! I didn't connect to Bella and I find Amber the same way....
I never thought I'd use a book Derek wrote and Twilight in the same damn sentence.
SP I liked Val until she became a bitch and okay not acting as ZafTC I did like Skulduggery a lot he was cool. I liked Ravel the most though but my thing is I had since like DD or MC I forget that I began to connect with Ravel. I connected with him as we learned about him and totally supported him. Hell even those of us mentioned I found myself liking and connecting with. I legit was in LSODM and TDOTL but like before that all happened I felt like the readers had a role. We were just as part of the story as the characters.
Not Demon Road because Derek is so rushed....I think he can't put the heart and soul in it.
