Chloe, you kind of are? There's still discussion if the behaviour of our parents manages to get into our genes, something that was long considered impossible. But some studies suggested that children of overweight mothers get overweight less easily, and children of underweight ones get so more easily. It's all reaaally interesting and not really sure yet. ^^

There's gene families that are REALLY important. Hox genes are a good example. They are named Hox 1 to ... something above ten, if I recall it right?
And if I recall it right from a year or so ago, Hox 6 was the one responsible for the developement of eyes in mice.
And you can exchange it with the gene responsible for eyes in fruit flies. And they will develope eyes with the mouse gene. BUT fly eyes, still.
Which shows that that gene is an on-off-switch for eye developement.
Stuff like that. It's really, really cool.
Oh, that finding also strongly suggests that the eyes in MOST animals all go back to one origin. More food for the evolution theory.
Only very few eyes in the animal kingdom are NOT controlled by a nearly identical copy of that gene.
