Germany Dates

The writing of Desolation is coming along, slowly but surely... This six month schedule thing is a killer, and unfortunately the first casualty of that is the blog. The second casualty is Twitter. The third casualty is, I dunno... probably my sanity.

But ho! Being the professional that I am, I still have time to travel to Germany and meet YOU, my wonderful minions!

15th October, 7 PM: Burg Lichtspiele, in Ginsheim-Gustavsburg

Talk and signing.

16th October, 5 PM: Lierature cafe, Ettlingen

Talk and signing.

17th October, 1:30 PM: Frankfurt Book Fair

Talk and signing.

5 — 8:30 PM: The Midnight Hotel.

The Midnight Hotel is a fan event where I'll be chatting and signing, and there'll be a quiz and a fancy dress competition and, like, stuff happening... It's gonna be awesome.

Quote of the Day! :)

Oh. Previous Quotes of the Day -

"The djinn attacked me!" - Dean
(can be misinterpreted as "the gin attacked me"

"Your hair looks nice." - Ethan
(that one's not funny without context)

*when referring to Darcie giving Ethan half her lunch* "You could have fed it to the bin instead of the trash!" - Reece

*referring to the Christian holding cross on my desk* "You should put that away, it might be offensive to Satanists." - Catherine

*referring to the Lost Children's zone* "You shoudl go over there, Holly." - Darcie
(I am both lost and a child :P)

*referring to the fact that Sam has been possessed by a demon called Meg for a week* "You've technically had a girl inside you for a whole week. Pretty naughty, Sammy." - Dean

*referring to me saying I had insane organisation* "Your insane. Cat and Darcie are neat freaks. And I don't give a shit." - Lizzie
(That is so exactly it)

"We're not working for the mandroid!" - Sam
(not funny without context)

"The problem with this world is that everyone wants a magic solution to their problems and everyone refuses to believe in magic." - Jefferson

of course if it was the other way around, if i was the one who was trying to discuss something further, or trying to help someone, even though they asked me not to, i would STILL be the bad guy.

Star Inkbright said...

@Fera: You're not necessarily the bad guy. I've just not forgiven you for a whole load of shit yet, so I'm purposefully not being as nice to you as I could be.

Star Inkbright said...

@Fera: And you only have yourself to blame for that. I'll hand out second chances and third chances. By the time you're asking for your seventh, you're really pushing it.

Inky Flame said...

When I was a young boy,
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band.

He said, "Son when you grow up,
Would you be the savior of the broken,
The beaten and the damned?"
He said "Will you defeat them,
Your demons, and all the non-believers,
The plans that they have made?"
"Because one day I'll leave you,
A phantom to lead you in the summer,
To join The Black Parade."

When I was a young boy,
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band.
He said, "Son when you grow up,
Would you be the saviour of the broken,
The beaten and the damned?"

Sometimes I get the feeling she's watching over me.
And other times I feel like I should go.
And through it all, the rise and fall, the bodies in the streets.
And when you're gone we want you all to know.

We'll carry on,
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And in my heart I can't contain it
The anthem won't explain it.

A world that sends you reeling from decimated dreams
Your misery and hate will kill us all.
So paint it black and take it back
Let's shout it loud and clear
Defiant to the end we hear the call

To carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches

On and on we carry through the fears
Ooh oh ohhhh
Disappointed faces of your peers
Ooh oh ohhhh
Take a look at me cause I could not care at all

Do or die, you'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Go and try, you'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part
I won't explain or say I'm sorry
I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scar
Give a cheer for all the broken
Listen here, because it's who we are
I'm just a man, I'm not a hero
Just a boy, who had to sing this song
I'm just a man, I'm not a hero
I
Don't
Care!

We'll carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches on

Do or die, you'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Go and try, you'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part (We'll carry on)

Do or die, you'll never make me (We'll carry on)
Because the world will never take my heart (We'll carry on)
Go and try, you'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part
(We'll carry on!)

Aquila Felis said...

I'm listening to the radio, cause that station has, once a year, a top 1000+ voted for by listeners. Currently they're at 1030 or so, they started this morning at five. They'll finish Friday night. ^^

Good morning, then. ^^

Feraaaa32 said...

hehe wow, that's a long ass list :p welcome blake.

Aquila Felis said...

Best thing is you get all kinds of stuff. Just a moment ago was someone singing amazing grace with the audience joining in, now it's something from a hunger games movie, and the next might well be a children's song - it's fun. ^^

Feraaaa32 said...

nice! I think I'd like that, cuz I like all kinds of genres, it's just not every track in a single genre...if there's a variety of random songs, there's a chance I'll like 30-40% of them :p

Aquila Felis said...

Well... they do have webradio - if you really want you can listen to them via internet.
.. something at least some Germans no longer living here do, cause at times they'll get song requests from South Africa or so. ^^

Aquila Felis said...

Feraaaa32 said...

heh, I might ^_^ you...ok there? :p *tickles*

-pillow pillows-

I think that one'll be more to your liking.. ^^

Feraaaa32 said...

Talk to me ! *turns head slowly* what have you done? :p

John said...

(I don't like it when I grab an object that is supposed to be inanimate and it grabs me back.

Aquila Felis said...

They have a list up of all songs played up to now, and add the songs all the time.
Here.

Feraaaa32 said...

but...pillow ;(

John said...

Aquila Felis said...

True that, they make you all limb and kinda high. >.>

Aquila Felis said...

I think we haven't had any, yet...

Feraaaa32 said...

Ah, love that song... Send me an angel by the Scorpions. :)

Aquila Felis said...

-grins- 'A boy named Sue'.

Feraaaa32 said...

you'd be cute in them though :P ^_^
I'll listen to it when I get the chance :)

Aquila Felis said...

"A Boy Named Sue"

My daddy left home when I was three
And he didn't leave much to ma and me
Just this old guitar and an empty bottle of booze.
Now, I don't blame him cause he run and hid
But the meanest thing that he ever did
Was before he left, he went and named me "Sue."

Well, he must o' thought that is quite a joke
And it got a lot of laughs from a' lots of folk,
It seems I had to fight my whole life through.
Some gal would giggle and I'd get red
And some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head,
I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named "Sue."

Well, I grew up quick and I grew up mean,
My fist got hard and my wits got keen,
I'd roam from town to town to hide my shame.
But I made a vow to the moon and stars
That I'd search the honky-tonks and bars
And kill that man who gave me that awful name.

Well, it was Gatlinburg in mid-July
And I just hit town and my throat was dry,
I thought I'd stop and have myself a brew.
At an old saloon on a street of mud,
There at a table, dealing stud,
Sat the dirty, mangy dog that named me "Sue."

Well, I knew that snake was my own sweet dad
From a worn-out picture that my mother'd had,
And I knew that scar on his cheek and his evil eye.
He was big and bent and gray and old,
And I looked at him and my blood ran cold
And I said: "My name is 'Sue!' How do you do!
Now your gonna die!!"

Well, I hit him hard right between the eyes
And he went down, but to my surprise,
He come up with a knife and cut off a piece of my ear.
But I busted a chair right across his teeth
And we crashed through the wall and into the street
Kicking and a' gouging in the mud and the blood and the beer.

I tell ya, I've fought tougher men
But I really can't remember when,
He kicked like a mule and he bit like a crocodile.
I heard him laugh and then I heard him cuss,
He went for his gun and I pulled mine first,
He stood there lookin' at me and I saw him smile.

And he said: "Son, this world is rough
And if a man's gonna make it, he's gotta be tough
And I knew I wouldn't be there to help ya along.
So I give ya that name and I said goodbye
I knew you'd have to get tough or die
And it's the name that helped to make you strong."

He said: "Now you just fought one hell of a fight
And I know you hate me, and you got the right
To kill me now, and I wouldn't blame you if you do.
But ya ought to thank me, before I die,
For the gravel in ya guts and the spit in ya eye
Cause I'm the son-of-a-bitch that named you "Sue.'"

I got all choked up and I threw down my gun
And I called him my pa, and he called me his son,
And I came away with a different point of view.
And I think about him, now and then,
Every time I try and every time I win,
And if I ever have a son, I think I'm gonna name him
Bill or George! Anything but Sue! I still hate that name!

Because I like it. And because it's a science. But mainly because i like it, and i think i am fairly ok with it.

Inky Flame said...

((But surely you realise that behaviour is influenced heavily by our emotions? We cannot block them out))

Feraaaa32 said...

Well. That's debatable. There are situations, where emotions are not necessary for behavior. Sure, emotions play a huge part in creating us. However, to achieve consciousness, you don't particularly need them.

Feraaaa32 said...

Reason can be a driving force as well. It doesn't have to be just emotion. I don't see how you don't see this. If you understand the main concepts of good and bad, you can decide which to pick, without having to feel anything. If you decide good...your reasons can be: you want everyone to be good and safe and such. you don't want destruction. If you decide bad: it can be that you want destruction, and for some reason, you see more point in it. You can do all this without feeling anger, happiness, sadness and such. You can just decide by which you'd think would be best...understanding emotion is one thing, feeling it is a different story.

Inky Flame said...

(You do? O.o
Awww ^.^
Keep being awesome star! *huggles*)

Inky Flame said...

((But safe is a feeling
You feel safe
Those positive choices are positive because they make you feel good

Destruction is negative
Is a negative choice because it makes you feel bad

We as humans reason an makes decisions
But no matter how complex they are, there is an element of emotion behind them)))

Jai (Silente Tempest - St Of Sinners) said...

(But surely wanting and not wanting has emotion behind it?)

Inky Flame said...

((Thanks jack *bear hugs and lifts you off your feet*))

Star Inkbright said...

@Jai: Yep.
@Chloe: Yep.

Right I'm not sure I can word it much better than it has been already. :P But you can't have reason without emotion. You can't reason "oh I want good and safe and not destruction" without a) wanting or b) thinking that safe is better than destruction. And you need emotions for those things.
:P I think Jai and Chloe already covered most of that though.

@Jack: :) :) :) :)
@Chloe: :) :) :) :)

Feraaaa32 said...

ok, let me give you an example like this then: there are 2 rooms altogether. 2 people in one room and 3 in the other. You can only pick one room, which will not be filled with mustard gas. If you were to listen to logic and logic only...you'd easily would go for the one that has 3 people in it. Even if you didn't have any feelings, any emotions, if you were to save as many people as possible, you'd pick the one that has 3 people. Logical, right? Well, if you were emotion driven, you'd just get caught up in your own thought "but 2 people's lives don't worth more than 3 people's right?" and such. Anyways, you can make conscious decisions, that won't be affected by your emotions. Now frankly, I wouldn't want societies with current amount of intelligence to have no emotions. But that doesn't mean, that perhaps in the future, it wouldn't be a better call to get rid of them.

Star Inkbright said...

@Fera: Why? Why should you care if people die? Just stay there and not save anyone. Won't make a difference to you.

Edward Fletcher said...

I've tried to argue with people who don't listen before, I can't be bothered to do so again
Night

Star Inkbright said...

@Fera: And even if it did affect you, why should you give a fuck about that? I mean, who cares what happens to you, right? It's all the same to you anyway.

Inky Flame said...

((Oh for fucks sake!

You can't get RID of emotion! It's part of our biology!
And why should we
We are but shells without them!

And why do you want to save more people? There's an element of emotion there!

Be an emotionless shell

But we will e the ones satisfied and happy with our existence

Byii jack))

Tanya Halcyon (Kas) said...

Hello.

Not sure what the argument is, but why would you co-operate? Whoever gave you that mustard gas is not killing people, you are. If you do not make yourself part of the equation, and refuse to make a choice, then you're not killing people, and blame lies solely with whoever is killing people, at which point we kill them. *nods*

Jai (Silente Tempest - St Of Sinners) said...

(But what dictates logic?
It's "logical" to save the three.
Why?
Because then more survive?
Why is that logical?)

Star Inkbright said...

:) :)

*thinks me&Jai&Chloe&Jack are all kind of on the same page here*

Aquila Felis said...

... do any of you know the Vulcans from Star Trek? Because I feel like that's what Frank's trying to argue in favour of, and I can see his point. ^^

Also, hi. ^^

Inky Flame said...

((Hi johanna!

I am aware of that, but this is reality. Would we really be better without emotion?

*hugs star*)

Edward Fletcher said...

The cupcake from star trek are not human and focus only on logic which led to several mistakes due to their lack of emotion
If anything, it enforces the point that emotion is necessary

Feraaaa32 said...

I think you can see reason for not doing what's considered to be destructive, without having to feel happy, or satisfied with yourself. Some people don't care about clothing what so ever. And yet they can decide which pair of clothing to pick, each day. That can controlled by your perception of what you find to be intriguing, rather than your state of emotions.Oh and there have been cases, where the emotional cortex of the brain shut down almost completely, due to isolation.

Again, why are you freaking out over discussing this topic? Did i say anything bad? Or are you just annoyed that you can't get me to agree?

Edward Fletcher said...

*vulcans

Star Inkbright said...

I'm all for logic, personally, and I think you should try to find logical solutions to problems as opposed to just pureply going on emotions. However, I think you should derive your logic from your emotions. Human logic doesn't work without emotions. Computers can compute just fine without emotions, but they have programming to tell them what to do. We don't; we have emotions instead.

Tanya Halcyon (Kas) said...

Hey, Johanna! :)

Yeah, but humans can't purely logic, I'm pretty sure we're too unintelligent to truly logic. All we do is try and fail, because a split-second decision that may save someone's life could take weeks to think out and decide on using logic. Just no.

Aquila Felis said...

Heh, without SOME emotions, for sure. Some emotions are HORRIBLE advisors to base a decision on. Seriously, you KNOW that. You have to fight lazyness, selfishness, all that stuff yourself, too.

Star Inkbright said...

@Fera: Why shouldn't we do what's destructive? Who cares if people (including or not including us) get destroyed and die?

Intrigue is an emotion.

I'm not freaking out. I'm actually getting quite into this. :P This is me in Calm Debating Mode.

@Jack: XD That was a great typo. XD

Jai (Silente Tempest - St Of Sinners) said...

(*cough*IntriguedIsAnEmotion*cough*)

Tanya Halcyon (Kas) said...

@Fera Who says that two people dying is better than three? How is this logical?

Aquila Felis said...

Star, if I may go in on your 'why shouldn't we do what's destructive' thing, and refer to Plato. Guy put a lot of thought into it, and I like the conclusion he reached:
If you choose to do bad, someone else has a bad experience, is more likely to choose doing bad, too - and in the end the whole world becomes worse. So you can't truely want to act against other peoples interests, if you're thinking about long term consequences.
... Plato pretty much came up with a clever version of 'what goes around comes around'.

Inky Flame said...

((Hehehe jack you know how to make me laugh XD

I am just... Frustrated

You simply can't get rid if emotion..it's in our biology

To get rid of emotions in the future... How exactly would that be done?))

Edward Fletcher said...

What if the three people have family whereas the two do not?
Would those fanikys agree?

Thanks star XD

Edward Fletcher said...

Thank you Chloe, that means the world to me

Inky Flame said...

((*huggles jack* that's a very good point))

Feraaaa32 said...

I wasn't talking about you star ^_^ Because you see no reason for destruction? You see, from my perspective, you can derive conclusion just by considering what's bad and good? You can certainly understand what they are, without having emotions. I can, however agree, to the point, that you do have to consider them, in order to be able to balance to one side or the other.

Aquila Felis said...

... did anyone argue in favour of getting rid on emotion?

I'm just trying to say: There's times when you should NOT ACT on emotion.

Tanya Halcyon (Kas) said...

What if two people die a painful death with torture, or three die quickly? And why do you need them alive, anyway? Why do you need anything if you have no emotions?

Edward Fletcher said...

Emotion forms logic!

*mutters to self*

Inky Flame said...

((FERA said it may e a good call to get rid of them in the future

But what makes us know what's good or bad?

Eat chocolate - you feel satisfied - good emotion
Get beaten - you feel weak and you hurt - bad emotion))

Star Inkbright said...

@Aquila: Why the fuck shoudl we care if the world is worse? What's 'worse', anyway? That's something defined by emotions. More negativity = worse, and negativity is obviously an emotions-based concept.
People with no emotion have no comprehension of better or worse.

@Fera: How does one understand what is bad and good without emotions?

@Aquila: Of course, and I am fully in favour of that. I've argued plenty of times that you shouldn't act on emotion. However, saying "we should get rid of emotion and just use logic" - that makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Tanya Halcyon (Kas) said...

@Johanna Certain decisions are better made with contained emotions because emotions can affect actions and decisions negatively. Agreed?

Aquila Felis said...

Er, personally I think we're already as a society breeding people to be less aggressive.
Cause aggressive people can't deal well with the permanent human interaction in city environments and therefore reproduce less.
But hey. ;P

Star Inkbright said...

@Jack: YES THAT'S WHAT I WANTED TO SAY BUT DIDN'T HAVE THE WORDS!!
THANK YOU!

Feraaaa32 said...

*nods at johanna* yes, you can view long-term conclusions as goals. I can give not an ounce about some people, or what they think of me, and yet still consider their well-being?
Ok now jack, please explain that statement.

Edward Fletcher said...

I would explain my statement but you would use the same argument against it and I cannot be bothered to type a long paragraph that will be ignored, it's simple enough to figure out

Thank you star

Tanya Halcyon (Kas) said...

Without emotions we're robots. And robots are slaves. Emotions will set you free.

Aquila Felis said...

Er. I do not think emotion forms logic. But ok, if you don't feel like explaining, don't. -shrugs-

To me, logic is a subdivision of mathematics, and numbers are not an emotional matter. ... usually.

Inky Flame said...

((*kisses jack* ))

Feraaaa32 said...

I think you're misinterpreting being ignored and simply not being agreed with. When somebody doesn't agree, it doesn't mean they're ignoring you.

Tanya Halcyon (Kas) said...

@Star *points at his previous comment*

This better be my quote of the day, or I will send the Skynet robot army after you!

Edward Fletcher said...

Aquila, to be honest I just have better things to do than type up a paragraph to explain what's already been said

Star Inkbright said...

@Fera: *explains Jack's statement* As we've been pointing out, one does not have a comprehension of good and bad without emotions. Therefore, in order to use logic to navigate between good and bad to find the best solution, you need emotions.

Edward Fletcher said...

*kisses Chloe*

Edward Fletcher said...

Thank you star ^.^

Tanya Halcyon (Kas) said...

@Star good? There is no "good" logic. No good outcome. Just one that efficiently meets goals.

Aquila Felis said...

... you're making the mistake of thinking that 'good' and 'bad' matter to logic, though. Logic can reach conclusions that are logical but horribly much on the 'bad' side.
... trust the girl studying science.. ^^

Tanya Halcyon (Kas) said...

And no "best" outcome that needs logic, because "best" is subjective.

Star Inkbright said...

@Kas&Aquila: Like what? :)

Feraaaa32 said...

One can understand good and bad without actually having any emotions, I am certain of that.

Inky Flame said...

((You kill a snail as a young kid
It makes you feel bad, sad
You recognise it as wrong
You develop the schema - a packet of information - which tells you that killing is wrong

You return money to someone who loses it
It makes you feel good, happy
You recognise it as right
You develop the schema - helping someone is right

Is that not logic?
Or am I missing the point ?))

Star Inkbright said...

@Fera: How?

Star Inkbright said...

@Chloe: *nods*

Edward Fletcher said...

Your idea of good is what's responded to positive emotion, you may think something is good whereas others think it bad, because you feel differently

*leaves properly cause I really can't be bothered*

Inky Flame said...

((Thanks star))

Aquila Felis said...

Star: ... do you REALLY want an example of science doing what most people would consider bad? Do you really want to know? Because people tend to interrupt me and tell me to stop when I tell that one story about what they do to get pathogen free mice.

Tanya Halcyon (Kas) said...

@Fera Only as slave input commands.

Master says no people die = good, means it's good.

Master says genocide = good, means it's good.

You have no emotions to form a response or argument to this.

Tanya Halcyon (Kas) said...

@Star What are you asking me?

Inky Flame said...

((JACK! MY PHONE IS PLAYING UP SO SORRY FOR LATE REPLY!)

Star Inkbright said...

@Aquila: But why shoudl we follow science? One needs emotions in order to decide to do science.

Tanya Halcyon (Kas) said...

I dedicate to my friend Rebecca. I think she's my oldest Internet friend, and it's her birthday today. She's amazing! :)

Tanya Halcyon (Kas) said...

@Star Who needs emotions when Master can tell you to do science like the good robot you are.

Edward Fletcher said...

I haven't got a reply XD hehe, it's ok ^.^

Star Inkbright said...

@Kas: Nm.
Just, you can't choose goals without emotions.

Feraaaa32 said...

huh, good point kas. But the concept itself should still be comprehend able. And thus, to reach a better conclusion, would rather go with the good side?

Star Inkbright said...

@Kas: Why should you follow your master?
If you're a slave, you don't have free will; you're not following logic, you're following orders.

Tanya Halcyon (Kas) said...

@Star You can't choose how to fulfill goals without input, such as emotions, or commands, either.

Star Inkbright said...

@Fera: I'm sure a being without emotion could comprehend that people with emotion have a concept of good and bad. I'm not sure they'd develop such a one on their own, or think such a thing necessary.

Star Inkbright said...

@Kas: Exactly.
Sorry, we appear ot be on the same page. :P

Aquila Felis said...

Star, I think you asked me how logic can reach morally bad conclusions? Or not? What was your question, then?

Inky Flame said...
