I said the winner would be announced at the end of July but, because the entries kept coming, I kept it open another month. All in all, we had over 800 people entering — some more than once — and picking a winner was NOT easy.
But a winner I did pick. And here, to help me announce, is Ronda, her mom, her sister Maria, and lead artist Justin...
"And the winner is... Brinley Marrs!"
Congratulations Brinley! Your mom put your name forward and told me why she figured you should win, and I agreed! Hailey, your email has now been sent to AnnMaria and they will take it from there.
To everyone else who entered, commiserations — but if it's any consolation, please know that some of your entries made me grin...

bast:*bast happily smiles at blake* you know mother too?
Mother never told me, bussy with making it spin?
me:*pst* different author different universe
bast: oh right, not mother, i got it.
Aquila: -changes to cat, seeing a chance for belly rubs-
(*Coughs*That'dbeGebwho'smale*coughs*)
Cat!
*Picks up the cat and cuddles it happily*
Aquila: Mew! :3
Swirl: -arches eyebrow-
bast: Mother, better.
me: eh... basty it's not mothersday today
bast: mother, name , not title!
*he boops my head* Program! *he smiles at Johanna* Good?
Grant: *pets the cat*
Me: Yes, good Bast. :)
Aquila: -purrs-
*Strokes the cat*
I like cats, though to be honest my pet is a bit cooler. Haven't seen him around for a while though...
bast:*stares at blake* truck? *he gives blake a knowing look and hugs him tightly*
i know, trucks take lives.
Swirl: What's your pet like?
My pet, Ignis, is an albino phoenix someone gave me as an egg for my four hundred and seventy fifth birthday. I just call him a dark phoenix though since they're black and purple instead of the usual red and orange.
Swirl: Your albino phoenix is black and purple?
Yeah I dunno why they're called albino.
Tanya: I remember Ignis. *nods*
Swirl: The magic world needs more biologists...
Yeah Tanya, it was Xan who gave him to me, right? Haven't seen him around in forever either.
*Raises an eyebrow*
With the kind of stuff you see in the magic world I don't think a biologist would be able to keep his sanity. Imagine if one had come across me yesterday, the world would think that tiny people were an actual species.
Me: Biologists kill one of each, put them in something to keep it fresh, and use it as reference for later telling if something is the same.
If a Biologist had successfully classified you yesterday, you would be dead and in a glass.
If a biologist had tried that he'd have a nice little hole in his skull...
@Johanna But I thought Blake was a necromancer - already dead?
Me: Point being, the world wouldn't believe that there's tiny people. ^^
Swirl: I still think classifying magic life might be a good idea...
Aquila: Meow...
Me: ... yep, shapeshifters would be trouble. xD
(necromancers conduct the shadows and form em into tools, they are still living beings who shape the shadows to do their biddings)
(a necrolord or lich however....)
Kas - if it moves, you can kill it. Biologists mess with stuff until it's dead. ;P
Actually, one of my professors once underestimated that some flies had already built a cold tolerance and failed to kill them by freezing them. They just started moving again, and he sat there with not-as-dead-as-wanted flies. But most of the time... if someone knows how to kill something, it's one of them.
(well usually, necromancy doesn't mean the mancer is dead)
Well I have died... twice. I think.
(Con : I Conduct them the best. * disappears back into the shadows*)
Me: -grins- Did you guys ever consider some kind of necromancer olympia?
@Blake And there you go, you're undead. Necromancy is bestomancy!
If anyone sees trip.. please tell him to email me
thanks
(Blake: Go wave your baton at a choir.)
Huh, I guess I am... Cool.
*Grins and shambles towards Tanya with his arms out in front of him*
Braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiinsssssss...
(Con: Orchestra... and that's only when I'm bored, much prefer snapping necks. )
Hey, Noelle. I rarely see Trip on here, but okay.
Good night, guys!
-makes notes-
Neck snapping, orchestra leading, that's two disciplines. I think shadow walking should be in there, too?
Night Kas! ^^
(Night, Kas.)
Tanya: Well, don't look at me, then. Go get some from the necromancer brain dispenser *points to her left*
(Con: I Conduct a shadow orchestra with my baton two disciplines in one *smirks* Shadow walking is part of Necromancy not really a discipline, just something you need to learn to master. )
Shadow walking would make for an easy measurable competition, though. :)
... maybe put 'killing that one annoying fly that keeps eating me bit by bit, gaaaaah' on the list, too. >.>
*Kills the annoying fly that keeps eating Aquila bit by bit*
Ta-da.
Yes! Thanks! ^^
krieg: i can mutate the annoying fly to eat you in one chomp?
me: i don't think it being slow is what bothered her O_O
Well it's dead now so unless you can bring stuff back to life...
Krieg, I saw what you did to a harmless flower. ... stay away from flies.
krieg:*blinks* aquila, remember your orbs?... i think they are still in there
Bast: oh no
maggs:... gimme one....
Me: NO!
Maggs: party pooper
Aquila: ... don't let them out.
Krieg: oh gaw.... now i'm tempted to!
Orbs?
*Is rather sad there's no more cat to pet*
Aqulia: ... mew? -stayed right in the cuddle-
(Oooooh, right. Let's just pretend that never happened. >.> ... she normally can't speak while cat. Must have been the shock.)
Me: I can show you one before Krieg messed with it...
-pulls out a small, purring sphere-
krieg: yeah aquila has these orbs that feed off magical energy...i fed them my blood... it is not a healthy diet for orbs, plants and other organic material...
Me: Actually, she gave most to the Sanctuary... they are like living shackles, if the numbers are high enough.
-the sphere hops off my hand and rolls over to Blake-
-it sits at his feet, purrs more and glows a little-
*Holds the cat with one arm and pokes the orb with the other*
Heh, better keep my blood far, far away from it then...
-the sphere glows a bit more and starts growing-
*Pulls his arm back*
What exactly is it..?
Me: It's... a sphere. A cute, glowing sphere. -tilts head- You're pretty magical, judging it grows so quickly. It's nearly the right size to... ... yep, there it goes.
-the sphere, now considerably bigger, splits into two-
-both sit there, purring-
krieg: trust me, my blood is on a whole different level blake...
can be turned into a pretty damn durable alloy but... you don't want to ingest it when untempered..
Mhh, I was once performed an experiment to test my magical potential, my max output, and I kinda broke the instruments being used. Luckily I'd already used them earlier that day for someone who actually needed to know... That was when Zanida's magic was getting all out of whack.
Oh so you've got a primordial deity stuck in you as well corrupting your body and mind with his influence? Didn't think so.
-the spheres split again, Blake has now four little sphere's at him, all glowing and growing-
Me: Riiiiiight, time to stop them. -puts them in bags and pulls them off-
*Smiles apologetically*
Sorry...
krieg: your body is still yours or he'd have claimed it for himself ages ago.
my black blood though is a parasite with a sole porpuse to corrupt all it meets i am it's host right now.. and i think i'm doing a pretty decent job at staying alive and semisane.....for now.
*he crosses his arms and taps his foot*
Me: You know, you could just show him the flower. I wonder if his blood does the same to plants. ^^
Just on contact it wouldn't do anything, but if a living being ingested or worse, injected it... death, at best. Handy with Sil and Tanya running around, keeps them from wanting to bite me, but reason enough to stay away from hospitals and other peoples labs.
krieg:right let me just *he slices his hand at the air rippling it opening a rift*
*metallic grinding and growling can be heard from inside*
Krieg: ah feck off *he punches a black spiked twitching orb back into the rift*
i'll be riiight back
krieg: that's my leg toby! *the rift closes*
... I don't wanna know...
... she allowed him to keep one.
... just one.
... seems they never stop breeding.
I dunno, I'm kinda curious.
*Lays on the ground and laces his hands behind his head*
I'm kinda bored.
krieg:*he exits a fresh rift with a black plant curled around his left arm torso and right leg* This is mr bitey.... he was a rose at one point... now he's a er...
*krieg eyes the sharp sickle shaped talons weaponizing the plants vines and the petal gnawing at the black blood he encased his arm with*
I don't even freaking know.
it's like a cute little trained falcon.... *it lifts it's "head" up at krieg and screetches, jetblack nectar being flung into his face*
gross....
... oh my.
Feeding it to a plant was an experiment, because Aquila thought a sphere of it looked tasty. Somehow. Apparently it reminded her of blackberries.
Aquila: -hops off Blake and changes to human- Needless to say, I'm glad I didn't.
You sir, are not going anywhere near my wife's garden.
*Frowns as now he really doesn't have a cat to cuddle*
Aquila: Tomorrow. ^^
Me: Time for bed, at a... not THAT unreasonable time, this time. ^^ -picks the bags with spheres up- ... sometimes I'm glad I'm no mage. :P
Night all!
G'night, Aquila.
krieg: sooo yeah since then my little sister has been doing quite a lot of experiments on my blood... and of others..she's a bit coocoo
maggs: am not!
krieg: did she try already?
She did, and I promptly stopped her.
krieg: heh, well then
(meh night)
(Night.)
(*Sighs*
It really sucks being an Ameriminion.)
Boop. Moss and Dug are Ameriminions. They've just been busy recently, I guess. Hi though! At least Japan and places like Australia are still in their mornings. Not that many Aussieminions come on anymore. :(
Hey Lav. Yeah it stinks, though technically I should be busy as well...
It's only early evening for you, right? What would you be busy with? Besides homework, of course. :P
It's nine, so it's actually getting a little late. By normal people standards.
And yeah, homework.
Oh. Oops. :P So you're on the eastern side? My brain automatically goes by west coast time, and it's not so late over there.
Mhm, east coast. Though my state's only got one tiny stretch of ocean beach.
Aw. :P I'd guess your state, but my mind doesn't want to try right now. :P
I hardly see people on.
( I'm always on :P nah ko I'm just doing hw :P )
Hello again, Grant. Lav my mind can barely keep up with watching anime right now, so I get that.
*nodsnods at Blake*
Hey, Keiron. Hi Grant. *waves* :)
( *waves to Lav if she's still here sorry wbd with hw :P* )
You have no idea how much homework I've had.
Sigh! But my school is the best school in the whole world!!! :D
You guys were talking about blood eh? Mine's blue and it tastes amazing!! El has rainbow blood, it's soooooooooooo good on snowcones! I think Amy's was purple and Raven's was... shoot. I forget :/
Anyways!
(I have like 40 minutes to get ready and nothing to do because "getting ready" today means throwing on some "comfy clothes", pulling my hair into a sloppy pony tail and brushing my teeth.)
Hi.
Don't really get why parents won't leave me alone over the smallest things. *sighs*
JUST DO IT! MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE! Yesterday, you said tomorrow, so JUST DO IT! NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!
Train better not be late.
NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!
-waves at (maybe) empty Blogland-
Still off uni, I'll be on plenty less once lectures start again.. ^^
hey aqui ^_^ going to P.E. now ^_^
Um, have fun with the only subject I once nearly didn't pass. ;P
(*is somewhat obsessed with the oogie boogie man*)
K :p I did have fun, we played badminton ^_^
Duggy just reminded me how Eve would always try to take Val's blood samples... And then possibly drink it. Hai. Not really here.
Sad to hear you'll be on a lot less once school starts, Aquila. :(
Also, when I first watched Nightmare Before Christmas, I almost puked when I saw what Oogie Boogie was made out of... I was really little when I first saw the movie! It was gross! >.<
(hey Hope ^.^)
*waves*
Human Oogie picture? He looks cuter there than the original. ^.^' :P
... Again, I'm actually not here. Will definitely be poofing now.
(He is ^.^
Bai hope ^.^)
Hey, Chloe and Hopeymoth! How are you doing?
hello.
is it me you're looking for?
Hello, Fera.
Gtg to class again. These breaks are ridiculously short.
Haha I got two new names today. Forgot them already. -_-
(I am good ^.^)
we were running
and then they had bullet proof glass. This is for you BEN!
(Sleepy.. Mmm.. spent all day arting at the local uni. It's amazing how quick I can work..)
-was gone to play taxi-
-might vanish again randomly-
It's my mum's birthday. ^^
Happy birthday to her ^_^
Hrm. 'Happy birthday from some stranger I know from online but no he's not a new boyfriend [and so on and so on]'...
... it's unlikely I'll tell her, but thanks anyway. ^^
(Happy birthday Aq's mum!
Working in a workshop is fun. Only problem is standing doing art all day makes you very sleepy.
Hmm.. might draw at home.)
(Penblwydd hapus to your mum Aq!
Glad you enjoyed Jai ^,^)
(Hi Chloe :) It was great!!! So much fun!!! And I got to miss a biology exam.)
(Lucky!
I have biology homework today -_-)
Hey, Biology is great! -pouts-
(Aww :/ Poor you.)
(I don't like the nitrogen cycle... I have a whole question booklet to do but I don't understand because our teacher said not to write down what was on the board but we don't have the information we need!)
(@Chloe
... I presume it's more advanced than lightning being nitrogen fixing bacteria converting atmospheric nitrogen into nitrates in the soul. Some if these bacteria live in the soil whilst others are found in the roots of leguminous plants in the root nodules?)
(that's the first part of it, yes
we had to complete a diagram in the lesson
but, the teacher made notes on a separate whiteboard than the diagram
she specifically said not to write down the notes, but there was so much information
some of these questions... I feel like I am lacking information
I amn not the only one who feels like this)
(Oh! If that's useful then fb!)
(thanks Jai ^.^ but I have a whole booklet of notes... but I don't have the notes thast the lecturer was writing on the board... but thank you)
(You're welcome :/)
(oh well...I now know to take down EVERYTHING she writes in future)
(Yep! That's useful at least..)
(True ... *listens to bouncy happy music whilst homeworking*)
(*cuddles the Chloe*)
Properly gone for now. Bye! ^^
@Chloe: Or ask if you can take a picture of the board. :)
(*cuddles the jai*
good idea star ^.^
byii Aq!)
Hi. School was okay. Had a new teacher today. Best one yet. Also got acquainted to someone. *nods*
@Kas: :) Awesome. :)
*nods at Star*
*offers hugs*
How are you?
How are you, guys?
:) *hugs Kas back*
I'm alright, thanks. :)
You?
Good! :)
I'm okay, too.
@Kas: :) Good.
(I has sore throat -_-)
Train is late. Idk what to say, Starryeyes. Will go-
*loses college card*
*finds college card*
-distant to listen to music.
@Chloe: :(
@Kas: :P
*hugs Chloe* :/
(*hugs everyone*)
(Is it working finally?!)
(*watches edward scissor hand for the first tjme*)
Hey.
George Miller got my hopes up, then failed me :c
(Awwwww Kas *huggles*)
(*pokes the blog..*)
(*nods and smiles*
*hugs Chloe back*)
(How is everyone?)
(Sleepy. And waiting for the damn bath to fill.)
(Ah I see)
(I'm going to speak to jack now
May be a while)
(So it filled.
Problem is I used to wrong tap.)
@Jai: XD XD Oh dear.
(I is back for now ^.^)
@Chloe: :)
Damn, I forgot I liked MCR . . .
:) I really like trhe sound of their vocalist's voice . . .
(I've accepted that I'm not going to get an A* in art. There are two reasons for this acceptance.
1 because true art can't be graded. All true art is an A*, is amazing, because it is true art.
2 because of all the planning. To me art is spur of the moment. Art is emotions, and how can you plan emotions when emotions change so much? Art is acting on those emotions to represent them. It's not weeks of planning and preparation, because where's the emotion in that. There is none. It's cold, emotionless and mechanical. It's what we're trained to do. Art can't be trained. Art is about expression, and you can't express yourself when you're squashed constantly into boxes that order you what to do. At the uni today we had half an hour to make a painting, sketching with charcoal then adding Indian ink. Yes we were using photos we'd recently taken but they were generic photos, plain, emotionless. That would be better than weeks of planning, because it's instant emotion. It's real. Art gsce is stupid and restricting.)
(I LOVE MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE!)
Hello again. ^^
(Hello Aq ^.^)
Inky, did you draw your picture?
@Jai: Yes to the one. To the second one, I disagree - there are different types of art, and to me my art often ends up being maths. :P When doing word art at home, I usually spend weeks planning out and doing tons of drafts - I usually have a vague idea in my head, and then I plan it all out to try and get it as close to my idea as possible. Usually it ends up being totally planned, and I have a word style and a pattern style and then I sort out my colours and then for the actual creation I just switch off and follow my plan. For my observational drawings, it ends up getting soooooo mathematical because I end up doing all scales and proportion and the like. :P And then when I get onto colour I just try and recreate exactly what's there. The reason I can't draw real life drawings unless they're observational is because I don't have something to copy off and I'm not creative enough to pull from my head, so I just look at it and think "meh. too much difficulty that way" and go back to emotionless art. :P
To be honest, to me, art is very much like maths beacuse doing art just feels like doing maths. Or rather, doing maths feels like doing art. It gives me the same kind of mental release. :) Although art is a lot more stressful because I just get reeeeeeeally perfectionist and try to stick to what I'm copying much more than is realistic and then freak out when I can't perform miracles. :P
My head doesn't always translate very well into words, but I can't translate into pictures at ALL. When people tell us to express things through drawing, I'm jsut like "what" because my head just doesn't work in pictures. I don't do emotional expression through drawing, is what I'm getting at.
And yeah, I'm good at art, you're good at art, but we do art in different ways, and that's fine and natural because there is a variety of art and art cannot be restricted into boxes. :)
I didn't like GCSE art because it was restricting . . . I like arting what I want to art, you know? I was possibly bothered less than you, though. Being restricted in art was slightly annoying but it didn't cause my serious distress. Being restricted in essay-writing caused me serious distress and panic and that is why I hate essays, because they tried to restrict my writing and I couldn't handle writing like a robot and I did a lot of freaking out and crying and then couldn't write essays and then ended up hating English adn taking science instead beacuse I didn't do that out of school so they couldn't ruin it for me. XD
So, yeah, basically, mark schemes are my worst enemy. And I agree, you can't define art.
I don't think you should be graded on your planning. I think you should just be graded on what artwork you produce. I think that great art is great no matter how you get to it, and if you spend weeks planning and create soemthing shit you shouldn't be able to get higher marks then if someone does your instant emotion thingy and creates really good art. I think art is art and good art is good art, and although experiences are subjective, if you get a ton of people to look at artwork and give it a mark out of a hundred and then take the averages of all the marks, the best art will have the highest score (or close enough).
However, it's not a school subject if tehre isn't a fucking marks scheme, so y'know.
Incidentally, I did not get an A* in art. I got an A in art, and I was happy enough about it. I didn't take it as AS level. I really nearly almost did, because my mum insists that I'm really good at art and that I might want to go to art college or something and I'd need A level art to do that, but it was famous for being time-consuming and that scared me off. :P
(No
That's someone else's fanart
However I copied it and it isn't that bad)
@Chloe: Apparently I do. O_O I can't believe I forgot that. O_O
(They are amazing
I can believe you did either XD)
I have no idea what it's fanart of, but that green suit-thing looks COMFY. ^^
(The oogie boogie man from nightmare before Christmas)
Ah, ok. :)
(He is an awesome character!)
-doesn't remember anything about him-
(*cries* poor edward scissor hands! Everyone was imposing their expectations and views on him and in the end they all turn against him
He only wanted to make everyone happy...and they turned on him)
(Why is it quiet?)
(Because there aren't many people talking.)
Because I never finished the movie you refered to... ^^
(Ah I see
Hey John!)
(Hello Inky, Aquila.)
I only watched it a bit for Johnny Depp, but meh.
I really like the pirates movies, though, and Sveeny Todd or however it's spelled... ^^
(Johnny Depp is easily one of my favorite actors.)
(How art thou?)
I just love all the insanity when he's Captain Jack. ^^
(I love pirates of the carribian )
I forgot to say, hi, didn't I? -hands out a 'Hi!' to Blake-
(I art mediocre as always. Think I have a math quiz later, though. That's gonna be fun...)
Maths isn't so bad, for me. At least it makes sense... ... organic chemistry is what gets me.
(I'm listening to nineties music *dances to a club 7)
I just found out my university has their stuff planned until 2019.
... I'm honestly impressed. ^^
(I don't like numbers... I've got a much better mind for more abstract things.
*Says the programming major*)
... oh my.
Hm.
(Organic chemistry was okay last year...
*still doesn't know what to do in uni*?
I dedicate to the moments when you realise how good your life actually is.
(Hear hear!)
