Waiting for your book to be released is always an interesting time for a writer. But behind all the excitement and the impatience and the work, there is one question — one ever-present question — that shouts louder than any of the others.
"Will they like this one?"
Because what if they don't? What if this book is the book where they finally realise you're not a writer? Or that your best work is behind you? What if the enthusiasm you have grown accustomed to finally runs out?
It's a possibility. I started my career with Skulduggery Pleasant, a series that ran for nine books with one spin-off and one short story collection. That's how I got my readers, and my readers have a genuine love for those characters and that world. That's what I'm used to. That love and enthusiasm is now what I expect whenever I release a book.
But Demon Road is different. Demon Road is new.
It doesn't have the advantage of being part of a long-running series. It's part of a trilogy, yes, but it's the FIRST part.
There is an unwritten rule in publishing. It's not a particularly nice rule, but it's an understandable one. This unwritten rule states that your second series will not reach the heights of the first series — at least not at first. Given time, it will gather its own fans and its own readers and it might even surpass the first, but upon its release it will flounder when compared to the heights previously scaled. My publishers told me about this rule years ago. I have had a lot of time to absorb it.
And I'm okay with it.
I think Demon Road is a good book. Of course I do, I wrote it. I think it will gather its own fans. A lot of these will be Skulduggery readers. Some won't be. Regardless, it was written to stand apart, to begin a new adventure, to introduce new characters and a new world, and it will rise or fall on its own merits.
This, to me, is the essence of writing. Each new book is a brand new lie, and each new lie brings an age-old truth. If a writer is lucky, he'll get multiple opportunities to tell these lies to an audience that is willing to give him the chance. Nobody wants to read a book they don't enjoy. Everyone wants the book they're reading to be the book that changes their life forever.
I've been very lucky in the past, and I reckon I'm ready for what's to come.

Y'know, I like to eat almost all of my fruit before it ripens because it's just annoying otherwise. So, like, I eat pears when they still have the consistency of apples and are less flavourful (don't like ripe pear flavour much); and I eat peaches when they're still solid and maybe a bit green depending on the type, but just about sweet enough to eat; and I eat bananas if the skins are still green. *nods*
And that way you don't get the annoying sticky handed thing nearly as much, and you get to avoid mushy banana which is a bonus. :))

Washington state is currently in a state of emergency because of all the wild fires. Hopefully this will help the firefighters, now they can use federal money and more people will be brought in to help.
In Washington there are kinda four main regions though some of them contain smaller sub-regions. There's the Olympic peninsula which is a rainforest and mountain range, Puget sound which is where Seattle is, the cascade mountains and then eastern Washington which is hot and dry. The cascades separate the wetter Puget sound area from the drier eastern Washington.
We had a very dry and mild winter, resulting in little snow pack which is not good because our summer has been hot and dry. Because of this fires can be caused (in E WA) by a single spark or the heat of a car's exhaust according to the paper.
It's also been windy which continues to spread the fires.
Many parts of eastern Washington are on fire which brings me to my ded:
First to the firefighters.
To the ones who are working day and night to try to stop and/or contain the fires.
To the ones who have died fighting, may they rest in peace. They died protecting others.
To the ones who have been injured fighting the fire, may they recover quickly and fully.
And to all of their families.
And next to the civilians who have lost their homes, their stuff, everything they've known. To the people who have been injured or killed and those who have lost loved ones.
To the people who haven't lost their homes but are in fear of losing them and have had to he evacuated.
To the pets who aren't allowed in the shelters.
To the people who are making temporary shelters for those animals.
To the people who might be having trouble because of the smoke in areas where there are no fires.
There is so much smoke it is creating odd clouds over the city and the sun is an odd bright orange.
I wish I could just do something that would help and I mentioned that to my mom and we're going to donate something to help the efforts, whether it's to the people who have had their home and belongings destroyed or to help put out the fires, Idk. Just as long as it helps.

Despite the glaring issues with physics and logic in both films, I rather like Fast and Furious Five and Six. The earlier ones I do not care about whatsoever, but the fifth and sixth in the series I do quite enjoy watching.)

Fast and Furious Six had many action sequences, I agree. However, not many of them actually made sense. The scene with the tank, for example - a tank which is said to weigh seventy tonnes is weighed down by a car which could not have weighed any more than two. That makes no logical sense. In the same scene, Dominic Toretto launches himself into the air from the front of his car to save Letty - and both suffer an impact into the front of another car which would have, by any sort of logic, killed them both.
The scene at the end of the film, however, with the aeroplane, has a much larger issue. I am no aviation expert, but a plane must have a reasonably high speed to take off. Given the approximate speed of both the plane and the vehicles, the runway would - after the scene has finished - be more than twenty miles long.
People also seem to have a habit of leaping on to speeding vehicles as if physics does not apply in their universe, which happens more times during the film than I care to mention.
