It's not easy writing a book.
I mean, it's easier than mining coal. It's easier than most factory work. It's probably easier than a lot of office jobs as well.
But STARTING to write a book... those first few inches you have to push that boulder till it hits the edge and starts to roll downhill... THAT'S the hard part.
Not as hard as teaching, granted. Or working on a farm. Or being a doctor or a nurse or a cop or a fireman. I doubt it's as hard as construction, either, or carpentry, or plumbing, or engineering.
But STILL...

The heat blanketed the room, festering a mix of sweat, stench, and sex. Elecia was tucked in the right corner, surrounded by half-stripped men, and she was swaying her hips to the sound of seduction.
Adra sat herself at the bar, her fingers dancing over the invisible piano that laid on the darkest shade of marble. Her small martini glass was perspiring the coolest water, a small puddle of condensation pooling at the base. She swirled the small olive in circles within the glass, using the toothpick to stab at the juicy fruit occasionally. The velvet undertones of the music resonated with the softness of her soul, but stood in harsh contrast to the intensity of the club. The cracks of whips sounded again and again in a cornered room, and screams of pain and pleasure mixed in a sweet song.
She had just come back from a scene between herself an Orpheus. It was intense, it was masochistic, it was sadistic, but it was gratifying. She wore a small black collar around Her throat- it had a single silver ring on it, used to be hooked to a chain. The collar itself was a sign of servitude, a sign of resigning power to another person- giving up her worries, her stress, her priorities- and allowing another person to take control. It was incredibly soothing to her, to be in such a position, and it isquite possible that she could never be happier. She trusted Orpheus with her life- nothing could ever change so. (I am aware. I am unsure about what to think about Fifty Shades of Grey. Given the fact that there have been increases in the number of people calling the fire service due to them getting stuck in handcuffs and the like, people seem to be experimenting more with that side of things after reading the book. But that may not be a good thing, if what they use - in effect - as an example is wrong. Between that and the possibility of children being exposed to it, I can hardly agree with its publicity.
It would be rather interesting to find out how Adrasdos managed to murder someone whilst on drugs during sex, but nevertheless. It is a rather impressive feat. I do not think any of my characters have ever taken drugs, I just realised.)

I am all for gay rights and pride, but I disagree with the fact that rainbows mean gay pride. I love rainbows, but because I love color. But whenever something is rainbow, people think of gay pride, and also I don't like that rainbows, the mix of all colors harmonizing, is used to represent one group of people. It should be used to represent society as a whole. Also, I just like rainbows? Again, I'm all for gay rights and pride, but I dislike that rainbows are associated so strongly with it.
I have unpopular opinions... Oh well... Hopefully that made sense. If it didn't then never mind...
(That does make sense, Andviolet. I was thinking people would be feeling like that. If gay pride perhaps made a logo of their own, it could help the situation. Rainbows, being so common, could possibly lead to misunderstandings.)

I believe the point of the symbol is that gender and sexuality are spectrums. Color is also a spectrum, and the rainbow demonstrates this quite nicely.
That's just my view though.

Okay, with my rainbows comment: I in no way meant that I have a problem with people expressing their gay pride through rainbows, because that's what the symbol is. All I'm saying is that I wish it were a different symbol...again, I am all for gay pride, I just... I don't know, I love rainbows separate from it. Also, I don't get the perspective of it being because it's accepting all different types of people. Because that is very different from gay pride. The rainbow would be everyone, not gay people. But since the symbol for gay pride /is/ rainbow, I have no problem with people using that to show that they support it.

@Sophia: Mmh, well, notice I've been writing 'LGBT+.' The acronym has got so long and there are so many versions that I can't remember what they all are. People seem to keep wanting to extend it to include as many people as possible, and some have ditched the original acronym altogether adn gone with 'GSM' - Gender and Sexual Minorities - or MOGAI (don't even ask me what that stands for).
So the 'are asexuals part of LGBT+' is a constant thing, because people are like "yes, of course they are, it's for all sexual minorities' and some people are like 'no because LGBT is mostly about sex and we don't want it so' and then some people are like 'WTF no' and then we can also get hostility from some LGBT+ groups (which you really wouldn't expect considering) sigh . . .
Idek. It's all a bit of a confusing mess.
And, Sophia - it's more like people have been told to be ashamed of being (eg.) gay for so long that being proud of being gay is like . . . ugh, words . . . is like standing up to that shame and saying "No, I don't accept that the world can do this to me." And the opposite of shame is pride, so when people turn away from shame, they naturally turn to pride.

Also, I think a certain amount of pride comes from supporting minorities like this. "I support equal rights and I am PROUD to do so!" for example.
It's not really proud of being gay itself. It's proud of accepting homosexuality in a world that (previously) told you not to.

@Taia: Mmh, well, yeah. I agree with you - straight pride should be a thing, but people just equate it in their mind with "proud to be straight = shame to be gay/other." Which shouldn't happen, but as straight is the majority and has been the basis of oppression . . . *shrugs*
I think it's great that straight people change their profile pictures to rainbows. :) I fully support straight people who support gay people!
(I believe everyone should be proud of who they are and accept themselves. I think Lgbtq+ pride if you want to use the full name, shouldn't really be called gay pride because I feel like it's not including everyone... but at the same time when someone says gay pride I automatically include myself and am like hell yehh! Everyone loves using "spectrum" that is under the /spectrum/ and it is called a spectrum because being straight was so black and white...;along with because it includes everything we have not yet encountered and is saying we accept you for you don't be scared; like you must love the opposite gender and have children etc etc... personally I see pride as a way of getting it through some peoples heads that it is a thing it is here to stay, so they best get used to it now and start letting people love who they love, because they want to love them. Until everyone is equal, I believe we should keep pushing pride because it shows people it is not something to hide, that people out there will accept them for them, even if their country won't... once gay marriage is allowed everywhere, there will be a hell of a gay pride party yes but after that it'll die down I mean we'll have rights everywhere just like everyone else and that's how you know you've been accepted.

@Keiron: I don't think LGBT+ pride shoudl be called gay pride. I think gay pride should be called gay pride. And there's nothing wrong with gay pride. :P

(Taia - Indeed. I just think that people tend to focus on one group rather than everyone. It feels slightly odd to be a lesbian speaking against gay pride, but nevertheless.)

(Star - I have two definitions for you. 1. Gay pride or LGBT pride is the positive stance against discrimination and violence toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people. 2. a sense of strong self-esteem associated with a person's public acknowledgement of their homosexuality. It seems to be mainly focused around LGBT.
If it meant acceptance, the name would be acceptance. But the name clearly states Pride.)
@Keiron: Surely gay pride is about gayness (I really need a better word for that XD), and LGBT+ pride in general is about the entire spectrum . . . ?

Google defines 'gay pride' as 'a sense of dignity and satisfaction in connection with the public acknowledgment of one's own homosexuality.' As in, you get positive emotions (like pride) from the acceptance. Does that make sense at all to anyone except me . . . ?
(that's like saying that after we get gaypride we are going to need to strive for LGBTQ+ pride ? I think it's honestly just shortened because gay is one syllable so it's easier to say and people assume it includes everyone.)

I don't assume it includes everyone at all. I don't think that's an issue - you can't necessarily have parades for everything at once. I just think there's gay pride and LGBT+ pride and they cooexist and overlap. :S You don't have to 'get' gay pride or LGBT+ pride . . . it, like, already exists. Right?

(surely the point of gay pride and LGBTQ+ pride is to strive for equality where everyone under the spectrum has the same rights as straight people hence how at least as I see it is why there is not straight pride, because straight people are meant to be inherently proud of who they are and so should everyone under the spectrum)

Also, yeah. I get everyone's proud that gay people can marry, but like, EVERYONE can marry. It's awesome for EVERYONE. ;)
(I see no issue with celebrating that gay people can, though, because the lack of gay marriage was an issue.)

Um. I think maybe that checking Google definitions is maybe not the best way to go.
It seems pretty clear that different people understand the term differently. :P
Which is OK. It means to people what it means to them, and if they're happy with it, that's cool.
If they're not, they can use a term they prefer, and that's OK too?
In the same way that some people say alright and some people say fine and some say OK: and alright/all right are different interpretations, and fine can be OK or fine can be grand, like fine food. Don't people just use the term that works best for them?

(one day there won't be gay pride anymore because it has become normal and no one cares about your sexuality because it is all accepted... i think is what i'm striving for, if we are all allowed to do the same stuff then there should be no need to appreciate who's doing it because they won't be different anymore...

I dedicate to love :/ because love is blind and it doesn't matter who you are what you look like or what sexuality you are, you should be able to find love without people judging. )
