What a year that was...
2014 saw the final part of my EPIC nine-book series reaching the shelves, and there was much rejoicing. It was a bit of a scramble to get it written in time, as it generally is, but this book achieved everything I wanted it to achieve, and so I remain immensely proud of it. The ninth book, and the events that transpire within it, had been a secret I'd been keeping for seven years, and it was such a relief to get it out there. Sure, I didn't tie up every last plot thread — in some cases I just ran out of time, in others I decided to be mean and simply not resolve stuff — but it was a fitting send-off, I think.
The publication saw another astonishing Tom Percival cover, plus a very limited black edition which, as it turned out, was an extraordinarily clever bit of marketing by yours truly. It meant that the excitement that first morning was ELECTRIC as everyone rushed to search through each shop. That wasn't my original intent — I just wanted a cool black book — but to follow the tweets that morning as each copy got snapped up... that was awesome.
The reaction to the book was exactly what I wanted, also. True, there was some confusion over the chapters that ended mid-sentence, but all in all, readers understood what I was doing. And then to catch you all out right at the end....
... glorious...
The Dying of the Light got me back touring, of course, and we fit in the Requiem Ball and the Theatre of Shadows, and I once again visited New Zealand and Australia and met loads of enthusiastic readers. If ever my ego was in need of a boost...
And then I got home, and got to work on the NEW book.

He never had any hateful or otherwise negative feelings towards us. He was just... himself. A kind, cool guy who always had time to help out a fellow in need. I'll miss him.
*walks back towards Sil, sitting down and leaning her head against her*
*steps back up*

*sits with Chi, on the opposite side to Tsku so Tanya can sit on her other side*

Goodbye Blake Soul. You will be remembered. *uses his bandaged hands to guide a plough of energy in pushing the dirt back into the grave*
*glares slightly at Trip for his 'and all the rest'*
Cole: okay...
*Hugs Kall* Thank you.
*Turns around* Thank you Anna, for that. And you, Tanya.
Annabelle: *looks up at Chi and nods*
*looks back, meeting Jes's stare*
*half waves*
*chris stands near the door*
Chi: Wait!
*Takes the twins up to the grave*
S-say bye to daddy...Lira, Lucas...
*They look up at Chi, not really understanding what she means*
*They look down at the box and see Blake inside the ice coffin*
Lucas: Mummy, where is daddy going?
Chi: Somewhere far away...w-we won't be able to see him for a while so say goodbye...
Lira and lucas look at each other then kneel down and put their little hands on the coffin*
Bye bye daddy...we'll miss you...
Chi: *Bursts into tears again*
*Takes the twins back to their seats and nods to Trip to keep covering the coffin*
*gets back up and hugs Chi tightly*
*a single tear rolls down Tanya's face as she looks at Lira and Lucas*
[They can talk and confidently walk? Is Cara developing right? Am I a bad parent? Am I overthinking this? Yes, yes, probably no, debatable.]
*finishes filling in the grave*
Chris: *plays a soulful tune on the fiddle*
*has tears in her eyes now too*
*sees that Sil is hugging Chi*
*decides not to disturb them*
*looks at Lira and Lucas and closes her eyes, fighting her tears back*
*Tries to stop crying, for the twins*
*Wipes the tears away from her eyes*
I'm fine, Sil, thanks...
*quietly*

*takes her hand and leads her back, sitting next to her again*
