Ladies and gentlemen...
When I start writing Book 9, I had a title in mind. And it was a good title. It was a glorious title. It echoed a phrase we'd already seen in the books themselves, and it was cool, and haunting, and awesome...
But for some reason, it wasn't a "Final Book" title.
I don't know why. Some titles suit the last book of a series. Some suit the first. This title — my lovely, glorious title — suited the first.
I'm not going to tell you what it was, because I do plan to use it at some stage — and I never let a good idea go to waste.
But suddenly I had a problem. I needed a new title.
I needed a new title that sounded like a final book. I needed a new title that fit alongside Kingdom of the Wicked and Last Stand of Dead Men. I needed something almost... poetic.
And so I came up with this.

But I haven't got over the fact that Ghastly dead :(
The next series will star the remaining characters under different names to protect their identity and they will restore the world and then of course all die and destroy the world again. But you'll forget about those guys because there will be NEW guys and those guys will be in the next book series... et cetera..

I don't understand my emotional reactions, I really don't. I can start sobbing in lessons over vans and zigzags (that's how my long list of directions started, C making me cry over poor little zigzag children being left out), but book titles are somehow mostly irrelevant to me.

I've been reading these books since I was eleven, I am now eighteen and I kind of feel like either crying or punching something because this has been a series akin to Harry Potter for me and I'm very sad to see it end. I trust the glorious Mr Landy will not stop writing! I'm counting on it.

I actually think the ending for Skulduggery Pleasant will be wonderful. I don't usually like happy endings, and I HATE the endings where it makes it unrealistic just to keep everyone happy. Urgh. They're horrible.
The best endings are the ones where bad things happen, but the bad stuff enables it to mostly be a happy ending.
I think Derek's ending will be horrible and soul-torturing, and after I've got over the horrible soul-torturingness, I will be so pleased, because it will presumably NOT stretch the limits of reality and will presumably make total sense, and, also, soul-crushingness is kind of good in a way. You hate it, but if everyone was nice and nothing horrible happened, would you really like the series that much?
I think it would be funny, but rather boring.
I have faith in Derek to deliver us a fantastic ending. *nods*
And if he doesn't, then at least it will be a good enough ending, I will be satisfied, and I won't be ranting about it stupidity for the rest of my life like I am with The Infernal Devices.

@Charlie: I shouldn't really say, because spoilers, but - you know a love triangle, one girl, two guys? Imagine that the girl ended up being able to go with the first guy AND with the second guy, one for a whole lifetime and then the other for an immortal lifetime after the first one died.
