Ladies and gentlemen...
When I start writing Book 9, I had a title in mind. And it was a good title. It was a glorious title. It echoed a phrase we'd already seen in the books themselves, and it was cool, and haunting, and awesome...
But for some reason, it wasn't a "Final Book" title.
I don't know why. Some titles suit the last book of a series. Some suit the first. This title — my lovely, glorious title — suited the first.
I'm not going to tell you what it was, because I do plan to use it at some stage — and I never let a good idea go to waste.
But suddenly I had a problem. I needed a new title.
I needed a new title that sounded like a final book. I needed a new title that fit alongside Kingdom of the Wicked and Last Stand of Dead Men. I needed something almost... poetic.
And so I came up with this.

I dedicate this page to my essay. Because I know if essays had feelings, it would be feeling pretty neglected right about now.
I'm sorry dude but Blogland just takes precedence sometimes. Well, all the time. And in that sense, I guess this is also dedicated to all those half written essays out there!
If you want to take a moment to reflect on that, you can, but if you don't that's fine too. I try not to think about it too much.

I have the weird urge to re-read Dark Days and Mortal Coil.
And then I wouldn't be able to resist reading Death Bringer - my favourite SP book. Yeah...
But I've never seen Frozen...

Ok then, read all the books while I was in England for two weeks. this excludes the short stories, but now I'm like woah, I haven't read a book in 4 years before now. And then I'm like...noooooooooo! I have nothing to read until this book comes out. Finally I'm like, Derek, please, for the love of the universe don't make me suffer, I'm here crying now, I'm in a fetal position trying to work out what to do with myself. So I stand up, compose yourself Jess, you can do this. And then...I find out, I know what to do until book 9 comes out, ever since I was born, I was egotistical conceited you choose a word, but I always told myself that you couldn't show people that you were as such. But then, I read your dedications Derek, then I listened to Skulduggey, then Valkyrie etc...and now I know that it's okay to be egotistical to some extent. So, for the next few months, I will just walk around and come up with as many ways to tell myself im beautiful, smart and fabulous, (all you guys are too)...but forget I said that, it damages my ego.
I can't wait for this book to come out and now, thanks to Derek, I start my list on ways to stroke my own ego. You should be thankful that you taught me that Derek.
This is my first time commenting and reading your blog and I read about your nieces and how you want them to be whatever they want (even a mermaid) but I get that, I'm 13 and my best friend wants to be a unicorn and my other friend says that she was a mermaid in her second life.
Oh and um just as a side note, if you are even slightly considering killing Skulduggery, (you might me, for all I know he's already dead) , I will not hesitate to let the most deranged part of my brain to take over. Its sort of like my violent nature and tendencies that I have. Yup but, don't do that, seriously, please don't do that, its sick cruel and I don't like that. When i read the end of book nine, devoured the last word and smelt the final page (yes, I'm that sort of weirdo who judges whether or not a book will be nice by the smell of the pages) and closed the book as I run my finger up the spine, I will cry for days and days and days. I hope you really laugh at my pain, cause everybody, and I mean everybody, knows that you just laugh when we cry over the deaths of our favourite characters. I realise that you have the same disorder as Gordon and happily, brutally murder that main characters just as I develop an emotional attachment to them.
Sorry I'm back. My god is barking so I can't get to sleep. Stupid god.
